The Pokémon Company has unveiled a new trailer for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet as part of its Pokémon Presents broadcast earlier today.
The trailer itself unveils the name of the brand new region you'll be exploring: Paldea. In addition, we get a good look at some of the traversal mechanics via the Legendary Pokémon and a glimpse at the new 'Treasure Hunt' narrative feature. This introduces what looks like the game's main 'hook': a mechanic called 'Terestal Phenomenon', which basically makes your Pokémon buddies go all shiny and crystalised.
There's plenty more information from the broadcast which we'll dive into a bit deeper in separate pieces, so for now, enjoy the new trailer and pick up a pre-order if you're interested!

This is basically Sword and Shield all over again. After Xenoblade Chronicles 3, Gamefreak has no excuse for poor quality graphics and animations...
@MrPKOmega Can you elaborate on what you found particularly disappointing?
I want to put Fidough in an oven and eat him.
I saw a moment in the trailer where a pachirisu had some frame rate drops and immediately I knew that people are gonna focus on that one part and use it to “prove” that game freak are “incompetent” and that they should delay it because that’s what I hear about the pokemon fan base nowadays. 😑
This game looks AMAZING!! I can't wait!!
I was starting to get a bit more interested again. And then they showed off Terestal Pokémon.
I'll pass. :/
It might be okay but mostly just seems like same old, same old. After Sword and Shield killed my interest in the main series, it's probably going to take a bit more to get me back on-board now so I'm still leaning towards skipping it at this stage.
I hope everybody now finally understands the game is fully open-world! A lot of people are really slow-witted 😅😅
But the fact that you have essentially three different campaigns is EXACTLY what I imagined for Pokemon!!! This is SO perfect!
Thus game has a very high chance of being the best Pokémon game EVER!
I am so damn excited. The character designs are great, the new Pokemon are muah and the gameplay looks incredibly interesting and fun. I was going to get it anyway but damn I'm even more excited now!
Oh and how could I forget about PALDEAN WOOPER AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!
Looks better than I expected it to be. I am still concerned about the world though. Hope it will not just be some open fields to explore and actually have many points of interest and secrets to discover.
Am not the biggest fan of the crystal Pokémon yet. Would like that they actually stay with a certain gimmick that they flesh out in the upcoming games instead of a new one each time.
Koraidon as vehicle looked awkward, but Miraidon as vehicle just Wheeee...!
Looks like a good mixture of Arceus and a traditional game. Looks like they changed the legendary Pokémon format as well. Good so far
@Greatluigi I'm honestly not sure Pokemon fans actually like Pokemon anymore. They still act like Sword and Shield ruined their lives.
The Terastallized Pokémon honestly, they look like Swarovski crystal figurines.
That's, honestly pretty tacky.
It's so painfull to see how this beautifull franchise is drowning in it's own succes.
I LOVED EVERYTHING THEY SHOWED HERE!!!!!!!
Idk how I feel about the new gimmick, it just looks eh. Other then that the game looks great!

Violet's flight animation is so god awful. They could have done so much better

It looks good. No issues with the new gimmick until I know more about it.
I'm glad PLA happened, since I'd be much more weary of this game if my last go with the series had been Pokemon Shield.
This has to be one worst trailers I seen in a while.
@RupeeClock the new gimmick is dumb. Care zero about it, I hope the game doesn't expect me to use it to be able to win.
Jackpot! This trailer was perfect! Everything I wanted! But it still gets 9/10 because there were only two new pokemon revealed. I was hoping to see more then that.
Looks solid overall. Still waiting to see a bit more about the progression, though. Open worlds always run the risk of becoming a bit too directionless for my taste.
Nothing shown was particularly enticing. The claim of tackling gyms in any order sounds nice on paper, but a little clarification would be nice. How will this be achieved? Level scaling?
The core gameplay remains the same with no improvements, and the flavor of the week is crystal mons. Yay...?
I had higher hopes for this than I did Sword and Shield, but Game Freak again has disappointed me.
ALREADY BETTER THAN SWORD & SHIELD!
HYPE!
@Browny have you missed the words OPEN WORLD?
What bigger revolution could one expect?
