Re: Gallery: Let's Take a Look at the Nintendo Switch

Thinking about pricing, if it's indeed $300-400 that might actually be fair since it's a portable. Unlike the 3DS and Wii u, the Switch thankfully does not have any insanely expensive (and arguably pointless) gimmicks that do more for driving up the console's price than for providing enjoyable gameplay. The various docking ideas are smart, modern, and well designed.
If the device is "expensive", it'll be because it's a fairly powerful MOBILE device. Mobile as in something you're able to move it around and that is completely self-sufficient. I assume $300-400.
At this point we need to NOT compare it to the XBone, PS4 and PC as well as any other stationary box that plays games. Yes it can connect to a TV, but so can most other mobile devices; it should be said that its main purpose is that of a portable.
Therefore, I say that it should be compared to other mobile devices including, phones, tablets, UMPCs, and laptops in the $300-400 price bracket. All of which are also capable of gaming, with some having an actual inclination towards gaming like the GPD Win and Lynx Vision. When compared to these mobile device categories, the Switch is likely on par with some and stronger than the other devices in this price bracket and when you think of it this way, a $300-400 price point would be completely justified. All those other devices have a main function aside from gaming, like being a phone or a computer. The Switch's is being a gaming machine and it'll be the best at it in the $300-400 mobile category (which is actually a big category, so I do believe the Switch can be very, very successful AS LONG AS NINTENDO MARKETS IT CORRECTLY, i.e. DO NOT MARKET IT AS AN ALTERNATIVE TO XBONE, PS4, AND PC AND DO NOT, FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS NINTENDO, DO NIT MARKET IT AS SOME KIND OF OVERLY UNIQUE BOX THAT LIVES IN ITS OWN FREAKING BUBBLE; rather, market it as a mobile gaming device that is quite simply THE BEST mobile gaming device you can get on the market, bar none)

I'm really loving the fact that Nintendo finally decided to learn from their competitors and from various, unique Android devices.
Things like NO MORE FARKING ACCIDENTAL CART EJECTIONS.

EDIT: Another thing crossed my mind, we'll FINALLY have a modern looking Monster Hunter game! Capcom was able to escape developing a modern looking MH game on Vita and/or PS4 because the 3DS existed, but now they have nowhere else to run. Time to finally give Monster Hunter the facelift it so rightfully deserves and perhaps so direly needed.

Re: Say Hello to the Nintendo Switch, a New Concept for Gaming

Llamageton

It looks quite nice design wise, for once, but I hate the DPad. Also, this isn't exactly a new concept, but a mixmashing of various existing concepts into one almost-coherent package.
Which I honestly prefer over Nintendo flailing about with some over-the-top gimmick that either entertains people for two seconds or confuses them about why it even exists.
For once Nintendo is copying everyone else, especially those devices in the Android space, and they're doing a good of it since they're putting their own DNA in it.

Besides, the name Switch is good. It makes sense and isn't lame like every name from the previous generation. It's like Nintendo drove their old naming team to the forest and then brought in new people who had an actual naming sense.
That said, I'm not getting this at launch. I might not even get it for 3 or 4 years. I've been burned far too many times in the previous generation by Nintendo so I'll be taking a break from buying new stuff. If I wanted Nintendo console games, I already have a Wii U with a bunch of games (that I admittedly can barely muster the strength to play, i.e. it's in another room). Most of Nintendo's home console games aren't something I want to play on the go at the moment. I also already own a couple New 3DS (JP and NA) for Ninty's portable efforts and for the few home console ports like Hyrule Warriors and console-style games like MH that pop up on it.
In 4 years time, the hype and dust will have settled and I'll get a good look at the situation. By then there should be a price drop or two and a new model or two. Games library will be bigger as well, even if Switch flops like Wii U the library will still be better at that time than at launch. All kinks in design should be worked out as well from the revisions, just like how the standard New 3DS fixed most of the 3DS's family HORRID design flaws. The youngest child carries the hope of the entire family this time, it seems.

Until then, my Vita and GPD Win will be more than enough to satisfy my cravings of console gaming on the go (and in bed before sleeping). Of course they won't get (Vita), or at least struggle to play (Win) the latest games that the NX SHOULD have little trouble getting and running (assuming Nintendo doesn't flarb up 3rd party relations YET AGAIN), but eh, those can wait. Hmmm, hmmm, by 2021 there may be the chance that another company other than GPD might make a decently powerful gaming UMPC that can run those 3rd party games at least as well as the Switch....guess it'll depend on price.

