If you haven’t ever tried out Rocket League, now might be a good time. Psyonix in partnership with Warner Bros. Interactive has announced Rocket League: Ultimate Edition for the Nintendo Switch will arrive instore in North America, Europe and a handful of other territories on 28th August for $49.99 (or the regional equivalent).
The Ultimate Edition of the game contains the base game and all of the content from the Collector’s Edition. There are 16 DLC Battle-Cars included and a collection of cosmetic items as well. Here's what you can expect:
- Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice Car Pack
- Chaos Run DLC Pack
- DC Super Heroes DLC Pack
- Revenge of the Battle-Cars DLC Pack
- Supersonic Fury DLC Pack
- Aftershock, Esper, Marauder, Masamune, Proteus, Triton and Vulcan DLC Battle-Cars
All of the above will be on-cartridge -- no code inserts in sight!
It's worth noting the Switch version of the Ultimate Edition costs $10.00 more than other versions of the game. Psyonix previously addressed price increases on this specific platform when the Collector's Edition was announced at the end of last year:
As many of you have likely noticed, the MSRP for Rocket League Collector’s Edition is $10 more on Nintendo Switch than the same version on other platforms. As much as we tried to keep the retail price down, the reality of the Switch’s increased cartridge manufacturing costs meant that the MSRP had to be higher as well. That said, we are still VERY confident that players who join us from the retail side will get plenty of enjoyment from what Rocket League has to offer and we look forward to welcoming them to the community next month!
If you don't own Rocket League, would this physical release interest you? Would you consider the Ultimate Edition as a digital owner of the game? Are you still playing this game on a regular basis? Tell us below.

I have the digital version.... Can I upgrade? (First)
Here we go again...
So what I take from this is that the new addition just includes the already available dlc and nothing new new?
@gloom Yep, that's it. It's basically just an updated game card with more of the recent updates and DLC on it.
Every car is here!
Just when I bought the collector's edition a few weeks ago...then they announce this. Oh well...
Just so everybody knows, the dlc is not on the cart. It comes with a download code. So if you already bought the Collecter’s Edition earlier this year, you don’t have to upgrade to this one. You can just buy the dlc and nothing would be different. But i do highly reccomend oeople to buy this version if you haven’t bought it yet!!!
There's never really going to be a 'Complete Edition' of RL as it will continue to receive new content regularly for the remainder of the life of the Switch and beyond.
50 bucks for car clothes? I’ll pass.
@MotionMan Just to clarify, here is a statement from the official blog:
All of the above (DLC) will be on-disc or on-cartridge — no code inserts in sight!
I've updated the post to reflect this.
I haven't touched this game in weeks. I just couldn't get into it.
After they fixed a lot of the software crashing issues, I came back to the game and started playing again, only to have the servers for the Switch almost devoid of people and the software crashing issues returned, albeit in reduced amounts. According to the devs they are still present, just greatly reduced. That basically killed my excitement for the game again.
I'm was still trying to learn the game but dejected at all the issues that triggered software crashes, so at this point the only thing that would bring me back long-term would be cross-platform parties. Once that comes, I'll be able to play with my friends and family that play on steam. Then I'll get back into it.
It hasn’t been too long they released the regular physical copy. Milking the cow much?
I'll grab this, as I've only got the digital with a couple dlcs. Wouldnt mind having it on the shelf to share with people.
Can I still get the Jurassic World upgrades online? Definitely getting this physical release as I always wanted to try this game.
I'm p'ed because this is how it should have been released from the start (and patches now require about 5GB of space). To have that 5GB worth of data on cartridge as well as the DLC as opposed to being console locked is worth the upgrade.
I wish more publishers would give us options like this.
Ya nice to know the $20 i spent then $40 i spent on the "Collectors" Edition that had download codes in box is worth less now.
Have it on PS4 (got it free on Plus tho) and Switch digitally. Getting this. Love myself some physical cartridge.
I wanted it for Samus car but as I don't really have net where I live it be useless... Unless there is a offline campaign and offline multiplayer split screen and bots or something
@Silly_G didn't have this crap years ago lol this is why I wait for alot of stuff now unless I really can't live without it lol
@NintyNate you can get all the "common" stuff offline.
@NintyNate : I'm a fool for not waiting. I haven't even played the first physical copy of Rocket League yet.
Rocket Legaue Plus.
Thanks SEGA
Oh no. Now I'm interested but have a backlog already. Darnit! Time to pit on the wishlist.
I think a tenner more is perfectly reasonable. Sucks but it's ok. 15 or up I'd probably find excessive.
@607jf what's that mean??? Lol common stuff is vague
@Silly_G I've never played RL myself looked fun but like everything now it's online and all and I have zero interest in online play... I'm oldskoool haha
My main account is on PC but I also bought RL for the Switch. It's nice to take it on vacations, etc., but the Pro controller is not as accurate or responsive as my Steam controller. Oh well.
I'm good with my vanilla digital version, thank you, but I'm glad to see the option available for fans who prefer to have most of the content in one neat package.

Exactly what I have been waiting for I will pre-order this. I just love it when they make physical releases.
@NintyNate I just checked you can earn Samus Gunship via offline matches with bots. (i was in Airplane mode with no nnid)
Ah the manufacturing costs. Nintendo charges this much, so, to compensate, we will pass that charge on to you. Guess Nintendo is waiting for certain costs to come down before dropping the cost of the bigger cards. Whatever the reason, Nintendo has the power to correct it. Until then, I guess we'll continue to get digi-retail games lol.
1) Bought it digital to see if it was for me
2) Bought it physical as "collector's edition" because it turned out to be for me and prefered physical...
3) Ultimate edition? Now triple dipping? Slap in the face! Where is the Jurassic Park/World DLC? Will that be included in next year's Definitive edition?
What can I say, this is what you get for early adapting? I thought early adaptors where the driving force behind your product...
Good things come to those that wait? F U
@Phin68 I didn't see the BttF DeLorean on the list.
