Re: Leaked Famitsu Column Suggests Sakurai Considered Rollback Netcode For Smash Bros. Ultimate

Gridatttack

I suppose rollback can't really be done due to what it entails (I've heard that it simulates another game state in the background) and I can see getting out of control due to items and multiple players.

However if the game had a dedicated 1 on 1, no items mode, pretty sure it could be done, but the limit is based on how they designed online to not be segmented like it was on Wii U.

Re: Talking Point: Are Shiny Pokémon Too Common These Days?

Gridatttack

They were always devalued due to the existence of external tools that allow to "paint" them :/

Like, also people give away bunch of them for free, so it's nice for people to get access to them, so I see them more in the end as an alternate look for a pokemon.

I like the higher odds too. I have the shiny charm for the past games and from what I've played, never encountered a random shiny unless I deliberately was hunting for one haha.

Of course there's also shiny hunting and the rush of getting that one pokemon you've been wanting to never gets old.

Re: Random: Epic Goes To War With Apple, Asks Players To "Join The Fight" And "Free Fortnite"

Gridatttack

Apple has nothing to lose.

This is pointless too; Epic is not the hero when they themselves do other questionable things.

The Apple ToC clearly mentions that if they have digital goods that are bough and used for the app must use the Apple Pay service (even if we know apple is scummy with how much it takes of the cut)
and Epic (should have) fully known this when they submitted the game into the store.

Yes, Apple is a scumbag, but you are using their platform so you can't really do much to try and "bend" the rules.

And besides this wouldn't be fair if they allow Epic to get away with, since all other apps are subjected to this too.

And really, Epic is the one who has more to lose from this (just see the Spotify vs Apple drama too)

Re: Mario Kart Tour's Pirate Tour Adds King Bob-Omb And Pirate Bowser Jr.

Gridatttack

This is insane. Tour has all the cool retro tracks which have been updated and look wonderful, but the gameplay/gacha sucks big time.

Random characters added? Cool, more options; I'm down with it.

I wish MK8 would get more DLC or something, or maybe a new entry. I'm really liking some of the decisions they made for retro tracks and how they look in general.

Re: Classic Nintendo Source Code And Prototypes Leaked Online

Gridatttack

It's incredible really. So much stuff. People found the sprite of Mario Kart before it was even Mario Themed (the random person Miyamoto commmented)

However indeed, how this was obtained is not good.

I'll wait for sources to compile and catalog everything. From an historical and preservation standpoint, this is huge.

Re: Review: Mr. Driller: DrillLand - As Much Fun As It Was 18 Years Ago, If Not More So

Gridatttack

This looks incredible! I remember way back then when the first entry in the series I played was the one on PS1. It was really fun!

I was sad to hear the awesome gamecube one didn't released over the west, but even if it took too long to finally get it, it seems it was worth the wait.
I got the GBA one too a few past years and it was awesome as ever!

Really looking to play this one finally, especially on PC 👀

Re: Billy Mitchell's Donkey Kong And Pac-Man Scores Are Reinstated By Guinness World Records

Gridatttack

@GameOtaku yes. in theory, based from the King of Kong documentary, seems like Billy provided the tapes or that he was supposedly playing live (but no one saw him), so they took that as a "proof" that it was done legitimately.

Regarding emulators being used, I don't mind as long as the leaderboards are separated. It's better that way because emulators don't really strive to emulate hardware constraints too, and hardware can have an impact on things in-game in some cases. This is most notably on speedruns, where load times or lag is less on an emulator, which can have an impact on the gameplay (such as higher framerate being able to react faster, etc.)

Re: Billy Mitchell's Donkey Kong And Pac-Man Scores Are Reinstated By Guinness World Records

Gridatttack

@Xiovanni I doubt it. One can verify that the level loads like that oneself by downloading that version of MAME, the DK rom, and looking at the video Billy provided. It's not something that can't be checked by yourself. Regarding board revisions, I'm sure that is documented somewhere (As the DK cabinets are populat), and besides, what are the odds of a hardware cabinet loading exactly the same as an emulator made at a later date? Seems to me that MAME handles loading differently and can't really replicate what the hardware did, so that concern isn't really relevant. Most emulators don't really have that hardware accuracy for that to be realistic as an "excuse" (and if we wanted to verify, we will need to get the latest version of MAME that was available at that time period)

About using an emulator, yes. Game speedruns and records usually have a separate category for both real hardware an emulator records. The problem here is that Billy is attempting to pass an emulator record as a record done on legitimate hardware (and of course, the legitimate hardware record has more weight than an emulator one)

Re: Billy Mitchell's Donkey Kong And Pac-Man Scores Are Reinstated By Guinness World Records

Gridatttack

@Elvie yeah, the old staff of Twin Galaxies is just a big can of worms :/ And that seems to unfortunately be the case, that perhaps Guinness caved on legal threats. I wonder what about the other supposed lawsuits Billy has against other entities will pan out, and If I recall, the current Twin Galaxies counter-sued Billy too, so it seems the show will still go on for some time :/

Re: Billy Mitchell's Donkey Kong And Pac-Man Scores Are Reinstated By Guinness World Records

Gridatttack

How? The supposed footage of his records (at least for Donkey Kong) clearly shows the game levels loading exactly as they load in the MAME emulator, which has been proved that an original arcade always loads the levels in a different fashion. Those witness don't amount of anything if the hard evidence is there, and a certain witness loses credibility when it has been shown that irregularities in the verification process has been shady at best.

Remember, whether Billy is good at games is not questioned here, is about Billy lying that he never used MAME where evidence shows otherwise.

Re: Legal Crackdown On Mario 64 PC Port Not Enough To Stop Modders From Improving It

Gridatttack

Remember what Reggie said regarding AM2R; they are ok with mods and fangames, but when they see something that has potential to be profitable, then they take action.

Also, for the people that say that this is a "waste of time", get your head off the clouds; people are doing this because they like the game and they want to experience the game in multiple other ways, like like a hobby. If it's not on your cup of tea, then cool (while it's true that is a gray area, I'll stand with what Reggie said regarding AM2R, until another Nintendo representative touches on the subject again, and even is it's another IP, people are just having fun in the end)

This time, I suppose Nintendo is adamant to take it down because it's a way to play a complete game of theirs for free, which has potential that has to be rereleased, like what happened with metroid: samus returns and AM2R being released a few months before, which is completely justified if they want this taken down.

Re: Famitsu Poll Reveals Readers' Favourite Fire Emblem Games

Gridatttack

Geneaology of the Holy War is #1. As expected.
Aweakening was my first FE game, but after playing the Jugdral games, I was blown away by the sheer presentation the game has (even if some areas really would benefit from modern systems or questionable map design at times)

Hoping for a remake!

Re: Nintendo To Remaster 'Most Of Super Mario’s 35-Year Catalogue' For Switch in 2020, New Report Says

Gridatttack

I'm down for Sunshine & 64 remakes. I really don't like playing 64 on itself, but if they rework it with better camera handling and visuals, I'm willing to giving it another go (but will it be the 64 DS version is the question)

All down for sunshine though! I'd love to see the landscapes in HD. If they remake the older 2d mario games, I hope they aren't as lazy as their SMAS counterparts and actual take care in translating the levels themes correctly.

Still, I will surely end up buying them all!
