Update: Well, do you want the good news or the bad news? Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2 has now been officially confirmed, but it seems like it'll be skipping Switch. The two remasters will launch for PS4, Xbox One, and PC via the Epic Game Store on 4th September.
Original Article: In recent times, we've been hearing lots about a potential comeback for the Tony Hawk's Pro Skater series. It now seems that the cat's well and truly out of the bag, with remastered releases of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 and 2 expected to be revealed imminently.
A number of people have been sharing messages online, claiming to have received text messages from Tony Hawk himself about the new remasters. We know, we know - that sounds like the worst source for a news article you've ever heard - but Tony does have a public phone number that is used to share marketing materials with fans.
The reports have been corroborated by trusted insider Wario64, who shared the following image to social media today:
It reads, "We are bringing back Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 & 2! Original maps, original skaters and songs from the original soundtrack, plus new features!"
It's been suggested that today's Summer Game Fest announcement, due to go live any second now, will officially confirm the new titles.
Would you like to see these two classics be remastered? Do you hope they'll be treated to a release on Switch? Tell us below.

This is good news if they do it right. THPS HD was made by the same guys who made THPS5 so that was kind of a mess, a proper remastering would be great to have.
There are zero good reasons that this should skip Switch.
My body is ready
While as switch version looks hard to port with the same fidelity, I see it could come next kinda like how the spyro an crash trilogies went down. Anyways, will buy for sure <3
Hoping for a 3+4 collection later next (and how about THUG 1+2 plus wasteland too? )
These are very good memories, but in the light of games like Session and Skater XL I am not interested anymore. While saying that I believe that lot of players that are not focused on real skateboarding will love to return playing these remasters and finding out how they didn't aged well.
3 was the best too...
Ugh...
So here I am
Doin' everything I can
Holdin' on to what I am
Pretendin' I'm a superman
💔😔
Oh man oh man I’m so glad I play other consoles than Switch. Brilliant news, they still play great and if they include reverts, manuals and other additions to the games over the years, this will be an absolute winner.
I missed the HD compilation on 360 as it was taken down due to the song licensing expiring. This is great news as I love the first 2 games (3 is not bad either). I will be getting this for PS4, unless they come to their senses and put it on Switch.
I played THPS on N-Gage of all things and loved every second of it. Did everything there was to do. I would've liked to play this on Switch. Who knows, maybe they'll port it later?
@Late
The GBA ones were great, too. Put Vicarious Visions on the map!
I doubt it will skip it entirely. There is too much money not to be had on the tiny portable.
I would have preferred Underground, that was always my favourite one.
They were a bit of fun when I was young but I don't think I'm nostalgic enough to buy them again today even if they do come to Switch unless I find it super cheap. Too many other games I'd rather be playing.
@WhiteTrashGuy Yep, the GBA THPS4 and THUG were brilliant. Really impressive too.
WHYYYYY. WHYYYY SKIP THE SWITCH! I would THROW the money at them! THROW IT. Tony Hawk 2 is my teens!!! JUST GIMME!!!!
Dumb decision
Will be picking this up eventually. Shame its not coming to the switch.
These western developers are truly the most dense and stupid people...
Switch would outsell xbox and match ps4 sales... good move guys.
@Late Haha, I had it on the N-Gage also, it was a great port, the hand-held device also had a decent port of the original Tomb Raider and Pandemonium..... I still have mine plus the games packed away..
Looking at the video. These are remakes not remasters.
I was happy too get it on PC but then I saw Epic store and now going too wait till the time exclusive is finished. I only get my games from steam or GOG.
@Rika_Yoshitake I agree on that and also releasing the game on Steam would sell more then on the Epic store.
@mesome713 "Who the heck would buy these remastered? They're boring and outdated for today's standards. It's like remastering Madden 97 and 98"
Absolute utter nonsense! Boring? You must be off your rocker. The gameplay is still fun, snappy, tight and defenately still has the "just one more go" appeal. whilst it hasnt aged great the remaster will obvioustly have fixed that. Yes i could agree with you about it being like remastering Madden 97 and 98.....if Madden 97 and 98 were the best in the entire series like these games are out of the 2 minute run entries of THPS🤷♂️🤦♂️
I’m not gonna lie, it looks pretty awesome. Definitely gonna pick it up soon. Hope it comes to the Switch in the future.
Lol no Switch and Epic Fail Store it’s the double whammy of this industries BS.
Oh Nice, the game looks good, hopefully it's still fun to play! I'll pick it up on PS4, since they're not releasing a switch version.
