Re: Review: Mario Tennis Open (3DS)

HaNks

thanks for the fair review...the less than great score doesn't discourage me from getting it one bit. in fact, all the people being very pragmatic about not buying this/not copping it on day one make me want it even more! sure to be fun and potentially very amusing online. hard to properly judge the online mode before the game is actually out i'd of thought.

Re: If Only This F-Zero 3DS Advert Was Real

HaNks

meh, i want to see X reimagined for 3DS/Wii-U as opposed to the GX incarnation. imagine X with 16/32 player online races, super smooth HD graphics while maintaining the original art direction and gameplay. would be amazing.

Re: Feature: The Magic of Console Launches

HaNks

UK price likely to be closer to £300 than £200 methinks. £250 would be just about right, any more and it's gonna run a lot including games and extra accessories etc...too much for most.

bring on e3!

Re: Iwata Defends Identical Digital and Retail Prices

HaNks

they can easily make more money from 1st party digital downloads. no overheads aside from servers etc, minimal compared to a retail distribution. price needs to reflect this somewhat...value has to be considered by both the producer and consumer.

Re: Download Your Wii U Games Overnight

HaNks

i think the main issues have been raised already and there indeed some issues. it'll be interesting to see what nintendo's solution is.

games 10gb or more and internal/external storage dilemma...

  • large in-built internal storage means the console would need to cost sufficiently more to compensate. it'd be needing hundreds of gigabtyes to be a viable all in one solution, so pretty much a desktop drive.
  • external storage options would be good, but what? USB3.0 based portable drives would probably be the ticket (the ones that don't need their own power). nintendo would be smart to brand one as an official add-on, like 1tb or something. would come in around $100 at current market prices. no rip offs here, just a very fair prices hard drive to entice people to use the download service, which ultimately makes them more money.

alternatively you could have SDXC support, although buying multiple smaller cards at 32gb a pop would be the best value right now. and if downloads aren't going to be at a reduced price, where's the money going to come from to be buying all this extra flash based storage.

i'm planning to buy discs unless nintendo solution to storage is efficient enough in price and performance. i can't see how its possible without extra investment. a small drive that needs upgrading like the wii's internal memory isn't going to wash it.

Re: Feature: Super Mario on Wii U - Crowd Pleaser or Game Changer?

HaNks

no more NSMB style games please...even if its online and all that jazz. they don't have the charm of the true 2d mario games or sense of adventure in the 3d titles. a spiritual successor to mario 64 would be my top choice. a 3d mario title with plenty of level variety, would be lovely in HD.

Re: Miyamoto to Show Wii U Mario at E3

HaNks

i'm not in the mood for another side scrolling 2d mario with 3d polygon models, please no. anything fully 3d will be great in HD, or a proper 2D mario game could kick too, tho that's unlikely.

basically mario 64 but with some new mechanics and in HD. doesn't need to be on a tropical island or in space, different themed levels and a nice overworld would be all good.

Re: Miyamoto Keen On New Zelda Based on Link to the Past

HaNks

there hasn't actually been a graphically superior 2D Zelda on a handheld yet. the GBA lttp release had inferior graphics and sound to the SNES original. i'd love something as rich and colourful, without touch screen controls, without the nonsense. just pure zelda 2d goodness.

Re: Rumour: Wii U Components Cost $180, Will Retail at $300

HaNks

@SomeBitTripFan everything is possible. i think a zelda HD revamp is extremely likely, quite possibly the most recent skyward sword, seeing as you can use the wii remote still. tbh i'd be less excited for that than an older title, ideally wind waker or TP...with new controls. unless they added some new content too.
and still waiting on a god damn F-ZERO title. so many possibilities with this new controller, it'll be great for racing games where you could select weapons and stuff. imagine a mario kart where you got to collect multiple weapons and select options for them on the fly on the touch pad, deep strategy.

Re: First Impressions: Mario Tennis Open

HaNks

i think RPG mode was always been in the handheld versions partly cause they were very cut down presentation wise compared with the full 3d console versions. because this is more akin to the console versions i don't see it as a big deal...the online modes and leaderboards will easily make up for it with hardcore gameplay!

Re: Rumour: Wii U Components Cost $180, Will Retail at $300

HaNks

nintendo is going HD! no amount of sony and xbox trolls can make this prospect any less tantalising!!!
time to get those pennies together. they will have some really far along titles to show at e3 and i suspect some HD revamps of older titles coming for the download/online service.

