Re: Rumour: Fresh Sources Suggest Shovel Knight Is Indeed Digging His Way To Super Smash Bros.

Kaze_Memaryu

@NintendoFan64 What's wrong about expecting Nintendo to continue the ir context approach from every previous Smash game? The whole "kid playing with his toys" them just got instantly dropped, turning a neat fantasy escalation into a suspension of disbelief marathon. I don't care how few people cared about Brawl's Story Mode, it was a very good approach at actually establishing a universe - and now it's "whatever, throw in everything".
As for the clones, nothing excuses clones. It doesn't matter what they were originally intended for, they're still clones, or in other words, superficial laziness.
I didn't mention the stages simply because I forgot to write anything, and they're basically the only thing that actually works in favor of expanding the content.
In regards to Game Modes: yes, they work around the Smash formula, but nothing is actually dedicated towards anything. None of these alternate modes change your general combat approach. It's just different frames for the same picture. But both Brawl and Melee broke the general core with the Story/Adventure Mode, which involved progressive levels with platforming, light puzzles, and secrets to discover. That doesn't exist in Smash 4. Nothing even comparably complex, it's all just surface-level gatherings.
The music also doesn't speak for content, either. Bayonetta 2 has a humongous score, but that doesn't change that you can finish it in about 5-10 hours.
The challenges are mostly very easy to finish, so I don't see your point on that at all.
And even if you're going for 100%, Smash 4 still falls behind Brawl. Besides, trophies and music are mostly RNG-dependant, so no amount of skill guarantees anything.

@TeeJay Yes, how dare I say something negative about characters other people like?

@DarthNocturnal The Ballot itself imposed only one limation: one vote per mail address. Nothing else was specifically prohibited. People could vote for literally anything they wanted. Of course, Nintendo pointed out that they must look into what can be realized, but not every Smash fan has an idea of what is realistic and what isn't.

Re: Minecraft: Story Mode is Heading to Wii U

Kaze_Memaryu

I'll enjoy the sound of countless headcanons shattering.

But really, this kinda fails to make sense to me. The game is made for fans, with a lot of references to Minecraft itself. So, why release that on WiiU, but not the main game itself? Or is Minecraft's "Classic Mode" included in this?
Also, why a story for something as simplistic and random as Minecraft? Doesn't Telltale Games have better stories to tell?

Re: Rumour: Fresh Sources Suggest Shovel Knight Is Indeed Digging His Way To Super Smash Bros.

Kaze_Memaryu

@MoonKnight7 @NintendoFan64 @mariovslink62 Yeah, 51 characters, none of which have any context whatsoever, instead just being there for the hell of it, while also having several clones among them. And a boatload of music, more half of which is ripped straight from other games, while the rest is half-baked remixes and at least 20 different iterations of the same horrible Smash 4 leitmotif without any creativity whatsoever. And Game Modes that all change nothing about the gameplay, instead just slightly altering the concept behind the whole franchise. Maaaan, so much content... that is fully explored after about 3 hours, 4 if you're really taking it slow.

@DarthNocturnal As for the Ballot, I don't care which character, it's never a good idea to ask fans what they want in a game without any kind of limitation, and without any idea what would actually make sense. Even if Shovel Knight isn't a Ballot pick, he's a strong sign that Smash is starting to degenerate into a promotion platform (see Ryu/Pacman/MegaMan/Snake/Sonic).
As for content, see above response.
As for Playstation Allstars: yeah that game had even less content, but that doesn't make Smash 4 any bigger.
And in regards to Golden Sun: need I remind you that Captain Falcon is on an even longer hiatus than that, since F-Zero GX was released even before GS:DD? Or that Ice Climbers were in Brawl despite only having one freaking game in their entire history - in the 80's?Or that Marth and Roy were kept in Melee despite Fire Emblem having remained japan-only until shortly thereafter? Or that they still acknowledge the Golden Sun franchise by including music from the game in Smash 4? Besides, it's just an example to show how easy it is to keep the roster closer to Nintendo - Shovel Knight is a far cry from "close" to Nintendo, even moreso than the other immigrant characters in the game.

Re: Rumour: Fresh Sources Suggest Shovel Knight Is Indeed Digging His Way To Super Smash Bros.

Kaze_Memaryu

Freakin' hell, this is a nightmare! As if Smash 4 wasn't already crippled enough from the lack of content - now we get characters thrown in out of goddamn nowhere?! Ugh, I knew it was a bad idea to let fans make decisions, but the Ballot has just reached a completely new height of pretentiousness.

