This is the current era folks, when most people are affected by chronological snobbery :/
In any case, could Marina look older due to being an octoling? Haven't spoiled the story mode of 2, so wondering what has happened since the first game 👀
Great! This means I can still use wired controllers and not stop for recharging the obnoxious wireless controllers :>
It's funny how people are complaining it got support. There's already an adapter and Nintendo gave support for it.
Seems like the people that are complaining about the gamecube controller just want some attention :> (because it's not like making support for this controllers hurt anything, but people like complaining for everything, so I'm not surprised)
It's more than welcome to use these than pay almost 300$ for 4 pro controllers.
My problem with this on how it seems this is just Awakening & Fates characters, while the characters for other entries feels like they were added in without much thought :/
@CreamyDream I actually forgot to mention. From what I've recall, it seems that all the enemies were updated with an extra battle animation.
Say for example, the Yo bros from Hoohoo university now strike this 'cool' pose after a couple of cycles of the normal animation, or the Clumphs at Joke's end now scratch their nose.
I thought this was pretty cool, because it adds more personality to the enemies.
@Spacey I wonder, why some characters designs being changed is cancel-worthy?
It's not like the entire designs were change; only the toads NPC, Dr. Toadley replacing the magikoopa in Little Fungitown, and around 4 enemies got their design changed.
The rest is pretty much the same with the updated graphics and doesn't really hampers a lot like some people claim to be...
@CreamyDream yes, of course, I could continue replying because I have seen the entire game and can vouch that things like "character sprites is less expressive and comical" isn't as bad as they seem to be & depends on the person, but the whole point of this was to let people who read this review to have more sides on the matter whenever to buy this or not :>
Though, indeed, the current price tag is really a bummer. Wonder if that would have been the case if this was a digital-only release.
@CreamyDream "Its graphics also aren't objectively better."
That depends. The GBA version accomplished what it could within the hardware, but the graphics here are "objectively" better because the 3DS hardware can accomplish more than the GBA
Also, you keep referring to "something integral to the original experience" which is debatable; it's true that the NPCs were more varied on the GBA and the controls somewhat better, but the core experience on being on an unique setting in the mario universe isn't hampered here to flat out dish out that the remake isn't worth.
The VC might be out there, but when this game eventually drop price in the after market, it's a more appealing choice, because in reality, it's better to play the GBA version on real hardware than on an emulated version with non-native resolution and washed down color palette.
@CreamyDream "A lot of that is gone in the sequel since a lot of the NPCs are now generic toads and koopas."
I don't see how `a lot` is gone since it pretty much that removal affects only in the first part of the game & at little fungitown (& the giant koopas blocking the way)
What made the bean bean kingdom unique is still there.
@Josh2396 "real dealbreaker for those that have played the original". Well, I did and I don't find it a deal-breaker, but I can't say I'm not disappointing.
And well, I guess it's depends on how much one has a perception of 'effort'. I've always been critical to SMAS on how lazy it feels, but here at least, I feel they indeed tried their best to update the graphics while respecting the source material (with the exception of the character designs you mentioned)
And oh, it might be a spoiler, but from what I recall, they changed most, if not all the koopaling battles, which I felt it was a nice surprise, since I felt the original battles were too similar between all of them.
@Josh2396 true, it's indeed a shame that said character designs were removed, but they aren't really a 'feature', it's more of an aesthetic change that doesn't affect the gameplay.
(In the case for Geno it makes sense, due to licensing issues)
@EmmatheBest Yoko herself remixed the music, so it boils down if you like the GBA hardware sound more or not. (Or nostalgia goggles) And keep in mind since she composed the original game, it might be that these iterations are what might she truly envisioned back then...
Also, I was thinking the same thing while playing through this, but you have to ask yourself: It's been some time since one might have played this (last time I did was 10 years ago) and after such a long time of playing the other entries & other games, it seems that one simply became better at playing games.
So awesome!
The lightning is impeccable & the music is nice. Enjoyed every bit of the game.
Why are people saying that they aren't a huge improvement obviously don't know what they're talking about.
I rather have these one that the high contrast one from the GBA :>
Amazing remake, for sure. The graphics are amazing and the lighting is impeccable. It just looks overall so much better & conveys the atmosphere nicely.
Since I'm pretty much done playing this, I think I'll keep my copy sealed, because this is such an awesome remake. (In fact, I stopped playing Samus Returns for this)
I guess people will complain it's easier, because from I've could tell, some stats around enemies have been reworked.
@Lone_Beagle they didn't and I guess it depends on your tastes, because the rearranges were done by Yoko herself I think it now shows what she might truly had thought back in the day when composing them back when the original was released (BTW, the music has been leaked, so you can already listen to it)
Hoping if things go well they will eventually launch an exclusive title for the switch, so they can fully exploit the switch capabilities and not be hindered by a port of a game that was designed to run on another console in the first place.
I couldn't get them before because I didn't had a powerful enough PC to play the game smoothly or another console, so definitely buying these games from bethesda.
But, how much extra space on an SD card will it require?
@Turbo857 again, all about graphics. They might look better on SNES for obvious reasons, but they lost the atmosphere the levels originally conveyed. Of course I know how the levels are because (unfortunately) SMAS is the version I have played the most.
Again, in SMAS, you had the same backgrounds with no variations. Almost all world 3 water levels use the noon waterfall BG, whereas in the NES it was an orange color (which gave the feeling of being in the sunset) Where's the background in different palettes? (Like in Yoshi Island)
8-1 just feels like a regular world 1 level (with the exception of the night grass background) and 8-2 had the white desert feeling (where in SMAS it's just a night time world 2-2)
You might feel that this is trivial, but after having played so much the newer versions, I find a refresher to look into the original colors on the NES.
And regarding SMB1 and TLL, there's a physics glitch when brreaking blocks while moving. It's certainly not unplayable, but it's really annoying in underground levels and most levels in TLL since they use bricks in a lot of places.
TL;DR the NES version has more variations regarding the background/colors used.
SMAS fails and is a cheap remake of the originals.
The NES levels have more personality and variety. You can't deny that world 8-1 & 8-2 from SMB3 are better on the SNES, because they lost the cool atmosphere the levels had. World 3 had almost all the levels on a sunset theme.
SMB1 had broken physics. TLL lost it's original graphics... I could go on and on.
(GBA versions are better than the ones at SMAS :v [except the voices])

