Taiwan's Digital Game Rating Committee has just rated Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The game has not yet been officially announced by Activision, but as you can see above - the box art has already been uploaded.
While we wouldn't normally cover news like this for other platforms, we couldn't help ourselves this time around simply because of how much Crash Bandicoot love Activision has already given Nintendo fans this generation.
Although there's no mention of the Nintendo Switch, with any luck - this release follows a similar pattern of Activision's previous Crash games. For example, the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy (handled by Vicarious Visions) was exclusive to the PS4 for an entire year, and a year later was released on Switch, Xbox One, and PC.
Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled got a simultaneous release, and the Spyro Reignited Trilogy was initially released on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in 2018 and later on announced for Switch and PC - with a release following in 2019. Interestingly - Toys for Bob - the Spyro Reignited Trilogy developer, is the same team working on Crash Bandicoot 4.
Vicarious Vision, as you might have heard, has been busy with the remaster of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2 - due out this September and notably not announced for the Nintendo Switch.
Do you think there's a chance of Crash Bandicoot 4 getting an eventual release on the Switch (assuming this latest rating is accurate)? Leave a comment down below.

Wait, a new Crash game on PS4 ? 😮
Well...
I will take a look of the gameplay.
Whichever version (PS4 or Switch) will be, i will choose 1 version only.
Edit:

Something written on Xbox One version.
Sure there's a chance, maybe.
Who knows? Not enough info yet.
"Let's make an Xbox and PS4 version but not a PC/Switch version"
Only Activision could use this logic
The odds are very good due to the Switch’s popularity.
Well, if it takes a year to arrive we can all roll out eyes when it does and say: 'It's about time!'.'
I expect to see it on Switch a year after its released on other platforms.
And when its announced in a Nintendo direct we'll all be saying "It's about time!"
I have Crash N sane trilogy for switch and I couldn’t complete it yet.
Let's hope they don't find a way to shoehorn microtransactions into this Crash game.
While I enjoyed them as a kid, the old games feel incredibly outdated now even in their remastered form. I'm not interested in a new game in the series unless it's drastically different and improved.
Don't see why it wouldn't be considering N Sane trilogy and CTR were on Switch. But yeah, even if we have to wait for the Switch version, a new Crash game is super exciting.
I doubt it. Most new triple-A games don't come to Switch or come out a very long time afterwards. Publishers don't seem to take it seriously, but i don't use any other games consoles anymore so I don't mind. There's already too much to play from the recent eshop sale.
Suppose it depends how vast the game is. If its like the trilogy sure, but even bigger worlds and taking advantage of current gen tech? Probably not.
@Anti-Matter "Xbox One game playable on Xbox Series X"
It's backwards compatible (duh, all X1 titles are) but it doesn't have a version specifically compiled for XSX
The game won't be on Switch or PC at launch.
This will probably be a similar situation to Spiro Trilogy, which released on PS4/XBO in Nov 2018 and on NSW/PC in Sep 2019.
No Switch, no buy, simple as that.
I think it will come to switch if not at the same time as PS4 and XBX at least a few time later (which would suck tbh).
In any case, I think i'll buy it for PS4. I think Crash is more at home with PS than on Nintendo...dunno why.
@BenAV disagree.
Never played the games as a kid, but have played the originals and remasters as an adult. Whilst the formulas are clearly from an age gone by, the games themselves are still fun and, in no way, feel frustrating, "old" or outdated.
Pretty sure I own Crash Bandicoot 4 already, on the PS2. I think it was called "Wrath of Cortex"?
I really love the pun! I wonder if it will come out on the Switch or just very late like Spyro.
I absolutely loved the N sane trilogy! Purchased it on PS4 day 1 and also on Switch day 1, I'll buy it for the Xbox One X too one of these days just to have the full 4K version. Same with this game, I'll triple dip on all 3 consoles, so I hope it comes to Switch also:)
@Coach_A I like your profile picture of your crash game I have, but I don’t know why you never played crash before.
As a super late, overpriced port? Sure, I could see Activision doing that.
It'll probably still come to the Switch, just not on the same year. There are Crash Bandicoot fans on the Switch platform now, it would be a shame for the sequel to skip it entirely.
