Update [Thu 29th Sep, 2022 17:15]: Pretty much a week to the hour later, Ed Sheeran has dropped the music video for his Pokémon collaboration song 'Celestial'.
What's more interesting, however, is that The Pokémon Company states that the song "will be featured in Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet!" We're thinking it's either an opening theme or the end credits song, but hey, maybe Ed Sheeran is a resident of Paldea? Who knows. We're worried about Eevee in the video though — its face looks a little different.

The video was inspired by Sheeran's fascination with the Pocket Monsters, and features some of his favourite Pokémon. The sketches in the video were done by artist Yu Nagaba.
Sheeran had this to say about the collaboration, along with his love of Pokémon, in a press release from The Pokémon Company:
"I've played Pokémon since I was in primary school... Me and my brother used to have different versions of the games and would trade Pokémon together until we each completed our Pokédex. I loved the cards but the games are what I lost myself in. I loved the whole world they created; it kept me distracted if there was negative stuff happening in my life/school that I wanted to avoid. It was a world I could escape into and I've played it ever since.
Even though I'm 31 now, I still own the same Game Boy Color and play Pokémon Yellow or Silver on planes and trains when I'm on tour. It's such an honour to add a song into a Pokémon game and shoot a nostalgic video too. I hope you guys enjoy the song and video - it was a blast to film!"
You can watch the music video — which we think kids and Pokémon fans will love — above!
Original article [Thu 22nd Sep, 2022 17:15 BST]: The hugely popular singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran has announced that he will be collaborating with Pokémon on a new song called 'Celestial', releasing very soon on September 29th.
The song marks another partnership between Sheeran and The Pokémon Company, who joined forces last year on Pokémon GO to perform a very special in-game concert.
It's not known exactly what the song will entail at this time, but the title perhaps suggests some references to legendary Pokémon, maybe Mew or Celebi. If you've got any thoughts or ideas on what it could all be about, be sure to let us know! Sheeran posted a brief snippet of the song on his YouTube channel earlier this week, though it doesn't shed a great deal of light.
Ed Sheeran is well known for his affection for the Pokémon franchise, having previously expressed his love for Pokémon Black with a rather straightforward tweet over a decade ago:
We'll be sure to keep an eye out for Celestial's release on September 29th!

I don't know who Ned Shirton is, but that Pikachu don't look right.
@its_luke_c Pikachu giving the ol' "Whatchu talkin' 'bout Willis?" look.
Ol' Eddy boy is missing the Pokémon release date by a month and a bit, but my thoughts and response as always to his stuff is "okay".
I'm not the biggest Ed Sheeran fan but he's absolutely right that Pokemon black for the DS is wicked.
I am curious how the song will be. Please do not forget to make a news when the song releases.
I can't stand Ed Sheeran, so no thanks.
Is this the red head that British people hate for some reason? I thought he was funny in that Beatles alternate reality movie.
Poor Pikachu! Has mumps. ☹️
@Thief Why?
We keep this love in a photograph from Pokemon Snap… (iykyk)
🎵 My pretty little GAAAALVAAANTULA! 🎵
@octokid so you can keep it inside the Pokédex of your ripped jeans?
I might be getting old and out of touch, but I still don't know a single Ed Sheeran song.
But Pokémon Black on the DS is an incredible game.
PresUSA already rendered any future celebrity pokemon song irrelevant...

This guy that looks like a guest on Have A Seat with Chris Hanson marketing himself directly to children.
Like that mumble rapper that had his own Happy Meal and hijacked Reese's Puffs cereal boxes for a while.
Creepers all around.
My favourite Ed Sheeran song is the one about Smaug, the Chiefest and greatest of Calamities

Ed Sheeran was the reason recently that sunglasses Squirtle made a return in Pokemon Go. His collabs with Pokemon are weird but they bring good results
I suggest everyone listen to Black Midi’s diss track about Ed Sheeran, titled Ded Sheeran.
While I can't stand his music, his taste in Pokemon games is pretty good.
By "In game concert" of course you mean, if you opened the game and navigated to the news section you could find a link which sends you to a webpage with a private YouTube video imbedded in it. You could watch the video as an overlay when you return to the game (or any other app for that matter) but you'd be better off watching it fullscreen and the overlay would get in the way of gameplay no matter where you leave it.
Great idea, less than optimal implementation and communication.
I know this dude from a few of those AI image generation prompt memes that made the rounds a few months ago. That's legit how I learned of his existence, apparently he's a popular musician??
Why? Ed Sheeran already has a Pokemon.