@sWiTcHeRoO I fully agree with you. It just comes off as unfair in regards to several Nintendo franchises that find general mention in Smash (especially Golden Sun), but then Shovel Knight gets a chance because of a popularity poll that never considers if he actually has any connection to Nintendo in particular (which he doesn't).

Re: Review: Devil's Third (Wii U)

Kaze_Memaryu

Well, that settles it, I'm not getting Devil's Third. I always play through singleplayer befor going online to make sure I understand the game (I just hate people who storm the multiplayer without ever looking at even the most basic controls), but this sounds too painful to play. It's nice that the singleplayer at least isn't short, but a lengthy campaign becomes even worse when the performance is that awful.

Re: Talking Point: The Argument For And Against amiibo-Cloning Tool Amiiqo

Kaze_Memaryu

This is one of these things where there's absolutely no universal answer to the issue.
On one hand, amiiqo is pretty useful for being able to create backups of your amiibo data when you want to experiment a bit without having to delete what's currently on there, and also not feeling forced to buy a second amiibo to use another games' features. I respect that, and I support that cause since Nintendo won't allow us something that simple.
But on the other hand, exchanging, cloning, and manipulating amiibo data is just plain cheap. Yes, amiibo shortages are still present (as I found out a bit late due to my german ignorance), and many people are annoyed by Nintendo's ongoing inability to fix these issues. But at the same time, this completely crosses the line. So far, all amiibo features are purely optional, but bound to the ownership of that figure, so statements like "the figures suck, but I want the content" or "too expensive" are fine examples of hypocrisy. Sorry folks, but it's pretty obvious that you're not supposed to have that content without an amiibo, so using the lack of access as an excuse to get something you're never required to have to enjoy the game is just lousy.
That's pretty much like saying "I hate DLC, but I want it", and then turning on your PC to download it for free. No purchase, no content.
And then there's the theory that games could've used amiibo in the future to copy "guest profiles" to use on a friends' console to use in multiplayer ways, which would get reduced to everyone just downloading the best profile from the internet and then using that, effectively eliminating the point behind that functionality. Of course no game has that, but amiiqo, if proving popular enough, might also shy developers away from entering the amiibo business, or coming up with new ideas to use them.

Like it or not, the price of accessing amiibo-exclusive features is simply to own the corresponding amiibo figure. And you really need to rethink your priorities if you think your own impatience justifies theft, because that's not how it works. Yeah, Nintendo brought this upon themselves with their lack of planning, but that doesn't make cloning amiibos okay in any sort of fashion.

Re: Future Of Trine Series In Doubt Following Negative Reaction To Third Outing

Kaze_Memaryu

Trine 3 has several issues that were brought to the game especially by the bad depth perception given to players from the entirely fixed camera. If they had kept it on a 2D plane like the previous entries did, most of these issues wouldn't exist, and others could've been more easily noticed during testing.
This is a good example of a dev team with great ideas who gets too used to mechanics and systems to notice potential issues for players. I dunno how the whole thing was developed, and why the issues with the 3D environment weren't brought to attention during the early access timespan, but at some point, a developer needs to relearn how to be part of his own audience instead of just the deliverer of what the audience wants.

@Cyber-BLP-- This can happen to the best. Try to ignore the thoughts of failure, and believe in your project - but be realistic about yourself. As long as you can imagine people other than yourself having fun with your game, it's cool.

Re: Nintendo Download: 27th August (Europe)

Kaze_Memaryu

Senran Kagura 2 should arrive in my mail very soon (though the price point kinda hurt, due to heavy taxing), and I 100% BURST recently, so the Murasame DLC will be welcomed with open arms!

@vitalemrecords Oi, don't compare this to MadWorld! MadWorld was flawed, but stylish as all hell, and had some of the coolest voice acting they could've possibly gotten!

Re: New Style Boutique 2 Will Strut Its Stuff in Europe on 20th November

Kaze_Memaryu

The pevious game was surprisingly good, considering how many fashion-themed games are shovelware bait for young girls. But I don't know if I'm gonna get this, unless male fashion gets somewhat expanded (the last game had a very small and boring section for that). The amiibo stuff is a neat idea, but hopefully, you can get the stuff in other peoples' boutique, either way.

Re: Gallery: More Details, Characters and Artwork Unleashed for Project X Zone 2

Kaze_Memaryu

@readyletsgo Ypu should give the two demo versions a try, then. They've been available for a while, and show you basically everything the game has to offer, except it has way more characters.
But really, the first game was kinda meh. The combat system is fun, but never expands in any meaningful way, the story is just confusing (but not in a "mind=blown" sense), and at some point, the game just throws legion after legion of ever-repeating enemies at you, ramping up the playtime per chapter close to 40 minutes.
Also, you can effectively screw yourself over by using certain characters too much, as there are various chapters that split up your party, potentially leaving you with only your weakest members, and you cannot train or grind at any point in the game except by progressing the story.