I find the motorbike pokemon really really dumb, like dueling a card game on motorbikes-dumb, and I'm not too thrilled for the new "not mega evolution" gimmick.
With all this negativity said, I still think it will be a very enjoyable game that I will enjoy to play, right after I get too tired of rolling my eyes every time I see the motorbike pokemon
@ArceusSupremacy These gimmicks are generally shoved down the player's throat even if they don't want it. Even if you don't want to use it yourself, opponents will, so you're forced to deal with it.
So, yeah. Pass.
I'll play it, since I love pokemon, but they really struglle to find a gimmick as nice as the megas..

@ArceusSupremacy So far the open world still looked rather empty. I don't really care about games with open worlds that are just empty fields with nothing to explore. If there are no real points of interest or secrets in then they would just be a waste of time.
Can't wait to blow this off for three months, get caught up in the hype machine a few days before release, impulse purchase it, play it, and then think "that was okay".
My own personal Pokemon cycle, if you will.
Removed - flaming/arguing; user is banned
@MajorTom the world is much fuller than BOTWs Hyrule, as you can see on the map.
And you can never know what a open world offers until you play it, it makes no sense to say it won't have secrets at this point, there's no way you could know that.

@ArceusSupremacy
An open world was already attempted with mixed success in Sword & Shield. At best they can improve that with this entry, but what good is a big open field when the core mechanics of the series haven't been updated in any meaningful way?
FINALLY they gave us the goods on this game! This was the reveal we've been waiting for and lifted the lid on various aspects of the gameplay that we sorely needed. Here are my thoughts on various subjects:
-Region is confirmed to be Paldea region. Finally that's out of the way. Region map looks really vast and varied, should be fun to explore in the open world.
-Terastal looks okay, seems like it's a step up from Dynamax by having type changes. Somehow feels worse than Megas and I can't quite put my finger on why.
-So Max Raids are back as Tera Raids, but this time it seems to be ATB based? Great, should be a nice change of pace, both literally and figuratively.
-The school thing is confirmed, as is the three routes.
-Gyms are in any order, but no level scaling. That almost defeats the purpose since it severely limits what order you can challenge them.
-Intriguing that they call the three routes a "treasure hunt". So what else are we "hunting" for? I'm guessing at least one of the other two is related to Terastal.
-Paldean forms confirmed with Paldean Wooper
Games are looking pretty great. Not perfect, but great, a lot of interesting mechanics and improvements in various areas.
@ArceusSupremacy I understand them plenty. I've been playing these games since the very first ones and I enjoyed my pokemon when they didn't suddenly get super powerful through the power of friendship or whatever.
I just wanted to make my comment though, no need to feel bad for me as I have other games to play that actually do manage to hold my interest. Let's just leave it at that.
Pokémon Roster Update 2022.

@ArceusSupremacy In the trailers so far including this one it mainly showed open fields with some pokémon walking around. If we look at the last few pokémon games I doubt the world will be that fun to explore.
i love Pokemon and still have many past (and recent) games to enjoy.... This game does nothing for me so far, kind of sadly.
@ArceusSupremacy The most amazing pokemon game already exists. It's called Pokemon Black and Pokemon White. I'm good.
@Browny are you seriously comparing the wild area to this? Have you looked at the map of Paldea? It's FULL of cities, it has much core points of interest than BOTW's Hyrule.
An open world is the biggest improvement you could hope for, not updating the core mechanics is a fair complaint, but it still should be the best Pokémon game ever.
I bet everything that anyone who doubts the open world is a huge game changer will change their minds immediately as soon as they play.
If this is anything to go with then I am afraid arceus will be my last for the foreseeable future.
Here's a comment from me from last week:
"I hope Scarlet and Violet don't have their own version of the same thing. All three are pretty similar to each other. Hopping from one mechanic to another makes them feel like gimmicks. I liked Mega Evolutions even though I barely used them. The other two I'm not a fan of. I'd rather take new meaningful battle mechanics worth keeping for future games."
They decided to make another variation yet again. This time the Pokémon don't become bigger, they instead get a nice hat. Can't say I'm surprised. Just a bit disappointed. It comes off as if they don't really know how to improve on the current battle system but they want to have a new system so they have "a new exciting" marketing angle. Then they start building the story around that gimmick.