As one pandemic ends, another begins.
Hi Instagram post gave more insight into his first game being blue then yellow, then his fav game being Silver and still playing it on tour, which resonates with me HARD - that is my childhood too <3
Pretty fun music video. I enjoyed it.
I hate ed sheeran's music with every fibre of my being but this music video's fun
Dang! That was good! The ending with the callback to Pokemon the first movie was really awesome! Vibing with the song too
It's an okay song. The animation in the last minute or so carries the video. Absolutely lovely.
The video is fun though the Pokémon look bit weird with that wrinkle on their forehead. The song ain't bad either though not something I'd listen to.
I know Ed Sheeran is popular and his songs play quite often on the radio but I wouldn't be able to name any of them. The songs are quite forgettable and blend in with other similar songs.
Why did they give all the Pokémon a unibrow/forehead wrinkle?
Never thought that Ed Sheeran and Toby Fox would be on the same OST, but here we are.
Also, can't wait for Ed to be a Gym Leader with a concert before your battle with him but there still isn't voice acting (cough cough PIERS cough cough)
The song is okay but I do not really like the lyrics. Sounds like he is trapped in a deathloop or something like that. One of those emotional, slightly depressing songs with a little bit of it is alright.
No thanks.
The animation at the very end was amazing?!? That was so unexpected!! It's actually a pretty decent song too! Leave it to Ed Sheehan to whip up a solid pop song. This is definitely the best artist collab with Pokemon so far.
Ed Sheeran always felt like soccer mom music to me.
OKish song but that's one of the best music videos I've seen 🥰 Cute, well animated, stellar effects, just great. Enjoyed it and gosh would my kids be proud if I'd been in that video instead of Ed ;D
ed sheeran more like tedd…iursa shie…ldon hahaha
Nope, I'll gladly downvote it though. Can't stand that whiny prat.
But Gen 5 was dope.
I'm actually a very big fan of Ed Sheeran's music personally (which seems to be an unpopular opinion judging by the majority of comments here) and this song's pretty good as well.
The fact that it's going to be in Scarlet & Violet is extremely weird though. We're in a timeline where both Toby Fox and Ed Sheeran will be under the music credits of a Pokemon game and that alone is utterly bonkers.
I love this song actually, and the clip is very well done too. Sounds quite succesful to me!
not a terrible song at least
The song itself isn't really my thing but I love the video. I love how the artstyle shifts. The pikachu drawing for the sleeve kinda reminds me of pokemon smile though.
I like Ed sheeran's music, so I also like this song. It doesn't really feel "Pokémon" though, except for the animations.
I don't think I've ever heard a Sheeran song that reached the level of listenable, but it's not like having the song show up probably in the credits is going to ruin the game or anything.
@Savage_Joe I can think of one reason. His music is cack
Jeez with the amount of hate comments you’d expect him to be the new Justin Bieber.
His song shape of you genuinely slaps though.
song and video are pretty good actually
I was skeptical at first considering how little the songs from a couple years ago tied into Pokémon, but this was a pretty solid tribute. I especially enjoyed the tribute to the first movie.
I don't harbour any strong feelings for or against Sheeran, but I hate the precedent that this sets by including singers (or media personalities generally) within the Pokémon games themselves. One of the things that I think allows the brand to resonate with countless fans is the fact that it has remained mostly free of pop culture intervention and political/ideological pandering, at least within the core product base, especially as such personalities may not necessarily be setting a good example for a young-skewing audience.
Again, no hard feelings against Sheeran. He seems like a decent enough guy, but future picks may not be quite so.
"Check Out Ed Sheeran's Pokémon Scarlet And Violet Song 'Celestial'"
.... No. 😑
This looks and sounds much better than I expected!
Those are a loooooooooooooot of Dittos!
I can't believe Mew and Mewtwo killed Ed Sheeran literally shaking and crying rn
Amazing song! The tribute to the first movie was so dope!!
