Re: Review: Luigi's Mansion - Experience The GameCube Classic The Way It Was Meant To Be Played

GuruOfGreatness

I have this pre-ordered at GAME, but, seeing as I never got round to really playing it properly on the GameCube even though it was one of my launch day games, I can't remember an awful lot about it.

Is this game like Luigi's Mansion 2 for the 3DS where there are no real save points where you can't leave off from mid level without losing your progress, unless you complete the level?

Because I LOVED Dark Moon but had to trade it in because the lack of save points infuriated me, because most of the time I only get a chance to game a few minutes at a time, and having to turn off my 3DS or having it run out of battery before I had completed a level and having to go all the way back to the beginning became too annoying.

As much as I want this game, if it's the same as number 2 then I may have to pass

Anyone able to help?

Re: Smash Bros. Ultimate Is Second Most Anticipated Holiday Release, According To US Survey

GuruOfGreatness

Is it wrong that for the rest of the year, I'm most excited about Warriors Orochi 4 for the Switch which releases in a weeks time here in the UK lol? I realise I'm probably the only one lol.

Joint second place for me is Luigis Mansion for 3DS (also releases next Friday) and Super Smash Bros.

I don't have a PS4 or Xbox One anymore so can't look forward to Assassins Creed or Red Dead Redemption 2.

Re: Reggie Says Wii U's Failure Ultimately Led To Success Of The Switch

GuruOfGreatness

Soooooooooooooo, am I the only one who loves and enjoys the Wii U for what it was/is, and loves the Switch for what it is/will become?

They're similar products because of off screen play/not 100% needing a TV to enjoy what they offer, but they're still completely different products as well.

To me the Wii U was not a failure because I LOVED it, and still do; but, I'm not the company making the console and funding it, and if financially Nintendo class it as a failure, then so be it, fine. Not just that but the numbers don't lie. It's a fact that they only sold about 14 million units. As a fan of the console though, it was not a failure.

I loved the Sega Saturn and Dreamcast, and I'm sure you can bet the deeds to your house that SEGA consider them a financial failure, again though, as a fan personally, I don't consider them a failure at all because once again, I absolutely love them.

Re: Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Has Exceeded Expectations Following Strong Sales Outside Of Japan

GuruOfGreatness

Lord I really want to get into these games so, so much, but I suffer from two problems, number one being my attention span for these sorts of games, and number two being the main factor, with that being time. I simply don't have the time or dedication to put a hundred hours or more into a game like this like a lot of people do. If this had come out 25-30 years ago I'd be laughing.

Re: These Officially Licensed Switch Controllers Come With Gyro Support And Mappable Buttons

GuruOfGreatness

Because I so rarely get a chance to game on the the TV, there is usually a chance that my official Pro Controller has run out of battery, or will run out of battery mid-game (regardless of how good the controller is, nothing will ever top that Wii U Pro Controllers battery life of about 90 hours lol), so I am going to wait until Black Friday/Christmas and invest in one of those official, cheap, wired controllers, as I hear they have a 10 foot cable. The one the Pro Controller comes with to charge the thing is really very short in comparison. I love the Splatoon one and the Mario one (both the gold one and the red pattern). They're only around £25-£30 so will wait until I see one for £15-£20.

Re: Grab The New Fortnite Switch Bundle From The Nintendo UK Store, Pre-Orders Now Live

GuruOfGreatness

For some reason I see this being a massive seller over Christmas, because as well as having the addictive game of the year (I personally cannot stand this game just for the record and I don't really understand it either), as it's almost the "budget Switch bundle", especially for parents buying for children.

You have the Smash bundle at £320 and the Pokemon ones at £340 (both of which I'm sure will also sell amazingly), so at £280 with a game that is well known and plastered all over the box as well, and at least £40 cheaper than the other big bundles, and it includes whatever the heck the currency is that you would normally pay for, I can see it being quite an attractive offer.

Strikes me as the bundle that the parents buy, whereby Fortnite then keeps you busy until you've got all your Christmas gift cards and money together, and then you venture out to buy your next game yourself.................at least that is what my parents would have done with me 25 years ago or more lol

Re: Nintendo Reveals Upcoming NES Game Releases For Switch Online Service

GuruOfGreatness

Not really fussed about how slowly the games trickle out TBH or what games are available etc, as I consider it just a nice little extra bonus to the small sum of £17.99 a year.

Plus, when I finally do find time to actually game, as retro as I am, and as old fashioned as I am, and as much as a technophobe I generally am, and as much as I prefer gamings past than gamings future really (yes, I'm one of those sorts of people), when I'm playing my Switch, I want to play whatever is my latest and greatest Switch game, not a NES, SNES, GameCube etc game.

For me, they are just something a little different to kill a few minutes at a time, not ones that I think I would ever stop playing a new Switch title for, for example.