Re: Rumour: Wii U Components Cost $180, Will Retail at $300

HaNks

day 1 because i've owned every nintendo console since the SNES on day 1 :3 and never been dissapointed.

nintendo will have some goodies lined up (new and upgraded rereleases) for launch and the nintendo network will be fully live. also, first runs of consoles are more likely to contain hardware exploits and the like. these days paying full price is as much about paying to play first.

software and to a lesser extent hardware is dropping in price more than ever after a period of time. but this is irrelevant to a lot of day 1 people.

Re: Rumour: Wii U Components Cost $180, Will Retail at $300

HaNks

seems very reasonable, $300 retail launch, which will likely mean £250 in UK (where I am). i really don't think this thing will have the horsepower to do all the nice graphical stuff at 1080p...we'll see. i'll be more than happy if it natively renders at similar resolutions to current gen but looks quite a bit better.

day 1 regardless! next question is what software is on for launch ;]

Re: Nintendo: "Experience of Playing", Not Tech Specs, Key to Wii U

HaNks

to 1080 or not to 1080, that is the question. i have a feeling it may render closer to 720 and do its own upscaling/wrapping for higher resolutions. having to render everything at 1080p would probably be detrimental to the graphics overall. it takes a ton more power to get things going at 1080...thoughts?

and the experience thing...a lot more important ;D

Re: Vigil Games: "Wii U On Par with Current-Gen Consoles"

HaNks

if it's able to render everything at 1080p natively that'll take a lot more power than the 360 and probably the ps3 too. the graphics at that resolution might not be a huge leap from the current generation, maybe that's what this guy means. but it'll be very crisp and plenty detailed.

Re: GAME Group Files for Administration

HaNks

@MrHeli they'll be gone soon too. check out most of the prices on their website...as if they're deliberately hitting the RRP and highest possible price in most cases. pathetic.

Re: GAME Group Files for Administration

HaNks

not sad, buy all my games online. nothing really charming about the high high street prices. hope there's some good closing down bargains, may check them out if i'm in town.

Re: Nintendo Reportedly Has 812.8 Billion Yen in the Bank

HaNks

i hope their cash reserves are well diversified into other currencies and even gold. BOJ are still printing yen like it's gone out of fashion and fast running out of ink. one of most troublesome economies along with US and UK for hyperinflation risk.

Re: Rumour: Donkey Kong 3D Swinging Into View

HaNks

why so much love for DK64...i felt it was inferior to Banjo on a lot of levels. similar formula but just spread thin over an excessively long game. amazing graphics for a N64 title though! loved all those fluorescent lighting effects and the mini games.

Re: Gears of War Developer Expects Wii U Success

HaNks

@grimbldoo i think it's fair to assume they will do a lot more polygons and effects @ 1080p, but the new xbox might be graphically quite a bit closer to the Wii-U than most people thought. especially if it's launching with a high price tag and the xblox is dropping within 12 months of it.

i think the wii-u has the potential to be a huge home run...kids, casual audience and once again the more core gaming audience. whether they can nail the online network will be important there. personally i think i will be very happy with a wii-u and PC (and 3ds) for all my gaming needs in the next several years.

Re: Gears of War Developer Expects Wii U Success

HaNks

new xbox and ps4 will blow the wii-u out of the water graphically, but is that detail really significant in the scheme of things? just means the people that buy games and games machines based on how good the graphics look will be all over them. doesn't effect me in the least.

the wii-u will still have gorgeous HD nintendo games, not to mention the new controller innovations. day 1 buy for me regardless of the price. microsoft and sony will copy the controller concept, perhaps a dual shock 4 for sony, which will still be fundamentally the same as the PS1 analogue pad.

Re: Talking Point: Achievements, Trophies and Wii U

HaNks

i could care less for a formal 'achievement' system like the xbox, i always found it was kind of corny. i'll assign my own value to achieving or doing certain things in a game, i don't need a pop-up with an arbitrary amount of points popping up at random moments. hell, maybe the game will even reward me all by itself...120 stars on SM64...seeing Yoshi on the roof...worth it all by itself.

there's completing a game fully, collecting everything. but a lot of achievements are totally random, things i'd never normally do and only gain importance through the self-validating system. maybe i'm a purist and people love the achievements, but i'd rather be competitive and completionist in a normal sense.

Re: Review: Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour (GameCube)

HaNks

absolutely brilliant game but i feel it was quite a bit easier than the N64 iteration, which remains my favourite.

still, some of the best multiplayer times were had with this on the GC, along with SSBM, Wario Ware, Mario Strikers. great times!
