Re: Talking Point: Which Zelda Game Would You Most Like To See Remade?

KingChiliPepper

I voted for the original LoZ. I think it holds up pretty darn well and could be excellent with a new coat of paint and a little quality of life added.

Also went for Four Swords Adventure, because I never got to play the multiplayer back in the day so it would be cool to have a version of that with online co-op. I guess we have NSO for that now.

Something like Ocarina, I feel is already great so I don't need a remake personally. That said if the rumours are true and that's what we get, I'd absolutely play it.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (28th March)

KingChiliPepper

So I have some random picks this weekend. After finishing Pokémon Leaf Green and Resident Evil Requiem, I found myself floundering a bit on what to play next, but here's how I've been getting on:

Ristar - always loved the vibe of this game but never played more than a few levels so I've committed to a full playthrough. It's so good man. Has to be enjoyed with the sound loud so you can bop to the killer soundtrack. The stretchy arm mechanics haven't aged a day. Truly a gem!

Kid Icarus: Uprising - I missed the early 3DS days so this passed me by when it came out. It's been on my wish list for a while and I saw a cheap copy on eBay. Started it last night and, damn, instantly I got it. This thing is so cool. The flight sections work so well with the stylus controls. Everything is so stylish and polished, the voice acting and conversations that go on while you play give everything a propulsive feel. Absolutely killer, having a blast.

Nickelodeon Kart Racers 3 - impulse bought it on sale. Big mistake, it's very lame. To be fair I think it's just a few shades of polish away from being a decent kart racer, but yeah, not the one. Also it runs like ass on the Switch, Switch 2 is much better but it's still ugly as hell there.

Have a good weekend all x

EDIT: ooh, also Slay the Spire 2. So far it's kinda just more Slay the Spire, which is a little disappointing because I've already put hundreds of hours into that! 😂 I'll give it more time though and see if it wins me over.

PS: I don't know how to format the game titles in bold like everybody else does. Its easier to read like that, how do I do that?

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (7th March)

Hopefully finishing up Resident Evil Requiem. It has been a blast and I'm tempted to play through again and go for more PlayStation trophies.

Should also be able to finish my playthrough on Pokémon Y, then I can focus fully on Leaf Green (which has been sooo much fun to revisit so far).

Also we just got Pokopia as well, so maybe I'll get a chance to start that too. Though Dragon Quest VII Reimagined is still begging to be finished!

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (28th February)

I started Resi 9 this morning on PS5, and oh my word am I having a blast with it. Giggling with joy at roundhouse kicking with Leon and then chuckling in fear as horrifying things chase me as Grace. The juxtaposition is so much fun. This is peak Resident Evil.

Also started Pokémon Leaf Green on switch last night. Just wonderful to be back. I've replayed the OG gen 1 games many times but never revisited these remakes. It's great to see Kanto and it's native Pokémon depicted in the gorgeous GBA pixel art. I am juggling this alongside my first playthrough of Pokemon Y on 3DS. Playing ZA made me want to see more of Kalos. It's far from my favourite gen, but I am enjoying working through it and building a team of Mons I haven't used before.

A good weekend of games for me! Just a shame I have to work tonight. But Sunday is all mine and I shall be in front of Resi 9 all day.

Re: Poll: What's Your Favourite 3DS Model?

KingChiliPepper

I have the SNES New 3DS XL, which I've been playing recently, actually! It is one of the comfier DS models as far as I remember and it's a nice size, with a big screen and space for your hands, whilst still easily pocketable.

Probably the ideal DS for me, I've enjoyed digging it out and carting it around again for the last couple of weeks. Only issue is I don't get any street pass hits here in Sheffield. Did alright in London though!

Re: Mini Review: Rayman: 30th Anniversary Edition (Switch) - Nicely Orchestrated But Misses A Key Note

KingChiliPepper

I echo what some are saying regarding Rayman 2. There are so many versions of that game, and each port has something unique. It's hard to say there's a definitive version of Rayman 2, so it would make a great candidate for its own collection which included every possible version.

Regarding this one, as much as I'd like to revisit Rayman 1, I'm gonna wait to see if they patch in the old music before making a purchase. I haven't heard what has been included here but the original soundtrack was so great that I just don't understand why they'd change it. At least offer the option to have modern or classic music.

Re: Anniversary: The Legend Of Zelda Turns 40 Today - How Did You First Play It?