Other than that, it looks like Pokémon, and I tend to like Pokémon. I wasn't the biggest fan of Sword and Shield due to mostly nonexistent story, lack of things to do and the horrible Wild Area. So far it seems this game is going to fix the issues I had. I also really liked Legends Arceus so I hope it influenced this one a bit too.
I like that you can tackle gyms in any order you want to. I guess each gym has different team composition based on how many gyms badges you've gathered? I'm interested in knowing how they handle other trainers and wild Pokémon. I'd guess some areas are just easier to access in general. Either way, this could lead to even better replayability in a game with already high replay value.

Squee! I'm so excited for Gen 9! I love the Legendaries. The graphics look much better.
@Late yes I don't like the gimmick but I'm indifferent, it shouldn't interfere with the enjoyment of the game.
Removed - inappropriate language
@MajorTom this is a good point... Ooen worlds are no good if tgeir empty... But so far I like what I see
@Yosher
I wanna take ride on Miraidon since it looks like futuristic vehicle Pokemon.
Wheeee..!
@MsJubilee poe's law?
@ArceusSupremacy
Yes, I am comparing the two. What better game or example to compare it to than the previous mainline entry?
But ultimately, a big open field to "explore" (and I use that term VERY loosely), is not a major selling point for me. Exploration only makes sense if there's a goal to said exploration, and sadly the Pokemon formula doesn't lend itself well to said exploration.
Am I knocking the effort? Not at all; I'm glad they're "trying", but they're focusing on the wrong parts. The core mechanics are in dire need of a revamp, a reimagining, something to shake up the way the games are played. As someone else just said, since the inclusion of Mega Evolutions, they've been recycling the same idea with a different coat of paint. But we still have the stale, one v one four move limit archaic gameplay.
Pokemon deserves better, and to be blinded by a desire to play shiny new crystal mons, to me at least, is a disservice to the franchise as a fan since Gen 1. Do better, Game Freak.
@Anti-Matter Lmao yeah I'll admit that did look pretty fun!
@MrPKOmega I think the graphics look really good. Also, this isn't like SwSs. You can dislike it, but your criticisms don't hold water.
@Xiovanni to be fair, we don't know how soon you can unlock it... If I've already explored a large chunk of the map i'd appreciate the chance to go from point A to point b faster
Also legends did this well where ride pokemon was better fkr covering large distances but exploring an area was better on foot.
The game looks okay, but I can't hide my disappointment always thinking "maybe THIS one will feel current gen."
Even if it thankfully doesn't come across as hollow as Sword and Shield, I can't believe we're still not likely to see character voice acting in a 2022 release title, based on the trailer narrator.
I keep thinking maybe there could have been a pivot to a heavily stylized art direction (like Bravely Default) and then honestly most of the polishing complaints might not have mattered as much, but I think the 3D graphics combined with Pokémon accepted tropes of limited animations given to characters (especially the trainers, they just look like dolls to me at this point) makes it ironically less immersive the more advanced the generations get.
@Browny To you, but don't try to act like you speak for everyone.
Oh, btw.
I'm open with the new gimmick and gameplay concept as long the game is playable.
Some users here just cannot open with new ideas.
@Dilly-Mick The cities and other stuff look pretty good. I may give it a try if more information about the regular open world is known. I hope the series will become near most other recent RPGs in quality. Right now I will just wait.
@michellelynn0976
Please point out where I was "speaking for everyone". All my points are generalized or reflective of my thoughts and gripes with the game and series at large.
Rather than a one sentence non-reply, offer some counterpoints or add something meaningful to the conversation. There's plenty to discuss regarding the short-comings of the Pokemon series as a whole.
@Yosher To be fair, that's every game. Now, each player can like or dislike the new features.
@Browny
I'm open with new idea of Pokemon games as long the game is playable.
Well this comments section ended up how I thought it would haha. Somebody has an opinion, others don't like said opinion. The new pokemon are all cute except for that titan one, that one looks like it's been fighting for its life.
