I really can't warm up to the overall financial prerequisites set into LEGO Dimensions in the slightest. Locking actual on-disc content behind paywalls as enormous as some LEGO sets (granted, the starting lineup for Dimensions-compatible sets doesn't have extremely expensive sets) is a really poor method of extorting money from unsuspecting parents and children. Also, the sheer amount of mandatory purchases just for 100% clearance is an injustifiable crutch to the experience, since the game doesn't really miss a chance to point out your lack of sets, either. Basically, this game is an absolute nightmare for paranoid completionists such as me. Hell, I fear I could develop OCD from getting locked out of sections in every level (and I don't even know if that's possible)! And even for huge LEGO enthusiasts, I can't possibly imagine this game to be a good deal, since over 500$ just for a complete game is just despicable, even when taking into account all the LEGO sets those folks would have lying around everywhere.
I was kinda surprised that SMG2 was released before the first game, so it's nice to see it might still make it. As for Skyward Sword, I couldn't feel more indiffent about it. They should just get rid of Other M altogether. A tumblr-version of Metroid that lacks even the most basic levels logic and game design really shouldn't gain any attention - we have enough Metroid mockery to deal with as it stands.
@liljmoore People hated Other M because the entire game made no sense, and heavily contradicted almost everything the Metroid franchise established. And Samus has no emotions in Other M anyway (at least not more than in any other Metroid games), just delusional outbursts of monologues.
I don't know what happened lately, but Nintendo shows an increasing sloppiness for singleplayer in multiplayer-centric games. Splatoon was already a testament for this despicable practice, and Smash 4 and Mario Kart 8 didn't fare better either, but now it's getting pathetic. The simple rule should always be: if it's in the game, make it good! But this shoddy excuse for singleplayer seems more like a critical annoyance to push people towards multiplayer without making an effort to motivate them. I wasn't interested in this game in the first place, but now I'm really starting to lose faith in Nintendo's quality standards...
The lack of online is kinda disappointing, but understandable considering NamcoBandai entered a double gambit by making a game that looks and sounds deliberately SNES-like (except for the great soundtrack that wasn't even mentioned in the review!), and also by giving it to Arc System Works, who are extremely persistent about competitive balancing - something no Dragon Ball game ever even scratched. This combination of unusual factors for a DBZ game (retro style and good balancing), plus the 3DS-only release, make this a tough venture to sell to fans of the games.
That said, this is easily the best DBZ fighter I've played since Budokai 3, so I'm all over this game!
Why? Why would anyone in their right mind pay money for this?! Opinions on the horror aspect of jumpscares aside, this game is literally just a slightly less ugly version of a freeware game that can be brought to similar visuals with a few mods. Besides, the whole concept of Slender is a one-trick pony that gets old as soon as you finish the objective once.
The game still seems pretty interesting, though I wonder - the guy said that these changes were made to make the game, and NG+ in particular, more palatable for western audiences, but wouldn't these changes also be very much appreciated by japanese players? Couldn't hurt to provide them with these adjustments, as well.
@MrSeitaro Damn, that really sounds needlessly tedious... now I'm not sure if I wanna get the game anymore.
Well, at least X/Y owners even get Hoopa at all - considering the lousy treatment with new Megas for OR/AS that didn't get patched into X/Y, I wouldn't have put it past GameFreak to just screw X/Y owners over and not include them in the distribution. But still, why are they even including internet connection as an option in the mystery gift section when they're not even gonna use it at all?
@EllenJMiller That's why people like me try to grab as many codes as possible and hand them out online for everyone who cannot reasonably access any of these stores.
@GVIL They're free. It's a promo sheet with a scratch-off panel, and they're normaly up for grabs somewhere in-store - unless the particular shop only hands them out at the counter, that is.
Haha, not bad! It's a bit heavy on the guilt trip, but hey, the implications are positively unsettling when you consider that there was a time when Isabelle was also watching over Akia Village. Oooh, the fanfic potential is strong with this one...!