Wow, Vicarious Visions is handling the remaster. Just read their interview with IGN. This looks fantastic. They are taking Neversoft's original code and layering it with modern controls and updates. Pre-ordering digitally will nab you a demo of the warehouse! I am pretty psyched right now.
No Steam and no Switch release meaning: I will 100% skip this.
Tony Hawk Remastered wants a good reason to fail when their sales are in the toilet, so they skipped the Switch
A shame it's not coming to Switch. I know most people associate THPS with the PS1, but I played it to death on the N64.
@Seananigans Epic Game Store lacks 99% of the features Steam has, and people do not want to install another game store on their PC just for a handful of games. Also Epic is owned by Tencent so the Epic game store installs Chinese spyware on your pc.
I have an Xbox one and love it, but console of choice is the Nintendo switch. So hopefully this will get released on the switch. Either way I can get it but still would rather have it on the switch.
Not gonna lie I totally would have picked this up for Switch, I loved this back on my N64. Oh well....
@sanderev The Chinese spyware thing is a hoax, don’t be spreading fake news here. What the hell do the Chinese care what we’re looking at online? It’s their own citizens they spy on.
@nessisonett
I guess Vicarious Visions is handling the re-master. Now I have even more faith, lol.
@Bman2425 I'm like you. I have an X1, but Switch is my main console. Oh well, I guess I'll get it on X1.
@WhiteTrashGuy The fact it’s a massive remake and not just a remaster is great. It’s basically the Crash and Spyro remakes but for Tony Hawk and I am here for it.
@Tulio517
Blue cartridge, baby! I pre-ordered that and PERFECT DARK at the same time!
Welp... guess I'll wait a year for the inevitable Switch release. It's not like I've never played these games before.
@Seananigans what sanderev said is kinda true (except the spyware thing as that has been debunked). My stigma towards them is when it comes to the way they handled the exclusive time deals.
It is fine for thing like Tony hawk 1&2 as it was announced and is on the epic store. To me that is ok but what is not ok is when a game is on sale on steam (both released and taking preorders) and then to buy an exclusive time deal.
What is worse is when they do it too kickstarter games where people funded it by getting a steam key too only them be told opps your not getting a steam key you are getting an epic key instead. I wouldn't mind it if Epic allowed the people who back it have a steam key and play the game on the same day it was released on the epic store but have steam players wait too buy it when the time is up but nope. This is why I don't support Epic.
tbh from the gameplay snippets you can see in the trailer it does look more like thps HD than the original gameplaywise. slower animations and spins for example.
also: epic games store exclusivity is a big NO !
i will stick with the amazing THUG PRO for PC
@mesome713 I agree! Just another cash grab! 95% of games on series x and ps5 are going to be HD/4K Remasters! YAWN 🥱👎👎
@nessisonett It's not a hoax. It absolutely true. Just google "epic game store scanning harddrive" and you'll find what I'm talking about.
Also I monitored the behaviour of the Epic game store running in a virtualized environment. Connecting to weird ip addresses, and indeed unexplained activity on my SSD were very noticable.
And yes, I do this for every new program I install on my PC. It will be checked for external connections and activity. Misbehaving program's will be either removed, or limited to the virtual environment. While normal programs will be installed after testing.
In the words of Tas....
“Farcough Hawk, you can’t even flip ya board you old pr1ck”
If you reported on every new game that skipped switch this site would be 99% consisting of those articles
Wierd decision. Switch handheld and thps seems like a Perfect combo. Hopefully it will Come later, maybe 2021.
@SilentHunter382 Why is this Epic’s fault though? The publisher is not forced to use Epic, but from their perspective it’s better than Steam (percentage taken is less or zero). If you don’t want to use Epic that’s fine but I’m not sure why they are the focus.
I'm pretty sure the Switch version will be announced in a Nintendo Direct. There's no reason not to do Switch version.
I'd grab 2 if it were on the Switch but oh well.
The only skateboarding game I've ever enjoyed is Skate or Die on the NES. I just can't get into any of the new ones. It is very very odd though that it would skip the Switch. Can't figure that one out at all.
@mesome713 People would buy those remastered as well.
People like to do the things they have done in the past. Nostalgia and revisiting previously enjoyed experiences are pretty much part of the human condition.
@nessisonett
Viral marketer detected.
@SnesSwitch
Gotta pump these things out or people were start noticing that studios struggled to get more than 2 games out for PS4/Xbone.
@SalvorHardin Yes, I’ve been here since 2014 and now I’m a viral marketer. Get a bloody life.
@BANJO Mine doesn't turn on anymore which is a shame. N-Gage was known as a meme but it was actually a really nice device. I didn't have many games for it. In fact, I only had three: Bomberman, Rayman 3 and THPS. Completed all three multiple times. I don't know why I didn't buy more games for it. They were really affordable even for a kid like me.
