Re: Heavy FIFA 18 Switch Discount Sends The Footie Franchise to Number One in The UK Charts

GuruOfGreatness

I bought my copy for £49.99 back in December as I wanted a football game, and I wanted to show support for third parties.

Love the game. So easy to pick up and play for just 20-30 minutes at a time if you're at a loose end.

The moment I saw it at £24.99 in GAME on Friday, I went and bought another copy for my brother-in-law for his birthday in a couple of weeks, as I can't see it staying at the £20 mark for very long.

It does seem to be reduced at different prices all over the place, and I think it all started when Amazon had it for £22 for a couple of days last week. Since then it's just shot down in price in retail everywhere lol.

For anyone hesitant about this version, I'm not a football fan WHATSOEVER (I can't stress that enough), except for the World and Euro Cup, so perhaps I'm a bit easier satisfied, but I personally think the Switch version is more than adequate, especially at just around the £20 mark if you think £50 is too much.

Always someone online to have a game with which runs pretty darn smooth, and offline the game runs as smooth as butter and looks very impressive, especially docked obviously.

Re: Ubisoft Is the Leading Third-Party Publisher on Nintendo Switch

GuruOfGreatness

Got the game at launch, and after nearly 40 hours thus far I know I'm quite near the end. I can't remember where though as I stopped playing it when I got stuck on a level and went and played something else.

It may very well be my favourite Switch game. It's certainly the most addictive.

Worth every penny and deserves every sale.

Completed Oddyssey last night so might go back to this to try and finish it next.

Re: Nintendo Wants To Make Greater Use Of Downloadable Content In The Future

GuruOfGreatness

I never really do DLC , as I never really feel the need to, especially at some of the prices they charge.

Once I've completed a game, that generally means for me, that I'm pretty much done with the game unless it has an online incentive to play for a bit longer too.

Plus I don't like the idea of deliberately leaving things out of games, releasing it unfinished and buggy and then charging people for the privilege of what should have already been in that £50 game they just bought.

And no, I am not a tight person by any means, I find it more just the principle of the thing in some ways.

However, I am all up for DLC when IMO it is done correct, and just like many have mentioned already, Mario Kart 8 on the Wii U is a fine example of that.

They released a fully finished, polished and ready to go game with a ton of content, but then decided to add some extra bells and whistles to make a great game even greater at a very small extra cost.

That is the way to go IMO, not charge £40 extra on top of the £50 you just paid so you can unlock two new levels and new gun.

Re: Rumour: Call Of Duty 2018 Could Be Black Ops 4, And It Might Be Headed To Switch

GuruOfGreatness

Could have sworn I read back in the day that the Wii U ran the best version of Black Ops 2 (not including PC obviously), as it was competing with 360 and PS3 versions.

Either way, I liked it, and I was one of the four people that bought Ghosts for the Wii U too lol, and I thought that ran pretty good too, so I don't see why they wouldn't be able to make a new COD game run on the Switch to an acceptable standard.

I may be in the minority but I REALLY hope that they bring World War Two out as a late port to the Switch.

I don't really like the "realistic sci-fi" ones at all anymore. I gave up on COD when I played 20 minutes of Black Ops 3 and promptly took it straight back as I then realised how much I hated/had grown bored of all the Modern Warfare stuff.

God Bless Battlefield 1 is all I can say to that. One of the finest campaigns in Lord knows how many years; and I know WW2 didn't get as good reviews and praise, but I'd still live to give it a go.

Re: Feature: Memorable Games of 2017 - DOOM

GuruOfGreatness

Over the last 2 months or so I've had about £250 in store credit for GAME, and currently have £84.50 in Reward Points, so I bit the bullet the other day and bought DOOM for £40 and Fifa 18 for £50.

I put Fifa in yesterday and played handheld mode and think it plays beautifully. Looking forward to trying it out in docked mode.

Haven't got round to playing DOOM yet but from all the praise it's got, I am looking forward to starting it.

