Splatoon is a game that can get fiercely competitive for those who are willing to put in the time and effort. Once you start getting into the upper limits of the Ranked Battle mode, you'll find that competitors wear very particular gear with very particular stats. Surprisingly enough, there's a deep system behind the gear of Splatoon, with gear having better or worse chances of receiving a particular perk due to its brand and type.
In order to give players a bit more peace of mind when it comes to managing Inklings, Nintendo has recently translated a site called "SplatNet" which will help players keep track of the goings-on in Splatoon. Previously only in Japanese, this site allows you to do things like seeing what stages are scheduled for the rest of the day, how you stack up next to your friends in rank, and what gear you have currently equipped. Here's the tweet Nintendo recently posted announcing it:
What do you think? Will you make use of this new resource? What rank are you right now in Splatoon? Drop us a comment in the section below.

bit barren if you have no friends with splatoon, when i get some il check it out again
Actually if you are already logged into Miiverse, you don't need to login into Splatnet as your profile pops up automatically .
(Probably the other way too at least in the PC version).
@davetheshrew Check the Splatoon thread on the forum,we regularly play squads and private battles with each other.The community here for this game is fantastic,it's made this great game even more special for me.
Never heard of this thing - don't think I'll need it. Kudos to those who do find it useful/a nice little addition though.
I'd love to know what's considered BIS for each weapon, best build for each stage etc but don't see anything like that on the internets yet.
I don't have such an active friend list, but I like the fact that I can anticipate what's next.
@Fandabidozi I just recently watched a nine minute video explaining the depths of Splatoon's gear system and it blew my mind. It reminds me of Pokemon, in a sense. Something that looks fairly simple on the surface actually has a significant amount of strategy to it if you dig a little deeper.
Huh, doesn't show much as I've not played Splatoon since I think the last EU splatfest. The reason? Everyone is too frickin' good nowadays! Only the real hard core inklings are still playing now and it's too frustrating to play against all these ace players.
Nice, so my request was fulfilled.
@MitchVogel: Yeah it's really huge! I just found out a few days ago that the brands also do have an effect on the ability probability and been reading about and testing the precise effects of the abilities.
@Rhydas: Actually it's very useful. Not only can you see which maps and modes will be played in the next 12 hours, you also can also compare your weekly stats with those of your friends, see their gear and level and besides also see how much ink you've covered with each of your weapons.
Awesome, I've been waiting for the English version to come up since they put up the Japanese website!
Nice!
@Quirky
What rank are you?
I ask because Splatoon should be grouping you with people your rank if you play ranked battles.
Cool. Nice to be able to check on the courses.
Where is the win rate? I'm level 24 btw.
Nice to finally get this page in English! Surprised to see how one-sided my weapon choices are, in terms of turf count. I need to improve on that part.
Oh win rate gets reset. Good app.
@pherret022 B+ and level 39. Actually Ranked mode is not too bad, maybe a bit intense. Skill-wise it seems fairly even as long as I stick to something effective like the 96 gal. I dropped from B back to C trying out the sniper weapons, never again!
The worst is Turf War, it seems to have odd pooling/ranking. The games are often spawn-point lock-ins with 70-10 victories. Checking the recent inklings afterwards in the plaza they are frequently A+, S or S+ players. My theory is that all the Bs are playing Ranked to rank up, and a lot of A++ are playing Turf Wars to not lose their rank.
Anyway, I get too salty playing therefore I think I've kind of mentally banned myself from Splatoon for my own good
@Quirky
Then I can see where you are coming from. Sometimes Turf War is okay for me, but other times, as you said, there will A and S Ranked in the match that just kill all of us B Ranked Players. I was a B+ at one point, but then fell down to B- because I played Squads with one of my C Ranked friends.
Mr. Grumpy aka @rjejr will be 1% less grumpy after reading this. But he will still complain for the time taken for translation.
Would like this as a phone app though.
@sinalefa Appreciate the Mr before the grumpy. spoonytech let me know last night. And yeah, as simple as it is it did take way too long, but it's great that it's here. And funny you should mention phone app - now who's grumpy? - b/c that's what I thought when I saw the pic, they turned this into an app. Not that it really needs to be, but we are an app obsessed world, if this were an app I'd be using it a lot just to check the mode and stages, I've decided I only like rainmaker on Camp Triggerfish. Will be bookmarked though, and checked regularly.
@Quirky Turf War is also a place to fill slots on new gear. I've seen lots of level 45+ with empty gear slots in Turf War.
If you get a couple of bad losses in Turf War, try exiting the lobby and rejoin a new lobby. That might join you with players a different playing style (Turf War matchmaking is based on playing style) and/or a different skills.
