In case you missed it, Nintendo confirmed that Bayonetta 3 will be launching later this year on October 28th, putting an end to months (years??) of speculation and rumours.
In addition, Nintendo has also announced that a physical edition of the first Bayonetta game will also launch later this year, which means the entire trilogy will now be available in physical format - yay!
This makes sense, of course, given that the Trinity Masquerade Edition of Bayonetta 3 will come complete with three custom sleeves to use with each physical game, linking them together to form one cohesive design.
Nintendo has also confirmed that the physical edition will be available in limited quantities, so you best be quick if you want to secure one!
Plus, complete your Bayonetta collection when the original Bayonetta game launches for Nintendo Switch as a stand-alone, physical release on Sept. 30! A limited number of the Bayonetta physical version will be available to pre-order via select retailers and available at launch in the My Nintendo Store at a suggested retail price of $29.99.
Will you be purchasing the physical edition of Bayonetta to complete the trilogy? Let us know with a comment!

Sold. Pre-ordering instantly.
So I'd like to get it just to have a physical copy... but I have the digital copy that came with Bayo2 and I never played either since I got them at launch... not sure it would be worth the expenditure.
Masquerade edition better not be on the eshop.
That's great news. I think I'll get all 3 of them in one go then!
trilogy pack would be preferrable. or maybe wait for the 4k trilogy pack after DLSS Switch launches.
Oh great My Nintendo Store, I'm going to have to open a new bank account to buy it as the UK site doesn't accept any of my cards
@Browny Kind of where I am at to be honest. I keep trying to get into it, but it never quite holds my attention beyond the first chapter. I feel like I would be buying this purely for novelty purposes.
Pack all three games onto one cartridge. I'd buy that instantly.
Love to get this, Bayo 2 is looking lonely on the shelf right now. After this and Bayo 3 ill be singing about thinking my collection is complete like the Little Mermaid
@MS7000
I actually really like the games; I played most of the first back on Xbox and was happy to have it on Switch. I just never really got around to playing the first to completion on Switch, or even start up the second one.
I will be buying the third, and probably just play all three back to back this holiday while on vacation.
It's cool they are releasing the first one physical but since a remaster was released on more powerful consoles a while back I'm not sure this will compare well. Good for those with only a Switch though
I am not that interested in this series but am I the only one that thinks that this is a missed opportunity to sell a physical trilogy with all three games in a 3 card pack?
Is this also in North America, or UK only?
About time, I was afraid this one would be trapped in digital forever.
if I could buy Bayo 2 physical I would also get Bayo 1. not sure about having 1 and 3 but not 2 in the set. hmmm.
EDIT: never mind. I forgot Bayo 2 was already available physical on Switch!! Time to open up the wallet!
I'm confused about why now make a physical version of the first Bayonetta and not when Bayonetta 2 Switch was launched, especially when Japan got that Special Edition that included Bayonetta 1 physically.
I get it could be because of Bayonetta 3, but how available is Bayonetta 2 physically right now to make physical copies of the first.
I'm not complaining, I'm just confused.
Hmm still haven’t bought the switch versions but now I am not sure if I want them physical or digital.
@HammerGalladeBro Cause PlatinumGames is bleeding money now. They made two stinkers (Sol Cresta and Babylon's Fall) this year and want to recoup that by re-releasing their other good games (Nier Automata and Bayonetta 1) in physical form to make up for it. Wouldn't surprise me if they port Star Fox Zero and Star Fox Guard to Switch too at some point.
They should reissue 2 this fall as well. A quick search shows physical copies of Bayonetta 2 selling for no less than $72 new.
I really hope they're not too stingy with the number of copies they print. I kind of wish they went through limited-run games or something like that, or at least implemented a similar system to where they print copies after opening preorders for a limited time, rather than making a limited number of copies and attracting scalpers. Best case scenario, they'll print more copies than scalpers will anticipate, like with Super Mario 3D All Stars, leaving them with stacks of copies that they don't know what to do with.
Sweet. My main reason for not double dipping on Bayonetta 1 and 2 on Switch is because the first game lacked a physical release. Looks like now I have to return.
@HaNks this is like reading a comment from a flat earther or something - your confidence in the impossible is inspiring
@RudeAnimat0r $70 was the release price because it comes with a download for Bayo 1 as well - it was also $69.99 so I never picked it up myself
@GannonBanned Huh, then I guess reissue without the code?