@SurferClock I doubt that's even possible, since the retail version doesn't even store data on your 3DS, so the very idea would be limited to owners of a digital copy. No, it's simply a sneaky joke amied towards all those people who abandoned their town without ever making it far to begin with.
I saw this coming the moment he admitted the funds were consumed back in April. What's more, none of the kickstarter backers have any right to complain about their lost money. No matter how you look at it, you made an INVESTMENT, and any investment is connected to a chance of failure. Of course, this case is different since the guy behind Midora asked for way less than he needed because he wouldn't get any money otherwise, but people must realize that there's no such thing as guaranteed success, and that any project could fail for several reasons. Oeople need to start treating Kickstarter less like a pre-order machine and more like a business platform. Business can fail, and your investment may be in vain, that's the business world for you.
I would laugh about this, but this kind of overreaction is nothing new for Twitter, or Nintendo fans. If Nintendo had something big to announce, they probably wouldn't waste it on something worthless, like a tweet, but instead announce a new Nintendo Direct or something.
@Ichiban Sometimes, the fine line between optimism and delusion can be hard to distinguish. In this case, I'd say it's more of the latter.
I don't know if I want this anymore. The excessive fanservice is actually kinda tame compared to actual idol marketing in japan (seriously, some of that stuff could be used in an erotic magazine, but they put it on ad boards in the city instead), but the whole thing about idols is always ticking me off big time, and even the songs used here were full of autotuning, which I see as the most pathetic thing a singer could ever use. Sing for real or shut up, simple thing.
@FierceRagnar Well, there is that FE hashtag, which is part of the title. Dunno if you're gonna count that.
Well, good thing I'm already blocking anything that wants my data, no matter where. However, I don't use the web version of MiiVerse, anyway, so what do I care...
@shani I don't think I do. I always consider the postgame an area for people who want harder challenges, and also outright new kinds of challenges to prevent the game from feeling repetitive. But Galaxy 2 doesn't give me that feeling at all. None of the postgame feels new or fresh, just slightly different with a bit less margin for error. It expects you to know what you do, but what you need to know isn't much at all. Also, most of the Green Stars are visible during the stage intro already, and the ones that aren't were never really hidden all that well, either, partially due to the more linear game structure. I can't recall any particular Green Star that gave me trouble for more than a few seconds.
@shani I sure did, since I was hoping to find a challenge, only to 100% the game empty-handed (and kinda frustrated, since Miyamoto's anti-plot agenda made the 100% reward completely pointless). I did lose a few lives, of course (partially to stupid mistakes, partially to not paying attention), but the challenge curve to me felt like a joke. The 100% route never moves beyond the skill required for just finishing the least required amount of stars to reach the final boss, so there's also no higher skill level involved. Just more time - MUCH more time playing levels up to three additional times for the lazy Green Stars.
@ikki5 You misunderstand me, I think. What I mean is that people don't abandon a brand just because it's not on this list anymore. They abandoned it first, which resulted in that brand getting knocked off the list. It doesn't cause a second reaction from any noticeable amount of people, though.
Dude should've seen this coming. NEVER talk about legal affairs until everything is settled and over. The Pokémon Company probably took it as an attack from him to turn towards the public with this dispute, despite the general public not being involved in the slightest. And even if unintentionally, he caused some massive outrage against TPC, which they fear might negatively impact their reputation, and by extension, sales figures of their products.
Sounds nice, but I don't know if I'll find much use out of this. I'm not all that competitive, despite my obsession with proper balancing. Besides, most friends who wanted to play Splatoon with me already gave up on it some time ago...
I still wanna preorder, but I'm afraid I can't afford it. A shame, really, since this seems to be the first well-balanced Dragon Ball fighter in a very long time (thanks to Arc System Works, though).
Eh, so? Unless there are people who actually only pay attention to brands that are on this list (which I'll assume does happen, but not on any noticeable level), the impact of Nintendo not being on it is very much inconsequential.