@LegendOfPokemon
The 2DS is reasonably priced NOW, after several price drops. The standard New 3DS's price is....good enough, with the extra plates and bundled game that I already have. A non-bundle at $150 NOW would be troubling.
But my biggest problem with Nintendo's pricing is that the XL stayed at $200 until the New XL came out at $200, and it's staying there. In my opinion that's way too high for the hardware on offer and goes against what Nintendo used to do with their handhelds (DS and previous); offering great handheld experience with great battery life and competitive, affordable prices. And this is before we compare it to its competition's prices and hardware.
Fortunately for Nintendo, people are still buying their handhelds at such high prices, but I sincerely hope they don't think that high prices and cheap hardware will work all the time.

Vita or Shield Portable...can't really decide. I could also get it on Steam for my GPD Win...hard to decide on a portable.
Not going to be wasting money on an NX so I'm ruling that out.
3DS is too weak for this so I'm sure that won't be getting a version.

Let's see...oh right I'm out of room on my Vita's memory card, so that's out. My GPD Win might need more room for bigger games so....Android version for Shield Portable it is!

Re: Review: Paper Mario: Color Splash (Wii U)

Hmm...maybe later next year or in 2018. I've already spent a lot of money on the GPD Win, my preorder of Superdimension Neptune's LE and a preorder for the Deluxe edition of Final Fantasy 15. Then I gotta save up some money for the 1/100 Gundam Barbatos Lupus Full Mechanics model kit which either comes out in November or December. So unfortunately no money will be used on Nintendo until maybe after Zelda U releases, but I'll want to complete FF15 once or twice or thrice before I get that game.

Re: Editorial: Rediscovering the Gems of the Wii U Library

Wasn't an awful console, just not as good as the Wii.
Yeah I said it, I enjoyed the Wii (first gen) more than the Wii U.
Which happens to be backwards compatible with the Wii, so that's a major thumbs up for it.
Still, the time I spent playing Wii games was far greater than the time spent on Wii U. Granted most of that can be contributed to less time to play games, and also being financially capable of owning more than one console that isn't Nintendo and having a gaming PC, but also because of interest level.

Re: Feature: Five Franchises That Deserve A Fresh Chance on the Nintendo NX

All of the above, plus a Fire Emblem from Taeko Kaneda, preferably a sequel to Radiant Dawn. The only thing that can convince me to eventually get an NX and to even give a damn about this series anymore is a Fire Emblem game directed by Taeko Kaneda and ONLY Taeko Kaneda (I'd take one from Shouzo Kaga, too, but he's retired/exiled from Nintendo and only works on super low scale projects like Vestaria Saga in his free time nowadays).

Re: Nintendo is Reportedly Taking 'Final Orders' on Wii U Consoles From Retailers

@shani
Because:
1) Those games being shown are VERY OLD (still, they're not as bad as N64 level, art thou blind?).
2) These games are NOT as well optimized as a port to a home console would be. Devs don't have as much incentive to do a mobile port to just one line of chipsets with a limited amount of users as they do for a popular, mainstream machine like Sony's and MS's consoles. Same reason why ports to the Wii U tend to pale in comparison to PS3 and 360, well maybe not as extreme.

MonHun 5 for PS4 and PC please.
Well, I guess multi-plat ports for NX and XBone as well.
Would be nice to finally see a major game that allows co-op between all the major platforms. Could foster friendship and good feelings within the gaming community and what not (or spark a new war based on which side has more noobish players).
Plus, that gives Capcom far more venues for MH-based revenue with just one game.

Re: The Dolphin Emulator Can Now Play the Entire GameCube Library

Llamageton

@Petey4Smash
Well thing is, the Wii U is technically backwards compatible with Gamecube as well, so getting Gamecube games to run on Wii U would likely be similar to how they got downloaded Wii games to run.
And about your 10 year theory, thing is, Nintendo put DS games, which are newer than Gamecube games, on Wii U. Unlike Wii and Gamecube games, that can run directly on the hardware, their DS games require an emulator. Which costs them money to develop, so honestly there really isn't any good reason for them NOT to put Gamecube games on Wii U eShop.

Re: The Dolphin Emulator Can Now Play the Entire GameCube Library

@Petey4Smash
Nintendo is just......weird. None can pretend to understand the way they make their decisions, and honestly there's no point. Nintendo does whatever the hell they want, even if it damages consumer and fan relations. They don't care, nor do they need to care considering how wide their coffers be.
Anyway, they probably only did DS on Wii U because someone at Nintendo thought people would be overjoyed to play handheld games on the big screen with the gamepad working as the second screen....without realizing that the ONLY reason why DS's dualscreen setup was usable was because they were right next to each other.
