A listing on Nintendo UK's site has revealed the file size for the forthcoming Monster Hunter Generations on 3DS.
According to the site, Capcom's sequel will swallow up 12,534 blocks of storage - that equates to 1.56GB. For reference, the Japanese version - released under the title Monster Hunter Cross - was 1.2GB.
Will you have to clear some space to fit this on your 3DS system? Let us know by venturing into the comments section.

Well, I at least won't have to clear up any space. I have a fairly large memory card and not a great deal of games installed. However, even if I didn't have the space I decided I don't like Monster Hunter after trying 3 on both the Wii U and 3DS.
Why is the Western version larger I wonder? I'll be buying digitally this time I think as I have a 32GB SD card and haven't used it as much as I'd like becuase buying from Amazon is always cheaper but I have both 3U and 4U physically and I have too many physical games to carry in my carry case now. Plus would be cool to always have it on the system to play when I wish.
I'm going to name the dragon in that thumbnail "Cornflower."
Why is the file size different? Weird. I don't care how much space it takes - it's fitting on my 3DS somehow!
I could have all 3 Monster Hunter games installed and still have a ton of space.
More importantly, when will it be released? I've been actively hunting on MH4U preparing myself for the release of Generations.
My body is ready!
I'm actually prepared to download it. I think the MH series screams for pick-up and play sessions so having it right there on the system will benefit me greatly.
I can't wait for this game. I'm not messing around this time. I'm getting it immediately so I don't get left behind.
I'm glad I put a 32gb card in mine, I don't think I'll have to worry about space for the for the foreseeable future.
@Tsurii That's what I was thinking, must be because there's more than one language. But special content? That sounds nice. Unlikely but nice!
Also, just to compare, anyone know how big MH4U's file is?
This needs to be a download game.... I was glad I downloaded MH4.
Luckily my 3DS comes with disc drive slot where a cartridge can be inserted.
Using a 200gb micro SD got plenty of room just waiting now
Wonder why west is bigger, but that amount is still pretty much nothing. I almost never download games, but if Nintendo can FINALLY finish up modernizing their account system to give control to the account holders and allow for more than one installation I'll download it.
@Moon MH4U is considerably bigger at around 2.6gb
..these games are Monsters compared to all my other games.. My 128g will catch it tho..
I made sure to open the New 3ds XL and put in a 32 gb memory card! 4gb that comes with it is nowhere near enough! best handheld ever
That's not too bad. It's definitely going to be a download for me.
Here was me thinking it was going to be larger than 14,000 blocks which is my biggest download to date.
Shin Megami Tensei IV is over 14,000 blocks and it forced me to upgrade my SD card on my New 3DS XL. Haven't regretted it though, having nearly 170,000 blocks of space!
@Qun_Mang Too bad, because monster hunter 3 has nothing on 4 ultimate.
Yikes, glad I'm going physical
i read it as if the game title was 'space monster hunter' which would be an awesome sequel.
@Kickbutt_gaming Dittoooooo to that, but even if I did have a bigger SD card filled with MOAR gb's, I would still get the physical copy regardless.
Well, I got 128 gb micro sd in my new 3ds, so I think I got the room.
I would have space for it but I only finished the low rank quests on MH3, and haven't even touched MH4 (which I bought around launch =_=) Sooooo I won't be getting this for a long time, if ever.
I had a launch 3DS, and slowly but surely went from a 4GB to an 8GB (and then because of Monster Hunter 3U) to a 16GB, and just upgraded to a 32GB when I got a New 3DS. As anti-digital as I was going into this, you just can't turn away certain deals on the eShop. After almost 5 years of ownership, you can slowly amass a lot of games
upgrading the memory is key! no looking back haha@Flopsy86
@Jamotello Ha, that's next year's! Really, that sounds like something that could be interesting. Imagine fighting Rathalos on the moon and making these huge, low-g jumps!
wow that's awesome man I thought it was set with 32 gb@MajinCubyan
damn son that's crazy @Zemus-DJ
Read 'Space Monster Hunter' and realised that I would love to see that.