Flying motorbike Pokemon? I shouldn't like them but I do. 😂
@Slinkoy1 That is how it goes. People like to complain. Lol
I'm still slightly concerned about what they didn't show but there is a lot more to this game than I originally thought. I was on the fence but now I'm excited.
One user was banned for having intense argument with other user.
Please think first before making comments or feedback.
The argument of Pokemon games is easily to separate peoples for having their entitled opinions.
@Greatluigi I saw it too and honestly, I didn't think much of it as I was pretty impressed with everything else I saw. I'm genuinely excited about the idea of being able to do the gyms in any order you choose and for the multiple stories. The multiplayer aspect is also intriguing as well
@UmbreonsPapa I know! Getting HYPED. also the new game is coming out in November which is the month I was born! 😁
Fidough is cute. :3 wish they'd shown off a few more new ones and the starters second evolutionary forms. I have no strong opinion on the region name. I expect the legendaries are gonna be more like the ride Pokemon of sun/moon but who knows?
@Slinkoy1
Here is the thing.
There are two different kind of Pokemon gamers: the status quo and the open minded.
The status quo oriented keep wanting the old school style all the time, refuse to embrace new things.
The open minded oriented will accept the new things as long the game is playable.
I don't mind the crystal gimmick, it looks better then the gigantamax thing.
@RupeeClock I think it's cute.
@Browny Remember the reaction when Let's Go changed the mechanics? Do I remember and it wasn't fun. Also, I think the gameplay will change slowly, but surely. The didn't show a lot of the gameplay mechanics, so we don't know if anything will be new or not.
Of course you can like or dislike what you see, but I think you are jumping the gun on the gameplay. You might be right, but let's see until we see how the gameplay actually works.
@Yosher I actually played through the entire story of SWSH and I never felt the need to use dynamax. So I bet that this will be the same. (Yes I beat the story without using dynamax)
@Greatluigi Like I said though even if you don't use it yourself, you'll still battle opponents who will. If you could do without that too then I'd happily give it a go.
i was not overly impressed..
@Bobb
I like the idea of Motorbike Pokemons.
It was like watching the Flintstones vs Jetsons Pokemons when you take a ride on them.
I don't think letting people attack whenever during raid battles is a good idea. Especially among strangers. It's bound to end up in frustration trying to get the timing, and especially if someone makes it faint by accident.
I think the motorcycle mon look dumb.
@michellelynn0976
Hilariously, people who were shocked at the changes in Let's Go probably had good reason to. They actually managed to make the experience worse by cutting out a big part of the gameplay. But that's neither here, nor there.
You say they didn't show a lot, but they showed some combat gameplay. The same one v one four move limit stuff that's been with the series since inception. There is nothing more to "wait and see" that will change the stale formula.
@Browny But, they may add some stuff to the combat. We don't know that, yet. They barely showed how it works. Did you see the menu? How you could pick moves? No. So, it is a bit of jumping the gun.
Well, I liked Let's Go, but I understand the criticism. Who knows how it will turn out. We won't until we see the gameplay in full action.
Literally no one could complain about this!
Looks really good! I am still playing sword and shield but will hopefully get this at launch.
@ArceusSupremacy I just wish they'd use their time on developing actual meaningful mechanics instead of these one and done variations of the same mechanic. You are right, they don't generally interfere with the gameplay too much. Some lenghty animation here and there and possibly some frame drops due to all the special effects but at least they don't make using them a requirement. I'll probably try it once or twice and never touch the mechanic after that.
As I said, the game looks fine otherwise and I'm looking forward to playing it.
@Anti-Matter I think there's some truth to that. But I also think you have this group in the middle, like myself, who are open-minded. But are willing to constructively criticize and call out issues that we think exist or at the very least, could be improved upon.
I think it looks brilliant!
Pokemon fans are truly impossible to please. For everyone who wants something to change, someone else wants that thing to stay the same. Everyone seems to want everything and nothing. Then there are the children the game is targeted at, many of whom aren't leaving comments online... They've got to make decisions one way or another, and I like just about all the ones made here.
I absolutely do not play Pokemon for graphical feats. Pokemon games have been worse than other AAA titles in that area all the way back to Gen 1. Running smoothly is most important. Art style is also important, and, while I still wish they'd do something a little more interesting, I think this style is the best yet in terms of 3D Pokemon. I'm not a fan of chibi, so I'm glad they're not sticking with that in this game.
