@Protion9 the latest rumour was that Ridge Racer was being developed again for Switch 2. supposedly it was also an early PS5 title after the Switch version was cancelled which also never saw the light of day.
was excited to buy this when it was announced for Switch 2. currently i'll get it if and when 60fps is a thing, if not no sale. will be interesting to see the teardowns because if it isn't utilizing DLSS that will be telling.
@GetontheStiix Katamari is the same 30fps on Switch and 60 on all other systems with no Switch 2 enhancements. it's all a bit baffling and dissapointing for early Switch 2 adopters.
it's like the Switch 2 doesn't exist another L for Nintendo. having said that from early reviews the game doesn't look as good as the Clap Hanz titles...
@rjejr i feel like most people who own another system will just buy it on a non-Nintendo console. the SW1 version will run noticably poorer and having the SW2 edition come late is a mistake.
@datamonkey it's such a shame when Nvidia tech is so efficient this system is being hamstrung by the lousy process. low clocks, bad battery life and understandably plenty of heat in the process. and we're stuck with this performance an entire generation unless they're willing to offer different profiles on a refresh. people say the system would have been more expensive but they're selling the JP only unit for $100 less without taking a loss.
ultimately it's short-sighted, the SOC should have been redesigned on a better process as soon as the system was coming any later than 2023.
the new characters are cool but i don't understand why they removed staples like the Koopalings & Kamek who appeared once and isn't playable again. DLC please!
Samsung 8nm is pretty ancient & inefficient especially for a portable system. Here's hoping they do a shrink to unlock higher performance profiles not to mention better battery life. Reverting back to v1 level battery life for SW2 is a bit of a fail honestly.
Ridge Racer was quite far along but I can see why it was cancelled. I'm reading it was moved to UE5 as a PS5 title and cancelled again, perhaps Nintendo could have picked up the pieces for a SW2 edition.
With the Switch being 8 years old there is absolutely no way this launch can be anything but amazing on all fronts if Nintendo wants to repeat the success of the Switch. This means first party (which won't all come at once) being supplemented by third party ports & exclusives day 1. If the launch line-up is not impressive after all this time people will simply wait to upgrade.
June sound right but the bit about first party games for launch sounds bunk. Nintendo will want to space out their big titles and having third party (including exclusive) content there will be essential for a big launch.
this is not what i expected from a first look at MK9 or whatever it's called. we're two generations on from MK8...i thought this was more MK8 DLC initially before taking a closer look. 24 players is why it's more basic looking, i guess? dissapointing either way...
it looks about as good as any Switch title could look which isn't that great but impressive given the hardware. it's begging for a next-gen version (which must exist) so why roll out this version as the first-look if it's not releasing till 2025? weird marketing decision tbh.
the December 2022 date is probably when the message was placed there as it was very likely around the time the movie was completed. no idea about the other one.
why are people saying we don't have any details on the T239? it's specs are known besides clock speeds & RAM. and it's 100% going in the next Switch as it's a custom chip built for Nintendo. these things are in the pipeline for years, they just don't always leak illegally!
anyone who has been following the Switch 2/Pro/4k whatever you want to call it train knows this is exactly the window when it's dropping. when they actually show the game in-depth we'll see it running on the new hardware. my money is on them dropping on the same day, makes too much sense.
don't expect to see anything big on the first party front until plans are final for the new Switch release. likely they hold onto things until nearer the time (BOTW2).
Nintendo's biggest seller is a racing game. Seems mad they wouldn't support another established series of racing games. We haven't even had a F-Zero title in the 'online' era. Oh and F-Zero X > GX
seems to be an awful lot of things converging around Q2 next year (Zelda, this, maybe more unannounced titles cough Odyssey 2). my money is on the more powerful Switch coming along then.
@westman98 it seems amazingly powered. i think there's a possibility this could be a TV-only version of the Switch, given these specs and it's on 8nm. at least for the initial launch. something doesn't quite add up.
@countzero some of the GPU details have already been found, as has the confirmed DLSS & ray tracing support. and this isn't even the full leak hackers are threatening which could contain the entire specs. when a customised chip is this far in development there's no going back, it's a huge investment. it's just a matter of when, though noteworthy that Orin (the chip T239 in based off) launches this Spring.
Whether it's a Pro or Switch 2 is a matter of semantics & ultimately marketing. Likely Nintendo go with Switch 4k or some variation as it's USP. This will still be a part of the Switch 'generation' if that even means anything and as for the hardware it's a giant leap. The finer spec details (eg we already knew it was based on Nvidia Orin) scoured from the leak are pretty beastly for a handheld. Exciting stuff!