@RudeAnimat0r Play-Asia is still selling the NA version of Bayonetta 2 for under $60 new with digital code of Bayonetta 1 included. Even if you add shipping it won't go passed $70.
I remember the Wii U version of Bayonetta 1 became a collector's item pretty quick.
Like the one time I saw a copy at GameStop, I recall they wanted like $70 for it, when the sequel was down to like a $20 game or something.
At least this won't be a total 💩 show that XC3 preorders were. 🤦♂️
Wait, so will Bayonetta 1 be released physically in limited stock? I need a copy for my collection, even though I have Bayonetta 1 & 2 physically for Wii U, I'd prefer to have them all on Switch with Bayonetta 3 releasing soon.
That's great news for anyone who hasn't played it already. But why limited? Oh, Nintendo...
I have Bayo 1 and 2 on Wii u though.
Cool were do I pre order
I wonder if this one will have a song that has something to do with the moon. We had fly me to the moon then moon river.
Probably a European-only special edition for Bayo 3. I don't see Nintendo actually bringing that over to North America at all.
@MS7000 have you tried the sequel?
@HammerGalladeBro probably a few things going on here
@DarthFoxMcCloud it's confirmed to be coming to US too... Same for physical B1!
Hell yes! Getting a physical copy of all 3 for sure.
I own First Print Edition on Wii U, so i have it standalone already. Also own it on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.
This seems like a bit of a middle finger to those who had no other option when Bayonetta 2 launched. I imported the expensive (and extremely limited) Japanese special edition via a scalper because it was the only way to get Bayonetta 1 on cartridge at the time (and the cart is identical to what was released digitally internationally).
But the most insulting thing that Nintendo did was issue a “special edition” for the West that didn’t include the Bayonetta 1 cart, and I saw absolutely no point in paying a AU$50 premium for a bunch of useless trinkets in a box when Japan got a better deal for about the same price.
But this is nevertheless great news for physical fans, and I imagine that a standalone Bayonetta 2 release will follow (that is, without the download code for the first game).
@belmont : Surely it would make more financial sense to produce an all-in-one cartridge with all three games on a 32GB or 64GB cartridge rather than issue three 16GB carts (and there are several Switch cartridges that spawn separate icons for each game, rather than being consolidated into a single launcher like the days of old). But if such a release surfaces, I would leap at it.
Already got the digital version on Switch, would have loved to have a physical copy but I can't really justify forking out £30.00 just to have a physical copy of a game I already have
Cool!
In the Switch version of Bayo 2, is Bayo 1 a download code (that I can hand over to someone else), or treated like a DLC for the purchase? Getting the trilogy physically will leave me with a digital copy of Bayo 1 that I don't need.
@Browny In exactly the same boat… well, not exactly. I have played what feels like perhaps a third or so of the first game. Got stuck on a boss and never got back to it.
That physical copy is tempting… but with a few exceptions I avoid buying purely for collecting’s sake. An exception being re-buying Cave Story+ for the Japanese cover art (US release), even though I already had the first release physical edition. Maybe not my best move, but… oh well, maybe I’ll give away a copy.
@Fazermint I believe it is a download code. I just ordered Bayonetta 2 for a great price (in fact the website I ordered it from last night have since put the price up a bit.. wonder if my order made them realise lol) and I'm considering doing the same (giving the download code for Bayonetta 1 away). Or I may use it, and keep Bayonetta 1 physical copy sealed (but I feel this is a waste and then I won't be able to use the art cover that come with the Bayonetta 3 special edition...). Hmmm.. first world problems
Anyone seen the best sites/prices to pre order Bayonetta 1 physical in the UK?
@hylianticipated I'll take the digital code if you don't need it? I would have to make a UK account to play it though. I have a NA code for for Wonderful101 on Steam if anyone wants that?
Damn it. I got excited when I heard Bayo 1 physical was coming, so i went and bought Bayo 2 cartridge. I wasn't going to since i would never have 1 on cart, or so I thought. But now I can't seem to preorder anywhere! Damn you Nintendo. Just print more to demand. I'll even trade my 'limited' copy of Super Mario 3D All-Stars.
