Why is it that you can't have a copy on your stage saved in local ?! That's what baffle me the most about this. Sure Nintendo is stupid strict and opaque when it comes to online moderation but nothing new here and they're hardly the only one, but at least it wouldn't be such a b***s*** move if all the hardwork put into thoses popular levels weren't lost just because someone at Nintendo woke up in a bad mood last morning. Again it's another proof that shows how badly they design anything around online.
Nintendo's still overselling their Fire Emblem franchise. It's getting harder and harder not to get spoiled half the game just by looking at the youtube newsfeed... The 26th can't come soon enough.
I wish I could see this beautifull animation without the awfully low bitrate.
Nintendo you're not making Wii games anymore, you need to up the bitrate of your video to match the content you're now offering (Highly detailed stuff)
The Technical challenges, a game too big, too ambitious. We can see a lot of what was plan for the game through side content and concept arts, which explain why in the end so much of its world and story was left unexplored. Only for it to sell poorly on a dying console. Even its OST is criminally underrated. So many uniques and awesome tracks are buried and overshadowed by lesser one that are much more prominent.
If one game deserves a "complet editions" or a sequel which continue where the first left off it is this one.
Fire Emblem Heroes is great, no wonder it's doing so well.
Don't listen to hater that either drop the game right away or didn't bother to play it at all. It's a nice little mobile game. It's not a full fledge Fire Emblem game but it doesn't need to be.
Provide a service of worth and we'll see the value of paying for it.
For now, all I see is a service worse than anything else on the market, a market in which the best services are often free.
I understand and agree with Nintendo's view on keeping the value of video game high.
I have no problem paying 60$ for nintendo games (or others), because I see how their game are worth the asking price.
However I have yet to see how their online service is deserving of my money. It lags, it's unstable, it lacks feature, it's overall a bad experience and it doesn't offer anything new you cannot find anywhere else. The only thing it does is putting an additionnal paywall on great games I already pay full price to play. Even worse, in my opinion it ruins a lot of otherwise great game because it doesn't work properly or offer the flexibility requiered.
And, personnally, I don't care in the slightest about centuries old games I already played a billion times. To me, this is not what I'm paying for. It's like giving me a free towel with my shitty phone data plan, it's nice to have a free towel, but it doesn't make my data plan less shitty.
@bitleman That's an interesting point I've never though of, and I'm sure it applies in a lot of case.
However I'm pretty sure that's not what dictates Sakurai design decisions, especially when you think about it. "Nintendo designing around online play" Yeah sure !
You just need to see how laggy Smash 4 is online to realise they don't care about quality of play in online mode.
Im sorry but he is completly clueless about what is competitive play.
And I'm tired of this old [removed] that Melee is too difficult for people. I mean really ? Melee is a game too difficult ?! 14 years old me never had any problem playing melee and enjoying it. I wasn't a pro player, I wasn't a die hard try harder, I was just a regular kid playing a game and trying to beat the other guy. And I loved it because it was fast, fluid, responsive, and felt really good playing it because of that.
In the end that's what people like from Melee. Not the advanced techniques, Not the L-cancel, wave dash or [removed] like this. All of thoses are the icing on the cake that allow real pro player to reach new heigh of play and set them appart. What most regular melee player liked in melee is that the game feels right. It doesn't feel slow and boring like Brawl, It doesn't feel slippery and campy like smash 4. It feels as it should. Character have momentum, both on the floor and in the air, attacks have weight and impact. Low impact attacks can be string together while heavy attack really pack a punch. Every thing flows naturally in Melee because everything is physics based, whereas in current titles everything is "designed" to act a certain way and because of that it doesn't act naturally in most case and thus make the game feel wrong.
While I love Sakurai for the amount of care he puts into his games I really feel like he is not the one that should be responsible for the game design / balance, just make him design content and features.
I mean seriously, the fact that in the demo Bayonneta is still able to 0-KO someone like in Smash4 just prove how out of touch he is with the competitive aspect of his games.
@Savino Everything you're saying is already the case on PC which is basically 100% digital, while still selling 100gb+ games.
Technically, there's nothing stopping it.
What's preventing it is 2 things. Markets with limited internet access. And loosing the exposure of selling stuff in store. A lot of games are bought in store by people that are just looking for a gift, or bough by parents because the kid saw it while they were here. Going all digital means not reaching this market, which is the mass market, and as far as Nintendo is concerned, one of their main market.
it's smart to reach their 'one device per person' goal. Not every member of the family needs a dock, especially in japan where there's less room / less TVs in the house.
Not giving an AC adapter is a bit cheap tho. How much is an AC adapter ?
