Alongside the news that the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U eShops would be closing on March 27th 2023, Serebii.net has today confirmed that the same closures will apply to the free-to-play puzzle game, Pokémon Shuffle.
While all save data and play hours will be safe for those who already have the game downloaded, Serebii is referring to the gradual closure as an 'end of life service', with the game removing the chance to redeem daily login bonuses, play in Ranked Stages or obtain new Event Stage data.
To be clear, this closure currently applies only to the 3DS version of Pokémon Shuffle and no update has been given as to whether a similar method will be coming to the mobile app.
Pokémon Shuffle will remain available to download until the official 3DS eShop close date of March 27th, and you will still be able to play through Standard Mode and any Event Stages that you have downloaded up until this point.
This means that if you have ever been hesitant about purchasing Pokémon Shuffle, it is now more important than ever that you get over to the eShop and install it while you still have the chance.
As for other content that will be disappearing forever as of next year, check out out list of the best 3DS eShop games for a full range of recommendations - but remember, once they're gone, they're gone.
Are you a fan of Pokémon Shuffle? Will you be downloading while you still can? Let us know in the comments below!

I used to play Shuffle daily. I've done everything the game has to offer except S rank the last two expert stages because they are just stupid hard. I got tired of defeating Meowth for coins every weekend just to be able to try one of the remaining stages once before needing more coins.
I liked the game and wanted to be one of the few that have 100% completed it (without spending any real money as well) but I don't care enough to make it happen.
❓️What about all the people who haven't been born yet that never had a chance to play it?
Boo-hoo-hoo!
Digital Services eventually come to an end. People are going to have to stop crying over the upcoming closure of the 3DS E-Shop and move on.
Made it to Stage 350 without paying anything but after that it was pretty obvious the game was designed in such a way that it was pay to win. I'm not sorry to see this game go and the payed game Pokèmon Link Battle is far better anyway.
I used to play the Mobile version a lot, and like RubyCarbuncle says, there's a point where the game gets too cheap, even when you have some of the best Pokémon there could be in the game.
But that's not the reason I stopped playing it, the real reason is because the game didn't have any form of cloud saves and I lost all my progress and couldn't be bothered to get everything again.
@Late Describes my experience perfectly. That said, I hadn't even thought of this game in a long time and now I'm itching to twiddle around with it a bit, hah.
I played it time to time, when I didn't feel like playing any other game.
I still have it downloaded, so i'll probably will still play it. (or even play the Mobile Version of the game.)
This is sad. I still play it regularly as a time waster.
@Late I still play it daily
@Cyclist Maybe it would be okay if they just PORTED IT TO SWITCH
Not surprised, but it was a fun little game back in the day. Worth downloading before it goes, at the very least
@Cyclist Jeez, that seems kinda harsh...
Depressing. I loved this game. Some stages were wicked hard but still it was satisfying to clear a stage you were having trouble with. I guess this means we will have to go back to Trozei. I wish they would make a new trozei game, I really love the simplified icons and quick game play. Probably unlikely since the Switch doesn't particularly utilize the touch screen.
Forgot to mention this is actually the game I've played the most in my life. Not necessarily something to be proud of but thought it's worth sharing just to let people know how much grinding you have to do.
Here are my stats according to Activity Log:
Total Time Played: 810:33
No. Times Played: 3962
Average Play Time: 0:12
First Played: 18/02/2015 (launch day)
Last Played: 11/09/2020
Could I have done the same in half the time if I played more optimally? Absolutely. But I didn't bother looking up actual tactics before they added harder versions of the regular 700 stages. You basically just need to level up Eeveelutions and change their ability. Then you can plow through majority of the stages without any problems.
I don't really like EX stages since they're time based instead of move based, Ultra Beasts have stupid requirements and the addition of extra 700 stages was unnecessary but other than that I think the game is pretty fair. Back when the game launched, I beat the first patch of stages without using any items, except for the very last stage. There were times when I had maximum amount of coins and so many jewels I didn't know what I'd use them for. It was kind of irritating to realize how much money you can make with the weekend Meowth after I had spent them for acquiring money another way. Meowth event wasn't always a thing.
Anyway, I'm glad I played Shuffle. It was a fun experience for me and my family. My brother is actually playing it again after a long break. I think 3DS's free-to-play Pokémon games are bit underappreciated. This, Rumble (played for a good while) and Picross (completed) were all fun games you could play without ever spending money on them
@sneaky_sasquatch They don't have to do anything.
We had ELEVENTEEN YEARS!
@ValZ They had ELEVENTEEN YEARS!
Shame, but presumably the main stages will still be playable?
@Cyclist ...but still. It's just like the Satellaview. Most people didn't get to experience it, and most of it's content is still lost, but unlike that, it's a Japanese exclusive. However, even though Shuffle's content is properly preserved (and was properly localized), some just want to experience the glory days again, so... still. Not an excuse to flex dates.
@ValZ I was around when the Satellaview was around and although I didn't use one, I ACCEPT I'll most-likely NEVER play the Games released on it because I missed out, no real fault of my own.
In fact, I could cry about never playing a VirtualBoy proper and though only two of its Games interest me, I'm not too bothered as Games and that time period has moved on.
Back in the VERY EARLY 90s, I had a 'Video Challenger' (Google it). I had it before my first Console and loved it. Those Games have never been re-released EVER due to the technology. I wouldn't mind playing the two Games again but I'm not gonna moan about it if I don't because I accept some things get left behind; That's just life.
@Cyclist What about the people who didn't/couldn't get a 3ds at the time? It's the same thing (though to a lesser degree) of people saying "What about people just getting a switch? What if they want to play Mario 35 or 3d all stars or fire emblem shadow dragon?"
@sneaky_sasquatch But we CAN play SM 3D Allstars; I've had my GameCard since launch and there are PLENTY of them in GAME/CEx.
And I have to go back to my example I gave of the VirtualBoy.
@Cyclist
Nintendos not gonna pay you
@acNewUpdates Pay me for what?
@Cyclist Bootlicking
@Luma_Kid No, they pay me for accepting that all things come to an end and that some people will miss out.
Each comment I post gets me £5💷 in Nintendo E-Shop Credit 😊
@Cyclist Right, but the Video Challenger is WAY different than regular video game consoles. Besides, someone MIGHT wanna see the weirdness of the Virtual Boy & Pokémon Mini through their own eyes. And just like me, I don't think you were ever in Japan to see the Satellaview. I think. ...VHS gaming is different than other games.
@ValZ But then, 'someone MIGHT wanna see the weirdness of the Video Challenger through their own eyes'.
People HAVE to accept services end!
@Cyclist
No they don't. People are allowed to be upset at things and letting companies know your feelings on stuff is how they know what we want or don't want. Someone like you who gets mad over the fact that people have opinions you don't agree with is just a bickering child upset for no reason other than you see comments that you don't like, which is more pathetic than people upset that something they're passionate about is going away.
@Cyclist But the Video Challenger was NEVER an online service to begin with... I really don't get what you're trying to say with that.
I just saw this article and i'm speechless...
I have been playing this game since almost its start (i don't know since when because i was changing the date of my 3ds console, and spent a lot of time to it.
I never spent money on the game and used guidance only on stages that needed specific moves to be done in order to proceed.