I got a 32 off of Amazon for like $6 and change the other day. I'll never fill it up
Still have about half of my 64GB free, I guess I'll get this one digitally. But man... I think I'll never finish the MH3U and MH4U at this rate.
When i first played monster tri on the wii (launch) i was hooked on this game from there on out. I used a female character and then on monster hunter 3u and 4u i used my guy character. Should i return with my female character for Cross ??? Anyhow, i have tons of space and im just counting down the days. Cant wait to hunt my life away again !
I have a 32gb microSD so I'm good with storage.
No problemo.
The size isn't as bad as I thought it would've been, though I'll probably go with retail again especially if it gets a pre-order bonus.
Zero! As I won't be buying due to no voice chat online!
Eh, I'm going physical anyways...I just wonder how that...bonus content thing will be handled if my 4U is also physical. >.>
Would love to get into Monster Hunter but just don't have the time
Why couldn't I have this game when I was younger and had tonnes of time on my hand?
@Qun_Mang did you actually play MH3U or just the demo? The demo was terrible.
However, the demo for MH4U is actually really good. I would suggest you try it out. It's even better if you have a friend download it for the multiplayer. It has online and local.
I cannot wait for this game!!! I still can't put down MH4U, however.
I'll be passing on Generations. 4U was my first handheld MH game and I realized quickly that I didn't like it (not the game, the cramped controls). MH is a console series for me, unfortunately Capcom doesn't have a console MH planned as far as any of us know.
@Moon It's kinda why Megaman Battle Network had content cut, mostly in 6. English text eats up more space.
@Megumi it will look for data stored on the SD card.
@Arehexes Oh, makes sense, kinda figured everything would be on the cart.
I have a 32 GB card and I am actually starting to worry it might fill up considering I have gone all digital.
Definitely getting this game though due to the "freshness" and "bombastic" it brings to the series xD Oh and less grindy grind... hopefully.
I wonder if there will be a G version (GX?) down the line or is this the absolute version of Generations?
@aj_fowl @Mrrabbitpuncher I played the actual games, checked out from my local library. I'll grant that I didn't play them for long, so maybe it gets better after a slow start, IDK. Maybe I'll check out MH4 some time.
@dkxcalibur I hear ya about getting left behind. I bought MH4U sometime last fall, never got to it (because I was clearing my backlog), and just when I was about to pick it up this year I started Fire Emblem Fates. And then Bravely Second just came out (which I think I'll play next after I complete Birthright; take a break before going into FE Conquest). I don't think I'll ever get to MH4U so I'll probably just get on MHGenerations when it releases. I don't care, I'll drop whatever I'm playing (if I'm playing some other game when it releases) just to make sure I get on it, lol!
Seems fair enough to me. I upgraded to a 32gb card when MH4U came out
I mis-read the title as 'Space Monster Hunter', I thought it's a new Capcom Monster Hunter game based in outer space. It would be a great idea though, hacking space alien monsters on different planets.
And why is the game size getting smaller every generation? MH3 is big, MH4 is smaller and now this new one is a lot smaller!
@Nintendian 3U had higher-quality assets, using mostly stuff from Tri- thus, it had a 30 fps framerate on the 3DS. 4U was designed specifically for the 3DS, and ran at (a highly inconsistent unless using a "New" model) 60 fps.
MHX/MHGen lacks G-rank and proper monster intros (meaning there's a lot less pre-rendered stuff going on); however, the Nu3DS enhancements from 4U are brought over to every version of the game, with a 30 FPS lock and some better lighting effects on the Nu3DS.
Just stopping by to contribute to the HYPE, which should be even larger than the file size.
@LukeNI On Amazon, the release date is expected to be july31st, and if you have prime like my dad, it is 20 percent off, giving you a price of 32 dollars, PLUS free shipping, so if you don't have Amazon, GET IT NOW
@BrooklynRanger Thanks for that. Prime is great but luckily my brother works in a game store and I get 25% off all new releases! Lucky me