I was really waiting for a price drop with both games as I would not use real money for them as such at those prices, but it seemed they were getting quite difficult to find from actual shops and NOT marketplace sellers who were selling both titles at around £55-£60 each, so I didn't mind using some store credit

Re: Review: WWE 2K18 (Switch)

GuruOfGreatness

@1UP_MARIO

I saw it the other day on there for £28, but why use real money when I can use gift cards etc at GAME, especially when there's only a £7 difference. Just got in from picking my copy up about 15 minutes ago

Re: Review: WWE 2K18 (Switch)

GuruOfGreatness

Well, it's only £34.99 in GAME, and I have £216 on a gift card and £61.50 on my Reward Card, so I'm gonna take the plunge and go and get mine later on today and hope that it's patched like hell.

We have two GAME stores here in Cambridge, within 5 minutes walk of each other, both of which only have two copies each in stock (even less now that I've had one put aside for me) and none of which were pre-orders lol.

Let's get this buggy mess started lol.

Re: FIFA 18 Nets A Sizeable Update On Switch

GuruOfGreatness

I'm still looking to get this for Switch, but cannot justify ever paying more than £25-£30 maximum (brand new, I don't do pre-owned) for a football game, as a) I'm just a casual football game player as I have no interest in the real sport whatsoever, b) no football game is worth that much of my money (the £40-£50 asking price), and c) football games become completely worthless around 10-11 months after their launch as everyone gets hyped for the next installment.

Having said all that, I still look forward to the day I find it for the right price

Last football game I bought was Fifa 13 for the Wii U for £9.00 on Amazon lol

Re: WWE 2K18 Finally Arrives on Switch 'Starting December 6th'

GuruOfGreatness

@garydbz25

Well I've just ordered my copy from them for £29.86

One thing I don't understand though is why they give an option to pay now, or let them charge you when they dispatch the game?!

Surely you'd just let them charge you when it's been dispatched and not pay them beforehand?

Think I also read that if you pre-pay and then cancel your order, that they only refund you with store credit, or you lose 70p or something and they will refund you properly.

Either way, if I can get a copy for £29.86, I'll be happy.

I never expect too much from wrestling games these days.

Re: Review: L.A. Noire (Switch)

GuruOfGreatness

I will get this physical as I don't ever do digital, but, from top to bottom, how many GB of memory will this eat up?

Only ask because if this is the way forward for large 3rd party games, that I might keep an eye open for a memory card over Black Friday/Christmas.

Re: Review: L.A. Noire (Switch)

GuruOfGreatness

I never played the original so this does interest me, but I think there are other 3rd party games that I would like for the Switch first when I find them at the right price (£25-£30), like WWE 2K18, Doom, Fifa 18 and Sonic Forces. I guess if I see this for around that sort of price over Christmas I may just cave.

Re: Don't Worry, Switch WWE Fans - 2K Hasn't Forgotten About You

GuruOfGreatness

@JudgeMethos

That'll be it then. I reckon it will still come out in 2017, but I think it will be late December, after Christmas maybe, a bit like Captain Toad Treasure Tracker for the Wii U; wasn't that supposed to come out just before Christmas, then got delayed to the 2nd of January, and then had a quiet release on the 28th of December which no one knew about unless you went out into the shops and saw it there as they brought it forward, leading to a hell of a lot of confusion (here in the UK at least).

Re: Guide: The Top Nintendo Black Friday 2017 Deals in the UK

GuruOfGreatness

Ironically, it's just some third party games I'm after for the Switch for the right price between now and Christmas; Fifa 18, Doom, WWE 2K18 and Sonic Forces are four that come to mind. Maybe even L.A Noire considering I never played it first time around. £25-£30 is usually my sweet spot/biting point for all those sort of games.

Switch exclusives or IP I either already have, or have no issue paying full price for

Re: Don't Worry, Switch WWE Fans - 2K Hasn't Forgotten About You

GuruOfGreatness

I read on some retailers website, I think it was either Argos or John Lewis, that they had the release date written down as the 31/12/17 (which is a Sunday, hmmmmm)

Could just be that they put that there to still show it's a 2017 release, I don't know.

But Argos also seem to have the artwork with the "Micro SD Card Required" warning thingy like NBA 2K18 on the front too.

