@Ramouz Yeah, one of the pros of the Switch and Switch 2 not being region-locked. It's always worth double-checking just before you buy anything of the Japanese websites though. If you look on your regional eShop, you'll see all the languages each game supports under 'details', so if it supports English and Japanese you should be fine to buy it on Amazon Japan.
@Ramouz I believe the vast majority of games are both English and Japanese language on the eShop, bar some Japanese-only releases.
You can use eshop-prices.com to check if a game has any regional differences first though, and investigate from there. I can't think of one Nintendo AAA game that's Japanese-only though. 🙂
So we're just going to forget about former NL contributor Martin Watts, who absolutely destroyed Mario Mart Wii's online competition with the Wii Wheel? 😅
Someone's looking for over £400 for a sealed copy of Tipping Stars on Wii U. What makes it even more ridiculous is that it's a code in a box release. 😅
@BBBBBBBBBBB I don't disagree with you, I'm just stating the backlash it received at the time, which was before anyone had any real information about the 64GB Switch cards.
I'm most surprised about Bravely Default making the top ten. It's not much of a remaster, and the physical was the much complained about Game-Key Card, because the game is tiny.
I guess it was the cheapest 'physical' release though, must be why it sole so many units. 😉
I can't help but wonder how on earth Metroid Prime 4 is going to run at 120fps when FPS games like this max out at 30fps. Even DKB's boss fights are capped at 30fps. Yes, MP4 is an 'in-house' title developed for the original Switch, but 120fps just seems unbelievable really.
@Kidfunkadelic83 I'm with you on that, but I never got bored with 1000xRESIST, fortunately. I would try avoid reviews though, especially the one on this site, as it's a bit 'spoiler-y'.
@Kidfunkadelic83 I loved it. It's more of a visual novel than anything, though it has some interactive sections, dialogue branches, different endings, etc. The story is very much the central focus, but it's hell of a story.
@Ramouz I think in your case you could make a second Switch account that's based in Japan, which should circumvent the eShop funds issue. Then share the virtual game card with your main Switch account like @conditionals has done.
Yes, that's the same page I was talking about, just a different way of getting there. 😊
@conditionals Glad to hear it worked for you. Unless prices start dropping soon, this'll likely be my method of buying games going forward. It's a shame to be priced out of physical (so far), but the savings are too good to pass up.
Honestly, the game is way better than I expected it to be. I went in expecting another Odyssey, and I'm glad that isn't the case.
I'm having the most fun in the challenge rooms though, as I find the main game to be a bit too easy. Some boss fights are over within seconds, which is my biggest disappointment with Bananza.
The presentation is wonderful though, so it's currently a 9/10 for me.
I imagine Nintendo's idea behind pushing a Donkey Kong title was to create more exposure for him in the lead up to the DK movie that appears to be in the pipeline. And then that film will help sell more units of this game. It's a win-win for Nintendo.
@9_10DOH64 Well, the 2D challenges certainly sounded like DKC to me. As a side note, Wise doesn't have to be contracted in order for his music to be used.
@Medic_alert Interesting you should say that, as I've only experienced that with The Last Guardian too. I've restarted it three times and never finished it for that reason.
@Vegeta937 No problem. Something I forgot to mention is, you need to change the address in your 'Content Library' (under 'Your Account' ) on Amazon.co.jp to a Japanese address. Your billing address should still match the card you're paying with. You only have to set that up once though.
@Suketoudara No, you just switch your region to Japan in your profile in my.nintendo.com, go to the eShop on your Switch, and then scroll down to the bottom of the menu to redeem your Amazon code. You can switch back to your region immediately after.
You'll need an Amazon.co.jp account, but that website has an English language option.
The physical/digital argument falls flat now with Switch 2. I collected physical where possible on Switch, but on Switch 2 games are way more expensive and I only have finite amount of disposable income. DKB is £65 physically on Amazon UK, yet it was £36 digitally on Amazon Japan. I opted for the £29 saving, as I'm sure many others have done.
DKB has been a very pleasant surprise for me, as it's not the 'Odyssey but with DK' game I was expecting it to be. Yeah, there's a lot of collectables, but the skill tree makes a lot of the extra effort feel worthwhile. I think my only real disappoint, so far, is how quickly the boss fights are over. A few times now I've been left thinking "was that it?".
Anyways, this weekend is going to be DKB, Splatoon 3, F-Zero 99, and I really need to get back Xenoblade Chronicles X. Have a good one, team!
"So we built something borderline insane. The game would detect when you pressed jump, start the animation, then continuously measure how long you held the button."
Pretty sure that's how the jump worked in Super Mario Bros. on the NES too...
@Medic_alert It was the first thing I did after the opening. Fortunately, I'd seen a video on the Nintendo Today app about swapping the A and B buttons a few days earlier.
@Paulo That is the right answer. Saying that, Donkey Kong Bananza is the most fun I've had with a 3D platformer since Super Mario 3D World first released back on Wii U.
@Hank_Scorpio It looks like this is going to be future of buying Switch 2 games for me. I've always leaned towards physical, but I can't justify it now the price difference is £20-30 a game compared to Japan's digital prices.
If there's an upgrade path that must mean the Switch 2 version is a Switch 2 Edition release, based on what we've seen so far. Unless of course Nintendo is changing its policy (which it should!).

Looks like the creator set fire to their Switch 2 in the process. 😅
Re: UK Charts: No Prizes For Guessing Who Overtook Donkey Kong Bananza This Week
Code in a box titles appear to be doing better than Game-Key Card ones, if I'm reading it correctly.
Also, Mortal Kombat 11 is back in the top 10 and MK1 is nowhere to be found.

Re: ICYMI: Here's A Look Inside Donkey Kong Bananza's Switch 2 Game Case
So far, I've not bought any Switch 2 games physically, which feels weird as I went out of my way to go physical where possible on the original Switch.
Mario Kart World was a digital bundle, Fast Fusion is digital only (at the moment), and Kunitsu Gami is digital only in Europe (GKC in Japan).
I was going to get DKB physically but £65 is unjustifiable when the (Japanese) eShop version is just £36.
I'll pick up Metroid Prime 4 physically, but that'll be the Switch version, as I can't stand the butchered box art on Switch 2 Editions.
