In the UK Smyths seem to have normalised Switch 2 game prices so they are no more than £59.99. This makes games such as Mario Kart World £15 less RRP (quite why that was £75 in the first place though!).
I wonder which will last longer, this or the Donkey Kong DLC?
I played Voyagers for about 1.5 hours with my son, we both enjoyed it so far, but it’s not up there with ‘It Takes Two’.
I like the music and the variety of course styles, plus the concept of driving on a different course for track 2 is great. But annoyingly I didn’t find it that fun to play, I really wish the handling was more like Mario Kart World - I feel that has perfected the kart handling.
I persevered for a bit, but then swapped. They wheeled out Miyamoto to explain the merits of the Starfox control on Wii U, and we all know how well that game went down. Perhaps he’s better at sticking to Theme Parks and Movies these days.
I have a Switch 2 and I have 1 voucher left to cash in. Either Zelda EOW, or Metroid Prime 4, then pay for the Switch 2 upgrade (assuming there is one). 🤔
Maybe not a Nintendo problem per se, but played hours of Mario Kart, then pivot back to It Takes Two. To the untrained eye, you wouldn’t know they were from different console generations. I certainly didn’t have any confusion when jumping from Mega Drive to Sega Saturn!
Shipping games on fast flash storage is too expensive, particularly as games get larger. I suspect both Nintendo and the publishers are very happy with this approach. It also appeases some (not all) consumers as they can sell the game at a later date.
I fully expect Sony to embraces this same model on their next console(s) rather than providing an optical device.
I also strongly suspect CDPR got preferential treatment as a premier 3rd party launch title (i.e. Nintendo supplemented the cost of the card).
@GBA_Yoshi_92 Yeah, but isn’t that like Birdo being referenced as male originally. The Cranky Kong feels more of an in-joke. What would be funny is if they make out that DK was actually rescuing Pauline in the Arcade games, but how they do that without making Mario out as a bad guy. Then again Mario/DK games are paper thin on story.
Odd they didn’t show Sonic X Shadow Generations, as that has the potential to be a significant step up from the Switch release. Perhaps the no show is a concern…
Often thought Leicester Square in London would be a great place for a Nintendo Store. Massively popular with tourists, also where many global film premiers take place. The queues for the Lego store are often huge.
Unless I’m mistaken the Switch Lite appears to have dropped in price. On the official Nintendo shop it is listed at £179, although this is now without a power supply. Arguably the normal Switch has too, as it is £259 (originally £279) and comes bundled with a game. I do think the Switch 2 needs to be quite a bit lower than £399, say £349 or £379 tops.
@Axecon pretty sure they have to wait. All we’ve heard is companies say they will support Switch 2. I suspect many AAA companies will have their own ‘direct’ shortly after the Nintendo one in April.
Sort out the jerky frame rate for Sonic. The shadow game is smoother
Fix the Metal Sonic music. (There are two versions of the JP/EU song, one has the longer intro which should play when you start the level, and a shorter one when you restart the level. They have them the wrong way round.)
The trouble with not having region locks is that games have to be sold at a similar price globally.
Something like Dragon Quest would be better off selling for £30 in the UK, rather than £50 to entice new customers who have no affinity to the franchise.
There’s probably a middleware app as part of the package that was licensed for 5 years, and seeing as new sales on this collection are now low, it’s not worth their money renewing.
We saw issues with the Unity Runtime fee changes for new installs, probably something similar to that.
It’s a great game, really varied and quite long too. I’ve only played the Switch version and found it absolutely fine, frame rate is stable and graphics are good. I didn’t find the loading times too bad. There’s quite a lengthy demo available on eShop, so check that out if you’re curious (although they call it Friends Pass rather than demo)
@sdelfin The Punisher did come out on the Mega Drive, not a bad conversation and probably comparable to the 16-but Street Fighter releases. Trouble is, it didn’t have the popularity of Final Fight or the playability of Streets of Rage 2, so passed many people by.