KingChiliPepper

I don't think I knew the NES existed until the GameCube or Wii virtual console came around. I was a Sega kid originally and just never came across anything Nintendo that preceded the N64 (aside from the Game Boy). Pretty sure I first played the OG Zelda on Wii, but I didn't do a proper playthrough until playing it on Switch. I was amazed by how well a lot of it held up. Obviously it's pretty obtuse on your first playthrough, but I used a guide in places. For the most part a lot of what makes Zelda what it is today is already in that first game. Wild.

My first Zelda game was either Wind Waker or Ocarina. I bought a GameCube on eBay, having seen one at a friend's house, and it came with tonnes of games. Too many really, I ended up just dabbling in a lot of them and that's what happened with Zelda, so I didn't build an appreciation for it.

The first Zelda I got at launch, played to completion and completely loved was Twilight Princess. That was a formative gaming experience for me. I've never been great at games so I didn't finish many as a kid. By 2006, I was 14 and able to go on the full journey of this game, perhaps spurred on by the more mature look of the graphics. I just hadn't played anything like it up to that point, it was a truly magical adventure, filled with surprises and wonder. I've never revisited it, so the memory is preserved in amber in my mind.

If TP ever gets ported to switch, I'd love to play through it again. I am a little worried it wouldn't hold up to how I remember it though. It kick started the love for what is now one of my very favourite series in games.

Hers hoping Nintendo do at least something to commemorate this 40th anniversary.

Re: "We Thought It Would Be Fun" - Nintendo Explains Why Pokémon FireRed & LeafGreen Aren't On Switch Online

KingChiliPepper

I don't mind them being a stand alone purchase rather than on NSO. Frankly it's nice to be able to own them rather than be tied to the subscription. I like that they went for these versions rather than OG red and blue - played those enough personally so I'm excited to have access to these again.

Generally feeling positive and eager to dive in but, no online play? That's a bit lame when you're charging for these and already integrating local wireless play, no?

Re: Pokémon Pokopia Sped Through Development Thanks To Some Good Old Collaboration

KingChiliPepper

I got to play 20 mins of Pokopia at the Pokémon EUIC last weekend. I was pleasantly surprised by how charming, fun and just so Pokémon it felt. I thought it might be more like a Builders game with a Pokémon skin, but the world in the demo was full of mons, getting to chat to them and use their powers as ditto works really well, and there's even a Pokédex that logs all the mons you've met.

Playing it took me from intrigued to day one purchase. I think it's going to be really solid.

Re: Preview: Dizzying Detail, Fluctuating Frames - A Good Look At 'Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection'

KingChiliPepper

I started playing the trial version the other day and, whilst I am totally hooked on the vibe and story presentation here, the Switch 2 performance in the demo is a bit disappointing. I could play on PS5 to avoid this issue, but i don't really want to give up the portability. JRPGs just feel much better and more accessible on Switch to me. I'm hoping the full release will bring a more stable build, or at least just cap the FPS at 30 to avoid so much fluctuation.

Either way, this game seems dope so far and I'm excited to dive in further.

Re: Poll: What's Your Favourite Gen 3 Pokémon?

KingChiliPepper

Whilst I really like gen 3 as a whole, there isn't really a single Pokémon here I feel particularly attached to. As a collective, sure, great batch of Pokémon, I just don't have a favourite.

I didn't initially play this gen on release, as I had a foolish moment where I thought I'd aged out of Pokémon (the gen 1 remakes brought me back and then I played Ruby). Maybe that contributes to how I feel here. I loved this gen's approach to legendaries, especially the Regis, where you had to hunt for them and then solve a translation puzzle, but i wouldn't pick them as faves.

This was the first gen that moved away from the classic Pokémon design philosophy, which I imagine came from the limitations of the sprites on the game boy, where most had a simplistic silhouette. From gen 3 onwards, thanks to the GBA, the Pokémon designs get more complex. I do prefer the initial 2 batches of Pokémon because of this, though I acknowledge they had to move away from this to continue to diversify each creature and hit the 1000+ we have today.

That's a long winded way of saying, I dunno. I'm skipping a vote and intrigued how the results shake out.

EDIT: just wanna make clear, I'm not saying this is a bad gen, like it's a really cool batch of Pokémon and they tie into their region and story really well! Just couldn't pick one myself.

Re: Poll: What's Your Favourite Gen 2 Pokémon?

