Sting's Wii Party RPG 'Dokapon Kingdom' Is Coming To Switch

Looks very cute! I don't feel like translating Japanese in the trailer so I have no idea what this is about, but I'll definitely try this one out. Also, Idea Factory and Compile Heart, huh.

Huh...they made the king's voice so high and squeaky in English. I'm kinda surprised it's deep in Japanese.

I have no idea how likely this is to come out here. The localization already exists, but it was Atlus and their licences don't tend to hold out too long. Would love it if they can pull it off, though.

Please pleassse port to the US! I got to play Dokapon Kingdom on the Wii a little bit but nowhere near enough. Such a good game!!!

Unironically, probably the thing I am now looking forward to the most in gaming 2023, with the possible exception of Pikmin 4.

Good news overall, but would have been even nicer localized... which the dev's earlier Switch ports, Baroque and the aforementioned Knights in the Nightmare, still aren't.

I'd absolutely love to see Baroque getting localized, it's the OG saturn/ps1 version too as I recall. The remake was cool but the crusty graphics and the old soundtrack work so much better for the kind of bizarre atmosphere it has going on.

I don't doubt that this game is getting a western release. They included English quotes at the beginning of the trailer, so they have to be aware that people outside of Japan love this game too. Aside from that, they're making a big deal about being able to play this game around the globe now. Now the real question is, will it still get a physical release? I certainly hope so.
Also, couldn't help but notice that one of the random NPC encounters was mysteriously absent from the trailer... Specifically a certain mole with a problematic name.

And there is a very miserable chance that they will be released worldwide... Personally, I don't think that they will be released worldwide. Too much time passed since releases of Yggdra Union and Knights in the Nightmare Switch ports in Japan...

@nhSnork Knights in the Nightmare and Yggdra Union are localized. Not on Switch, but on their original platforms. That's disappointing that they don't released their games worldwide. They are already localized! Well, seems like there are some problems with localizations' licenses or... They are just lazy and don't care about non-Japanese gamers... Baroque(original game, at least) was never localized before, sadly. This game seems to be obscure, interesting, and unique... Like many other Japan-only games, ehh(Эх)...

@Vyacheslav333 Sorry if I've never heard of those games, but Dokapon Kingdom has had more spotlight on some popular YouTube gaming channels, like TheRunawayGuys, Woolie VS., and Game Grumps. As someone who had this game on PS2 and Wii, I'm always happy to see this game get the exposure it deserves, and I feel like that does give it better chances of localization than Knights in the Nightmare and Yggdra Union.

REALLY hope this makes it to the West; always wanted to pick up this game after watching TheRunawayGuys play it but didn't want to have to spend nearly $200 on the Wii version.

My first glimpse of this and I was thinking it was little kings story in the thumbnail, that’d be nice. I don’t remember this game.

Eh. If this were a new game I'd be absolutely over the moon, but I have zero interest in a tweaked port. The original is fun at first but gets really repetitive and boring throughout the extremely long full board game. It takes way too long to finish a single game and its charm wears off.

The Wii version is crazy expensive now so that's good news!

Dokapon kingdom is the greatest "hate your friends" game, ever.

Wrapped inside that "for kids" exterior is a board game rpg with incredible depth and that spans 7 continents and heaven and hell.

All the while, you and 3 other players/ais go out of your way to screw each other over and slow down one another's progress.

Several classes, multiple cave mini maps, and plenty of random events. . .

This game was epic.

@Vyacheslav333 yeah, pretty much all of them are available in some English portable form, at least (Dolphin should run Baroque's Wii incarnation on my laptop, IIRC I've even come across an undubbed version). Same with some other stuff like Ar no Surge which is in English on Vita (perhaps it's the now bundled and never localized Ciel prequel that impedes the western release of the Switch port?). But no matter the degree of portability, I tend to pick these games on Switch regardless, as many of my 3DS and Vita items can testify - and these examples are very much in the "so close and yet so far" zone. At least unless I finally move past my decade-long procrastination as a Japanese learner.😆

Meh the Japanese could keep this one, looks too much like a mobile quality game and the PS2 version was terrible.

@FantasiaWHT has a point, though. It can be a long game, and can be quite grindy, though there are ways to speed it up or set a turn limit.

Brilliant game, but needs other players, the solo is pretty dull.

Figures. i just bought a wiiu to play all these older wii games. like return to dreamland for example now this haha. now if they can do Zack and Wiki that would be awesome. haha

If you enjoy party games don't look past this one. I can see this being a pretty big "streamer bait" game. We might just see a dokapon revival with this one.

Never heard of it before. Looks great. Didn't have 3 kids for nothing so another 4 player game to play with them, yay!

Great news, it's not uncommon for games like these to stay Japan only. Hope the online works well enough, because if so then this is gonna be really fun.
However I am confused as to why they censored some of the outfits? It has the same age rating as the previous release, no?
@AlanaHagues it would be cool if you could maybe ask Idea Factory International why they've chosen to do this, though I'd understand if you don't wanna openly ask them that and risk business relations.

@AlanaHagues When Atlus published the Wii (and/or PS2) version, they were proud to call the game the friendship-ruining game.

Though the franchise is one that has been around since the Super Famicom. I'm not sure how many other entries actually made it to the west, though.

This is def a party game. I would get this for a big game online specfically. Also I too would've preferred a sequel. But hey by all means, I'd love for this to drop to like $20ish bucks lol.

Yessss! I love this game and still break out the wii to play to this day!!! Altho, its far easier to hook the switch up to the theatre system I have now so I cannot wait!

@Beefcakeyamato @JohnnyMind I just bought Zack & Wiki last week off the WiiU eShop just in case. For $5! (it was a huge Capcom sale across WiiU and 3DS) If I can get a physical copy later, cool. But now it’s less of a priority.