Can’t wait to do the gyms in backwards order! This looks like it’ll be a lot of fun this winter. With the rumor that Hogwarts Legacy comes in December too, man, I’m not even going to need to rush to enjoy this either. Was worried about overlap. Of course, I’m playing Xenoblade 3, so there’s no guarantee overlap won’t still happen with a game that length…
Yeah, but honestly, this looks really pleasant. Arceus is still my second favorite game of the year (after some deliberation, I do continue to place it above a few other really strong titles this year), and I’m hoping that Scarlet/Violet continue giving the good feelings I got from Arceus!
This presentation did nothing for me. But I've had my falling out with Pokemon a few generations ago, time to go back to Xenoblade Chronicles 3 instead.
Pokémon games on motorcycles!
This game looks great I don’t get the hate for it seems gamefreak really can’t win.
Paldea looks like the best region since Pokémon went 3D. I'm super excited to jump in.
@Outerdragon @westmeadow I KNOW!
They could make a Pokémon game fully open world with a cool new gimmick along with no linearity and people will still hate it because they didn’t make custom animations of all the Pokémon doing all the different moves! (Seriously if they make full animations of Pokémon performing each individual move that would take at least 5 years!)
@michellelynn0976
Respectfully, that is wishful thinking of the highest magnitude.
Come November, you'll have your confirmation that when the Pokemon wants to learn move five, it will be forced to forget one of the previous four.
@MrPKOmega
Yes because Xenoblade 3 doesn't have low resolution textures
@steventonysmith
Xenoblade textures are fine, it's just that the games themselves can run at a low resolution (as low as ~370p in handheld mode for Xenoblade 2 and DE; thankfully, Xenoblade 3 is much better in this regard thanks to its temporal resolution upscaling).
Pokemon games run at good resolutions but have bad textures.
Nervous about the trailer. While some did like it, and others not so much, I always worry about any new game that is this divisive. If the marketing/developers did their job right, there should be a generally positive/optimistic reception this early on. Many games and series seem to do this alright as there generally is not much in the way of discourse within the community.
Not saying If I liked it or not, just noting its not a good thing to have your next next game divide the fanbase as much as Pokemon does (hence worrying).
Very pleased with the trailer. Those motorcycle Pokemon look funny. The world feels much warmer and livelier than Arceus.
Personally I like it when a game stays traditional, but I also like it when they try something new and it works. This seems like a very good try. This Christmas will be great.
@westman98
I have eyes, Xenoblade 3 is filled with no resolutions
@steventonysmith
It's better than Xenoblade 2 and DE tho
I learned my lesson with Sword/Shield. Only stellar reviews all around would convince me to give the franchise another chance.
@westman98
I think Xenoblade tends to push the Switch just a little too hard at points.
Which is fine for the most part. I love seeing developers push the hardware to its breaking point.
Shin Megami Tensei V is my favorite Switch title from a visual standpoint and while it does suffer for it (the performance is generally just one step above appalling) it’s still neat seeing developers push the Switch to its breaking point.
@calbeau
Same here. I came back for the first time since Diamond and Pearl back on the DS for Shield. And I was heavily disappointed.
I never finished it. I’m right at the end of the story. But I can’t bring myself to play it anymore. Haven’t touched the game since January of 2021.
I watched the trailer again and now I am even more excited. I simply can not say enough, how I love it, when a game bursts with liveliness, positivity and energy.
Sprigatitio seems like a great starter Pokemon. Hopefully this game will have races.
@westman98
Sure is just like Scarlet and Violet is an improvement over Sword/Shield and Arceus
@MrPKOmega "People will buy it anyway" is a perfectly reasonable excuse in the world of business
@steventonysmith
Oh, I'm not denying that at all. Scarlet/Violet definitely look better than its predecessors while also being more open.
The world looks cool and the fact it is truly open world is nice. Having three different campaigns is intriguing but im a little concerned about the length and quality of them, pokemon has never been known for their riveting stories. The Tera forms look cool if not gimmicky.
