WayForward, the independent developer and publisher perhaps best known for its very own Shantae series, is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. The exact anniversary date actually came just yesterday, and the company has shared a celebratory piece of artwork.
In recent times, WayForward has treated us to games like Vitamin Connection, River City Girls, and Shantae and the Pirate's Curse on Nintendo Switch, but you might remember that the studio's partnership with Nintendo goes way back to the turn of the millennia. Back then, we had the original Shantae on Game Boy Color, games like Xtreme Sports, and even The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie game adaptation on Game Boy Advance.
In a message shared to social media, WayForward has thanked its fans for their support:
Just last month, we had a chat with WayForward to discuss its latest Switch exclusive, Vitamin Connection. If you missed it, make sure to check that out to learn all about the game's influences and challenges, as well as some behind-the-scenes info on game development.
Congratulations, WayForward. Here's to another 30 years!

I can't wait for that full proper release of the new Shantae!
That’s nice. How about we celebrate with a nice 50% sale, guys?!!
No Ducktales? A shame really.
Shantae for Smash.
@Torakaka It's probably not there because the IP is not theirs.
@Torakaka It was pulled from stores last year, I'm sure it would have featured otherwise
Just make a company based around anime girls and official yet dead retro franchises.
Hope they stay many years to come

30 years is quite the accomplishment for an indie studio, congrats to them!
Amazing at their craft as they are, I'd love to see them branch out into 3D - particularly platformers and Metroidvanias
We need discounts, their well-received games are usually overpriced or rarely go on sale. I’ve been waiting for a decent price on River City Girls for a while.
Easily one of my favourite developers out there! Here's hoping they'll be around much longer, making awesome games!
Thirty years?! Incredibly impressive! Love their catalogue of titles and incredible music. Here’s to many, many more years of new games and innovations! Oh- and could we get Shantae for Smash, please and thank you!
Congrats to WayForward. I’ll show my appreciation by buying Shantae 5.
Congrats. They're one of my favorite companies, thanks in large part to their commitment to high quality 2D games.
Such a great company with a good bunch of games made with love and care
Now give us that sale to celebrate your anniversary!!!
Happy anniversary and hope many more will follow
30 years? What were they making in 1990?
Unless it's something terrible they wouldn't want to admit to, like how Bethesda's first game I think was Home Alone for the NES.
who's the lady in the lab coat with green shades?
Great, now can we have Shantae 5 on Switch please?
@KingMike Wayforward did (Still do) a lot of games with other people's IP, and in the early days also a lot of edutainment games, here's a full list (If incomplete, it lists "Shantae: Half genie hero" as upcoming, and no mention of the Switch): https://wayforward.com/all-games-by-platform/
Happy belated anniversary Wayforward!
