Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl #74 - Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective

Late

@Radbot42 My point still stands. I don't think this game needs a sequel, connected or not.

They can't use the same twists anymore. If someone turns to a ghost again, they must explain it in some way. We know the reason beforehand. It has to be connected to the meteorite. Is there another meteorite or is the story set near the same park? Maybe it even happens at the same time as the original story?

Ghost Trick revolved around the mystery of Sissel's death and what caused these strange things to happen in the first place. That mystery is now gone. We know everything we need to know. They have to come up with a new mystery while keeping the old explanation around for gameplay's sake because the game is all about those ghost tricks.

I'm not opposed to a sequel but I don't think it needs one.

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl #74 - Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective

I don't like the one we got in Europe. I voted for Japanese box art. I like the key art. It's very bizarre without context and I doubt it would sell copies if it weren't for the award and mention that it's from Ace Attorney developers.

@Radbot42 Some games don't need sequels. I think this is one of them.

Re: Talking Point: Are You A Player Or Collector?

Late

I do buy games at faster pace than what I can play them. That's for sure. But I only buy games I want to play. I may not play the game right away but I will get to it eventually. At least that's what I'm still telling myself and I think it still holds mostly true.

My friend recently asked me how many games I have that I haven't even touched. I counted my DS & 3DS games as I thought they'd be most interesting to know. I have ~60 DS games, 5 of which I have not played at all. Those five games are new acquisitions though. I'll get to them soon.

For 3DS I counted everything I have either on cartridge or digitally, including VC and DSiWare. The totals were:
Not played: 30, Unfinished: 80, Beaten: 66, Completed: 53, Played (no victory conditions): 15
The "not played" category is much bigger here but there's a good reason (or excuse).

5 are Picross games I got couple of weeks ago when they were 50% off. They are there when I need my Picross fix. I already completed e3 in less than a week.

9 are Atlus RPGs that I've been buying for less than 10€ each in the last year or so why they are still holding eShop sales and they are easily available. There are also 6 additional RPGs I haven't gotten to yet, mostly because they are RPGs and require lot of time.

12 are sequels to games that I haven't finished yet. There's some overlap with RPGs here.

The rest are games I've bought in the last 2 years that I just haven't gotten to yet. Most of which are relatively short. Including Detective Pikachu, Dillon's Rolling Western and Fairune 2.

So I think I'm still doing pretty good job all things considered. At least when it comes to DS/3DS library. My current Switch library looks similar to 3DS, maybe a bit worse. The amount of great releases is so huge that I can't keep up at all. I pick those games up when they are at least -50% off. Memory card capacity also makes me think twice before committing. My 400GB card has been full for a while.

Re: Nintendo Appears To Be Pulling DSiWare Games From The 3DS eShop

Late

Luckily the ones I remember wanting are still on European eShop. Grabbing them while I can. Noticed couple of games missing that I already have though. Namely AlphaBounce which I ended up not liking that much and Picdun which I really enjoyed. At least the sequel is still available since it's a 3DS downloadable.

Re: Nintendo Kicks Off Huge Festive Sale, Over 900 Switch Games Discounted (Europe)

Late

Taiko finally dropped below 30€ in Europe. I've often seen it in US eShop for $20 but it's never been as low in Europe. Now it's only 15€. I'll pick it up now even though I have two other rhythm games I'm playing.

Also saw Horace for 1€. I remember it getting a 10/10 from NL so it should be worth it even if I don't end up liking it quite as much as the reviewer.

Also for those still interested in 3DS games and RPGs, Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology, Etrian Odyssey Nexus, Persona Q2 and SMT: Strange Journey Redux are all super cheap. I already own PQ2 but I'll gladly take the other 3 for 7.50€ each.

Re: Sakurai's Smash Bros. Sephiroth Broadcast Will Run For About 35 Minutes

Late

Mainly interested in the song selection and Mii costumes. I don't buy costumes unless they have music but they are always fun to see. And I hope they have costumes from multiple Square Enix franchises. Would love to see Bravely Default or TWEWY costumed.

Some part of me also wants to see the world burn. I want to see the reaction when Sora or Geno gets revealed as a costume. I'd really like if Sora were playable but this is the next best thing.