I know my view is not the most popular, but I wish there were more ‘code-in-the-box’ releases. I prefer digital releases so I don’t have to faff around with cartridges. But digital is often significantly more. Take Luigi’s Mansion 2; physical was almost half the price compared to the Nintendo eShop on release.
They didn’t remake Sonic 1, 2, 3K and CD, they were essentially already done by a quality indie team. They just borked them into a single collection with a nonsensical frontend.
@Bass_X0 although they couldn’t be bothered to change the backgrounds, they did do new tunes for each character. One of my favourite Street Fighter BGM overall.
@Not_Soos I’m not a Marvel fan, and back when I had the games on the Saturn the only characters I knew were Spiderman and Hulk. However they are really fun games to play, particularly the first two vs games. Generally the special moves are much easier to pull off compared to Street Fighter too. Just need to get myself a 6-button Mega Drive, or Saturn joypad now….
I’ve always assumed it will be called Mario Kart X. X stands for 10, but as it will likely be a live service game, the X also means crossover. So you’ll have ‘Mario Kart X Sonic’ and ‘Mario Kart X Final Fantasy’.
@Diogmites Personally I find Twilight Princess the best of the pre BOTW 3D Zelda games. I suspect people’s views differ depending on which 3D Zelda they played first - much like the debate whether BOTW or TOTK is better.
I’ve only played the Switch version, so can’t compare the graphics to other consoles, but to me it looks great. They have a free demo on the shop called It Takes Two Friends Pass, well worth getting this if you haven’t played the game yet.
@rjejr I disagree, I think Yooka Laylee is great. I’m still playing through it (nearly complete), it’s even meant I have Super Mario Wonder sitting there half played. I do agree things could be improved, for example the first world is a bit confusing initially, and easy to get lost. It can be hard tracking down the last few pagies on each world - even with the hunter tonic, and the railcart mini games are just frustrating. I’d encourage others to pick it up, especially when it goes on sale for a couple of £.
Would be nice if they added a credit system for all these games. E.g. pay a £1 and each game is 10p to play (maybe a bit more for slightly newer ones).
The game is sort of a Sonic 4 Episode 3, with better physics, but worse graphics.
Look at some of the backgrounds on the later stages, such as Golden Capital; Episode 2 looked far better.
I also think the complaints about the bosses are exaggerated, they normally only take 4 or 5 hits compared to 8 on previous games. I found them quite fun (unless playing as Trip’s Story!)
@Koffyman Crafted World is a great game. Quite relaxing to play and keeps you coming back for more as you try to find the hidden objects in all the stages. Highly recommended!
@Strumpan It’s possible the rights are only applicable to the original release. So it’s conceivable the original soundtrack will be used in ‘original’ mode, but a different one in ‘anniversary’ mode. Guess we’ll find out in a couple of weeks. I personally think the beta soundtrack was far superior, so I’m hoping for that!
If I think back to the games I loved on the Megadrive, I’m pretty sure none of them will be released via Switch Online: Micro Machines 2 Mega Bomberman Road Rash Wiz ‘n’ Liz Pugsy
This is a great game, very popular in UK arcades back in the day too. I couldn’t never get past the swimming pool, it was only 20 years or so later that I found out you can press forward twice to run!
At least a lot of development goes into CoD each year, certainly in comparison to FIFA. Which franchise did Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games fall into? Both I assume?
Trouble with this game, looking at static screenshots of this vs Wipeout on the PlayStation was not going to convince people the N64 is the more powerful console.
It is a good game, and quite funny in places. You do die a lot, but you have infinite lives and there are frequent checkpoints so you don’t have to replay the same sections too many times. During the boss battles, it checkpoints when you get to the pinch point which makes them more tolerable. I found games such as Hollow Knight and Cuphead far more frustrating to play due to their difficulty!
If you look at vgchartz.com, in the US, total sales of PS4 and Switch are similar, Japan the Switch has significantly outsold the PS4, but Europe the PS4 has significantly outsold the Switch. If I was Nintendo, I’d be questioning what’s going on in their European division!