This looks like a nifty puzzle platformer.
Definitely giving this a go.

Well, this does looks more interesting than sun & moon.
Waiting for more news if there's any postgame or something.
Re: Reggie on GameCube Controller Support on the Switch
@AugustusOxy except if the adapter hardware is generic enough that it uses components that third parties use to manufacture peripherals like this.
You know... part of that industry is standardized, so a thing like this shouldn't come by surprise
Re: Reggie on GameCube Controller Support on the Switch
So people that were complaining about `supporting` it were really just to seek attention?

Re: Exclusive: Game Freak Explains Why We Should All Play Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon
"there's a big post-story scenario"
It better be. And I hope it is indeed a big story/area, kinda like in B2W2 where half of the region was post-game.

Re: Review: Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions (3DS)
@Maxz I feel that the current preview screens don't make justice on the new graphics.
My gripe with the original game is how all the graphics have these poppy bright colors due to the original GBA not being backlit.
I feel that here, it allows for the places to actual look more like what they're supposed to be.

@xPH03N1Xx86 the game is easier than the GBA original due to the updated jump attack & some bosses having slight stats tweaks.

@Josh2396 how is it a deal breaker for only the toads in the first section of the game (and some in little fungitown) and one enemy?

Re: Preview: Jumping for Joy With Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions
@Henmii the only change I noted so far is that the Mecha-Chomp from Woohoo university was replaced by Mechakoopas.
Other than that, all enemies seems to be as they appeared in the original.
Re: Preview: Jumping for Joy With Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions

Re: Random: Metroid and Justin Bailey Revisited - With Some Interesting Finds
@Chozo download the NES metroid password generator and start typing random words.
You will find some do work due to the vast information & variables the game keeps track of.
Re: Random: Metroid and Justin Bailey Revisited - With Some Interesting Finds
Too bad that JUSTIN BAILEY doesn't mean anything at all.
It just happened to be the popular password that spread around.
You can download the metroid password generator and come up with sentences too.
Also, since the swimsuit armor is stored, you can start a fresh game with it by setting 2 on the second-to-last digit on both lines (sections 2 & 4)
Re: DOOM Will Be 720p When Docked, And Unsurprisingly There's No 'Motion' Aiming
Well, sad to hear. Hoping that in future years, the 32GB cartridge cost is reduced greatly.
Also, is the motion controls really needed? A game of this caliber doesn't need a gimmicky casual control scheme like that :>