Well, now that the Senran Kagura 2 DLC is all released, it's gonna be a good number of boring Thursdays before something exciting shows up again...
@Andyliini I dunno if that applies to the GBA version as well, but Pocky & Rocky was pretty damn difficult on the SNES, so you might wanna look into that.
I always found the difficulty in 3D Mario games (except Sunshine) to lack an understanding of its own design. Many supposedly difficult parts can be avoided or have very high failure/error lenience while also being so drastically different from one another that the expected skill for one certain obstacle is never asked for again. You often don't need to learn any specific tricks or solutions because they're all one-shots, which means that the player might not learn how to deal with other situations to begin with due to inconsistent intensity. To be frank, Nintendo nailed the difficulty in Super Mario World, where both conquering and avoiding unique and recurring obstacles required a progressively increasing amount of skill while being very straightforward in terms of design. But that was 2D, and the level design was restricted to that plane. 3D games are simply harder to balance because of 3D. Example: I found both Super Mario Galaxy games to be laughably easy, while many cite either games' Grandmaster Galaxy stage as one of the most challenging levels in Mario History. That's a subjective thing where it's basically impossible to deliver an equally challenging experience for different folks.
So, to cut it "short": Miyamoto must realize that the difficulty (or lack thereof) lies within enemy placement, power-up distribution, and the requirement level for platforming challenges. This can all be individualized depending on a players' performance (like extra blocks appearing at a jump the player died at multiple times), but should also be clearly explained in Difficulty Settings that allow you to turn various helper features on and off. Basically, don't give players a simple [Easy|Normal|Hard] choice - let them choose what help they want: frequency of powerups/enemies/coins, getting level assists/golden powerups/item radar functions if they die too often, and probably some other stuff I can't think of right now. The possibilities exist, but Nintendo (and especially Miyamoto) needs to simply leave the choice to the player instead of dictating every possible thing.
@Luna_110 Yeah, I definitely agree. The principle is clear, and The Pokémon Company was right to stop this, but going straight for court is really overkill. There's a limit to how much force is reasonable to protect ones property.
If they released this version first and the P2W version later, I might've fallen for it. But the insane lack of content and the fact that it still is available for free (technically) on the e-Shop, makes this a horrible deal at full retail price. Especially with Pokémon Rumble Arena 3D being available dirt cheap, and still being way better than this game.
I... what? I don't even know what to say, except that the effort behind this tournament seems way out of proportion compared to the popularity of the game.
@Uberchu It's difficult for me to follow that, since Germany (and most of Europe in general) doesn't know amiibo shortages, but I'm still hearing lots of complaints from NA and Japan. Maybe you're among the lucky people who live in just the right place to not have to face these shortages.
Scalebound looks so unbelievably cool, it's almost making me want an XBone! Almost. The teaser from last year's E3 was already interesting, as it hinted at various concepts at the same time (I thought it would be Platinum's take on a Monster Hunter-esque game) without revealing anything specific. But when the gameplay was revealed, I was still surprised at how awesome it looked, despite having high expectations.
@amiiboacid It's the exact same concept. Up to four players throw dice to move their characters over a board and collect a minor currency. Every now and then, the game throws an interactive minigame at you that can get you even more currency. The one with the most after a certain set of rounds/somebody reaches the end is declared winner. The only difference is the Animal Crossing reskin.
The more Animal Crossing moves away from its own concept, the more it alienates its fans. Many people I know are skipping both HHD and this... thing, despite being enormous fans. This stuff is even annoying my mother, and she's about as nuts about Animal Crossing as humanly possible (which is a lot). But she said herself that this game is just a lousy Mario Party clone, and the amiibo reliance makes the whole point of the game even more ridiculous.
But this "exclusive deal" is just as pathetic as pre-order bonuses. You have to waste about twice as much money on two figures and three cards than the actual deals is worth - talk about a new lowpoint, Nintendo.
@mariovslink62 That's possible, but even then, using any kind of mod online is highly dangerous, especially on consoles, which aren't supporting mods in the slightest. If the user of this mod is that oblivious, I have to question how he/she managed to get the mod running in the first place.
