Re: Feature: Nintendo Life eShop Selects (August 2025)

Jack_Goetz

As much as I enjoy this particular monthly feature, it sure does feel like it comes around faster each time.

I only picked up UFO 50 this month, which I've only managed to put a few hours into so far. However, I'll be travelling with my Switch Lite over the next few weeks (no way I'm carrying the S2 around), which I think UFO 50 will be the perfect fit for.

Re: Former PlayStation Head Praises Nintendo For Being "In Touch With Their Fan Base"

You're right, it was plans for Metroid Prime 4 that were floated in 2015, my mistake. But seeing as a game that came out on August 2016 can be classed as a 2015 era game in your opinion, I think we can let that one slide.

Releasing a Mario Kart (that's been sat on for two years) is hardly being in touch with fans though is it? It's a series for everyone. I'd argue that some of Nintendo's more niche releases are actually trying to appeal to the fan base, as it shows it's not just going after massive sales numbers.

Fans have been after a more powerful Switch for years now, and what they've ended up with a console that's still struggling to run last generation games, for a premium price. So Nintendo's really been paying attention to what fans want, right? Maybe if it had released the S2 as the Switch Pro when it was originally planned for release it'd be a different story.

Perspective? You're the one arguing that 2025 Nintendo is for the fans, which is outright nonsense and "I'm sure many online fans would disagree with you".

@HammerKirby Metroid Prime 4 was revealed that year too. So shall we add that to the list of things Nintendo did in 2015 that was in touch with its fans?

Releasing games from your most famous IPs doesn't make you more in touch with your fans necessarily, but it sure does please shareholders. Case in point (again) Mario Kart World. Used to sell overpriced hardware that can barely run third-party games at 30fps. Really in touch the fan base...

@HammerKirby I don't care whether 'fans online' from 2015 would have agreed with me or not. We still had Xenoblade Chronicles X and Splatoon, either of which I'd take over that overpriced, half-baked, poor excuse for a Mario Kart game we got this year. You really think that was being in touch with the fans? In fact, I'd take either over Bananza too. So what's your point?

2015 was still very much Iwata's Nintendo, where he at least tried to appease fans before shareholders, which is something post-Iwata Nintendo has failed to do.

Oh, and Federation Force was released in 2016.

Re: Opinion: Silksong's Big 'Anticlimactic' Premiere Was Absolutely Perfect

They didn't cave to any demands, which is commendable. Doing things on your own terms is how any art should be, if you're in a fortunate enough position to be able to do that.

The announcement of an announcement was obviously just to drum up a bit more attention than a shadow drop would. However, the release date announcement felt a bit anticlimactic, as we all knew it had to release sometime in the next few months anyway.

The best thing I can say about the game at this point though is that it just looks like more of the same. For better or worse, we'll soon see.

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Drag x Drive?

Jack_Goetz

The Big N is spamming the hell out of this game in the Nintendo Today app and NSO Rewards, so its clear it thought this game would be setting the world alight. But it's not taking off like Splatoon did, or even ARMS, and that must be quite a big a 'L' for Nintendo, as this was the game to sell the lacklustre mouse controls gimmick.

Re: Review: Drag x Drive (Switch 2) - A Real Baller With Friends, But Is There Enough To Do?

Jack_Goetz

The Global Jam was enough to deter me from buying the game. The controls were just too inconsistent in my experience. Having your arms at a perfect angle to avoid fatigue is another hurdle, when all you want to do is plonk yourself down on the sofa and relax.

Gavin is right, this should have been included as part of an NSO subscription. Charging for it is likely going to harm how long the lobbies are going to be active for. Hell, even F-Zero 99 is struggling to get more than 20 players in most races now.

Re: Could This Mysterious Super Mario 40th Anniversary X Account Be Legit?

Jack_Goetz

I doubt Nintendo owns the account, and it's more likely to be a chancer hoping for a quick pay day.

I've just realised that this site generally had more news that was actually related to games back in the Wii U-era. I'm sure a lot of that was down to Nintendo still supporting two systems at the time, but it's quite strange that the Switch 2 has only just been released and gaming news websites are hardly being given anything to report on Nintendo-wise. Obviously, this website has recently been doing more opinion pieces and talking points in the absence of actual gaming news.

I guess that says a lot about Nintendo having more control over its own news these days, with the few and far between major Directs and the Nintendo Today app.

Re: Nintendo's Share Price Is Now Double The Height Of The Wii Era

Jack_Goetz

Who knew Alarmo would be such a hit?

In all seriousness though, this isn't too surprising. Nintendo has been bowing to the shareholders a lot more since the post-Iwata/Switch-era. I'm honestly not such a fan of the overly corporate Nintendo we've been seeing recently, as it's seemed less about creativity and fans and more about keeping the shareholders happy.

Yes, every business is in it for the money, I just feel Nintendo has got the balance wrong in recent times.
