Re: New Handheld Channels The Spirit Of The Game Boy And Can Run Virtual Boy Games

Llamageton

PocketCHIP has been a thing since the inception of the CHIP, at least since the kickstarter. The ONLY news here is that it's getting the PICO-8 software and license preinstalled for no extra charge. That's it.
Anyway, it'd be cool if they and EvilDragon can somehow work together to get CHIP working inside a fully functional OpenPandora case, as the CHIP has relatively similar specs to the 1 GHz Pandora.

Re: Three New Titles Have Been Added to the Humble Friends of Nintendo Bundle

Llamageton

Pretty good additions. I've been waiting to get EX after trading in my copy of Nano Assault, but wanted to wait until I some day got around to getting a New 3DS (except now I've had my JP New 3DS for over half a year now and never got around to buying it on that lol....welp now I have a code for the game, but....no American New 3DS, just a 2DS :/). Runbow I've been interested in but never felt the urge to buy right away and S&S2 was definitely on my buy list as my little brother loved the original....until I forgot about it that is ahaahahahah.....

Re: Poll: Are You Confident About Nintendo's 3DS Focus for 2016?

Llamageton

As a system, it's way too long in the tooth now. Needs a replacement very soon, or at least a mighty hefty price drop.
Or even better, another revision called the DS Micro with plastic and aluminum construction, genius miniaturized design, and faceplates.
Now that Wii U is essentially dead, Nintendo NEEDS 3DS to pull them through the entire year. Thankfully they have Pokemon coming to the rescue. It'll likely be the final notable major game on 3DS and the last system seller but boy will it sell. For EU they have that popular Fates game to help and the west in general will have Monster Hunter to help a little in sales.

But yeah, New 2DS Micro aka DS Micro PLEASE Nintendo. K thx bye

Re: Fire Emblem Mobile Game Will Offer "Accessible" Yet "Engaging" Gameplay

Llamageton

Just how much more accessible can they make the gameplay? Awakening and Fates are the epitome of simple SRPG gameplay. They can be translated to mobile easily with no changes and still be accessible to the mobile gaming audience as that was exactly what they were designed for.
I guess if they wanted to dumb down gameplay even further, they can remove the weapon tiers and ranks so that there's just one of each weapon type + "legendary" weapons (maybe) and also remove weapons triangle so no one has to consider weapon effectiveness. They could also bring stats back to the GBA era by making STR and MAG the same, and they could even take things further by making DEF and RES the same thing (even though they aren't) and also remove the LUK stat.
What else can be removed?
Whatever the case, I'm sure this would make the game even more mobile friendly than it already was and the Awakening and Fates crowd will surely adore this game as well.

Perhaps we can get all character art be done by a ton of guest artists rather than just one, like most mobile games? I'd love to see Kita Senri illustrate a character or two again and I'd love to see an original FE character from Fujisaka Kimihiko and Hakoda Maki.

EDIT: Perhaps the game will be similar to Chain Chronicle in structure, where there is a main story but you can play minor sidequests/side stories that can be event related or even character related.
Everyone here seems to think that mobile essentially means it has to be completely dumbed down gameplay or no content, however games like Chain Chronicle, which are heavily character driven just like FE, can prove the opposite and still be quite popular (though sadly CC has shut down...).
If Nintendo and DeNA can structure mobile FE like Chain Chronicle, but with FE gameplay, they'll have a winner on their hands.

Re: Fire Emblem and Animal Crossing Franchises Are Heading to Smart Devices

Llamageton

@Socar
Exclusivity on mobile from now on could be damaging for them. I think they think of mobile as just the third pillar for them rather than a replacement for their handhelds.
As for profitability.... Yeah....expect micro transactions for special characters (or calssic characters like Awakening's DLC), special classes, unit revivals, "energy" or "stamina" for continued playing without waiting, costumes, accessories, etc.

Re: The Legend of Zelda for Wii U Will Be The Only Playable Nintendo Game at E3

"E3 formula successfully in the past two years"
In what universe would those horrific shows be called successful?

