PlatinumGames has been soaking up a lot of media attention lately thanks to new game announcements and office expansions, but if there's one thing fans want more information on, it's the current status of Bayonetta 3 on the Switch.
Despite repeated assurances that development is progressing nicely, the fact that we've seen almost nothing of the console exclusive has caused some people to worry – especially as it was first announced three years ago.
While PlatinumGames still doesn't have anything else to share on the game at the present moment in time, in an interview with Gematsu at PAX East, Atsushi Inaba tried his best to put any fears about the game's production to bed once and for all:
(Laughs.) There’s nothing to worry about at all. There’s nothing to worry about. Things are going very well. Really, there’s nothing to worry about.
When do you think we'll be seeing more of Bayonetta 3? Could Nintendo and PlatinumGames make us wait until E3 (assuming E3 even happens, that is), or will we be seeing it as part of a Nintendo Direct broadcast? Let us know your prediction by leaving a comment below.

I think we will hear about this at E3.
Honestly, even if the event is cancelled, Nintendo could still have the big Direct it would normally have during the week of the event - it's not like Nintendo needs to be present.
It sounds like Platinum are ready to show it off. Nintendo are likely holding it until they can get the most eyes on it. The way they're talking, sounds like it will be out this year. I think based on the initial trailer of Bayo being cut in two, I'm expecting the whole game to be 2 player co-op.
I understand the development is going well, I'd just like to know if the game is still going well. I haven't heard any news since this article was posted several minutes ago. Really stressing me out!
Maybe some of the fans would stop worrying if we saw some actual gameplay. If at some point, they "assure" us that it's coming to Nintendo's next system, PlatinumGames is pretty much dead to me. I'm not happy with Nintendo at this point either. This isn't the first time the big N strung its fans along with false promises.
@Coach_A Time to keep hitting that refresh button every second until more news on how well developed is going.
I am not worried about this games development. I have perspective I am worried about this coronavirus at the moment, games can indeed wait x x
Guess the Kickstarter campaign is right around the corner, then.
Alright, how are things going though?
Now I'm expecting a video saying they will transfer the dev to retro studio and start from scratch
@DrDaisy what false promises?
He said the word "worry" three times, I think it means something!
I'm worried even though I'm being told there’s nothing to worry about. Things may be going very well, but that's no reason not to worry. What if things are going too well?! What if we're worrying over nothing, but it's the nothing we're worried about? If only Atsushi Inaba could have reassured us that we shouldn't be worrying at least one more time, then perhaps I'd stop worrying.
games awards 17 or E3?
I think I speak for most of us when I say "Please give us a new trailer with an actual release date!".
Please say "don't worry" a fourth time, and maybe I won't then.
This qoute is so out of context.
Hey, it's only been 3 years since the teaser trailer with no release date in sight.
Still, better late and good than early and lame
I went to buy 1 & 2 the other day when I found out they were 720p docked. Really kills my hopes for a 1080p version of 3.
@RudyC3 it means that we should worry
i'm putting money on Bayonetta 3 being a 2020 release its been long enough and I trust Platinum games
Wasn't this last week's news too?
They need to show something soon. The game has only had vague comments like this for years now.
Worry about Pikmin 4 instead.
"Everything is gooing well"
Sits back, grabs his coffee and his sigar, enjoys the scenery and falls asleep.
"Will we be seeing it as part of a Nintendo Direct broadcast?" Ah, Nintendo Direct... haven't heard that name in ages.... we still have those? Could've fooled me.
People gotta chill about Bayo 3 though. It'll be ready when it's ready. No matter your interests, there are plenty of other games to spend time on instead of hounding the devs.
No one:
Platinum: "Seriously guys, there's nothing to worry about. Don't be worried. Everything is fine. NOTHING IS WRONG. WE'RE DEFINITELY NOT WORRIED."
Omg!1!1! bayo 3 isn't happening. Is delayed 2030! I knowz it. I knowz it. U can't keeps saying that same thing nd have the same stories every week without lying face. Whatever shell wii do?!?!
I mean, I really don't mind as I haven't even played number 2, but aren't there a bunch of other games to play without crying? This news is getting really old.
@sleepinglion actually 2.2ish years, so, standard stuff here
A short nice footage about the game would be very helpful sir 👍
Despite their constant reassurances, the fact remains that it's been 3 years without a single screenshot...
Even Scalebound had more footage than Bayo 3 at this point.
@Borshi It has not been 3 years
Maybe saying ‘there’s nothing to worry about’ three times might make people think they protest too much ...
A screenshot, a synopsis, some artwork? Surely there’s something to show us!
I wish they would at least throw us a bone, and tell us something about how the game is different or show us some art work or something
@Crockin
Even so it's a lot of time with zero footage whatsoever besides a title.
Metroid Prime 4 did something similar and we all know how that turned out...
Don't get me wrong, I really do hope all is fine with the dev of Bayo 3, but I'm starting to get a little worried when there's news of reassurance here on a weekly basis lol
@Borshi it’s really nothing out of the ordinary, especially since they aren’t quiet about it. Sure, some games may have footage by now, but there’s never been some rule that you have to show something right away. This is still following the usual cycle of announcement/teaser, 1-4 years for release. If bayo 3 wasn’t coming very soon, they wouldn’t have made all those huge announcements last week.
@Crockin
Let's hope so. It'll be a worthwhile game to put my Switch back into action, since I don't care for Animal Crossing.