Oh wells, hardly like the Switch is short on games this Christmas

Re: Sonic Forces on Switch Has Solid UK Launch as DOOM Moves Up the Charts

GuruOfGreatness

@SLIGEACH_EIRE My Wii U isn't dead, it may be discontinued but that doesn't change the quality of the games. I've enough to play on it to last for years. I've Wii and Gamecube games still to play. Buying a Switch would only add to the backlog and besides there's only really Super Mario Odyssey that for me I'm missing out on.

Well there's your answer answer then. Play those games instead and be happy, and stop continuously slagging off a console and everything about it when you don't even own the damn thing.

Why even bother following the Switch daily to see how it's doing? Come back in a year or two when things might be to your liking.

Re: Review: Monopoly for Nintendo Switch (Switch)

GuruOfGreatness

@Banjos_Backpack

Well TBH, for me, I LOVE my Wii U still and everything about it. To me, I think it was criminally underrated and not given a fair chance by retailers the press or by consumers, but I'm also aware a lot of the bad issues it had were Nintendo's own doing.

I would still pick Wii U over Xbox One and PS4 every day of the week, and the Switch is really just a pure extension of the original idea. Ideal for my lifestyle.

However, as much as I love my Wii U to bits, I really REALLY do, and as much as I wish it had had a healthier, longer life and beaten the competition a hundred times over, unlike the fella that's lost his lucky charms, I can't sit here and defend a console that is now officially dead to the extent that he does to the point that the Wii U can do no wrong and the Switch can do no right. That is his logic.

The Switch is a hot product that people want, he just needs to accept it, embrace it, and for the love of God BUY one before he continuously trashes it and everything about it. TBH he knows it's a hot product, he knows it's a good product, but he is just an antagonist plain and simple. These people cannot be helped.

In other news I have just completed Fire Emblem Warriors

Re: Review: Monopoly for Nintendo Switch (Switch)

GuruOfGreatness

@Banjos_Backpack

I don't know if he has a point to be honest, as I don't intend on buying the game, as I like the board game as an actual board game; I just know enough to say that such and such a game is not my personal cup of tea, and don't try and force opinion as facts like he does.

Irrespective though, the angry Irishman is still (IMO) the very embodiment and definition of the words "miserable" and "pessimistic".

I'm sure he is just kept on these boards for comedy value for other readers.

The Wii U Warrior is the sort of person that I reckon is fuming that games like Mario Odyssey rate so highly and sell so well.

Re: Review: Super Mario Odyssey (Switch)

GuruOfGreatness

@ValhallaOutcast

"once you game on a monitor you will never need to utilize the main TV again"

Very possibly, but there are two problems with that, 1) That would defeat the object of not alienating myself from my wife as I would probably be in a different room, and 2) I am a 31 year old technophobe. I am quite possibly and very realistically the person on this entire board that is most likely to NEVER ever game on a PC, as I wouldn't even know where to start. I am that far behind on understanding technology that it would probably frighten you lol.

Re: Review: Super Mario Odyssey (Switch)

GuruOfGreatness

@Fake-E-Lee

Absolutely. Though my wife is not into gaming, other than the odd game of Puyo Puyo Tetris and Mario Kart (and although she hasn't played one in years, she LOVES The Sims games), the Switch (and the Wii U TBF) allows me to be a devoted Father, as NOTHING comes before my children, which is why I will never game in front of them, and a loving husband, as, much like you, my wife is genuinely, 100%, truly my best friend also, which means she can do her thing whilst we chat about our day, the children etc, and I can do my thing (on the Switch lol).

I am self employed which means when I get a few minutes or a break, out comes the Switch to play on if I'm in the mood; and then on those oh so very rare occasions when my wife isn't there and the children are asleep, in it goes in the dock and on the main screen.

Though sometimes my wife will have some work to do and just say "you can play on the big screen if you want as I need to finish this before we watch anything", I rarely take her up on the offer, but with a game like Mario Odyssey, I might have to, as I want to see it in all its glory first before I switch to handheld mode.

