Earlier today we covered the trailer for Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition on Switch and we learnt that the game would launch in Japan on 22nd March. So this got us wondering when we would get a release in the West.
As revealed in today's Nintendo Direct, the US release date for Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition Will in fact be 18th May. Here is some lovely box-art to celebrate:
Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition brings together dozens of characters from the Legend of Zelda series in an over-the-top action game. We can't wait to dive back in for more!

Longer than I like, but whatever. At least we have a date nailed down now.
Was it just me or did the graphics in the trailer look higher quality?
Also was hoping to see they added more content. Still looks like they didn’t.
"Definitive Edition?" Like Pokkén DX with its paid DLC?
Tsk, tsk, tsk. Fool me once, Nintendo...
It needs to be less than $60 and come with even more new content than it already is.
Let's cry some more about ports!
Day 1 for me
Yay a date! There goes my May.
I loved this on the Wii U but I’m not sure I’ll double dip. This port would have to be so good it blows the original out of the water.
The original was good but after 60 + hours...not sure I can revisit that game again.
Ports.
Warriors games never manage to hold my interest, and I do already have this on Wii U. I would consider this, if I ever get around to finishing Fate Extella and Fire Emblem Warriors, but not before then.
@ShadJV Ithik we will get the Fire Emblem Warriors treatment 60fps option @720 or 30fps at 1080p
I'm super excited about this! But gutted I have to wait until May lol
Looking forward to this, but they missed an opportunity by releasing it in May. Do they have any first party games in April?
I thought for sure this was gonna come in April, but oh well.
It comes out only a bit after my birthday, that'll be nice.
@Prof_Yoshtonics do you have any idea how much content it has? As a owner of the wiiu version plus dlc $80 and the 3ds $60 it is a ton of content for that much.
I...guess I'll buy something else, then...ugh...
Impa, once more into the fray?
Wow, gonna be a packed May...
Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze, Hyrule Warriors and Dark Souls Remastered all crammed within a 3 week window. And as someone pointed out to me, Street Fighter Collection and Mega Man Legacy Collection as well.
That's incredible.
Right in the middle of my boards huh.
Day one purchase after exams
@faint Yeah I have the WiiU version with most of the DLC. It was a fun game. I guess it's good for people who didn't play it already but, I just wish there was some kind've ambassador program for WiiU owners.
Think it's time I have this one a crack. Never played it on Wii U (that I remember) and it was a bit pants on 3DS so maybe I'll get into it on Switch
Downside to this is that April won't have anything first party outside of Labo. Thank god for South Park!
May is gonna be packed though!
Dang it, such a delay...this is the version I've wanted since I played the 3DS one and couldn't accept the hardware tradeoff for improved features. Game is totally a value even on third buy IMO. Of course, I'm still gonna use GCU at BB to save $12, too...
@JaxonH Don't forget Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection and Mega Man Legacy Collection 1+2!
@IceClimbers
You're totally right.

Switch is getting absolutely stormed with games. I knew this would happen as soon as a year passed and devs saw the Switch was legit and not going anywhere. And mark my words that this is just the tip of the iceberg. These are just games they are able to get out quickly. Ports, AA releases, lower budget titles, etc. By the end of the year, we are going to see even more games releasing with even bigger budgets and top tier releases... it's just going to keep growing and snowballing until the system hits its peak in 2019-2020.
Ugh, just a few more months.
Yet another port. Lame. I have zero interest in this.
Nice, can’t wait to spend 100+ hours again.
On my to buy list, but I'll wait to see if there is even more DLC first. I waited on Fire Emblem Warriors due to that.
@subpopz
If you're happy with the games and I am happy with the games and millions of others are happy with the games... screw em. People are buying the Switch in droves like those Pokémon Go videos with mobs of people trampling each other...
So ya, clearly people are attracted to what's on offer... and by the metric ton at that. Whoever is saying stuff like that... they can just keep on saying it to their heart's content into the nothingness of the Internet. It's not gonna change how you feel or how I feel, and it's certainly not going to change the minds of the millions of people out there rushing to jump on board the Switch train.