But dang man, the visuals look BAD. whether it's gamefreak being lazy, the switch being underpowered, or both, this game looks muddy as all heck. It likely won't take too much away from the game but I just want a mainline pokemon game that has impressive visuals.
@Anti-Matter I honestly and wholeheartedly, without a hint of irony or sarcasm, hope that you will enjoy these games more than I could ever do.
I understand I'm no longer the target demographic of Pokemon but I still enjoy it's core mechanics. I'm sure I will have fun too
Looks great. Really digging the new Pokemon shown thus far. The new terestal mechanic will be very interesting.
LOL did I just see a jeepney XD?.
COLOR me surprised, I did not expect the Pokemon to become hybrid motorcycles , I honestly don't mind their designs anymore. It fits. Hahahaha. This game looks pretty sweet now. Can't really say I understand the crystal feature yet or why bother with it. But kudos to the rest in the trailer! Looks fun to explore.
The beginning showed voice acting is possible in Pokémon games, yet they are somehow still relunctant for it.
I've seen everything and, they way they presented it... they were just too similar to Sword and Shield's trailers.
New creatures, new characters, region map, separate gameplay glimpses, new gimmick... Honestly the only things different from its equivalent trailer were the legendaries being rides and the open world itself. Have they intentionally kept the actual innovations secret to closer to release, or are they simply non-existant? I hope it's the former.
Speaking of innovations, I really hoped the action mechanics from Legends Arceus would made a return. Action was one of the keys why that game felt superior to all previous 3D Pokemon games, without them you're just playing a walking simulator with Pokémon to interact (that's how the Wild Areas of Sword and Shield felt). Game Freak has been hearing fans opinion on the recent games and they now know how satisfying the catching and battling mechanic were. I hope they eventually make it to the game even if it takes a big update (or anything) for it.
I wish for a better pre-relase period than Legends Arceus. I mean, interviews, demonstrations with commentary, small weekly (or daily) social media updates, maybe even public demos. This is open world Pokémon people, it can't just be another Pokemon games, it shouldn't. I want this entry to be good enough for Game Freak to brag about it (internally of course)!
Once again, the company supported by the world's biggest, most profitable franchise ever keeps making games and acting like they're a poor little indie studio with a budget of table scraps making games with absolutely pathetic production values. I have no idea and will never know why people are okay with all this, and all this is of course entirely my own opinion ...but look at literally any other Nintendo- exclusive studio and the absolute magic they squeeze out of the Switch with franchises a thousand times smaller ...It's just so sad, man ...and I'll probably just end up buying Game Freak's latest garbage down the line anyway like everyone else, so I really should just shut up about it ..."Shut up and consume product, and get excited for next product!"
All in all, I PERSONALLY feel Game Freak is one of the worst game studios ever, and Junichi Masuda is an absolute hack that should've been replaced a long time ago by someone who actually gives a darn about what they're making.
@Browny They're not going to increase the move limit. That would cause balancing issues. Ask any competitive player if there should be more than 4 moves and they'll respond to you with a wholehearted "NO!". Having only 4 moves forces you to make strategic choices as to which moves to keep for your team and provides some limitations to allow stronger Pokemon to have some kind of counter to resist their moves. If you give a Pokemon like say, Garchomp, 5+ moves you can load up on multiple types of moves to steamroll just about everything.
As for 1v1 battles, well they already have alternatives. 1v1 is the main battle system in the story, but in battle facilities and online they have 2v2 and they've experimented with other battling styles. They could stand to mix in a bit more of alternative battling styles, but it's not as if they've never experimented with that.
Meanwhile, they actually have been looking into a pretty major battle mechanic change and that's transitioning from a traditional turn based turn ordering. Legends Arceus had the Strong/Agile Style system and experimented with multiple turns, Masters EX (which is a mobile spinoff but plays very similarly to the traditional battle mechanics) has an ATB system. And now this game is letting you somehow battle at your own pace in Tera Raid Battles instead of being forced to wait for your allies to choose their actions. They seem to want to change this up, but haven't quite settled on exactly how they want to do so and have been experimenting with multiple systems. If they find one that works, they'll implement it (personally I think Masters EX's system works well and they should go with that, but they seem to not want to adopt that one). Keep an eye out for how the Tera Raid battles turn out, if that system works and is well-received, they may extend it to all battles in the next game.