@DTfeartheBEARD How does triple dipping work? I get double dipping in the sense that I MIGHT understand why having Witcher 3 on Switch and PC for cross saves, but to have Crash on all three console versions and having to replay the game again from start to finish and no save data between versions, I am genuinely curious about what makes someone buy multiple versions of the same game.
If I bought multiple versions of a game, it was rare. Resident Evil 4 on Wii was worth it for motion controls for aiming and the extra content not on GCN. A friend of mine had Street Fighter IV on both PS and Xbox to challenge different friends and players (he also used an arcade stick so controls didn’t matter much).
Never played a crash game but im not a fan of the game play style. Tho I think it’s really neat that these characters are being brought back I hope to see more
I don’t understand the appeal of these games. I played the first one when I was quite young and instantly thought it was terrible and as a kid I played some rubbish! (Bugsby and Coolspot anyone?). Who ever thought that running towards the camera was a swell idea for most of your game is truly sadistic lol. That was enough to leave an ever lasting bad taste in my mouth even when they drastically changed the format of the other games.
I feel spoiled by early sonic and most mario games. I feel bad for Rayman who definitely should be the third-party king mascot of platforming. (Although secretly I hate the feel of his jumping)
In coming tangent rant: What’s with the terrible feel of rayman and sackboy when they jump. Why is it so bad!
Its so funny I just got crash on the switch last night I'm on the third game now would love to see this won on the switch.
@Leo2Kirby nonsense, ea do it all the time
If it's a game I really enjoy then sometimes I buy multiple versions of the same game on different consoles. It doesn't bother me that I would have to start a game over playing it on a different system. For example I have Bioshock 1, 2, and infinite on the Xbox 360 and the Bioshock Collection for PS4 but that didn't stop me from buying it again on Switch. I also have RE4 on Gamecube, Wii, PS4, and Switch...
Well either way, I’ll most likely be picking it up, I love me some crash. Not everyone’s cup of tea, but neither is a cup of tea
I get the feeling if Crash was released first on Switch it would be judged on the standards Nintendo have set for platformers.
By being released 6 months later it somehow gets away with ropey controls and collision detection.
Let me guess, this is fake news? I mean, there's not even a proper anouncement. Not even a trailer.
Are you lot sure you want to stay a nintendo oriented news site? Feels like you're kinda reaching to get your news quota by constantly saying "will this come to switch" on games that aren't announced for Switch.
I hope they make a new Sotto next
Switch version or no I'm excited!
My ideal: it comes to Switch and to celebrate he's also added to Smash Ultimate!
@Henmii It's a leak, if there was a proper announcement there wouldn't be a leak. And you're not going to get a trailer with a leak from an online store either.
Any chance of telling us what they rated it?
It still amazes me that after all these years that the Switch has been on the market the developers don't put any effort to bring games to it at the same time as the other platforms.
The remaster of Tony Hawk not coming to the Switch is shocking.
In regards the new Crash Bandicoot, I didn't see any gameplay footage but I'd assume that the game wouldn't demand too much of a system so a Switch version would be possible.
Activision and EA are definitely the worst offenders.
With 50+ millions of consoles sold you would expect the developers to invest more on the platform.
Is this a new game or remaster
If they will use the same engine as the remastered than it will be a possibility to have this one on switch later( they probably want us to double dip on switch because they are greedy *****)
@sandman89
A new game so double fingers crossed, one to be a good game( all crash game made After the trilogy were garbage) and second to have this ported on switch with tue same care they putted with the trilogy
After buying Spyro Reignited Trilogy on Xbox One, I'm NOT falling for the exact same trap again. Switch version or bust, Activision!
@ShinEon News flash: The Crash Trilogy collection and Crash Team Racing both came to Switch, and Crash games have also been on the Wii, DS, GameCube and Game Boy Advance.
but there is already a crash 4 the wrath of cortex
It will probably come over, but later on, as usual...
Crash games sell like gangbusters on Switch. Remember when the N-Sane Trilogy was at the top of the UK charts for over a month when it released on Switch in 2018? If Activision enjoys revenue, they will have commissioned a Switch version instantly.
@Anti-Matter it says Xbox one games playable on Xbox one X
Yus! I knew it would only be a few days after those puzzles got sent out.
