As a huge Danny Brown fan, they really did pick a poor song from him. I guess it's a bit more 'family-friendly' than most of his other stuff though. 😅
In all seriousness, it doesn't send a great message to third-party developers does it? "Well, if Nintendo's own titles can't run at a solid 60fps on its latest hardware, you can hardly expect ours to."
Interesting. I don't recall any issues with 1000xRESIST other than the initial loading time. Can't wait until I can play that game again though, but my memory of the story will need to fade a bit first.
Splatoon 3 for the Summer Nights Splatfest! This'll be the first one since the Switch 2 upgrade, so I'm looking forward to going around both hubs in all their glory over the next couple of days.
I'd also like to say a bit of MKW, but I've not played that in two weeks now. Oh well, at least there's always the superior F-Zero 99.
This was going to be a day one purchase for me but I didn't have the space for it, so I figured I'd stick with MKW and Fast Fusion until NL's review came out. Those space restrictions can sometimes work in your favour! 😅
I'll pick this up once it's patched and hopefully discounted. I've got the first and second game on PS4, so I'm only really buying it for the third one anyway.
For those of you who've read Ask Iwata and would still like to learn more about him, I highly recommend The Impact of Iwata by Lucas M. Thomas. It's much more of a biography than Ask Iwata and features some really lovely illustrations.
I still get a bit emotional every time I think of Iwata-san. He had a unique approach to his work. Nintendo really hasn't been the same without him.
Taking that pay cut during the Wii U-era was such an honourable thing to do. It's something I often think about with all the doom and gloom coming out of the industry in recent years. I really wish he'd been around to see the success of the Switch.
It would have been nice for Nintendo to have finished the game before nominating it as the Switch 2 launch title. We shouldn't have to wait on DLC and updates to (hopefully) fix our criticisms of the game.
It's been out for over a month now and there's still no way of tracking you P-Switch progress and the character select screen is still awful. Nintendo dropped the ball on this release.
@tanasten It's a bug Nintendo needs to fix. If there's an update available for the Switch 2 Edition, it automatically downloads the NS2 Edition upgrade pack too. The whole thing is definitely on the cart though (bar the latest patches) as it can be run in airplane mode without the additional download.
Company's could easily add in CPU bots when they inevitably take the servers down, but it's not really in their interest when they want you upgrade to the latest iteration of whatever game series it is that you're playing. Even if they did add in bots, people would expect balancing issues to be addressed on a regular basis, as the bots would no doubt be complained about being 'cheap' or 'dumb' or whatever.
I'll definitely be picking this one up, but shall be avoiding the digital deluxe version. Masafumi Takada is probably my favourite video game composer, but the 10 track sample audio players they include with these versions is absolutely trash. I'll just wait and put the extra money towards a full OST release down the line.
Had a feeling Damien would be reviewing this one! It's a shame that both of the second series of Arcade Archives games offer shallow experiences. Looking forward to seeing what else is in the pipeline though.
Pfft... Over seven years is nothing new when it comes to waiting for a new Mega Man game. It'll happen when it happens. Also, there's still a few collections Capcom could release in the meantime.
@WiltonRoots Ha! That's true. Well, admittedly both did have very unique selling points, which I think the Switch 2 lacks at the moment. But what I was referring to was how many units were shifted during the pandemic, especially when paired with the release of Animal Crossing. That was some extremely fortunate timing on Nintendo's part. 🙂
I don't see it happening to be honest. There's how expensive the console and games are now, more competition in the handheld market, and likely longer instances of drought between exclusives (now there's no Wii U games to fall back on).
Switch 1 was lightning in a bottle. Switch 2 really doesn't really have a huge selling point outside of 'Your old games might run better', currently.
The best thing I can say about the system is that it has GameCube on the NSO now and games such as Splatoon 3 have better fps. Outside of that, it's mostly been an underwhelming 'more of the same'.
There are issues that need to be addressed with the OS and dock. MKW was extremely disappointing, especially as its launch title. So far there seems to be a lack of exclusives in the pipeline, if you don't count the Switch 2 Editions with new DLC.
Kate, I'm currently living in Spain and that 35°C heat gets old really fast. 😅
As for me, this weekend I'll be avoiding the heat by playing more Kunitsu-Gami and New Star GP. Debating whether to finally cave and pick up Street Fighter 6 digitally, now that I've seen Mega Man 3 and Bionic Commando are playable within it. Damn you, Capcom.
I've spent about 12 hours with it in total, and not picked it up again in the last week. Did about 60 P-Switches and lost all momentum because of there being no tracking system in place. The character select screen is a mess, and the CPU in Grand Prix is predictable unfair nonsense. Can't believe Nintendo has been sat on this for literally years and still decided to release it in a beta-like state.
I'm kinda glad it's getting reviewed bombed, as most of the 9s it's been awarded by gaming websites are not justified. Nintendo clearly thinks it can get away with anything these days after the success of the Switch, and it needs to be made aware that not everything it releases is gold.
Big N have a deal with Samsung and SanDisk for Express Cards, so it's not really in its interest to help us save space. I mean, this is the same company that gave us Game-Key Cards and 256GB internal storage space after all.
No-one's pooping on Sunshine. It's got a user score of 8.2 which is pretty high around here. It's just been beaten out by arguably better games from a very small selection.
The only ranking I disagree with here is having Luigi's Mansion one place higher than SoulCalibur 2 (at the time of writing).
I love the Luigi's Mansion series, but the first entry is a bit too short and samey, whereas SC2 is arguably the best title in the series and still plays amazingly well.
@Stormcloudlive Thanks for the useful explanation. It makes a lot of sense, I just hadn't considered it functioning that way outside of displayed frames. Runs to toggle 120fps back on
If I understood the video correctly, input lag is reduced if 120fps mode is turned on in the system settings, though the game stays locked at 60fps. That an odd advantage I'd never considered.
And then you have super tight Capcom that won't even bother to distribute some of its titles in Europe, despite saving a load of money by embracing Game-Key Cards.
Am I going to import a Game-Key Card from Japan? No f-ing chance.
Sonic Adventure was kinda fun in places, but so rough in others, even when it was originally released. It would take an awful lot of work to make it good for a modern audience.
Now, if we're talking Sonic Adventure 2, just give it a lick of paint and send it out into the world. That was a fun a game.
A 0 is clearly ridiculous, but the game is a 7 tops right now. It's hard to believe Nintendo dropped the ball so badly for one of its most beloved series. Considering it's been 'done' for a couple of years, you'd think they'd have included a system for tracking P-Switches at the very least. And don't get me started on the character select screen.
I hope this isn't a sign of things to come regarding Nintendo's QA.
It doesn't feel right picking a 10 year old game, so I'm going to go with a couple of Switch 2 releases. Fast Fusion and Kunitsu-Gami get my vote. I've enjoyed a few P-Switch challenges out of the 60 or so I've found in MKW, but overall the game is a huge let down.
I still need to get around to The Hundred Line. I'm gonna have to bite the bullet and import it.
@DashKappei Thanks for the recommendation. I picked this up a few hours ago (for £4.99) and have only just put it down to comment on here. I'm hooked!
I picked up Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess yesterday, so I'm looking forward to trying that out with the mouse controls. Elsewhere, some more P-Switches, F-Zero 99, Splatoon 3, Wind Waker, and Fast Fusion (the new update is fantastic).
I just picked this up for under £25. I appreciate that it's a relatively small download size too. Looking at the 'extras' there's a lot of Okami-related goodies packed in with it, such as costumes, music, and items. Oh, and the mouse controls actually seem like they could be useful. I'm really looking forward to it.