Re: Spelunky 1 And 2 Are Both Coming To Nintendo Switch

Late

@Abeedo First one for sure. It's not as brutally difficult and it explains the mechanics better. I also like its random map generation more. The rooms feel more fair. The sequel seems to be for those who have done all the first game has to offer and yearn for more.

Re: Imagine Among Us As A Visual Novel JRPG, And You've Got Gnosia

Late

My initial thoughts when I saw the trailer were that it looks really ugly, I don't like the art style at all, and the idea is great on paper but few games have succeeded in what it's trying to achieve.

But apparently it got 10/10 from IGN Japan. That certainly gives me hope that the time loop thing works and the game stays fresh and interesting even after a while. I'll keep an eye on it.

EDIT: @Ralizah Funny how you have the exact same worry when it comes to the gameplay loop but are the exact opposite when it comes to the look of the game.

Re: Random: Disgruntled Fans Spam Nintendo Tweet In Response To YouTube Soundtrack Takedowns

Late

I wish Nintendo had their music readily available in one form or another. I'd prefer Spotify but just having CD releases outside of Japan would be fine too. I buy my favorite OSTs from Japan but it would be too expensive to try get everything I want with all the added expenses from ordering outside of my country. Plus they have a huge catalog of older games that never had physical soundtracks or if they did, they are hard to obtain.

Last two I got were TMS#FE and XC2 soundtracks. I already had the vocal collection CD that came with Wii U's TMS special edition but it's really lacking. Had to upgrade.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (December 12th)

Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory
Currently on Dream Drop Distance levels. This game makes me want to play other Kingdom Hearts games. I have discovered I have nostalgia for 358/2 Days. I still look back on that game fondly even though it was tedious at times.

Last Window: The Secret of Cape West
December 26. Last time I said the game had had slow pace so far but I had the feeling it was going to get more interesting soon. I was right. The puzzle pieces are starting to fit together.

Etrian Odyssey IV: Legends of the Titan
Exploring the second main dungeon. On the first floor. Got invited to a town but haven't made it there yet.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (December 5th)

Late

Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory
Got this 33% from a Black Friday deal. I wasn't going to pay full 60€ but I was willing to pay 40€ this close to the release. I've played it once so far. I wanted to start with The 13th Struggle but turned out you have to unlock every song and the story goes in the game release order so I ended up ending my session with that song instead.

It's fun. I saw lot of skepticism before the launch but to me it doesn't feel that different from Theatrhythm. I like that there are additional missions in each song in story mode. Gives something extra to do once I've played through the story. I'm currently playing on Standard so I get most missions done simply by playing the song once. I could play on Proud but I like to play rhythm games on default difficulty first so I have more of a reason to play the same songs again.

Last Window: The Secret of Cape West
December 23rd. The game has had quite a slow pace but I don't mind it. Hotel Dusk was similar in that sense. It started out slow so you have time to befriend all the characters. Then it ramped up for the end.

Etrian Odyssey IV: Legends of the Titan
I played through EOU earlier this year and thoroughly enjoyed it. It was my first experience with EO outside of demos. I wanted to start another EO right away but was afraid I'd get burned out. Plus I have plenty of other games I want to play. I finished my second run of Three Houses so I decided it was time to get back into EO. I had plenty to choose from. I have most 3DS games, only missing V, but decided to go with IV.

I've now finished the first main dungeon and I'm about to enter a new area with my airship. I'm bit unsure how I feel about the game. It's very similar to EOU gameplaywise but so far I prefer the main cast in Untold over my custom party in IV. I guess I'm just not that into character creation in general. I don't even remember the names I gave them. On the other hand, I wish I had more options to choose from. The amount of different classes is quite small and most of them are similar to classes in Untold.

I also miss floor jump from Untold. There are plenty of items to get you out of dungeons but no fast ways to jump back into action other than opening up shortcuts. But you still have to traverse same paths multiple times as you go in and out.

Re: Square Enix Announces NEO: The World Ends With You, A Sequel To The DS Original

Late

So zetta slow! They did great job keeping the same art style while switching from 2D to 3D. Excited to see how it turns out. I hope we get some music samples along the way.