@Bolt_Strike
Well you clearly have no sense of imagination when it comes to alternative takes.
Take inspiration from virtually any other RPG out there, and give Pokemon an energy meter (MP). Or, keep the four move limit, but implement the ability to hot-swap moves when out of battle instead of giving them up entirely. The competitive scene and their gripes are inconsequential to the discussion at hand, as those same hard limits can be maintained for that scene, while shaking things up for the single player campaign.
Never said they didn't experiment, or that it should be changed from one v one to something else. You could keep one v one, but cause a massive shake up to the feel of combat through some kind of innovation or new mechanic. Again, if we were to take the idea of energy (MP), suddenly combat has a whole new flavor to it without really changing the one v one structure.
Game Freak has tried many things, but they always come back to the basic, boring one v one four move limit template. Almost as if they're afraid to mix that up.
@Bolt_Strike
I was thinking it will be better if Pokemon can keep all the moves but only can use until 4 moves during battle and you can customize their moves for battle.
Also, I prefer 3 vs 3 model as other similar games like Pokemon (Yokai Watch, Moco Moco Friends, etc) already did that feature.
3 vs 3 model is Standard formation of RPG games and it can give you custom strategy so you can have Healer / Supportive / Saboteur Pokemons in your team to win the battle.
1 vs 1 for me it's already too archaic.
Some peoples just too stubborn to accept some new ideas.
@Browny You can already hot-swap them in Legends Arceus, you can have your Pokemon relearn any move without the need for a Move Relearner. At this point it's just a matter of whether or not they'll retain it from SV. They're not going to let you use more than 4 in a single battle though for the aforementioned reasons.
I do think it would be good to change how PP works, since that's Pokemon's MP equivalent (switching to Masters EX's energy/meter system would be a great improvement). I would agree that they should definitely look into making changes there, but I don't think they're going to turn their attention to that until they've settled on what they want to do with turn ordering, experimenting with both at once could get very wonky.
They have done a lot of experimenting and flashy gimmicks to encourage you to buy each entry but they've also made some permanent changes (for example, HMs are permanently gone now, regional variants and evolutions, new Pokemon being introduced mid-gen). They just haven't done this for battling because they haven't found a replacement that works yet. The improvements are coming, they're just not happening as quickly as you'd probably like.
I think the graphics look very nice. Sword and Shield was rather ugly, Arceus looked alright albeit rather rough... but this looks very clean and polished. As Pokémon graphics go, this is a pretty big step up.

Overall this looks like a major step in the right direction but then again I haven't played a pokemon game since x and y. I will skip this entry as well but that's due to franchise fatigue.
❗️I'm hoping to see that they HAVEN'T kept the catch-mechanics of 'Arceus' and that ScarVio is as good as 🗡🛡 though I DOUBT ANY Switch Pkm Game can be as good as those Games 😊
Palworld? What?
Just having a laugh, but seriously, kinda funny the new region's name is kinda in the phonetic balpark of the competing IP.
@Browny We don't know. You could be right, and if you are, I'll admit that, but don't jump the gun. They could change up the formula a little. I doubt it, but you never know.
@Vix Junichi Masuda doesn't work at Game Freak anymore, he's chief creative fellow of the Pokemon Company. There are much MUCH worse studios out there than Game Freak if you factor in things like how employees are treated rather than just the quality of their products
@solarhorse Didn't know that, but his influence is still there. Of course there are much worse companies, but purely in terms of the quality of product which I was referring to, Game Freak is pretty awful ...in my opinion. It's great that the work environment is wonderful, but it doesn't help the product when you're severely understaffed and your culture forbids any expansion or progress.
@Vix I'll give you the company culture not encouraging expansion and progress but Game Freak are absolutely not understaffed
It looks awful.
Please give it to Monolith next time.
@solarhorse Ok. I respect your opinion as well, friend.
I have to admit the more I see the trailer over and over again it's becoming easier to get excited for it. First impressions can be mixed, that's why analyzing every single detail and theorising about them can be more than fun.
I want to know more about the Terastal phenomenon now and if it's connected to the legendaries!