I've considered growing my collection but I don't know if it's worth it. From what I've seen on eBay, most phones either have issues or are more expensive than mine was when I bought it back in the day. Games are double the price too.
I expect to see this on Switch in 2021, I expect Activision is holding this back so that Switch owners who also own something else will double dip. Sneaky bas- ...
bad guys.
Why does Activision hate money?
Huh. Fancy that.
Maybe Vicarious Visions will step up again and do the port for Nintendo's handheld. ^^
Damn no Switch version that sucks:( hopefully it will come at at later date at least.
I'll be picking this up for my PS4 PRO on day 1 instead. THPS 1&2 are the best.
Might get this on PC. I know Tony Hawk HD had issues, but it exists, and it's sort of the same thing, so this announcement gave me a sort of "haven't we just done this?" feel. I want to know what those "extra features" are.
@Seananigans I like to think of it as a convenience store sort of deal in that the store is pretty much attached to Unreal Engine and you can buy a game while browsing or even some freebies just from having it. Much more enticing than "make an account download a launcher for our underfeatured store just to play this game until we let it be sold somewhere else a year from now". Also as a not early access, but you can get some indies before their wider release kind of store like how Va-11 Hall-A was on itch prior to releasing on Steam.
Stupid Activision. They won´t have my money, even if they release it on Switch next year.
@Late Sorry to hear it dosen't turn on, I haven't tried mine in a while, hopefully it works... It sure had some great games despite all the flack the handheld received.
Games had a RRP of £35 upon release but could be got alot cheaper soon after release as obviously not many games sold in any great quantity...
However, as you said now that makes many of the games really rare years later and both the handheld and prices of the games are now rising... Some sealed copies for a few games can reach £100- £150.00 each, absurd amounts...
I wanted to pick up another N-Gage for the future but have been put off by the prices... Still, like you I enjoyed mine for what it was, it had a great port of King of Fighters and a FPS called Ashen which were two of my go-to games...
These are PS1 games. There is no reason they can't port this to Switch. Seems like a missed opportunity. Everyone knows that the people that buy old games most likely own a Switch.
Because of course they are...
Alot of the time I come on this site its articles about things that aren't on the switch
Missing Switch is a big mistake. I could imagine it selling half a million easily due to the fond memories people have of the original versions.
@BANJO I think the prices in Finland were lower. I only remember that I bought my games for ~15€. Discount prices for sure but I don't think they were ever as high as what you described. But I was 10 so my memory is a bit hazy when it comes to the details.
The phone itself was 100€. That's one thing I'm sure of. They had a nice discount going when I bought it. Got it with my own money that I'd earned from doing housework. And I got a free game of my choice so I picked up Tony Hawk's Pro Skater. I'm not entirely sure why. I knew nothing of skateboarding or skateboarding games. Didn't regret my decision though.
It was good in its day , I have the originals, I think they need to stop with all this remasters, and just make new games , getting like Hollywood running out of ideas
@Gridatttack if this one does well. I can see that happening. Or maybe DLC for 4 and 5
That’s really disappointing, this would have been an insta-buy for me. Surprising too as the Crash & Spyro stuff seems to be selling well on Switch.
I find that many PS One era games haven’t aged well, but THPS 1&2 are both still a blast to play even today. Hopefully we will still see a Switch version released at a later date
Despite having a PS4, I won't be getting this game. Great memories of the original, however.
Though....I'd've get it for the Switch as I can play in handheld mode....
.
While I hope this comes to Switch, I'll snag it on sale on PC for sure!
@Seananigans people are ridiculous for even considering hating the epic store. I have over 70 free games on it, it’s amazing. And some of those freebies are better than most stuff offered on the Nintendo switch.
why are they skipping the Nintendo Switch? those two games were on the Nintendo 64, so what reasons can they possibly have for skipping the newest Nintendo system?
Skipping Switch? Pass.
So nostalgic, I hope they change their mind on the switch
@stevenw45
They don't want to bother downgrading a 4K game to 680p so it can run in 30fps on the Switch. Can't blame them.
@SnesSwitch like the Switch isn't 95% ports? I love the Switch, but come on we're the last group that should be getting on to other systems for having too many ports
I get that news is low right now but there is no need to post articles about games not coming to a Nintendo platform. If you need some click post something about hacking the Switch or Pokemon Sword and Shield.
@Late Yes, it sounds like the games did cost more here in the UK than in Finland, they advertised it quite heavily here but it just didn't really sell... Gamestation (a former UK games retailer) had a decent selection of games and was selling off N-Gage's for £50 with 5 games to get rid of stock after it was discontinued. I now wish I picked up another unit and the 5 games for that price...
