Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (May 28th)

Triangle Strategy
I believe I'm on chapter 15. The game has been fun though I have some minor gripes with it.

I like how different all the playable units feel and I've been using all the ones I have. The only unit I don't really like is Medina. I just don't think spending money on healing items and dedicating one character to using them is worth it. There are so many other items I'd rather buy.

I'm honestly impessed by how important money is in the game. There are so many great ways to spend it.

Unfortunately, I don't really like how the branching paths are handled. The choices haven't felt that significant. Most of the paths join again soon after the decision. I'd also like more variation in who's voting what. So far you basically just have to get the one person who can't decide on your side and your path is chosen. But you can also easily get everyone on your side. I'd like a grim looking situation where everyone wants to go one way and you need to change everyone's mind to take the other path. Maybe they do this later on.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land
Halfway through desert world. Really good game but has pacing issues. There are too many time challenges too often and you need to do them if you want to upgrade abilities. I'm glad I started playing alone instead of waiting for summer when I could've played it with my sister. There would've been too much downtime for the other player.

Days of Memories ~ 僕の一番大切な君へ
Got my second ending earlier today. Another bad ending, I guess. Last time I spent most time with Fio. This time I ended up spending time with Mature and Blue Mary which lead to a weird situation where I'm basically working with Mature and Vice on their and Goenitz's plan which Blue Mary is looking into.

The first game was very basic dating simulation and while the second game is basically the same game mechanically, it feels like there's much more going in the background storywise. There are more non-dateable characters and they have bunch of screen time.

Re: Soapbox: Free Game Updates Are Fantastic For Everyone, Except New Players

Late

I bought Dead Cells back when it was part of the online trial. It got universal praise back when it launched so I was already interested in it but actually playing it was the push I needed to buy it. It didn't have the latest big update back then but I assume there was still a good chunk of extra stuff added by then.

Did I know what was there from launch and what was new? No. It all blends together so well that I didn't even think about it. I enjoyed constantly discovering new weapons and areas. I love how big the game is but at the same time each run takes more and more time as you get further and that's why I never beat the game. I think I got close though.

It'll be interesting to see how the game has changed since then once I finally boot it up again.

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl: Duel #95 - Earthbound / Mother 2

Late

Neither is great but I went with NA. I don't mind Japan going for the minimalistic look but it's still bit weird that the middle third of the box is just plain red. NA box looks like someone vomited on it. I guess it goes well with their marketing for the game. I like that you can see Ness on the box though. I didn't notice him for the longest time. Probably because I've never seen the actual box, only images of the box art so the resolution may have made it more difficult to spot him.

Re: A Bunch Of NIS America Games Get Huge Price Cuts On 3DS (Europe)

Late

I'm glad they brought these sales back. They used to occur every two months or so throughout the last couple of years. It's a bit smaller selection this time. They used to have pretty much every SMT and EO on sale at the same time except for EOV for whatever reason. I'm still missing that one.

@moodycat I personally really enjoyed Culdcept Revolt. I don't think it's for everyone but if you're ready for some deckbuilding and more interesting game of Monopoly (or Fortune/Boom Street) with pretty good AI opponents, then go for it. Its story mode should keep you busy for a while.

Re: Video: MVG Investigates The Switch Online GBA Emulator Leak

Late

As some have already mentioned, this supposed leak happening now doesn't mean they'll be coming right away. There's no correlation between the two.

I personally expect GB/GBC/GBA or whatever else they have in mind to come during the second half of the year like the previous services. Around the time when people are running out of their subscriptions if they started their subscription from day one, to entice them to keep their subscription going.

Re: Japan's Next Trial For Nintendo Switch Online Has Been Revealed

Late

The demo has been waiting on my Switch since release. I think it's finally time for me to check this game out.

I've been studying Japanese for little over 2 years and recently passed the hurdle where I can just enjoy media in Japanese without it feeling like work. I don't understand everything but I understand enough to get by and don't feel like I need to stop to translate the rest.

Banjo-Kazooie
I've been playing Banjo for the first time and just finished it earlier today with all notes and jiggies. Great game. I understand why people like it so much. My only problem is that Switch Online has annoying button mapping which made the final boss battle harder than it should've been.

F-Zero X
Finished the initial three cups on Novice and unlocked more vehicles.

Something else. Not sure what game I end up playing, maybe Splatoon 2. I've played it for almost 150 hours, yet I never finished the story mode so I'll play through it before the next game comes out. I had exact same situation when 2 was coming out.

Re: Looks Like Some People In The West Are Playing The Mario Kart 8 DLC Early

Late

@dil_power Fair. I only got Deluxe after the DLC announcement. I haven't played 8 since Wii U days so now it feels fresh all over again. Especially the original DLC cups which I've only played couple of times.

I'm personally happy we're getting DLC rather than a new game. My problem is that they usually drop some stuff whenever they make a new game so it's a possibility that they'd get rid of anti-gravity, which I quite like, just to have some kind of new mechanic so they can justify calling it a sequel. I wouldn't mind if they got rid of the glider, though. The glider sections are so brief, yet slow-paced, and they don't offer much variety. They could be replaced by ramps and nothing of value would be lost.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus
Filling the Pokédex and doing side missions. I need one more Unown and ~12 more wisps. Other than that, I'm mainly missing legendary and baby Pokémon.

The King of Fighters XV
Some matches with my friend. The game is great but there's a bug that prevents me from playing the story mode. The cutscenes aren't playing. I hope they'll find a fix soon.

