it's £35 with a remote plus, which generally retail for that much or more anyway. so i can't see why anyone would want an eshop version, unless it's super cheap.
i believe the original zelda 3ds came with a physical copy of the game, no? though nowadays it's always the download versions. bit of a downer as the kind of people who want these special editions are often after a physical copy too...
i've been holding out for this bundle but now i think i'm gonna buy the silver or all black XL and zelda separately. the all black XL design is easily the nicest looking imo.
SS would need minimal work...could be a straight up uprez pretty much. TP on the other hand would need more texture work, but still a big improvement in HD as is.
good to see pikmin selling reasonably well. quality single player orientated software that was really needed closer to day 1. thankfully the game is fantastic, but the delays have undoubtedly fed into the negative trajectory for wii U. at least plenty of owners have picked it up...will be interesting to see how w101 fares in the US in comparison.
been said already but really needs a price cut. the post-launch flop was highly predictable, you didn't have to wait long at all for big price drops at retail. but how it's gonna perform this holiday season, not so easy to foresee. i don't think it's going to do great, but it could come in anywhere from terrible to reasonably good, depending on quite a few factors. ps4 being only $50 more certainly won't help, software bundles or not.
nice review, without giving anything away. been eagerly anticipating the game and played through the demo loads. you didn't really talk about the battle mechanics, but there seems to be a LOT of depth there. it can be really hard to follow what's going on, but once you get with the aerial combos it starts getting crazy
thing is the price has already been slashed at retail and nobody wants it. games will help, but their overall approach to the system has been disastrous since day one. i say this as a massive nintendo fan, but the wii U failing is totally deserved. anything that makes them rethink some of their strategies has to be a good thing.
and the holiday line-up isn't that great considering, not in terms of system selling propositions.
should have been wii 2 without the gamepad bumping up the price. nintendo have dropped the ball in so many ways with this system it's unbelievable and despite having 'learned lessons' from the 3DS launch. they are not 'doomed' by any means, but a major shake-up and new approach will be needed to remain relevant, at least in the home console market.
@SCAR392 your math is off. it's 30% off one game, not both. so £68 presuming w101 is also £39.99.
@Sonic_Phantom awesome price! change from £24 even. my flubit order just dispatched earlier, win-win by using them so far. you should certainly get a wonderful 101 offer in the £25 area too.
also, i don't see any mention of the 10% premium wii U digital offer which i believe stacks on top of this. so another 10% back off the total of both games. should probably include that in the article, would make it even more appealing to some.
got them BOTH pre-ordered for UNDER £50 (flubit and wowhd prices for the demand). offer is alright i guess, but i'd rather have physical copies for £20 less and a chance they'll arrive before the release date. then again they might come after, but i can live with that for the money saved and having physical packages. pikmin 3 has particularly nice boxart.
nintendo are slowly getting their act together with the digital sales and offers though. keep em' coming!
remember if nintendo had their way this would have been shut down entirely. with their backward policies, you wonder if they even deserve the feedback...
and the stream was fantastic. big ups to all the great melee players.
i believe you can use the wiimote plus, nunchuck & gamepad all together, with the gamepad acting as the second screen - map etc. seems like the definitive way to play to me!
@CrabGats it is all about the software, especially for us. but remember that nintendo have always dominated the handheld space. they can't afford to make the same type of mistakes in a highly competitive console market, where a stream of HD, online connected titles has become the norm.
as long as they can satisfy the hardcore and break even in the end it'll be fine, but even that's looking like an uphill struggle at this point. a huge fall from the success of the wii.
btw i think people are in for a shock when the 'next-gen' consoles also underperform post-launch. the failing economy (which is still going in the wrong direction, the recovery is bs propaganda) is very real and will be a huge factor in the years to come.
not surprising. i am in the UK and have a wii U but being real....the system launched without any killer 1st party titles, horrific OS, poor marketing, perceived lack of value compared to 360/ps3. even with the constant reductions (premium £200 and basic £149 - £100 lower than launch) most people still aren't bothered.
9 months later the OS is better but still poor and there's been hardly any notable software releases. virtual console is a joke considering that lots of content would of been an awesome hook to sell people on off-tv play. why the lack of investment? clearly a rushed launch, but i don't see why it was handled so badly given the time between the initial unveil and launch. nintendo really dropped the ball and i'm not sure sales will improve drastically this holiday season.
i loved it. the rumble pak was expertly used in lylat wars and also was a big part in bringing goldeneye to life. the way different guns genuinely felt different via the rumble was fantastic.
it's a shame that rumble isn't considered much these days beyond on/off for the most part. the gamecube controller had a weaker rumble, though more cohesive across the entire pad. the wii U gamepad is weaker still and not satisfying at all, more like a buzz. can't really do much given the size of the pad.
the 360 pad has a really strong rumble than i enjoy. playing bayonetta recently, the use of rumble is so well done it's giving me those lylat wars feels. rez HD is another great one, you can have 4 controllers rumbling together just for the fun of it. anyone care to comment on the wii U pro controller compared to the others?
it'd be fine if it was a cut price release, to reflect the minimal changes made to the game. as a full price release i'm not keen. most HD remasters are sold in sets or as budget titles.
@LordGeovanni nice try, but this kind of thing could easily be allowed to happen and has for many other games from various companies for years now. then you suggest they are going to donate the equivalent amount to charity themselves. based on what? definitely the worst kind of apologist that pops up on this site...
free publicity? no thanks. you can't even buy that kind of exposure to the enthusiast audience. factor in the fact there is a sequel coming next year, wii U is struggling and fans did a charity drive to get the game up there...just crazy. nintendo are so backwards it's unbelievable.
very rationally put why it isn't such a big deal. i'm not too fussed either way, but if i had to choose to have the extra choice or not i would certainly opt for it. as it's mainly enthusiasts of niche titles doing the importing, i can't see how it's disruptive to their business.
another buy 1 system get 1 free digital game would be the promotion to drive hardware sales, imo. the XL has been on sale recently and 3DS is doing well with its stellar software line-up.
some great content for sure, but good enough turn things around this holiday season? i'd point to a lack of Mario Kart as a reason to be concerned, probably the strongest candidate for a system seller if there was one.
i have little doubt the 3DS will deliver on all fronts, but the wii U is in big trouble. good chance iwata will be out if its still performing way below expectations next april.