Your choice of game Tony Hawk's was also my first game for the system, certainly a good choice..
@HardcoreDaBoss
The epic store is a mess.
I only have free games from it. I won't spend 1 penny on actually buying a game. Steam is where the friends/voice chat/and all that lives. Epic can do what they want but the minute they started buying exclusives they turned into trash.
Sweeny can blow me.
@KillerBOB
Then why downgrade it to run on the poop PS4? Ps4 pro 4k is a jumbled mess of hacked checkerboarding and looks awful.
i mean, if they are so 'pure' then wait till the 5/xbsx/PC to do it right.
Screw 'em. If they don't want to publish a game that will reach 56 million consoles worldwide, that's their $$ loss.
I’m allergic to money too. Can’t stand the stuff. I totally understand this decision.
I think I will just ignore this and go play the originals.
Who the heck buys this trash?!
I think it’s a mistake to skip switch.
@NoNoseNosferatu
I’ll be the first to admit that, I can’t skateboard to save my life, but these games were really addicting and fun.
Weird. 60.000.000 potential customers being ignored. Maybe they did some kind of poll and found out that Switch owners will not buy the game.
If they concentrated on the gameplay over the graphics / fidelity, there is absolutely no reason why this wouldn't do crazy well on Switch. Missed opportunity here I reckon. I mean, come on, we would all just be happy it looking nicer than PS1 graphics lol. Still, anyone know how the micro transactions will work?
@MoonKnight7 that’s a decent enough reason; personally I never saw the appeal of skateboarding or its video game craze, but you do you though, I guess.
@stevenw45 I think you accidentally replied to the wrong person
These look like remakes in a sense from the footage they posted on Twitter
I really dug games like Pro Skater 2X on the original Xbox so I'm definitely keeping my eye on this
Seriously?!? Not on Switch?!? My friend has a Nintendo 64, and also has Pro Skater 2. If the games have been on a Nintendo system in the past, why not on Switch?
I just do not understand the hate for switch (I know it’s not really about hate). Like come on... they would sell so many copies on switch.
@KillerBOB
i don't think they need to downgrade a 4k game all the way down to 680p. not sure about the Nintendo switch lite, but can't the Nintendo switch handle up to 1080p?
and why would they jump to 4k, when 1080p is good enough and wasn't the original versions of the game release at around 240p or so?
@HammerKirby sorry
*****. Make a new game ffs. Just a cash grab. That misses the switch 🤔🤷🏻♂️😆 developers are going to forget how to make new games with all these remasters! I love the pro Skater series it was amazing GameCube was it’s pinocle with pro Skater 4. Such a shame. I mean if you played these back in the day how many times did you complete them? Countless times! Unlocking all the secret characters 😪
https://i.imgflip.com/4165dx.jpg
THPS 3 was where it was at. Once they added the manual to connect strings of tricks, it was hard to go back.
Why are so many of the Western developers like Activision, Rockstar and EA so dumb when it comes to the Switch? There are over 55 million users now. Games like COD, Madden, Tony Hawk, GTA would sell massive numbers for the console. So sick and tired of them ignoring the Switch.
Have Activision published anything besides Crash, Spyro and Skylanders on the Switch? Maybe they see it as a kids console (even though a large part of their sales would likely have come from nostalgic adults).
Let's hope it's like Spyro, where the Switch version was released later.
Just about every game announced the last 3 weeks have skipped the Switch. Nothing new here.
I gave this game a thrashing in like 1999 or something. It probably gave me arthritis. I can pass even if it came to switch
Yeah have to say I am disappointed as I thought we be getting this game on the switch
@ToneDeath
They don't own the ip anymore , and we did get other games from actionvision besides those three as you forgot Overwatch for example since the company is called actionvision Blizzard
@NoNoseNosferatu
I will, thank you.
I love THUG 2 and these games were before the revert mechanic perfected the formula AND not on Switch... it's going to be a pass for me.
@Arnold-Kage Ah, of course!
The Switch is the only console that even remotely resembles a skateboard! Huge mistake.
@IronMan30 goat boy approves
Wow I was excited for the rumors of them bringing this back remastered but skipping the Switch is insane.
I know the other consoles are older but man the Switch is the most selling console right now by a crazy amount. It's like the people that decide these things have no clue about the industry, EA is a good example of that as well but are learning from their mistakes, sorta...
