You'd be forgiven for forgetting about Puzzle & Dragons Z + Puzzle & Dragons: Super Mario Bros. Edition. Though we thought it was rather good, the relatively obscure puzzle title released somewhat stealthily in May and failed to make as much of an impact on Western audiences as Nintendo hoped. Evidently in an effort to spread the word about the game, GungHo Online Entertainment just announced an international competition for North America.
To enter, participants must attain a "C" rank or higher in the score attack hard mode, then send in a picture of themselves holding the 3DS displaying their score, with their name, friend ID, and the date also displayed. The top twelve entrants will be flown out to California for the next round and the top four from there will be sent to Japan for the finals. The winners will win "fantastic prizes", so if that sounds pretty good to you, then you can find more details and submit your score here.
What do you think? Do you have what it takes to make it to Japan? What did you think of Puzzle & Dragons Z + Puzzle & Dragons: Super Mario Bros. Edition? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

Sounds pretty cool for North Americans.
I... what? I don't even know what to say, except that the effort behind this tournament seems way out of proportion compared to the popularity of the game.
Hmmm I might give this a try. 100% won't win, but worth a try.
As a puzzler myself, I ask...
Why this, and not Tetris Attack?
Loved what little I've played of the game — then my save files for every 3DS game I downloaded digitally (including Puzzles and Dragons) got corrupted and I haven't touched it since. Still, this is pretty cool, especially considering that the game isn't popular at all.
I briefly played Puzzle and Dragons on my phone, and then nearly broke it when I ran into a cooldown timer and the option to bypass it with money. I bought the Super Mario Edition and I've been really enjoying it, and spending all my time on the Mario levels. Never once went back to the Puzzle and Dragon levels.