As awesome as it would be to be able to play allllllllllllllllll retro console games on the Switch, from Nintendo, Sega, Atari etc, it strikes me as something I would sign up for for definite, but rarely use.

I'm the sort of person who would rather power up the old, genuine console with its own disc or cartridge (or a mini version like the NES and SNES, or the Commodore 64, all 3 of which I have owned since launch day, and yet all these years on and counting respectively, I have yet to even open them yet let alone set them and play on them).

I realise that I'm probably in the minority here though

Re: Random: Knock-Off Switch Joy-Con Controller Might Not Look Wireless, But It Actually Is

GuruOfGreatness

Back in 1990 's, when controllers were a damn sight more basic, I never hesitated to buy unofficial controllers for any console until I could afford or receive as a gift an official one if necessary, as back then, an unofficial controller might just set you back a fiver, or perhaps a tenner, whilst the official ones were £40-£50. Big money difference for a kid. Now though, with all the bells, whistles and tech that goes into a controller, I don't think I'd ever go unofficial for fear of it a) breaking, or b) somehow breaking the console lol. I suppose now being 32 and earning probably helps too lol 😜

Re: Latest Octopath Traveler Restock In Japan Sells Out Again

GuruOfGreatness

God I wish I had the time and patience to commit to a game like this, Xenoblade etc. 20-25 years ago I would have been all over them. Now, I'd play it for a bit, enjoy it, and then just never find the time to sit there and play it properly again, which would in turn just end up with me trading it back in after 12 months lol.

Re: WWE 2K19 Is Officially Skipping Nintendo Switch, 2K Games Confirms

GuruOfGreatness

It's a shame it's skipping it IMO, as if they managed to get 2K19 up and running smoothly, it would be not only add to the Switch's library, but it would also be some form of vindication for those that weren't happy with 2K18, which is the majority.

Maybe they will spend the next year putting out patches for 2K18 instead, as well as having 2K20 or whatever it ends up being, ready to go.

Re: Mario Tennis Aces Takes The Grand Slam In The UK Charts

GuruOfGreatness

I will undoubtedly get it in the next month or so.

I've got just over £200 in GAME Reward Points and store credit, so it's not the money per se, I'm just trying to be sensible with the Switch and when I get games, as I just don't have the time to play very much anymore, so don't like having more than one new game on the go at a time.

And I only just bought Hyrule Warriors a couple of weeks ago and want to finish that first (it was a toss up between the two but I am a sucker for anything Warriors lol).

Not to mention Wolfenstein 2, Crash Bandicoot, Sonic Mania and and a couple of 3DS Selects games that come out on the 29th of June too (Donkey Kong Country and Mario Maker), so for now Aces can wait a little bit lol

Re: Nintendo May Be Facing Heat From The FTC Over Its Warranty Policy

GuruOfGreatness

I think it's fair for a company, any company, to within reason void a warranty if you have been pre-warned what might happen if something happens to your product that goes against their advice/guidlines for said product.

Reminds me a bit like when everyone was "chipping" their original Playstations and Dreamcasts; there were two places here in Cambridge that would happily do it for you, but they did always pre-warn you that you would be voiding any guarantee the console had as it was breaking the seal.

@Heavyarms55

"I honestly couldn't get into this game. I gave into the hype but didn't find it all that fun. I guess it's just not my cup of tea."

Same here. And I was sooooooo looking forward to it as well after never having even played Rocket League in all those years prior.

I traded it back in a week or so later.

TBH I actually like the concept of the game, and it is fun, but when playing online which is kinda the big selling point of the game, and seeing how good everyone else is, and I don't even get a single touch of the ball, let alone a goal lol, I realised how much I sucked at it, and how much time I would need to put into it to get remotely good at it, and my gaming time is so precious that I don't want to spend it forcing myself to get good at a game.

Re: Heavy FIFA 18 Switch Discount Sends The Footie Franchise to Number One in The UK Charts

GuruOfGreatness

I bought my copy for £49.99 back in December as I wanted a football game, and I wanted to show support for third parties.

Love the game. So easy to pick up and play for just 20-30 minutes at a time if you're at a loose end.

The moment I saw it at £24.99 in GAME on Friday, I went and bought another copy for my brother-in-law for his birthday in a couple of weeks, as I can't see it staying at the £20 mark for very long.

It does seem to be reduced at different prices all over the place, and I think it all started when Amazon had it for £22 for a couple of days last week. Since then it's just shot down in price in retail everywhere lol.

For anyone hesitant about this version, I'm not a football fan WHATSOEVER (I can't stress that enough), except for the World and Euro Cup, so perhaps I'm a bit easier satisfied, but I personally think the Switch version is more than adequate, especially at just around the £20 mark if you think £50 is too much.

Always someone online to have a game with which runs pretty darn smooth, and offline the game runs as smooth as butter and looks very impressive, especially docked obviously.
