The year might be winding down, but the emulation experts at Hamster sure aren't. To kick off the month of December, the talented team has now released Konami's vertical side-scrolling shoot 'em up TwinBee.
This latest entry in the extensive Arcade Archives series was first released in 1985 as a coin-op video game. Players take control of fighters called 'TwinBee' and 'WinBee' which were developed by Dr. Cinnamon and must defeat an entire army by blasting them away.
According to Hamster, there are two different versions you can play – the Bubble System version (an arcade system board designed by Konami) and the ROM version. Both boards have a number of differences.
Below are some screenshots of the action:
As always, this one will set you back $7.99 / £6.29 and is said to "faithfully" reproduce the atmosphere of the original arcade display settings. Players can also test their skills against global high scores or team up with a friend.
We've seen TwinBee pop up on Nintendo platforms on multiple occasions over the years, so it's great to see it make a return on the Switch as a standalone title. Will you be adding this to your collection? Let us know.

A brand new Twinbee game alone could be a reason for me to buy Switch. Not Zelda or Mario, just give me three sentient spaceships blasting bad guys in the sky and you can have all of my money. sigh
I love Twin Bee. It never gets the hype it deserves
I feel like this game has seen a lot of re-releases
Hooray, another rehashed re re release of a game that's been ported plenty of times already.
I'd rather Twinbee RPG get a port. Never saw a release outside of Japan.
Or, you know, you could have downloaded the Arcade Classics Anniversary Collection by Konami last week when it was in sale, which has 8 games INCLUDING TwinBee for almost the same price.
But this one has online rankings which the collection I think doesn't have, so there's that.
Anyway, TwinBee is such a fun, creative game. I wish they re-released the PSP collection for the Switch. Or the other three Konami shoot em up collections as well (Gradius, Parodius, and Salamander).
@Krisi the Arcade Archives have more features - as well as the online rankings you mention, they have multiple ROMs, more complete Dipswitch and display settings.
@BJQ1972
Makes you wonder why they bothered with this version really.
It's funny how they recently announced Detana!! Twinbee, but then we get a surprise release of the first Twinbee. Not the first time a surprise release not included in announced upcoming games happens, though. I'm confident we'll get other for now PS4 exclusives like Bubble Bobble eventually.
And I love it, because it was the most appealing game in Arcade Classics by Konami really (for me), and now I can just get it and forget about that collection.
Bring PARODIUS for christ's sake.
You're might be our last hope Hamster.
Bring us Pop n' TwinBee from the SNES!
🙄 Ugh...hoping desperately we might get Altered Beast and/or Golden Axe arcade at some point.
Oh boy... Please...Quick forward to Konami 90's, where Konami ruled and most havent been released, ported, rereleased, Collection bundled and rererereleased. Mystic Warriors, Wild West Cowboys, Vendetta, Surprise Attack...
@Moroboshi876 For Bubble Bobble on the Switch just get 'Bubble Bobble 4 Friends'. It looks awesome and includes the arcade version of the original.
And yeah, TwinBee arcade/NES has been done to death. Would love 'Pop'n TwinBee' & 'Pop'n TwinBee: Rainbow Bell Adventures' on the Switch!
PS. TwinBee RPG is best forgotten!
@Spideron I know, but the game itself ended up being rather short and easy according to several reviews. And I like the way Hamster does these releases.
Anyway it will release sooner or later, it's on PS4 by Hamster too.
Why not release some of the Konami/Hudson games that have not already been released on the Switch?
I thought they said they were going to do Detana!! TwinBee.
Can’t we have things like chase hq 1 and 2 x x
Did this game have an obscure localized version called Rainbow Bell or something? Included in the perhaps equally obscure Konami Arcade Hits for the original DS.
I know it is a different dev, but I prefer the Fantasy Zone games.
Also, still waiting for the Arcade Archives Vs. Balloon Fight (announced a long time ago).
I’m a sucker for most of these releases, but only when they’re not somewhere else minus features I’ll never use.
Oh boy, another $7.99 single arcade game! Seriously, they should be $1.99.
I think the version in Konami's eShop Arcade Collection is good enough for me.
Frogger is being released next week. It has already appeared on the eShop, which is unusual for Arcade Archives.
Still waiting for Bubble Bobble and Rainbow Islands
Love it. Already have the Konami Arcade Classics version. I'm sure I'll still download this one though. I would love to see Gyrus come to Arcade Archives. crosses fingers
