I laugh in the general direction of anyone downplaying the success of the Switch in comparison to the PS2 20 years ago.
Sure, population has increased. Sure it’s a handheld/console hybrid.
There are far, far more electronics to take people’s time and money. Sony is a giant, giant competitor to Nintendo (Sony was competing with 3 console makers who didn’t have a shot).
Also, Nintendo has done this without any price cuts. And they did it after the previous gen flopped catastrophically.
Yeah, if you’re downplaying the Switch’s success you’re having hard time seeing Nintendo’s fortunes reversed and I feel bad for you, but that’s just the way it is. Oh, and Switch 2 will also be a highly sought after console so get comfortable.
I really wish we had a better awards show. So much about this event rubs me the wrong way and every year all its faults become more apparent. Can’t stop this machine, though, can’t even corral it into a better, more thoughtful lane. Greed, vanity, excess with little respect shown to game creators or even the games being awarded. Oh, and that’s before the recent change of rules to allow a pet nominee in on a technicality.
Am I wrong for just wanting a remake of this game using the exact models that were in the original cinematics? Keep everything the same, but just update all the Dire Straits video looking character models.
Polls like this are meaningless, but when you don’t even give an option for “haven’t played the game” they are especially so. I won’t be bothering to vote or see results.
@Vivianeat no way. Those dudes are stand up and would never just say nice things because they were making money. Even with their sponsorships they are brutally honest about the quality of the game.
@Yalloo the only game that you should really judge it on is the first one on GameCube. It definitely isn’t for everyone and the animation style, particularly of cutscenes, can seem a bit…odd. But the gameplay loop of doing chores, finding new ways to climb to higher places in each room, all the while needing to make sure you’re close enough to plug into an outlet to recharge is so satisfying.
What is with developers just straight up copying old Nintendo games? I understand inspiration, but this isn’t flattery, it’s plagiarism. Are they really that obsessed with these games or do they not have any original ideas? It can’t be the latter. Help make it make sense.
Aero the Acrobat is obscure? It was one of the first games I owned on SNES. Such a fun game although I think I was pretty terrible at it. Let’s see how long that nostalgia trip lasts when I boot this up.
I can’t tell if NintendoLife supports this project or wants it to reach Nintendo faster by covering it. Either way, the Nintendo ninjas, as so many like to call them, are on their way. Well done.
It just be a reviewer thing or something. I never play a game trying to get to those markers. I am scouring, searching for secrets and trying to fill out my map.
But I definitely start my games all over again. A bunch. It’s the only way I can really continue a game after I’ve left it for a bit.
I hate to be one of these guys, but I’m only interested in the Dig franchise at this point. I bought Heist and Build and haven’t been hooked by either. Steamworld 3 or bust at this point for me.
@RobotReptile playing Mario 64 for the first time will probably always be the peak of my gaming experience. There’s no way to replicate that transition from 2D to 3D without giving us a holodeck at this point.
I’ll probably get fried for this comment, but man the N64 was an ugly console. Zelda and Mario 64 are tolerable, but this console has not aged well. I wonder what it’s like to have the nostalgia of growing up with this console as a kid. I can see that having a impact on these NSO releases.
You were just young. 9/11 had just happened. We were bombing into oblivion a nation that had nothing to do with it. The housing market was creating a false bubble that would nearly bankrupt the world…and poor/low income people have never recovered their place in that market. I’m sure you meant this as a joke, but the harsh reality is that as we grow older we become more aware of the sh*ttiness of this planet. The goal is to hold onto hope despite that new information.
I’m definitely going to take this review with a grain of salt. This is an indie sim that has actually carved out its own place in the genre with its use of machines. It reminds me of Astroneer, which I love. My Time at Portia isn’t a game I’d recommend to anyone, but I thoroughly enjoy playing it and I’m looking forward to visiting another area of this universe.
I didn’t expect a high review for this game, but a 5 seems almost like the reviewer was just upset they had to play the game in the first place, which I understand. There’s a lot of glut in the genre and if you’re being tasked with reviewing yet another one it can feel like tedium if it isn’t doing something new.
Still excited for the game and I’m hoping (and hopeful) that my experience at Sandrock won’t be an F grade experience.
The speed to switch from game to game is the reason I have went digital. If there were some sort of “cart changer” like a cd changer I could see myself going back to physical, but the convenience of being able to switch games on the fly far outweighs the value I would have of physical media.
I think this has more to do with the hype surrounding FaeFarm. Personally I’m glad they pushed it. FaeFarm, then Mario Wonder, then this will line up perfectly for the holiday. Mario RPG will be a just in case title for me. Terrible, I know.
Holy crap that Metroid at the bottom Of the list makes the entire list wrong. Sorry, but we don’t rate game libraries by what came later. Metroid is a top 10 NES of the time and of all time. Sad to see a games site putting this up as a credibility list.
Your headline is misleading. Obviously the article doesn’t state he was “in Bon Jovi” but your headline goes out of the way to act like he was. Could have been worded better as what you actually read isn’t as fanciful.
So much egg on all these CEO’s faces for their continued disdain of Nintendo consoles and their fanbase. We’ve seen it time and time again with bad ports, misguided alternate versions of flagship titles and just a general disinterest in reading Nintendo’s audience. There’s nothing like seeing the second best home console in the history of gaming not need the anemic Call of Duty franchise to thrive.
This release feels really special. Like Switch launch special. That’s a lot of weight to put on one title. In just a few days we’ll see if it can support that weight.
Successful or not they got people talking. That opening video reintroduced me to quite a few Nintendo YouTube channels. I own all the sets but haven’t put them together yet. One day, though.
I really hope game publication like NintendoLife treat anything revealed during tomorrow’s presentation as a spoiler. I’d rather not have to avoid gaming channels entirely for the next month and a half, but that may just be the case.
I picked 2017, but there hasn’t been a year that I haven’t eaten well. The Switch has been Nintendo’s most consistent generation in terms of quality and quantity of content. Let’s see if the can stick the landing. 2023 is getting off to a great start.
Digital here. Game looks amazing. Considering this shadow dropped, I think it’s a good sign that MP4 is progressing nicely and they’ll be ready to show us something in the next year. Nintendo has been sitting on this for a while and was waiting for the right time to let it loose.
I’m still hoping it was an error, but when Breath of the Wild came out it was my only game and I would have gladly paid the $400 for a Switch/BOTW to play the game. $70 is nothing compared to that.
@deady, not sure why you would think that. This developer always does a great job at optimization. If it doesn’t play perfectly on Switch they won’t release it there. Sure, it will look better on a PS5 or XSX or PC, but it will still be a great experience on the little tablet-that-could.
I would like to see an update focused on QOL issues like this and bug fixes. Make what is there work before you try to jam it full of new code that still doesn’t work properly.

I like that the mines seem to be in side scrolling 2D like Terraria. Interesting twist.

@batmanbud2 oh, I absolutely know that. My comment is more an expression of lost at what could have been a very magical title.

I wonder how many folks who crave 60 frame per second also love the “soap opera effect” while watching movies at home.