Re: Potential Massacre Averted At Pokémon World Championships

Kaze_Memaryu

I'm still interested in the reasons that drove them to these extremes. This is neither normal nor aggressive behaviour, this goes far beyond what is even remotely reasonable. Unfortunately, this will most likely get undermined by rabid news outlets pointing fingers at everything except the actual issue(s).

@HollywoodHogan The internet hates America, and even then, it's more of an escalated joke than genuine hatred. I myself like to make fun about "MURICA", but I still know that it's just cherry-picking the extremes rather than the whole country acting out of control. But it paints a very bleak picture when regular people are more embarrassed about bad examples than they are proud of great achievements.

@JaxonH This right here, people! Nuff said!

Re: Talking Point: Pokkén Tournament May Not Be a Wii U Saviour, But It Can Provide a Welcome Boost

Kaze_Memaryu

I'm not sure if it will sell well, but I'm fairly certain this is gonna be a similar case to Hyrule Warriors. It's going to sell well enough, but not outstandingly well, and while it will have a small following, most people will quickly get bored of it and sell or stuff it away after short amount of time.

Hell, I'd say if this game was more than shallow fanservice, it would actually garner more attention. But except for the characters' appearance, nothing about this game has anything to do with Pokémon at all, which I as a huge Pokémon fan find very lazy. Exchange the Pokés with human characters, (or Naruto characters, if you want it really easy) and it would still fit. That's bad design for you.
Additionally, this game already failed in what it's trying to be: a fighter. It's unbalanced, repetitive, and spam-heavy, almost Hisouten (a Touhou fighter with heavy focus on prohectiles) levels of spam-heavy.

@rjejr See PS4 for a counterexample. 400$ launch price, never officially reduced, still doing well after about 2 years.
Nintendo doesn't need a price cut, they need games that actually raise massive attention. The one slim chance they have is Zelda, but with the heavy delay, even that is questionable. And even then, they still have a good chance to miss the marketing part yetvagain.

Re: New Patent Sparks Talk of Potential NX Details

Kaze_Memaryu

Hm, doesn't sound like the full console, but more like a beefed-up GamePad that can be used as an independent unit. Which is what I though the GamePad itself would be until I looked up how it actually worked.
This strongly hints at the new peripheral being capable of running smaller download games on its own, while bigger games still get streamed from the main console to the TV and peripheral simultaneously - or, like the WiiU does, streams a separate image feed to the peripheral.

All in all, that actually sounds somewhat promising. I must say I'm positively surprised. Still not getting it, though...

Re: Luigi Diorama and Legend of Zelda Carry Case Return to Club Nintendo

Kaze_Memaryu

Why does NoE suddenly throw all this stuff at us after starting the whole "CN will close soon, better trade your stars" panic?! Are they really expecting that many players keeping their stars for this stuff? I tried my best to hold all my stars together, but thanks to all CN codes inexplicably expiring at the end of March or April (can't remember right now), even my latest codes are completely worthless!

Re: Video: Metroid in Unreal Engine 4 is Shiny and Slightly Strange

Kaze_Memaryu

Premade UE assets? Nothing new. Using advanced lighting mechanics as a distraction from the rest being incredibly outdated and stiff? Par for the course. Using a Nintendo character for absolutely no reason other than "this is how it would look if Nintendo did HD gaming" throwdowns? Yep, he sure nailed the theme.

Using the awful Other M model for a Metroid showoff? Inexcusable! Not canon, not cool, instant failure! BAM!

Re: Collectors Rejoice, Rare amiibo Figures Are Getting Restocked

Kaze_Memaryu

@shani I already mentioned that the Splatoon Triple Pack is an exception, in that it's very hard to get for a reasonable price. As for Yarn Yoshis, I found a few green ones at a Media Markt nearby, and all color variations at Müller. I'm not looking for amiibos online, since it's more reliable to see what you get in stores, and I save myself delivery costs.

Re: Pokémon Brawler Pokkén Tournament Coming To Wii U Early Next Year

Kaze_Memaryu

@DarthNocturnal That'd require a truckload of fixing, honestly. Also, the game is already out in arcades, loketests apparently went through internally for the most part - at least I can hardly find any information regarding loketests. And seeing how NamcoBandai hardly bothered fixing balancing issues in most of their previous fighting games (both arcade and home releases), I'm not gonna get my hopes up.

