Where would Mario be without Yoshi, his trusty steed ever since Super Mario World? We're big fans of the dinosaur's work, and can't wait to raid the art room in the upcoming Yoshi's Crafted World.
It seems somebody working for the US government is also a fan; as noted on Twitter by The Forest of Illusion, whoever made this little flash game about recycling thought some music from Yoshi’s Island DS might make things more interesting:
https://twitter.com/forestillusion/status/1096705143678988288
According to NintendoSoup, the music file itself is clearly labelled ‘yoshidsunderground.mp3’ on the server, so whoever's responsible didn't care to cover their tracks very well.
The game is still online – check it out yourself here. While Yoshi's Island DS wasn't our favourite outing for the Artist Formerly Known As T. Yoshisaur Munchakoopas, it's still infinitely more interesting than the US government's effort. You can't argue with the music, though.
How do you rate Recycle City Challenge? Think the US government should try its hand at game dev? Let us know below.

Seems legally a little off.
Well they did elect a Trumpet to lead them, might as well let Koji Kondo re-do their National Anthem at this point.
I wonder if Nintendo know about this....
For those of you unfamiliar with how things work in America, not how they claim they work, but how they actually work, it is pretty simple.
The laws only exist for lower and middle and some of the lower end of the upper class. For those in power, either politically, or in charge of major corporations, they can, and regularly do, brazenly ignore the law.
And to be fair, why should they bother following the law, when decades of precedent have shown no one can or will do anything about it? In America those in power are only ever held to account when they not only do something absolutely MAJOR but also do it so sloppily that they can't possibly deny it.
So if you're an average Joe, you have to follow the laws. But if you're someone like Jeff Bezos, Donald Trump, George Soros, the Koch Brother or any of the Bush or Clinton Royal families, you can do whatever and you just have to keep vaguely quiet about it.
Two sets of rules, on for the elite(and their henchmen), and one for everyone else.

Copyright infringment, go for it US government!!
Nintendo should do was all americans seem to do SUE!!
EVERYONE vs EVERYONE
Oh no, this comment section is rapidly becoming political. That’s the last thing we need, I’m just gonna skeet outta here.
Also Bernie for President 2020
The biggest crime here is Comic Sans
@Raylax lol, I agree completely. Our manager loves that font as well, and I cringe every time a new policy comes out and it's in Comic Sans.
They had to steal from the horrible sequel's soundtrack, just remembering the final boss theme is enough to cringe me back to last month.
YSDS is actually my second favourite Yoshi game, though the SNES original is vastly superior.
Nintendo should sue.
where can I donate to Nintendo's legal fund.
It all makes sense now. The government shutdown? The dishonest emergency declaration? False flags. Distractions from what's really going on. Recyclecitychallenge-gate is real. Wake up, sheeple.
A lot of the Mushroom Kingdom's problems would be solved if they built a wall and made Bowser pay for it!
No wonder Mario wears a red hat.
@SmaggTheSmug thank you Toad, very cool
Please please please pleeeasseee Nintendo sue the US Government...you can just add it to the pile of lawsuits against Trump!
@SmaggTheSmug And that is how you make a joke without being overly political, folks. Bravo, sir. 😁
Can't say I'm shocked, however silly this might seem
@Heavyarms55 thanks for clearing that up! Don’t forget, if you’re a dead black icon with a multi-billion dollar Estate, proven white liars and perjurers can and will be given a platform by the likes of HBO to pay your massive legal fees... earned when you unsuccessfully sue said Estate for hundreds of millions of dollars. This will also have the bonus effect of keeping the heat of the real monsters walking the Earth, for example Harvey Weinstein. Untouchable indeed.
Comic sans spotted. No need to argue. Won’t touch this pile of trash with a ten feet pole.
If they are so dead on about comic sans, why not just use megalovania!?
I'll see myself out.
Goverment gets sued by Nintendo. Can we get a F in chat?
Then Nintendo was probably already paid?
They recycled the music.
We have the best recycling games. No one in history has recycling games like our recycling games. More people play our recycling games than any other recycling games. And the music! We have the best recycling game music.
MARA!
@Heavyarms55 Well said! You're my new hero!
Cannot WAIT for Nintendo to sue the United States government for copyright infringement, and I'm an American citizen, born and raised.
Came in to have a laugh at what was likely one developer being lazy, see what they could get away with or wanting to inject some music they like. Find venting conspiratorial rants of individuals who probably just looking for excuses for their own failures in life.
TAXI!!! To the airport!!
From selling vitamins to recycling, Yoshi's got a lot of side gigs lately.