I beat the original back in the day but never touched the extra day or the extra content in the Switch version. Should I? My original intent was to 100% earlier days before I moved onto the final day but I ended up doing about half before dropping the game altogether. Then way later I started a new game so I don't have an easy way to access the extra content now.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (November 21st)

Late

@SlowPokemon I haven't heard much talk about the sequel either. According to my 3DS's activity log, I got Hotel Dusk in 2016. A good while after they'd already stopped selling new copies. Hotel Dusk was easy enough to obtain but Last Window was different. No one here was selling it. I knew I could get it from eBay but I never got around to it. Now I came across a used copy on a Finnish website so I decided it was finally time to grab it.

I haven't paid much attention to the localization. And since English isn't my first language, I doubt I'll notice anything. It's been so long since I played Hotel Dusk that I don't have anything to compare it with either.

There isn't really a good place to discuss about the game since I doubt a new thread would gain much attention but I'll share my thoughts in the Games You Recently Beat thread once I've finished it. I can tag you there once I do so you get a notification. If you want, that is.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (November 21st)

Late

@txa1265 Nice! It's a great game. I hope you have fun.

I bought it at launch and started with Golden Deer. I'm now on my second playthrough which I started near the game's one year anniversary. The first half went quite fast but I've slowed down since. Battles on Maddening mode take so much more time and I don't want to burn myself out.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (November 21st)

Late

My focus will be on these two but I may play some other games as well.

Fire Emblem: Three Houses
Black Eagle Route. Had a two week break from the game while my sister was visiting but now I'm back at it. Just finished the second to last battle. Went quite smoothly. I wonder how I'll do in the final battle.

Last Window: The Secret of Cape West - Finally got around to buying this game. Played Hotel Dusk years ago and loved it. This game continues the story. So far it looks and plays exactly the same and that's a good thing.

Re: Talking Point: Cloud Gaming On Switch – The Pros And Cons Of The Cloud

Late

I don't mind having the option. That said, I don't see myself spending money on these cloud versions. If it were a service with multiple games then I could see myself at least giving it a go but the way it is now, absolutely not. I'd rather spend the money to buy a console/PC that can run those games natively.

I tried the demo to see how it performs with my connection. It was about what I expected. The only internet access I have is through my phone because I don't have a need for anything else. Speedtest gives me 28ms ping, 50 up and 50 down on my laptop. The cutscenes ran mostly without hiccups but the gameplay wasn't smooth enough. Location also plays a big part and I doubt they have any servers nearby.

Re: Bravely Default II Hits Nintendo Switch In February 2021

Late

Wasn't expecting it for this year the moment I played the demo.

I just watched the feedback and it seems they've changed things for the better. They said going in that the demo is more difficult than the final release. Not surprised that they still got lot of feedback about it being too difficult. They probably had the difficulty options already implemented but it was nice of them to address it. I hope they still have sliders for enemy encounters, exp gain, etc. from the first two games too.

Re: A New Drawn To Life Game Has Been Rated For The Nintendo Switch

Late

I've only played bit of the first game. I liked the idea more than the game. Scribblenauts always had the same problem. They give you lot of tools and different ways to solve the problem but you always go for the same ones that work for everything.

It also seems like they recycled Scribblenauts Unlimited's logo.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (October 24th)

Fire Emblem: Three Houses - Black Eagles. Just finished the battle where you need to defend the monastery after time skip. Making slow progress.

Maddening wasn't all that bad before time skip but now it's actually quite maddening. This story battle wasn't actually that difficult but the paralogues I finished before it were just awful. I'll go back to Hard next time even though that is bit too easy.

SAMURAI SHODOWN NEOGEO COLLECTION - Got my collector's edition earlier this week. Playing each game's arcade modes for now and then I'll wait until I have other people to play with before I touch it again.

Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon
Finished the second part of the story this morning. The Mega Man 2 reference at the end was funny. I should've gotten this game earlier. It's really good. I actually like it more than Castlevania 1-4.

Toki Tori - Finished the game earlier this week. Going through hard levels now.