@AVahne - as you were advised last week in another comments section, please refrain from using profanity, as it's against the community rules, and persistent offenders may be subject to further action, which is always best avoided. Thanks muchly

Re: Fire Emblem and Animal Crossing Franchises Are Heading to Smart Devices

Llamageton

@Socar
Why not? Awakening and Fates were essentially mobile phone games released for 3DS exclusively instead. Their designs have been made to finally reach this point.
There's even already a mobile game called Phantom of the Kill that pretty much was an attempt to clone Awakening for mobile gamers. I expect this mobile FE to function similarly to that game.

Re: Fire Emblem and Animal Crossing Franchises Are Heading to Smart Devices

Llamageton

Animal Crossing makes a lot of sense, and honestly so does Fire Emblem now.
I've been saying it and saying it and saying it, Fire Emblem as it is now is completely perfect for the mobile audience and mobile gameplay, with just a few minor tweaks. I'm not sure if this will be a full game, but the FE brand as a mobile game has been a long time coming since Awakening's overall design made it so popular with mainstreamers.

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo Needs to Excite A Mainstream Audience in 2016

Llamageton

Nintendo's been doong a hell of a lot of mainstreaming this generation already, what with them desperate to win back the mobile crowd as well instead of just focusing on the core fanbase that they've been steadily losing over the years.
Games like Splatoon, Star Fox Zero, Metroid FedFo, the two recent Fire Emblem games, etc etc. All were made specifically to appeal to the mainstream first and the fans later.

Re: Rumour: NX Software Lineup Will "Blow Away" Wii U, Controller Streaming Gimmick "Was Made Up"

Llamageton

Good, the gimmick rumor has been killed. These days Nintendo has been obsessed with doing things first rather than doing things well, so for them to pretty much do what Vita's Remote Play and Shield's Gamestream has been doing would've been strange to see. Also it really made no sense for such a device not to have processors inside even though it's supposedly able to stream content everywhere.

Re: Rumour: Nintendo Once Worked On A Game Boy Successor That Promised N64 Power In Your Pocket

Llamageton

This would've been an extremely incredible machine and would've killed the Sega Nomad more than it already killed itself (I LOVE my Nomad though). At least we eventually got the 32-bit GBA, which is like the best portable console ever made by anyone. Sure its 3D isn't on par with the PS1, much less the N64, but it was still damn incredible seeing 3D graphics on it at all.
Too bad this never came to be, but it makes me appreciate Sony's portables even more. They took Nintendo and Sega's discarded mantle of power and made two amazing handhelds with it. Too bad they're quitting already at just two portables, kinda like Sega did.

Re: Poll: The Wii U GamePad - Where Do You Stand on Nintendo's Hefty Controller?

Llamageton

It could definitely be used better if devs had actually wanted to develop for it, but at the same time I feel it's not as good or useful as the second screen on their portables and that the concept itself reeks of desperation.

In personal usage, I'll use it when I'm absolutely required to but I would rather use a pro controller as the Gamepad's awful battery life alone is enough to make me despise actually using it.

Re: Rumour: Nintendo Is Planning A Series Of Wii U Remasters For NX

Llamageton

Knowing Nintendo these claims are most likely false. Anyway I've already decided I won't be getting the home console, as I just don't think Nintendo has what it takes to build a competent and competitive console anymore. Even if the NX does end up being somewhat powerful, it'll be best to wait skip this generation and see if they can support it well, then see how the history of the NX affects the next console. The Wii had a hugely negative impact on the Wii U, which in turn will only have a negative impact on the NX.
Anyway I would rather get a portable anyway. Once Nintendo releases their next STANDALONE portable, I'll wait a couple years for it to get decent games, and for the hardware refresh to come that will fix the major issues with the launch model.
For now I'm just staking out on the fledgling Windows portable console/gaming UMPC scene. I know the GPD Win will be a real thing, but I'll be waiting to see if someone releases one that doesn't have a poor price to specs ratio and doesn't have extremely glaring design flaws (GPD's keyboard design is one of the stupidest I've ever seen).