Re: Pokémon Brawler Pokkén Tournament Coming To Wii U Early Next Year

Kaze_Memaryu

Urk, I feared this woul happen....
I informed myself about this game, and what I found out isn't surprising at all, but still worrying. According to several arcade players, the balancing is all over the place, but definitely not fair at all. Too many matches can be won effortlessly with projectile spam, i-frames are unnecessarily long for some characters, and the controls are mediocre, at best.

By now, I'm convinced that this is just a cheap Naruto Ninja Storm reskin, because I know these very issues from those horrible games, which means this game has lost all potenrial value to me. NamcoBandai once again proved that the best they can accomplish is cashing in on fanservice...

Re: Collectors Rejoice, Rare amiibo Figures Are Getting Restocked

Kaze_Memaryu

@Sanicranfast @Grumblevolcano @Splatburst @MailOrderNinja @Mus1cLov3r @russellohh @JaxonH @TheRedCap30 Considering all the responses, scalping might actually still be a lucrative market. I can get basically every amiibo except Gold/Silver Mario without effort for standard price, and in good quantity. Welp, time for an ebay account, I guess...

Re: Collectors Rejoice, Rare amiibo Figures Are Getting Restocked

Kaze_Memaryu

Seriously? Those are still considered rare? I mean, the Splatoon Triple pack definitely isn't common, but literally every other amiibo is regularly available at stock price. The stock issues are resolved, and the nearby electronics store even has "rarities" like Shulk, Lucina, Robin, and Bowser Jr. available.
Or is it really that much worse outside of Germany?

Re: WayForward May Be Teasing a New Mighty Switch Force Title

Kaze_Memaryu

Right now, I'm imagining the Hooligan Sisters in school outfits... and that thought alone is enough to sell me on whatever this is.
However, I kinda can't shake the feeling that this is more like an internship project or a visitor day of sorts that is themed around Mighty Switch Force, and possibly involves assisting in creating content for a new entry. Just a hunch, though...

Re: Pokkén Tournament Trademark Surfaces In Europe, NFC Connectivity Mentioned

Kaze_Memaryu

@arnoldlayne83 That's doubtful and likely at the same time. They already have the Pokémon TCG, and expanding it with NFC cards is definitely possible. The problem, however, would be production costs. Adding an NFC chip to a card is still expensive, if the Animal Crossing card pack prices are any indication.
I'll assume they're going to produce keychains and cards for the character roster at first (and maybe actual amiibo figures), and then expand across the more "presentable" Pokés from there, but who knows...

Re: Pokkén Tournament Trademark Surfaces In Europe, NFC Connectivity Mentioned

Kaze_Memaryu

Europe hardly ever had much sympathy for arcades. There was a small boost during the big fighting game breakthrough in the mid-90's, but most machines were in amusement parks. No arcade stores, for the most part.
So, with that in mind, it's unlikely that anyone would take such a huge risk. This almost confirms a WiiU release - and possibly, an amiibo range (cause we don't have enough amiibos yet).

Re: Chasing Dead To Bring Horror And FPS Action To The Wii U eShop Soon

Kaze_Memaryu

@DarthNocturnal Bioshock does have an eerie vibe to it (well, Infinte kinda ditches that early on) that works very well with the abandoned state of the environment to evoke a feeling of isolation. It's just that you're supposed to fight at almost all times, and you get supernatural powers very early, so it never feels like you're at the verge of death.
That doesn't impact the quality at all, though - it's still one of the more creative FPS games out there, and has a very good story to boot.

Re: Chasing Dead To Bring Horror And FPS Action To The Wii U eShop Soon

Kaze_Memaryu

@SetupDisk Depends on the kinds of guns. A good horror game either uses guns as you described it, or not at all - maybe even as a red herring to give you false sense of security. But bad horror games give you the ability to defeat the source of the "horror" easily, like F.E.A.R. did from 2 onward, or Resident Evil 5 and 6. Feeling weak is an integral component of fear, so seeing a screenshot of pointing a shotgun of all things at a monster doesn't give me a positive first idea of what kind of horror game this wants to be.

@DarthNocturnal Would you actually consider Bioshock a horror game? It was a survival game, yes, but if that's horror, people really became wusses over the last years...

@Aneira I wouldn't go that far, but yes, working with a flashlight to limit your field of view definitely amplifies the horror atmosphere.