Super Mario Sunshine (All-Stars) - Done with 64 so now it's time to play Sunshine. Not sure how far I'll go when it comes to completion. I want to at least beat the game since I've not done that before. I've played it before and got to Corona Mountain but stopped there. Everyone says going for the blue coins is not worth it but maybe I'll at least get all the shine sprites.

Re: Square Enix Will Share More Information About Bravely Default II Soon

Late

@Alex90 As I said in reply #26, I'd forgotten since I never used the feature.

And if it's like in the previous games where you need to play most of the game before you can do that and the voice overs still refer to the character by their original name, then I don't think it's what the person who asked about the name change is after either.

Re: Several Splatoon amiibo Have Been Restocked At The Nintendo UK Store

Late

I was just looking at my amiibo collection couple of weeks ago. I dropped off pretty fast. I only have Smash and Splatoon amiibo + couple others that came with special editions. I was wondering if I could still get Pearl and Marina since those are ones I'd actually like to own. I already have the other duo. I looked into it and the answer was pretty much no unless I'd pay a premium price on eBay. So this is a nice surprise.

Now, there are just two problems:
1. Nintendo has disgusting shipping costs.
2. I just finished writing an email to Nintendo because my Splatfest shirt didn't arrive and got sent back to them. I'm pretty sure it wasn't their fault. The delivery company claims they didn't have an address, only the postal code but they also sent it back before it had even been stored for the minimum time they state on their website so I don't know how much I can trust them.

Re: Random: eBay User Makes Small Fortune Selling Old Pokémon Game Boxes And Manuals In 'Good' Condition

Late

I agree that this is probably someone who didn't read beforehand. No way anyone would pay that much just for the boxes and manuals when the lot isn't worth that much money even with the game cartridges included. There were multiple bidders ready to pay the premium even though the title clearly states "Games not included" and the description has the same phrase twice.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (September 19th)

Fire Emblem: Three Houses
Black Eagles - Part 2 - First full month. Trying to get units ready for master classes. Hitting the level cap soon but missing skill points.

Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc
Finished the game last week. Started school mode yesterday.

Toki Tori
Finished Hana Samurai so I moved onto something different. Continuing from where I left off years ago.

Super Mario Bros. 2
I've never actually beaten SMB2 so I thought I'd try to do it this time. My favorite memory of this game is when I found the warp in 1-3 that takes you to world 4 by accident when I was young. I used to skip worlds 2 and 3 completely because of that so this time I'm doing all levels.

I would also be playing 3D All-Stars but my copy didn't arrive yet.

Re: Fire Emblem: Mystery Of The Emblem Joins Japan's Switch Online Service This Month

Late

Great. I was hoping other FE games would end up on NES & SNES Online eventually. Would still like localized versions but these will do for now. I've been self-studying Japanese since February. My focus has been on reading since that's the skill set I'll be using the most. I think I'll play the first chapter or so and see how much I can understand and then decide if I'll continue or wait a bit before trying again. I can read most of the text in the screenshots above so that's a good sign.

Re: Nintendo Shares Mario’s Super Picross Tutorial As The Game Arrives On Switch

Late

Already completed it on Wii U so I won't be playing it again but it's still a good addition to SNES Online. An easy way for people to try out Picross. I didn't enjoy it quite as much as other Picross games (original Mario's Picross is still my favorite) but I think it's only because I was stuck playing it on TV. Picross is better suited for handhelds.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (September 12th)

Late

Fire Emblem: Three Houses
Just encountered the main choice in Black Eagles route. Chose the more interesting option. Quite interesting to see how the chapter differed from my first playthrough with Golden Deer.

Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc
The final trial is about to begin. Time to see how the game ends.

Hana (/Sakura) Samurai: Art Of The Sword
I was interested in this game back when it came out but it took me a while to get it. Bought it earlier this year and started playing on Thursday. I believe I'm about half way through already. The enemies are getting more complex. I hate the spear guys who attack multiple times.

Re: Poll: How Do You Feel About 'Limited-Time' Games From Nintendo?

Late

I'm fine with limited physical release. Makes it a bit more special. And so far it seems like it's not all that limited either. If you really want your physical copy, you can. I already ordered mine.

What I don't understand is the limited download version. I hope they at least provide each game individually later down the line.

It's an effective tactic to say the least as can be seen from the poll results.