KingChiliPepper

I flippin love this era of Pokémon. I'm well overdue a revisit of the gen 2 games. Feels like a basic pick, but I went for Feraligatr. He got me through Pokémon Silver back in the day and he got through Legends ZA a few months back too. I also recently built a Pokémon TCG deck round him (it's not great but fun to play), hoping it gets a boost with the upcoming Mega Feraligatr card!

Anyway: big blue croc is cool, he got my vote.

Re: Poll: What's Your Favourite Gen 1 Pokémon?

KingChiliPepper

The starters are cool, Gengar is a beast, Meowth is a babe, Jigglypuff is an absolute icon. Recently I'm a newfound Caterpie enthusiast after picking up an adorable plushie last time I was at a Pokémon Center.

However, my boy POLIWHIRL gets my vote. I love that goofy little guy.

Re: Poll: So, Do You Prefer Hollow Knight Or Silksong?

KingChiliPepper

I didn't manage to finish Silksong, despite wanting to. It's a beautiful game and there are some exquisite moments of gameplay, but I spent far too much time frustrated and stuck to say I really enjoyed my time with it. Just horrendously difficult for me, to the point of exhaustion.

Hollow Knight however was an absolutely magical experience from start to finish. I wish I could experience it for the first time again.

Both games have incredible soundtracks and sound design though, they're tied on that front!

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (24th January)

KingChiliPepper

I just kicked off my weekend by rolling credits on Metroid Prime 4. 100% items but I missed some scans somewhere along the way. Luckily I have the amiibo to unlock the secret cut scene. Overall, really enjoyed this game, been a pleasure to chip away at over the last month.

I think I'm just about done with Ball x Pit. I think... It does keep sucking me back in. I've done most of the New Game+ but it's starting to feel a bit grindy so I think I should stop. Dang it's such a nice game to chill out with whilst the TVs on though. It's taken the spot Vampire Survivors had for so long, and I ended up playing that for like 200 hours so maybe I'll never escape!

Also playing through Final Fantasy 7 - the original. I've never played it and want to experience it before diving into Remake and Rebirth. So far very good, but I lost a bit of momentum after leaving Midgar. I got stuck on how to catch the Chocobo to cross the marsh. Turns out I was being an idiot. I'm back on track now and eager to see more of the game.

With Metroid done, I'm thinking maybe Silent Hill f next. I wanna play that before RE9 comes out as I'm worried that will over shadow it and I'll never get round to playing it. I also have Kirby Air Riders and Age of Imprisonment to dive into though. Maybe they can wean me off Ball x Pit!

Re: Talking Point: Metroid Prime 4 And The Burden Of Being 'Good Enough'

KingChiliPepper

@The_Nintendo_Expat agree to disagree I guess. I like that Nintendo Life leaves room for opinion pieces like this. Personally I prefer reading 'I' to 'we' in magazines or on sites like this. It's good that they acknowledge different takes are out there. I don't like when outlets pretend there isn't a team of individuals working behind them. As you say though, just my 2 cents.

Re: Talking Point: Metroid Prime 4 And The Burden Of Being 'Good Enough'

KingChiliPepper

I'm surprised the comments here are negative too. I'm still working through the game and I'm having a blast. To my experience, it plays just like I remember the old Prime titles. Doesn't feel lesser to me. I think the overall design of the game is perhaps outdated compared to other new games on the market, but I don't think that older style of design inherently makes it bad.

Samus feels great to control, I'm enjoying exploring each of the dungeon style areas, the boss fights are fantastic. I love the music and the atmosphere of the game's world. Maybe my perspective will change when I reach the end, but right now I just don't get the negativity.

Re: Mystery Product Code Sparks Rumours Of A New Switch 2 Model

KingChiliPepper

Yeah, as some have pointed out, this is definitely a hot ball of nothing. I don't have much to add other than, I'd love Switch Lite 2 eventually. I still use my OG Lite when I'm out of the house because it's such a nice size to chuck in a bag and take everywhere.

I must have spent most of my Switch playtime on my Lite. I almost sold it to get an OLED when that came out, but I'm glad I didn't. Man, I love my Switch Lite.

Re: Disappointed In The Switch 2's Joy-Con Colours? Dbrand Has You Covered

KingChiliPepper

I dunno man, when you colour them like this, the Switch 2 kinda loses its identity. It makes it look more like an OG switch. I know they aren't the most exciting thing as they are, but I really like the design of the newer console.

That said, I think there's room for Nintendo to be more expressive with the colour and design of the Joy Con 2. Hopefully we see something like coloured buttons for a special set?