Re: Video: PBS Game/Show Gets Into Questions of Ecology for Pokémon's Growing Pokédex

Kaze_Memaryu

Ehhh, wasted effort. Pokémon is meant to be a fantasy-shaped imitation of our world and its aspects. That obviously includes parts of the ecosystem and the natural life-cycle. Trying to explain something in more detail than its very concept is based on is pretty pointless.
But Pokémon tries to keep it simple. Berries grow with just water and time in a matter of few days, every Pokémon eats berries (even inorganic ones or predatorial designs), and breeding is a mysterious case of "poof, there's the egg, don't ask for details".
GameFreak tries to give most Pokés a logical reason to exist in some sort of fashion, but they're not only sloppy about that in several cases, they also don't really go very far with their explanations, something I see as an immense waste of potential. The current Pokémon lore is mostly generic and random, and also influenced by the incompetence team called 4Kids Entertainment.

That said, I think there can never be enough Pokémon overall, but the pacing has to be just right. If Pokémon managed to pull off yearly installments with several new Pokés per game, fans would be overwhelmed quickly. But if new designs were to faar in between, people would lose interest too soon, either. In that sense, I think GameFreak acutally managed to nail the timing, even if that's the only thing they manage to nail nowadays.

Re: Hands On: Devil's Third - Sampling Online Chaos and Fearing the Devilry of Microtransactions

Kaze_Memaryu

@ULTRA-64 I'm not talking about length alone. What was shown from Devil's Third in terms of singleplayer content looked vastly unpolished, and several complaints were raised against the stiff and unintuitive controls.
Splatoon might have an insultingly short singleplayer campaign, but at least it's rock-solid in terms of playability.
Nonetheless, I do hate what Splatoon turned out to be. I'm having fun in multiplayer, but that's it. Despite the virtually unlimited possibilities of expanding the singleplayer with very few workhour requirements, the multiplayer is the sole focus, and I'm always furious about it, even when I like the new multiplayer content. That's why I keep my opinion and my critical view strictly separate - personally, I love yet hate Splatoon, but critically speaking, I'm flat-out underwhelmed.

Re: Nintendo Removes Ironfall Invasion From 3DS eShop Ahead Of Ironhax Exploit Release

Kaze_Memaryu

Eh, YouTube is Plan B. Which means that garbage program finally has a use.

@JLPick Hahahaha! You actually buy that? The constant whining from media companies often stems from overly exaggerated "theoretical losses" - they just assume that x percent of people pirate their stuff without any base to their numbers. I don't mean to defend piracy at all, but not only are company losses miniscule, at best, they also put up a drama show of highest calibers to draw people to their side.
Also, this hack does in fact NOT allow pirated 3DS games to work, it merely allows circumventing the region-lock and allows Homebrews, so the furthest people can go with this hack alone is emulators for systems that are LONG out of commission, which is a questionable loss, in all honesty.

Re: Exclusive: MercurySteam Has Been Working On A Metroid Prototype For Wii U And 3DS

Kaze_Memaryu

I'm not sure what to think of this.
By now, I'm very certain that the horrible mess that was Lords of Shadow 2 was mostly Konami's attempt at turning Castlevania into something it never should've been - the first LoS, while also being violently unfitting in design, at least had a somewhat interesting approach and good gameplay nonetheless.
However, I have no idea what MercurySteam is capable of on their own or with Nintendo, and I'm not sure if I wanna see a Metroid game from them - the whole "several bounty hunters" idea was already badly executed in Prime Hunters.

Re: Chris Prangar, Nintendo Treehouse Staffer Who Recently Spoke About His Work, Confirms He's Been Fired

Kaze_Memaryu

@manu0 No, not a single time. He questioned popular negative points, and did so in a very passive manner. He didn't point fingers at people and said "I heard that, here's why what you say is wrong", he always pointed out criticism in a non-specific way and tried to avert the validity with either long-winded excuses, or by sugarcoating issues pointed out by consumers.

@DiscoGentleman I don't see how I'm overexamining it. It's a simple matter of avoiding conflict with consumers. Prangar was practically asking for conflict by telling consumers that their demand of niche titles was wrong and unrealistic. Something that'd raise a lot of discussions if it had become more widely public than it did.
Of course that doesn't have to be the reason he got fired, but I'm pretty sure it contributed towards it.
That said, nobody can truly say why Prangar was fired, and it's none of our business, either way.

@Bagels I second that!

Re: Chris Prangar, Nintendo Treehouse Staffer Who Recently Spoke About His Work, Confirms He's Been Fired

Kaze_Memaryu

I'm pretty sure it was his consumer-critical stance that got him fired. He didn't talk about anything internal that wasn't already known to the public, but he criticized consumers, even if he (kinda) had a point.
Nintendo probably doesn't want public faces who argue with their own fanbase, so he had to go. Not the nicest treatment, but you can't just risk your employers' reputation like that, as small as the impact may have been.
