Dragon Ball Z: Extreme Butoden is getting ever closer to its Western release, and Bandai Namco has announced a quirky social media campaign that's clearly taken some inspiration from Twitch Plays - it's going for 'Twitter Plays'.
As you can see in the trailer below you're supposed to sign-up on the official website and then hashtag your way to glory - the potential for timelines getting swamped is very real.
It's also worth reminding you that pre-ordering the title on the eShop - in Europe at least - gives you a 3DS HOME Theme and a copy of SNES title Super Butoden 2 right now; physical copy pre-orders will need to wait until the game lands. The retro download includes the Story Mode and World Tournament options but not local multiplayer, while it appears to be in the original Japanese language; that'll help in the Story Mode!
The press release for this also specifies the New Nintendo 3DS as supporting the original SNES cheat codes, too.
Are you planning to pre-order this on the eShop for early extras, or to annoy your Twitter followers with the hashtag campaign? Let us know.

I pre-ordered this on Amazon NA and got the SNES code as well. Been playing the demo. The game is awesome but they really should've taken the time to add the American VO. God, the Japanese voices do a lot of screeching. It hurts my ears. Vegeta's NA voice is spot on with the character. I'm gonna miss that. Anyway, can't accommodate this little Twitter fest. I shall wait impatiently for release.
Getting this game for my birthday hopefully. I loved the demo.
I still wanna preorder, but I'm afraid I can't afford it. A shame, really, since this seems to be the first well-balanced Dragon Ball fighter in a very long time (thanks to Arc System Works, though).
I have a pre-order out, but I'm not sure I'll get any of the extra's. Never mind though, I'd rather save money with a cheap pre-order than pay a good amount more for the extra's at a retailer that does offer them.
@Gen0neD
Nah, japanese Vegeta is better. He's also that guy was he called Dunban in Xenoblade Chronicles.
I would get this but the game feels a bit too boring judging from the demo. I'm not into complicated fighters, but this one doesn't feel like it has any depth or reward to it either. It's just button mashing to get the exact same predetermined combos.
Apparently North America isn't getting the SNES game... that's a shame.
Still, the demo was pretty fun.
Oh, and #thisisn'tevenmyfinalform
@DarthNocturnal You can get the SNES game from Amazon(some exclusive retailer deal I believe)
www.amazon.ca/Dragon-Ball-Extreme-Butoden-Nintendo/dp/B00X8X082G
@SuperWiiU
Wow... Amazon.ca having a preorder incentive? Rare.
Is the game exclusive to preorders, or will it be puchaseable on the eShop at some point?
@Luffymcduck DBZ is the ONLY anime that I prefer the NA vo for. Anything else, Japanese all the way. It's like watching Crouching Tiger with American voice overs. The atmosphere is lost with English dub. Listening to the Cantonese and reading the subtitles makes me feel like I'm in a different world. It's the exact opposite with DBZ for me for some reason. Some atmosphere is lost in translation. Plus, I really wanna hear," Final FLASH!!!" Kills me every time.
I REALLY wish the SNES game was a NA incentive too...I REALLY want this game, but no Online battles is uncalled for, when it was possible for SSF4 to have it, which was a 3DS launch game. And that was $10 in a sale, and I think $20ish regularly priced. Bump it down to $10-$20 and I'll very happily bite, as it really reminds me of a lot of Neo Geo games, in graphics and gameplay, to an extent.
@EmmatheBest Just preorder it from Amazon NA and you'll get the SNES code when it releases. It's an Amazon incentive
@Gen0neD
I can't stand Japanese Voice overs in general, DBZ's for example make my ears bleed, especially goku....Aside from throwing in funi's voice actors, it would of been amazing had they included bruce faulconers music in the game as well.
@Gen0neD
I think it's because DBZ actually has a splash of western thrown into it, especially the later seasons. the funi/faulconer dub injects so much atmosphere, power, heart and emotion into the show, basically sending you into a different dimension....which the original JAP version for me personally fails to do. KAI was also pretty lifeless imo, the voice acting felt overexplanitory at times, forced, phoned in, always as if the characters were reading from a script trying pronounce every single word correctly.
@WaveGhoul Agreed on the music. It makes me bite my nails.
I nearly thought that this meant that SNES games were announced for 3DS virtual console. Dam!
@SuperWiiU I believe thats just for amazon.com rather then then amazon.ca as .com is the only one with the description specifically saying the preorder bonus whereas .ca only has a picture showing it likely being a copy paste thing
I hope im wrong though id really like to get a code from .ca instead of shipping from across payimg more
@Gen0neD
Well it's very common that people watch every anime other than DBZ in japanese. Most people seem to hate Goku's japanese voice because she was voiced by a woman but if there's one voice in the english dub I just can't stand, it's Fat Buu.
Everyone just likes what they're already used to. The Japanese voices are fine, and this game's music isn't even like the original OST, which often works better than the Faulconer stuff. I like that stuff, too; I'm not really an elitist.