@rjejr
I am not grumpy, I am not writing lots of long comments complaning how "Nintneod" is backwards and does not do the apps that all cool kids (and squids) like to check nowadays, not even after that partnership with DeNa that so far has given us nothing.
Anyway, I am loving this as now I will know what stages and modes are available by the time I get home, so I can go directly to Mario Maker if the combination is not favorable.
I like the stage and rank mode forecast. Now, if they would retire rainmaker - the worse mode. I mean, it's cool in theory, but with no way to communicate to coordinate a strategy it quickly turns into a mess maybe 70% of the time. Splatzones and tower control work just fine without voicechat but it's sorely missing in rainmaker. I don't know how many times I've cleared a path and kept the enemy at bay only to look at the gamepad and see my team mate with the rainmaker back pedal and decide to pursue some asinine route. I'm like, "Nooo!, I just knocked out three enemies - the path is clear!" No matter how many times I spam the C'mon! button. Usually by the time they figure it out, the enemy has re spawned and I'm caught with my pants down because I've been staring at the gamepad trying to figure where the hell my team mate went....sorry to vent.
@rjejr @sinalefa Wait, I need me some popcorn and Mountain Dew before this continues!
@Spoony_Tech "popcorn and Mountain Dew"
If that's your breakfast I don't even want to know what you have for dinner.
@rjejr Yeah, you don't want to know. Well if this show is over might as well take a nap.
I was wondering if this would get translated. I'll let my friend know and we'll check it out later. S Rank, by the way.
@Spoony_Tech Oh yeah, I was going to tell you, Sin and I aren't going to get into it, he knows I'm a cranky old curmudgeon.
Well it's about time. This site has been live in Japan for at least a couple months. I fail to understand how it took so long to translate it, and that's even coming from a Graphic Designer's viewpoint.
Sounds nice, but I don't know if I'll find much use out of this. I'm not all that competitive, despite my obsession with proper balancing. Besides, most friends who wanted to play Splatoon with me already gave up on it some time ago...
@rjejr Let me take this one more step. How about turning this into an app with a built in chat since the game doesn't do it? That would be awesome.
I've yet to play with anyone from Nintendolife. Do you guys get on daily? Do you guys do any separate chat service or just join up for chat-free matches?
The Monster hunter crew helped me early on in a few hunts.
@dkxcalibur That would be awesome, but since it took them a month or more to translate a simple web page from Japanese to Englsih I'm guessing a good 30 to 50 years for them to figure out how to make a voice enabled app. The app itself should be relativley easy, the guys over at DeNA could probably app-i-fy it the webpage in a day, but for the app to figure who which other 3 people you are playing w/ - sometimes that happens really fast - and then hook you up w/ those 3 people for voice chat, sounds complicated to me, unless Nintneod somehow ported over the in game code or something.
But I don know anything about coding, so maybe voice is doable?
sonic lost world coming to steam on the 6th of november.
I see so much potential. But no use for me. Nobody of my friends has a wii u.
The odd thing with this translations is I think the either the rank system has changed or is not translated properly as the formula in Japan was winsxrate (% as two decimal points)x10 while here the x10 is missing. Considering one of the my friends has a rank of 5 that suggests 1x0.5x10.
It also says it resets midnight Sunday but that is probably Japan time as I didn't play enough on Monday to get 168 points.
Checking right now I see why its translation was postponed. Poor Splatnet has a 500 server error
is not working for me .... o is it down already??
@OniLink Same won't load for me either. I tried logging into miiverse 1st then went to back and its blank now :c
It's a dud, it's not working.
@OorWullie What thread?
@Nin98 https://www.nintendolife.com/forums/wii-u/splatoon?start=7560
@Spoony_Tech In response to a question you asked me a couple of weeks ago - I haven't watched The Muppets yet but I just watched the 11 minute trailer and it was fantastic. I hope if you've seen it that it wasn't too offensive for you and your family, at least one curse and a couple of innuendo moments had me wincing on your behalf. Besides that though it was just one great old school joke after another. I hope they can at least keep it half that funny for the real show. I think I might need to find all the originals now, and finally watch the movies.
Edit - watched the first episode, only about 1/4 as good as the trailer, and they even made the same good jokes not good. Hopefully it gets better. Mostly I miss Fozzie's original girlfriend though, she was beautiful. Time for baseball.
@rjejr Yeah I cringed a few times as well as my daughter and I watched it. Not sure if I really need to watch it tbh.
Can't believe you haven't seen most of the originals. I liked their humor much better. For me the only movie worth watching was the original. As a whole the original show was good but the movies as a whole were a disappointment.