Detective Pikachu
Had quite a long break from this game due to Arceus. 4th chapter. Found the secret passage that takes me to the lake. Playing in Japanese.

Trip World
Lost to the final boss and have to start over. I'll get them next time.

Re: Poll: The End Is Coming, But How Much Will You Miss The Wii U And 3DS eShop?

Late

I don't really miss the Wii U eShop but I'm sad to see the 3DS eShop close. I'm still an active 3DS user. They haven't had any sales for a while now, even Atlus games stopped being 5-10€ a piece every two months or so. I'll buy games here and there in preparation for the shutdown. At least they gave good amount of time to react.

@Bunkerneath I did that for Pokémon Shuffle. I played over 700 hours in total. S ranked all 700 main stages, all 700 hard mode main stages and all EX stages, except the last two. I gave up on completing the game couple of years ago because the last two stages are just way too nasty and I've hit my skill cap. Never spent money on microtransactions.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus
Finished the third area this morning. Rank 8. I get sidetracked all the time. The game's just fun.

The King of Fighters 2002 Unlimited Match
I've been playing KoF with my friend almost every weekend for a good while now. Switching games soon as KoF XV is out in couple of weeks. Pretty excited for that one.

Re: Feature: Remembering The Newest Nintendo IP You'd Forgotten All About

Late

The demo has been sitting on my Switch for a year now. I believe I'd be able to enjoy it by now but my current focus is playing Detective Pikachu in Japanese. Or it would be if it weren't for Arceus. I'm taking a break from detective work for now.

I've also attempted singing the theme song from Buddy Mission BOND once or twice back when I had Joysound subscription. Didn't go that well since I had only heard it once before. It was one of those special songs that had its own trailer playing in the background while singing instead of the regular 2017 Nintendo game trailers.

Re: Cult Classic Motorbike Sim 'Elasto Mania' Returns As A Remaster Next Week

Late

Funny how half of the people in the comments are ones who've played it and are saying it's great, yet the other half is dismissing it and calling it bad. If you go and Google it, Google shows 96% liked it and Steam has 144 user reviews, all positive. I understand it looks ugly but it's fun. Though I can't really compare it to modern takes on the same formula. I have Trials Rising but I'm yet to try it.

Re: Review: SNK VS. Capcom: Card Fighters' Clash - An Utterly Essential Card-Battler

Late

First time playing. I started with the SNK version and collected the first 5 coins. Instead of grinding for cards, I decided to start another save file on Capcom side and already collected the first coin with unmodified starter deck in the third match of the whole game. SNK started deck had more synergy but the Capcom deck has some strong cards from the start, like Sakura. The AI makes some questionable decisions at times but overall it's challenging enough.

It's a lot like Pokémon Trading Card Game for GBC, except not. And by that I mean, the card game itself plays nothing like PTCG but the progression, overworld style and menus are going to feel very familiar.

Re: Random: These Pokémon Sword & Shield Game Boy Color Animations Look Amazing

Late

@Poodlestargenerica No. There are too many sprites on a single row which would result in flickering, the character profile art doesn't follow the 8x8 tile grid and/or uses too many palettes, and the text doesn't follow the grid either. You could use background tiles for most of the character profile but all the tiles with transparency would need to be sprite tiles.

Re: Out Now: SNK VS. Capcom: Card Fighters' Clash Is Dealing Now On The eShop

Late

Played for an hour or so. It's great. I'm also happy that the SNK starter deck had the Ikari team from the get go. Leona is my favorite KoF character and she ended up being the first character I put on field. I wish I could play online matches with my friend. We used to play Fire Emblem Cipher a lot and we've been playing KoF recently so this would be the next logical step.

Re: Out Now: SNK VS. Capcom: Card Fighters' Clash Is Dealing Now On The eShop

Late

That's a nice surprise. I haven't played it before but I've been waiting for it ever since they dropped SNK vs. Capcom: The Match of the Millennium. I hope we get the second one eventually as well.

I've been playing lot of SNK games recently. The main course being KoF 2002 UM with my friend every weekend. Really excited for KoF XV which comes out next month.

Re: Picross S7 Is Out, Now With Stylus Support And A Big Picross Sale

Late

Glad they finally added touch support but (3)DS is still the best console for Picross and I still have couple of e games to finish so I'm in no hurry to pick this one up. Most likely never will. Although I was never intending to buy the rest of the e games before they halved the price, so we'll see.

I've completed 4 Picross games this year with total play time of 90 hours. 2/3 of that time was spent on Picross 3D: Round 2 while the rest is split between e4, e5 and e6. I've also designed bunch of puzzles throughout the year. I was also programming a solver AI but I got distracted and left it in a buggy state. I need to get back to it. I was quite happy with how it was turning out.

Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA MegaMix
Haven't played this for a good while. I still had some songs on Hard I'd not even tried yet so I played them and now I'm replaying all songs on Normal and Hard before moving onto Extreme.

Detective Pikachu
Playing in Japanese. Finished the first case without any trouble. There are some things I don't quite understand but I'm still very much comfortable playing it in language I've only been studying for less than 2 years.

I was thinking about just playing it normally in English but when I saw the option for either hiragana only or with kanji, I had to try it out. I'm playing with kanji since that's been my focus the whole time. I've still only dabbled in grammar so that's why some of the finer details escape me. I kind of set a goal for myself earlier this year to finish a game in Japanese by the end of the year. I don't know if I'll be able to finish by then but this seems like a perfect candidate for it.

Mega Man 6
I finished couple of other NES Mega Man games last month so now it's time for 6, the last NES Mega Man game I'm yet to beat. 4 robot masters down.