We're in for the ride of our lives here. I haven't witnessed a Nintendo console get this much support... since the 90's, GameCube aside. Which, GC got a truckload of 3rd party games, but honestly, at the rate support is picking up speed here, I think Switch is going to exceed it. Certainly when it comes to meaningful support. GC had a ton of shovelware, and only a small percentage were quality 3rd party games, whereas a very large slice of the Switch support is quality content (that's the benefit of games ported which can be cherry picked- focus on bringing the good stuff which has been well received and has the best chance of selling).
I'm thrilled. Oh, also. Note that all those rumored games coming to Switch like South Park, Crash Bandicoot, Okami HD... they all just happened. I am willing to bet a substantial sum that all these other, more recently rumored games- Diablo 3, Dragonball Fighter Z, Call of Duty Black Ops 4... are likewise coming to Switch. We've had multiple sources claiming these games are coming and some of them have shown themselves to be extremely confident of it. I will eat my hat if those games don't make the Switch. They'll just get announced later, once everyone has fully convinced themselves they aren't coming, just like we saw with South Park and Crash. Then one day out of the blue, it'll be BAM! Xenoverse 2 has absolutely crushed the sales charts (gotta be pushing close to a mil sold incl. digital by now?). Bandai Namco is going to be frantically scrambling to get anything with the DB name onto Switch, and any other anime based game (like Naruto trilogy- case and point). Switch is a goldmine right now. And the day of reckoning has finally come. Time to get on board or get left behind- and that's more than just a catchy slogan. Any developer who is not actively doing everything in their power to capitalize on this thriving market will be answering to more than just Switch fans... they'll be answering to their shareholders.
@JaxonH Yup. Fully expecting a ton of ports to come over the couple years in addition to new third party games. For what it's worth, there are more new third party multiplats confirmed for 2018 than there were in 2017. There's gonna be a lot of games coming!!!!
@Hikingguy
I think with Wii, the biggest hype killer (at least for me) was lack of HD. A console can be relatively underpowered and that's totally fine, it can lack certain QoL features and that's totally fine, it can have all sorts of shortcomings that are easily overlooked...
But standard definition was not one of them. That was a real bummer and it's the one thing that really held back hype and excitement. It's just a minimum baseline of quality that is expected. Had the Wii been HD it would've been a lot more appealing. It was still a great system though, and I'm enjoying it's fantastic back-catalog via Dolphin (and even Dolphin VR!)- the games just look and play so great in HD, especially in virtual reality. For the record, I do own all the games physically. I just run them into my PC hard drive for the convenience, preservation of original discs, and HD/VR advantages.
@IceClimbers
And at the end of the day... when the generation is over and people look back at the Nintendo Switch and its library of quality content...
Nobody is going to care which of those games were ported. People aren't going to remember which games were ports and which games were not. Because by then, all the games will be years old. People are going to remember it for how many great games it had, not how many of those great games technically released day and date with other versions.
And I can already tell by how many great games are in the pipeline, we are going to be looking back on a monumentally epic library of hybrid game content with all sorts of cool, Switch-only features like motion controls in DOOM, Resident Evil Revelations with motion and that totally rad gesture-based reloading, touch and motion support LA Noire, swinging Joycon in Mario Tennis Aces, playing Okami HD with real brush strokes via touch on handheld or motion on TV/tabletop...
It's going to be one for the history books my friend.
Not soon enough for me.
@JaxonH it is so scary when you line up the games like that. We haven’t even hit E3 season. Ugh I’m gonna have to work so much OT.
Oh goodness they announced Taiko no Tatsujin. Yep. Signing up for OT asap.
@Ryu_Niiyama
Keep a list of all my preordered Nintendo Switch games on a notepad next to my recliner...
I'm working on my second column already.
I would buy it day one ordinarily, even though I have the Wii U version I am a SUCKER for Warriors games, but I will be away from the 17th so not much point. Might as well wait until I get back.