They confirmed this several times, people just need to learn the meaning of freaking patience.
@T7Hokage017 @HammerKirby Earthbound 64. It was first announced for N64, then allegedly moved to GameCube before Nintendo Power assured a reader that it would be coming to a future Nintendo system. Then it was completely scrapped and replaced by a Game Boy Advance game that was released exclusively in Japan. I didn't even really care about the game itself. I was just annoyed by the stringing along of fans and the reply letter arrogantly assuming that owners of Nintendo systems would keep buying more Nintendo systems indefinitely.
I hardly expect anyone else to care at this point, but you did ask.
I don't think anyone is worried about Bayonetta 3. The Bayonetta series isn't as popular as many might think. It is good, but not on a god-tier level like Mario, Zelda and I even dare say Sonic.
@Charinzardon Nintendo fans have a history of having to be "patient" that dates all the way back to N64. When a game that was made or at least published by Nintendo did not get delayed, it was a miracle. I realize there's no actual release date set, but at this point, every time a developer chimes in with vague assurances that the game is still coming out, it makes me wonder if there's something to hide.
P* has a track record of delivering high-quality titles and they don't tend to cancel projects. Sometimes we get a very quick turnaround like Astral Chain which was released the same year it was announced. Sometimes we get a rather decent wait like Nier Automata which was announced in 2015 and released in 2017. But still, let's say Bayonetta 3 gets released this year that's only a 3 year wait which is a bit above average for P*.
Now before people mention Scalebound that was cancelled because of a falling out between Microsoft and P*. I don't see Nintendo and P* having a falling out and based on comments by Kamiya they still see Nintendo as a close partner. So... Chill out everyone. If we don't see anything by E3 then worry, but for now just relax.
Same o same o. I’m sure the game will be fine.
At the end of the day, you will buy a game that looks great no matter how long you wait. Yea waiting sucks, but you must know that is how this has worked since n64/Saturn/ps1 at very least
@shonenjump86 this guy knows
Well that didn't help. I wanted to hear its going EXTREMELY well, not just very well..this game is nintendoomed. 😉 I'm all seriousness though, It has been quite a while of silence. A legitimate update would really cool. Surely, in 3 years, they can have some footage to show off if its going that well.
Platinum Games how about istead of telling us to not worry about Bayonetta 3 development, show us a screenshot or a trailer to make sure the development of the game is progresing well, just as you said several times.
@DrDaisy This can't the first time Nintendo has strung fans along with false promises because it isn't stringing fans along, and it hasn't been determined yet whether or not the promise of Bayonetta is false. Please overreact less in the future.
@DrDaisy bro imagine being this entitled
Imagine at E3, one of the trailers begins with Bayonetta 3 showing up on the screen. Seconds later "...is progressing smoothly." trailer ends
It’s not worry, it’s just after two plus years after the announcement, people want to see something.
@HammerKirby You asked me a question and I answered it. It's not a sense of "entitlement" to demand transparency and not be screwed around with. If you're gonna be a jerk about it, there is no further point in continuing this conversation. And I'm not a "bro"!
If we go by movie/anime/TV tropes, every time someone says "There's nothing to worry about, everything is perfectly fine" that usually means there's something to worry about and nothing is fine.
@Crockin Imagine going on a road trip with this lot in the back.
Oh yeah this must be going so well that we haven't seen anything substantial from it in nearly 3 years. We don't need to see what's going on.
In fact the game is so great and going so well that it never needs to be released or played by anyone. It doesn't need to be because it's going that damn well.
Just give it Goty already please, before this joker tells us its going well again...
But really though, with how long this has been cooking for, better be a lot more than some 20-30 hour hack and slash game.
In fact if its anything like the 2nd game then it certainly doesn't merit this wait time so better to just tell us you've given up so we can be done with it and move on.
@WiltonRoots imagine sitting in the car for 3 hours before the road trip even begins because getting ready is going so damn well.
@Razer They don't need to say anything until they're ready. They don't base their business around a bunch of dudes on a website counting the seconds until their announcement. Log off and live life. The info will come when it comes.
Lol to add to that, 3 hours would be a miracle with some women I've waited for...
@WiltonRoots "they don't need to say anything until their ready".
Yep... that makes perfect sense and i actually agree with it.
Which is why their getting so much stick for opening their pie holes 3 years ago when it WASN'T READY... in fact it probably wasn't even in development at the time, they went ahead and busted that load WAY to early.
Now their left answering rightful questions in: "so...about that game... you announced... nearly 3 whole years ago..."
Thanks for actually proving my point though.
Edit: by the way, announcing a game that isn't even in development is just asking for problems - unless the game was in development in 2017... which means that either it ISN'T going well or they lied.
Any developer that announces a game, normally has something to show for it 6 months later... maybe a year later....
These guys here after 3 years: its still going well.
Who are they lying too though? I know many Nintendo shills on this website lap that up like it was written in the bible, but the vast majority of us are not buying that crock. Games have been developed from scratch and released on the console in the same frame of time, one even by these developers themselves... who are they kidding??
They messed up development and either had to restart it or they have stopped it and don't want to admit it.
At least Nintendo admitted as much with Prime 4... which was announced at around the same time... but Nintendo themselves came out and said what the deal was...
These jokers are still lying.
@Razer on the plus side at least it's going well.
