Re: Kirby Air Riders Looks To Be Powered By Bandai Namco's New In-House Engine

Jack_Goetz

Um... Well, it looks great in action, though the I'm tired of the Smash Bros. UI at this point. While I had fun (certainly more than I've had with MKW) with the lessons, three courses, and the city run, I can't see myself coming back to it, especially at its current asking price.

I'm not a huge Kirby fan, and while I appreciate Air Riders having its own 'feel', I think I'll just stick with F-Zero 99, Fast Fusion, and CrossWorlds for the foreseeable.

Re: Hyrule Warriors: Age Of Imprisonment Voice Actors Officially Revealed

Jack_Goetz

Zelda's English voice acting really gets on my nerves. It's so over the top and pathetic-sounding. Nothing against Patricia Summersett though, as she's only doing what's being asked of her.

Zelda Notes on the Switch 2 Editions of BotW and TotK could have been a great feature, but I'll never get around to using it based on the voice acting direction going on in these games recently.

Re: "These Shouldn't Be The Only Games Being Made" - Keiji Inafune Critical Of Reliance On Big IPs

Jack_Goetz

This guy is one of the biggest shills in the industry. Mighty No. 9 is still one of the worst games I've ever played. The only reason that campaign was so successful was his constant reliance and referencing of a big IP (Mega Man) and making out he had a bigger part in that series than he did. So I guess that makes him somewhat of a hypocrite too.

And let's not forget this gem, which ended up backfiring spectacularly: https://www.eurogamer.net/mega-man-creator-laments-tragic-state-of-japanese-games-industry

Re: Opinion: Animal Crossing On Switch 2 Has Me Equal Parts Buzzing And Baffled

Jack_Goetz

I don't think we'll see a new main entry in the Animal Crossing series after this update. And I don't see the Switch 2 generation sticking around as long as the original Switch managed to.

Therefore, it would arguably make more sense to keep a new entry back as an early/launch title for Switch 3 to shift some units now that it hasn't got Mario Kart to fall back on (I believe we'll be getting a new main 3D Zelda entry on Switch 2).

Re: Talking Point: How Do You Play NES Games These Days?

Jack_Goetz

I have an original NES, that's in pristine condition (I had one in the 80s but had to sell it to upgrade to the SNES), but it's just a pain and expensive to set up to look good on a modern TV. So I'll either pick up a compilation collection, such as the Castlevania, Contra, Mega Man, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, etc, or just fire up NSO for convenience.

I do have a NES mini and Famicom mini too, but they just seem like another unnecessary step now, unless I'm looking to play a ROM hack like Mother 1.

Re: Team Ninja Founder And Industry Veteran Tomonobu Itagaki Has Passed Away

Jack_Goetz

A notorious character in the game industry, but his integrity always shone through his work. There was an Xbox 360 exclusive documentary about ninjas around Ninja Gaiden 2's release, and Itagaki's contributions and insights in that film were fascinating. It's worth tracking down if you can find it.

I also loved how much he hated his games being ported to PS3 back in the day, and always complained about the difficulty being watered down in the Sigma versions. He was certainly passionate about his creations.

Re: Switch 2 Named One Of The Best 'Entertainment & Gaming' Inventions Of 2025

Jack_Goetz

@SuppressorSteve Neither MKW or Bananza offer new experiences. One's an underbaked version of what's come before (albeit with prettier graphics) and the other is basically Odyssey with a very repetitive mechanic. Arguably, Drag x Drive offers a new experience, but it's just not fun.

If you think your old Switch games loading slightly faster is a new experience, well, good for you I suppose.

Re: Opinion: Sonic Racing Crossworlds > Mario Kart World, And It's Not Even Close For Me

Jack_Goetz

Totally agree with everything PJ has stated in this article. MKW was incredibly disappointing for a Mario Kart game, especially after such a long wait. The open world is boring (not to mention incomplete due to missing P-Switch tracker). The tracks are not all that fun. The character select screen is a mess. A lack of traditional three-lap races. Overall, it was style over substance, whereas Sonic CrossWorlds is just more fun. It's as simple as that.