Would this be under fair use? Maybe not, if they used the full song, but I can't imagine you could sue much for a free educational game. Any legally knowledgeable people browsing?
Edit: Lots of.. "Interesting" comments. I'll put it out there that you'd sue the E.P.A. for this and not ambiguously "the (big bad) government" . Secondly, I can't imagine trump plays well with the Environmental Protection Agency. It's litter-ally a game made to teach kids to recycle along with encouraging renewable resources.
"You sure we won't get sued for this?"
"We work for the government. They wouldn't dare."
And I thought it was only Chinese firms which are blatant violators of Nintendo's copyright...
If you look at the source code for it, there's a javascript file called swearwords.js which I assume is used as a filter for input. Some good ones in there.
I don't normally like talking about politics, but seeing as it was one of President Trump's campaign promises to end Intellectual Property theft in China, this is sending a really bad message.
@Heavyarms55
Wow, it's almost like you explained the legal system in every country on earth.
"If you are really rich, you can usually get out of any punishments if you commit a crime"
And all it took for us to be enlightened was the words of someone with an anime boobs avatar!
Sounds pretty fitting for the US Government at this point. Not like they don’t steal all the way up to the top.
This is just to the coax the Green Dino to pay his taxes. C’mon Yoshi 🖐 it over.
Funny if they actually have permission and everyone gets bamboozled.
Wouldn't it be under fair use? At least they didn't say they made it themselves.
Imean they aren't selling this flash game so I don't see the problem. I remember playing many flash games that had Mario music, Zelda, Pacman, etc. Just with worse visuals. All them miniclips and megagames.
@Heavyarms55
I mean technically that happens to be everywherein the world. The average Joe usually is the one that has to follow the law and people on power just do whatever in secrecy.
Heck, look at Mexico. The drug cartels are in power able to threaten and kill in the streets, and my family all they can do is keep there heads down and when threatened, are forced to leave location or they will get killed. And the governor's all they do is eat, sleep, and act like they give a crap, yet do nothing because they won't get money if they go against it (and they dont care to).
With honesty, you gain the people's trust. Anything else usually gets the people's money.
@heavyarms yup. So what do you do about it? Literally, the worst crimes imaginable are permissible for those with a lot of capital and power. As others have stated, it's not just USA, though.
Face it, some college intern made this as a project, and with the furlough, it probably wasn't vetted properly.
@Heavyarms55 as somebody (Anatole France) once said, “The law, in its majestic equality, forbids rich and poor alike to sleep under bridges, to beg in the streets, and to steal their bread.”
Walks into thread expecting to see comments about copyright infringement and Yoshi jokes
Leaves when politics start getting involved
@Blitzenexx Politics ruin everything. We should just be able to have a little fun at the expense of a crappy little internet game, but no...
“We’re gonna use that music track, and they’re gonna pay for it!” - Donald Trump
@MrDisappointed: Agreed. While I don't mind discussing politics in the right setting, I don't believe that most areas of the internet fit the bill if some comment sections (Reddit, Facebook, Twitter) are anything to go by. I come to a gaming site for gaming-related news and discussions.
@Blitzenexx Yes! Politics and entertainment do not mix well.
Missed opportunity. Tag line should have been ‘he’s been popping up a lot lately ‘ in reference to Crafted world, other Yoshi headlines and the Yoshi doll in Links Awakening, soon to be remade. Remember this for the next article NL
...Ew, Yoshi's Island DS music.
@Kevember Oh I watch the news. And have yet to see him receive any meaningful punishment. Him, or anyone else in power in America.
Awesome I want to play it!
@Heavyarms55
"Oh I watch the news. And have yet to see him receive any meaningful punishment."
I thought someone with an astute legal mind such as yourself would have realized that to be punished for something, first you need to have been found guilty of something in a court of law.
@KennyBania lol, I'll be the first to admit I have nothing close to an "astute legal mind". You aren't wrong that to be punished in legal terms you must be convicted in a court of law. But for that to happen, you have to be subject to the law in the first place.
The elite in America aren't.
@Heavyarms55
"The elite in America aren't"
Nor are they in Europe, Asia, South America, India, Russia, etc.
@KennyBania I can't speak for those locations. I can only speak for the places I am familiar with and have lived in. America and Japan. Japan has its share of problems in other areas, but it does tend to come down pretty harsh on leadership when there is a scandal or problem.
Went to site sounds like the audio got axed - I don't hear it now....
So China and the US aren't so different after all.
I can't be surprised by anything coming out of the US Govt these days, big or small, smh....
"Who would ever notice?"
