Re: Ubisoft Scaling Back Support For Wii U, Expects Price Cut To Bolster Sales

HaNks

don't blame ubisoft, blame nintendo. they've sunk more money putting content on the system than any other third party. nintendo more or less wrote off the first half of the year, the 'launch window', while the console sold terribly.

third parties are right to see if nintendo's new strategy bumps up the install base before investing any more in the platform.

Re: Talking Point: Lessons to be Learned, Again, From the Wii U Games Drought

HaNks

nintendo has made a lot mistakes in the launch of the wii U, so it's good to see an article that reflects this reality. that's not to say anything about the long term prospects for the console or quality of output, when it does start to flow.

if somebody makes a mistake you want them to learn from it. fanboy rationalizations don't help anybody. nintendo continue to learn the hard way, very slowly and stubbornly adjusting their business. i hope they start to be a bit more forward thinking so the changes aren't so last minute, on the fly or blatant fan pandering as they have been recently.

Re: Feature: The Biggest Wii U Games of 2013 - Spring Edition

HaNks

given their recent track record, i wouldn't put too much faith in wind waker hd being 'fall' or 2013. depends whether its more a remake or reskin. having said that, it should be a hard hitting year for wiiU, most likely from titles not shown yet like Mario Kart, Retro project and a 3D Mario if it releases.

the release date situation right now is shocking given the lack of software. nintendo badly need to get dates for games like pikmin and w101 and get them out. the whole list is pretty much TBA.

Re: Talking Point: The Download or Disc Dilemma

HaNks

prices. i expect a digital version to be at the very least 10% less than the cheapest boxed copy and on super fast servers. on pc i am all digital because storage space isn't an issue and steam is a cloud based service not tied to a particular machine.

if i get a digital game on the wii U it is locked to one machine, costs more AND i have to have to sort out external storage. so where it's an option, discs all the way. funny because digital is more convenient, loading times, no disc drive spinning up noises.

brand new NSMBU is £30 from zavvi/hut right now. eshop - £50.

Re: Review: F-Zero (Wii U eShop / Super Nintendo)

HaNks

yup, X is the series pinnacle, better than GX for me. this is a great achievement for a SNES title though and no walk in the park from a difficulty perspective. great soundtrack too. at 30 pence its a no brainer, methinks this VC 'trial' is more of an early adopter bonus, thanks Nintendo ;]

Re: Wii Mini Is Hitting The UK On March 22nd

HaNks

not so bad considering you get a nice red motion plus included. and the retail price on those things individually is +/- £40. nintendo will have an idea of how many people ever connect their wii's to the internet and it's probably a lowish percentage. so this seems like a reasonable model to push in the future, especially in 'emerging' markets.

Re: Hardware Classics: Nintendo DS Lite

HaNks

the DS Phat was a lot more ergonomic and better for MK. screen is a huge upgrade on the Lite and the later revisions getting close to the best of both. OG 3DS is kind of the same dimensions as the Lite - not good for larger hands!

Re: Wii U Advert Banned In The UK

HaNks

it's something you would presume, i was pretty surprised at the uncertainty and then confirmations about games that would NOT have off-tv play. and the small matter of existing VC and Wii games. after the initial E3 showing it was letdown to learn this feature isn't hard-wired into anything the console outputs.