Because if you need to add the price of the AC adapter to the ~250$ (let's say 10$) it's only 40$ cheaper than regular Switch version. When you factor that docks are sold 90$ alone it would be a better idea to buy a regular switch and sell the dock to someone else for 40$+
I find the system pretty good as it is now. Sure we got screwed by the conversion rate. Sure if you buy physical game it is not that interesting (you make up for it with lower overall price for physical games) But outside of that it is actually pretty nice and straight forward now.
Buy something on the eshop ? anything, from full 110$ deluxe edition, to small 5$ indie game, DLCs, microtransation, season pass, anything at all. You get a 5% cash back..
Everything eshop related is now 5% cheaper. It's kinda nice.
So womens are not interested by default. But if there's gender issue on the line, suddenly they are interested ? I mean no offense to the women, they do what they want to do, and I understand how given the circumstances they might reconsider, BUT..... It's hard not to feel like womens care less about the subject than mens. But hey... The fighting scene needs to be a bit more welcoming to women so... it should help.
@electrolite77 Well no, it's not how it work. Why would anyone says "Let's forget about it !" if they can make money ? You have people whom job is to look at sell potential vs cost, they look at what it would cost to make it happens, and how much it realistically could sell and if it can make them money and they have the work force available then they do it. It all depends on thoses 2 numbers, "how much it cost" and "how much we can earn from it".
When you're in the business of making game you don't throw an opportunity to make business when you can.
Of course it cost more to use a 32gb card (and a 64gb if it existed) but if this additionnal cost translate to more sales ( a lesser barrier to entry ) less maintenance cost ( dealing with the split version of the game, and consummer backlash ) then it can even out.
What I'm trying to say is that there's no reason NOT to give the developper the choice. They can choose wether or not it makes financial sense for them. "Here's the 64gb card, it costs X. Don't want it ? We have a cheaper one at 32gb, you can reduce your game size and use it or split your game, your choice."
@electrolite77 some money is still better than no money. It's not like there's not already a lot of cost to release a game on a plateform. You're not asking them to sell their game at a loss... It's all about how much you can make from selling on a platform, that's how business work.
Anyway, I heard NBA 2k18 actually doesn't use the larger card available ( 32gb) and prefered to use this solution with a 32gb card, so in this particular instance, it's 2k's fault for choosing a "cheaper" solution. But it's difficult to blame them at this point. They couldn't know at the time how succesfull the Switch would be and they still don't know how much their game can sell in this console, so they tried to minimized the risks.
while it's a non issue for me (I have a big SD cards and mostly buy digital games anyway) it's another case of Nintendo awkardly fixing a problem they themself created. Why can't they make 64gb cartridge at a premium ? Sure it's not great for the publisher cause it cut their margin but that's what you get when you have to sell something too big (even in the physical world) And anyway, in this current case they have to deal with splitting their game in 2 part, requiere consummer to have a micro SD and a good internet connection. Not a great purchasing experience. As a publisher I would rather pay a bit more to ship my game in a 64gb card than have to deal with all of this and the consummer backlash that will inevitably follow.
Whatever I don't really care. It's just look like app voice chat all over again.
At least they seems to last at least 24hours, not some stupid 3-4 hours windows that ends up being 3 in the morning in some regions. Unlike, you know,.. the first Splatfest...
Code name Steam is not a new IP.
It can't be an Intellectual Property when it features public domaine character from the Wizard of Oz.
new IP =/= new game. I heard people saying Rabbit X Mario was a new IP. I mean really guys ? A cross between 2 IP is a new IP ?
The point of building an IP is to build upon it beyond the game it was born with. It's like a sub brand.
Splatoon and ARM are 2 successfull new IP (albeit Splatoon is much more successfull ).
@arrmixer Changing resolution on the fly can break thing, especially GUI element if it's not design for dynamic change from the get go. I'm enjoying playing FE:H for free since launch. I have no problem getting progress thanks to the amount of free/new stuff released every days. The support for this game is excellent.
Super Mario Run makes you pay premium price for a quite small amount of content. You still need internet to play it and Nintendo never planned to add content to the game.
In the end, with SMR you pay 10 buck to have some fun for like 1 week (im generous) and never touch the game ever again. With FE:H you pay nothing to have fun for as long as you want, there's always new stuff coming and the game is just deep enough that it keeps you entertained. Sure If you're not paying you might not always get the exact stuff you want right away but you still get something worthwhile you can work with.
no way a version of FE Fates is coming to switch. 3DS assets are way way way too low definition to be used anywhere outisde of 3DS. They would have to remake all the assets in the games and more.