@DarthNocturnal Well, I dun goofed, it seems. Can't say how I missed all of that, might be a lack of sleep - nonetheless, I apologize to you. I was wrong, and I will have to accept that.
But seriously, these kinds of modders are just awful. I like it when modders show some creativity, but as soon as it poses a threat to the security of anyone's data, it crosses a clear line between dorking around and ruining the fun.
@DarthNocturnal Nope, Street Fighter II never did such a thing on a Nintendo console. And with Pokémon Snap, not the game code was altered, but the N64 framework used to run it in order to access snapshots and screencap them onto the message board.
Considering how boring and generic the singleplayer campaign was, I don't see any reason to get a version that doesn't even have multiplayer at all.
@Windy Obviously, it won't. The Nintendo WFC service is long dead, and altering the games' code to work with newer servers would invalidate this game as a VC title. Same goes for local multiplayer.
Luckily, Nintendo pulled a last-chance deal on me by offering me 750 stars for linking my CN account to my NNID, which I gladly did. That improved my currency to the exact 3.000 stars I needed for the MK8 soundtrack.
And now I'll wait patiently for announcements on the new service, just so I can rant about it unreasonably.
A minor glitch, but as he said himself, a very unfair trick to use against the uninformed. But, I always get a bit excited when there's an easily executable out-of-bounds glitch - it's a lot of fun to discover otherwise invisible details, and how far the map is actually constructed.
Of course it sold well on Nintendo consoles. The games' appeal is largely based on the NES-era platformers, so the chance of reaching people who grew up with the NES or are generally fond of these older games on WiiU and 3DS is substantially higher than on Sony/Microsoft consoles, both of which entered during the 3D hightimes of gaming. Also, Yacht Club games made an effort to actually promote each target platform with exclusive features and/or content, not to speak of the generous free DLC expansion. They simply made the market an attractive offer, and Nintendo fans were delighted to see a quality title being offered to them without any major drawbacks.
Nonetheless, Shovel Knight is an exception to the rule, not the other way around. The vast majority of indie games doesn't really fare that well at all, for various reasons I partially don't fully understand.
I won't deny mobile gaming having lessend the overall appeal of handhelds, but come on, Yoshida! What's with the dumb excuses lately?! The VITA simply lacks any kind of focus. First off, all kinds of niche games are getting released on it, but barely any of them are even remotely interested in dealing with the unintuitive backside touchpad. But there are no big titles that actually move systems, nonetheless. Secondly, Sony themselves mismarketed the VITA into obscurity. First, it was the "HD handheld", then the "portable PS3", and right now it's either the "wannabe-GamePad clone for PS4 nobody needs", or the "porting from PS3/4 to VITA is easy, so we'll put our game on it" container. And the announcement that Sony themselves dropped game support on it (as in, their dev teams no longer make VITA games) only served to drag it further down.
But this has to be the most ignorant claim I've heard from him. He already blamed consumers for "not understanding the PlayStation TV", which was idiotic in its own right, and now he's going one step further blaming consumers for their own lack of focus on the VITA. This is nothing short of lousy...

Re: Review: LEGO Dimensions (Wii U)
Re: Former Sony Exclusive PixelJunk Monsters Is Coming To The Wii U eShop
Eh, not a fan of tower defense at all, but why not? More platforms are always a good thing for 3rd parties.
@MamaLuigi It's very unlikely that Nintendo and Sony will ever team up again, considering that Nintendo basically brought Sony upon themselves.

But the insane lack of content and the fact that it still is available for free (technically) on the e-Shop, makes this a horrible deal at full retail price. Especially with Pokémon Rumble Arena 3D being available dirt cheap, and still being way better than this game.
Re: The Puzzle & Dragons: Super Mario Bros. Edition International Tournament is Now Open in North America
I... what? I don't even know what to say, except that the effort behind this tournament seems way out of proportion compared to the popularity of the game.