I sold my PS4 last Christmas, and will be doing the same with the Xbox One this Christmas, as I have now realised, that unless any console ever released in the future does not offer off-screen play of some sort like Wii U or Switch, then I won't/can't buy it, as I have no time to monopolize or game on the main TV, nor would I ever want to when I have my family around me

Re: Review: Super Mario Odyssey (Switch)

GuruOfGreatness

@Fake-E-Lee

"Absolutely man, it's all about balance. The Switch is great for me and my life because my wife is my best friend and I love hanging out with her. We can both hang out in the living room and she can watch something while I play handheld, or read while I play on the big screen, or any other combination of things...all the while carrying on a conversation and being engaged with each other. I keep it off while the kids are up and about, and I take it to work with me in case i need a quick 5-10 minute round to clear my head. It's phenomenal man, I could talk it up for days"

So basically you are me then lol. Seems like we lead very similar lifestyles in that respect

Re: Deals: Upcoming Nintendo Switch Games And Accessories For October And November

GuruOfGreatness

Mario Odyssey and Fire Emblem Warriors will be day one for me. WWE 2K18 AND FIFA 18 will be as soon they come down to around £25.00 during Black Friday, and all the others will just bloody well have to wait lol.

I'll probably cave and get some more if I'm honest like Sonic Forces, as it's not really the money side of things for me, it's the actually having time to play the games, which is why huge games like L.A Noire, Skyrim etc can not only wait for a price cut, but they'll have to wait until I'm done with the games that have more priority.

Add all this to a stupid huge Wii U back catalog that I can't seem to break too lol

Re: ARMS Version 3.1.0 Is Now Available

GuruOfGreatness

@MariOnline

I've had the same issue with Splatoon 2 and Mario and Rabbids ESPECIALLY lol (25 hours and counting). I really want to get back to having some time with ARMS and Bomberman before all the Christmas releases start rolling out as I feel like I have barely touched them since I got the Switch (which I haven't TBF).

Re: Video: Here's What FIFA 18 Looks Like On Nintendo Switch

GuruOfGreatness

I'll need to get it as I need to have a Fifa/football game on every console I own, but I have to wait until it gets to around £20 or less, and then I'll never upgrade it. Fifa 13 on the Wii U sorts my football fix just fine still.

Looks pretty sweet on the Switch too and love the thought of tabletop mode for some reason with other people.

Re: Rumour: Source Who Leaked L.A. Noire Switch Port Drops Hint That Grand Theft Auto V Is Next

GuruOfGreatness

@gatorboi352

Well considering there are no AAA games just yet it's hard to tell. I CAN say though that I would not have played half as much Splatoon 2 or nearly completed Mario and Rabbids were it NOT for being able to play when I like.

I can only assume that a quick 20 minutes of a game like GTA here and there, as and when, would mean that I actually get to experience the game.

Re: Rumour: Source Who Leaked L.A. Noire Switch Port Drops Hint That Grand Theft Auto V Is Next

GuruOfGreatness

@NEStalgia

Setup, knockdown, courtesy in the presence of other human beings. Being able to pick games up for intermittent play in various locations even within the house (waiting for the timer to ding in the kitchen, laundry room, wherever.) there's plenty of "wasted moments" in a day you can cram in some gaming....if it's instant on convenient. Versus the setup of the whole AV system just to get into a game you can only play when sitting in that one location.
Sure you get SOME time to play in that one location....but that's where Switch is good. You play your TV games as normal when you have time. But you can chip away at the content in other settings when you get the chance right on the same machine...no save transfers or anything, and then just plop it onto the TV dock again if you want to play with the TV again.
If you live alone it may not seem like much of a big deal. If you don't live alone it's the difference between being a gamer and not!

This!!!! 100% THIS!!!

Re: Rumour: Source Who Leaked L.A. Noire Switch Port Drops Hint That Grand Theft Auto V Is Next

GuruOfGreatness

@gatorboi352

Because on the go, I can pick up and play for 20 minutes if I get the chance, or on the toilet, or at work (I'm self employed do that helps).

At home I have a wife and two children. I can't play whilst being a Father full stop, as I want to be with my children. I CAN however play off screen in the evenings when it's just my wife AND I, if she is watching some rubbish on the telly or if it's something I don't mind watching but feel I can watch without my full concentration.

Then there are those very, very rare occasions when it's just me and I'll play on the big TV.

Quite simple really.