Played the N.Sane Trilogy on PS4 and was about halfway through the second game before my data corrupted
I recently bought the N Sane Trilogy and playing through the first game, when did they get tough? I'm joking but sometimes I feel as if I was better at platformers back then compared to now lol. I still enjoy it and plan to beat them in order, the eshop sale made the purchase an even better deal. I do hope this new one comes on the Switch but yeah I remember a 4th one already existing but we shall see when more news surfaces.
The fact that we basically have to beg for games like this to come to switch is getting quite annoying. Nintendo is so lazy and content with being 3rd best.
@VegasToad
I strongly agree. And with the arrival of PS5 and Series X, this situation will be even worse.
I feel like multi-platform with Switch is gonna be dry as sin when everything is being developed for PS5 and Series X if they don't end up making a upgraded Switch version with more power.
@VegasToad 3rd best? Switch sales have wiped the floor with Xbox despite being released years later!
I thought Crash Bandicoot 4 was The Wrath of Cortex this whole time!
@Anti-Matter It says it’s compatible with the Series X
Xbox and Playstation first then other systems after. If it's released on everything at same time it will be seen as a small game and less Xbox and Playstation players will buy it at full price.
Guess I'll get a PS4 now! Always thought crash was a worthy Mario competitor in the 90s. So much cooler than Sonic.
Now that‘s news for me, I didn‘t even know they were making a new game. I mean, given the succes they had with the trilogy it made sense that they were going to develop a new one but haven‘t heard anything official yet. Noice!
Wait
So Wrath of Cortex is being retconned?
That means Twinsanity and Titans/Mind over Mutant are being retconned too
Crash: Crates of Future Past
@Toy_Link
I wish people would realize that they do this intentionally. People will buy for PS4 then buy it again on Switch for portability. Sure some will wait for a Switch release but enough people will double dip to make it profitable.
Remember in japan they called it super mario bros 4 but here in America it's called super mario world, I bet that's what's happening here, in Taiwan they call it crash bandicoot 4 it's about time but here in America it will be called crash bandicoot it's about time but with no 4
Can’t fathom not releasing a Switch version at the same time, N Sane trilogy is one of the best selling third party titles on Switch and Crash Team Racing also sold really well when it was released on the same launch date. I actually wonder if it’s technical performance related reasons.
I hope we get another Spyro game! But my fear is that it will again be a timed exclusive and I better play these games on PC...
Hope it eventually comes to Switch. And yes, it was about time that Crash and Coco had a completely new adventure.
@KingMike Wrong. It was called Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex, not Crash Bandicoot 4: The Wrath of Cortex, that's why it was not the 4th part of the series but just the 4th game in a row
@edgedino no, it is not crash b 4 the wrath etc but just crash b the wrath etc
@BlackenedHalo The Japanese versions of the two Crash games of that gen were numbered 4 and 5 (PS2 got a total of four Crash games, but I suppose the latter two were next-gen backports. And Japan did not get those on PS2.)
Although I suppose one could argue since that wasn't the native region of the franchise, it shouldn't count as canon.
(unlike counting Super Mario World as SMB4 because of the Japanese title, since that was its native version)
@KingMike You're right but I think it's much much simpler than that. People know that the N.sane Trilogy has three games and it was a recent success so now Activision presents 4. It's just marketing.
Capcom also skipped Code Veronica and Revelations when numbering the main games and then released Revelations 2. Resident Evil VIII will actually be XI.
Yes but later down the line.
@Ogbert,
I would call it a rumor. Shops don't know anything, not before companies tell them anything. Besides the title is complete bull. I don't buy it, not before there's a trailer!
Besides: Why not Crash 5, seeing as the Wrath of Cortex is number 4. Have they forgotten about that all of a sudden?
@Henmii absolutely fine to be sceptical I’m not saying this definitely 100% true. You just seem to be expecting a trailer from what is at best a leak at worst a fake. Obviously you’re not going to get that in either of these cases.
@Henmii There's a trailer now.
@Peach64,
Thanks for the heads-up! Now its official (still a strange title though)! A bit weird the way it was cut, but from the trailer I get that Crash and Coco have been redesigned (and Cortex to a extent to, still the same voice-actor luckily), old fashioned gameplay, but with masks/helmets that give you powers, playable Cortex and levels with Sonic-like grind-rails. Could certainly be fun. The kicker: Not confirmed for Switch yet! Come on, that MUST happen!! Oh, and the trailer music was bs.
Update: There's a proper gameplay trailer on youtube. Yes, it looks really nice.