Re: Nintendo of Japan's Website Reveals Four More Animal Crossing amiibo
@Uberchu It's difficult for me to follow that, since Germany (and most of Europe in general) doesn't know amiibo shortages, but I'm still hearing lots of complaints from NA and Japan. Maybe you're among the lucky people who live in just the right place to not have to face these shortages.
Re: Scalebound was Originally Planned to be a Wii Game
Scalebound looks so unbelievably cool, it's almost making me want an XBone! Almost.
The teaser from last year's E3 was already interesting, as it hinted at various concepts at the same time (I thought it would be Platinum's take on a Monster Hunter-esque game) without revealing anything specific. But when the gameplay was revealed, I was still surprised at how awesome it looked, despite having high expectations.
Re: Nintendo Attempts to Show the Fun Side of Animal Crossing: amiibo Festival as amiibo Bundles Are Confirmed
Re: Nintendo Attempts to Show the Fun Side of Animal Crossing: amiibo Festival as amiibo Bundles Are Confirmed
Re: Splatoon 'Octoling' Modder Could Cause Save Data Problems
@mariovslink62 That's possible, but even then, using any kind of mod online is highly dangerous, especially on consoles, which aren't supporting mods in the slightest. If the user of this mod is that oblivious, I have to question how he/she managed to get the mod running in the first place.
Re: Nintendo of Japan's Website Reveals Four More Animal Crossing amiibo
Sure Nintendo, keep making completely new figures. That's definitely gonna help your stock issues...
Re: Metroid Prime: Hunters Arrives on Wii U Virtual Console in Japan
@Gauchorino Most likely.
@DarthNocturnal Well, I dun goofed, it seems. Can't say how I missed all of that, might be a lack of sleep - nonetheless, I apologize to you. I was wrong, and I will have to accept that.
Re: Splatoon 'Octoling' Modder Could Cause Save Data Problems
Good thing I don't use numbers in my name... >_>
But seriously, these kinds of modders are just awful. I like it when modders show some creativity, but as soon as it poses a threat to the security of anyone's data, it crosses a clear line between dorking around and ruining the fun.
Re: Metroid Prime: Hunters Arrives on Wii U Virtual Console in Japan
@DarthNocturnal Nope, Street Fighter II never did such a thing on a Nintendo console. And with Pokémon Snap, not the game code was altered, but the N64 framework used to run it in order to access snapshots and screencap them onto the message board.
Re: Metroid Prime: Hunters Arrives on Wii U Virtual Console in Japan
Considering how boring and generic the singleplayer campaign was, I don't see any reason to get a version that doesn't even have multiplayer at all.
@Windy Obviously, it won't. The Nintendo WFC service is long dead, and altering the games' code to work with newer servers would invalidate this game as a VC title. Same goes for local multiplayer.
Re: Shenmue's Ryo Hazuki Joins The Growing Cast Of Project X Zone 2
Estelle already was in PXZ together with Yuri, and Flynn as an assist unit. Just sayin'.
Re: Reminder: Club Nintendo Closes in Europe on 30th September
Luckily, Nintendo pulled a last-chance deal on me by offering me 750 stars for linking my CN account to my NNID, which I gladly did. That improved my currency to the exact 3.000 stars I needed for the MK8 soundtrack.
And now I'll wait patiently for announcements on the new service, just so I can rant about it unreasonably.
Re: Video: This Splatoon Glitch Makes Rainmaker Very One-Sided on Hammerhead Bridge
A minor glitch, but as he said himself, a very unfair trick to use against the uninformed.
But, I always get a bit excited when there's an easily executable out-of-bounds glitch - it's a lot of fun to discover otherwise invisible details, and how far the map is actually constructed.
Re: Excellent Shovel Knight Sales Prove That Indie Games Sell Well On Nintendo, Says Capy's Nathan Vella
Re: Climate "Not Healthy" For Dedicated Handheld Games Consoles, Says Sony's Shuhei Yoshida
