Screw it then. I'll stick with my Switch 1 copy that has the game on the cart. I'm not rebuying it again on a GameKey card just for 'enhanced graphics'.
And having just seen the size of SF6's download size, I'm suddenly not interested in picking it up digitally (or as a GameKey card). I really hope there's a proper physical version down the line, but this is Capcom and I'm in Europe...
Gonna have to start considering whether games are worth the money AND the space they take up now, especially if they're going to end up being archived/redownloaded to make space for other games.
F-Zero 99 is the reason my interest in the Mario Kart series has waned over the last couple of years. I can't imagine having as much fun with Mario Kart World as I have daily with this game. I didn't win any races for my first year of playing it, but since December I've raked up 16 wins. It's addictive.
"Some users*, however, are not completely convinced by the video, believing that the effects of the Boo item may have also assisted in avoiding the Blue Shell."
@The-Chosen-one Same. It was at the top of my wish list for the Switch 2 Direct. I'm so happy the World of Assassination trilogy is finally going to be playable on Nintendo hardware. Such a great reboot.
I find it amusing that Bowser recently said the price reflects the 'longevity' of the console. Like, how do they know how long it'll last for? We only got four years out of the Wii U before it was abandoned.
I think CD Projekt Red has been very smart here. It knew that it would be rewarded in sales for not going down this Game Key route. Especially as there's much less competition around in the launch window.
Nintendo used to be all about that almost child-like, fun element. Now they just seem like any other big company, nickle and diming you at every corner. Yes, I'm still a fan of Nintendo's IP, hence me being here, but the 'shine' seems to have gone from the company. For me, the decline started during the Switch-era, but with Switch 2 it's obvious that catering to the shareholders comes before the gamers/fans.
I very much doubt I'll bother to 'collect' for Switch 2 when I eventually get one, so at least that'll allow me to fill the gaps in collection of previous generations. I just don't feel the excitement this time around, and I'm sad to admit that.
The HD version is fine, but nowhere near enough of drastic improvement over the original to justify a separate purchase. The GC version on Switch 2, with it's upscaling and such will be more than sufficient.
Nintendo is hell bent on getting everyone onto NSO, so I expect we'll also get Twilight Princess further down the line too. Once everyone's hooked on the NSO Expansion, watch that subscription cost get a hike.
Right, so Nintendo seems to be confusing a lot of people in this comment section, people who are likely Nintendo diehards, more or less. How well is this going to translate to parents or casual gamers? This is yet another barrier.
@Abrammchi I feel totally the same. I think the reason is Iwata not being around. The Switch was his concept which is why it was fine, but obviously he wasn't around for it's release. Nintendo today though... Well, it's depressing to see what it's become.
This bodes well, but as mentioned that GC NSO app is going to get much bigger over time. Also, expect Mortal Kombat 1: Switch 2 Edition (if it happens) to be about 200GB. π
I'd be more inclined to stick with physical if those Switch 2 game boxes weren't so fugly. As it is, Nintendo pushing for us to move to digital, and it's doing it well, unfortunately.
We're not going to see any real indication of how well it's doing with casual consumers until after this Christmas at the earliest. After that I suspect things will start to slow down quite a bit more than they did for the OG Switch.
Over β¬500 in mainland Europe for the MKW digital bundle is not going to be popular.
I feel this is going to run into some of same issues as the Wii U did. Namely being more expensive for essentially better graphics. Most casual gamers and families don't care about that stuff, so paying a premium for similar game experiences, when the Switch already has such a massive library, isn't much of an incentive to upgrade.
Yes, it'll definitely have a bigger library than the Wii U did, but those price hikes across the board will be off-putting to most, even to some of us Nintendo 'diehards'.
Nintendo knows the Switch 2 isn't going to shift as many units at the original Switch, so the mark up on games is likely there to counteract fewer copies being sold, and yes, ultimately keeping the shareholders happy.
Like I've said elsewhere, I think I'll keep on collecting physical for Switch 1 and pay the extra for the Switch 2 features (if worthwhile). That way games like Metroid will still work on my OG Switch and Switch Lite. And now, it seems, I'll have the better box art too. Win-win.
@tdub154420 I have a similar feeling. That combined with the price and not even a Nintendo Land equivalent makes it seem like they're leaning on Mario Kart a bit too much to sell systems.
The average consumer is likely to stick with their current Switch and get something like Game Pass for a lot of the third-party stuff. It makes a lot more sense economically.