Switch is the only console where you could play a skateboard game while riding a skateboard
less and less games are being announced on switch and i'm kindda frustrated even if i also own another console. The more it sells, the less interesting are the ports brought over to the platform. The switch has almost none of the recent announcements coming over and i'll quote virtuos in one of their interviews here:
"not taking advantage of the big install base of the nintendo switch would be a huge mistake"
and i'm sure investors must feel the same as well right now. You have that very popular platform, with about 60m people craving games, and you still don't take advantage of it?
It doesn't make ANY sense whatsoever. Both financially and business wise. Some japanese investors went as far as to pressure publishers like falcom to release more stuff on switch otherwise they would
"rethink about investing in future projects" and suddenly they announced TOCS 3 and 4 plus teased other projects were in the works for the switch. Don't think that was a coincidence.
Switch would have probably been the only console I would have bought this on. I had great times on 1 and 2 back on the day but am I going to use my time on big screen in the house for this over the last of us 2 or ghosts of tsushima?? EA has really missed the point with the switch, people need to lean into second screen games, games you can play a bit while something else is on the tv.
Skipping switch is really sad. 1 and 2 were my favorite in the series and I have some of my best buddy gaming memories with them. I really hope switch gets reconsidered..
@MoonKnight7 most welcomed; let us know if and when you get it.
@Pod
Are you saying this game will maybe come to the 3DS?
Seems like a bonehead move to skip the switch, I doubt it's going to be that exhausting to make this game. I do love the first 2 games, and may get it on PS4 if we don't get a switch version.
@ReikoMortis they're actually the same install base.
My N64 copy of THPS2 has been giving me trouble lately (dead battery, perhaps?), so I do wish this were coming to the Switch. Either way, I hope they do it right this time
It’s the last time I buy Nintendo hardware, we get all the shovelware and 30 yo arcade games only niche players enjoy but all the good stuff skips the switch... THPS2 is awesome for anybody who never played it, shame 50 million+ can’t enjoy this remaster. Thanks Nintendo...
@Bearzilla823
At this point you have to realise that it’s Nintendo’s fault, why else would all those third party companies avoid the switch ? Everybody knows the switch will outsell xbox1 and PS4 by now but we still just get all N games from previous generations. Might be enough for some, but I am truly disappointed in the Switch, should be way better.
@Tulio517 Agreed. Same here.
@Gridatttack how can it be hard to port to the switch wen tony hawk pro skater 3 was on the gamecube makes no sense just another $tupid excuse from activision their more like ea now.
No Switch release and an Epic (Fail) Games Store release on PC. Looks like I'll be skipping this one. Too bad.
PLayed the crap out of this back then, Got me to pick up skating. EVen to this day (especially now) i often just skate through vancouver.
Yes! Cant wait
Glad got an xb
Unless of course Nintendo are waiting to announce the game for Switch themselves via their next Direct. It's happene before with other releases.
Yeah it's probably just wishful thinking on my part though.
...They know this isn't convincing me to buy another console, right?
Just this morning, I saw a little kid on a skateboard deck, minus wheels, in his front yard, pretending he was skating and doing tricks. I laughed and called him the next Tony Hawk. My younger brother said "Uh, who?" and I died a little inside, feeling my age.
I hope that a Switch port is coming eventually, perhaps a year or two like other games seem to do. In the meantime, I might pick it up on the PS4.
What a waste, might as well bury the article if they're that damned closed minded about the release. It's not just so bad they did that with Switch but also that lame EPIC store which is a small piece of the PC pie as well. It's like they just want to piss off two of the most active gaming bases.
Let’s face it if it was on switch it would be a big download half on the cart mess
@RiasGremory name calling? wow youre so powerful. well its not on the switch. sorry.
@RPGamer i have a Switch and PS4 and I like persona.
@sanderev At our company our firewall noticed epic games pulling an average of 3 to 4 GB per day or per 2 days on some devices. Data grab, for sure.
@RiasGremory
Keep telling yourself that. I’m happy for you if you are satisfied with the direction Nintendo takes for such a great console. I’m not. No GTA, Red dead redemption, Batman, Dark souls 2&3 (or any From Software), recent assassin’s creed, Mass effect (let’s face it, it will not make it to the switch), Tony Hawk, Skate, Star Wars game that isn’t 20 year old, Call of Duty (although I don’t like those games), metal gear, Portal, Half life, Far cry, Dead space, deus ex, tomb raider, dishonoured, dragon age, fallout etc etc just to name a few. That is heavy third party support indeed...
@MrBlacky
I was just drawing a parallel to their GBA port of THPS2, but yeah, why not, and while they're at, make it top-down isometric too.
They could also make it a Switch Lite exclusive.
Ok are these people stupid? Do they not like money or something?
Lets bring out a remake but not put it on the best selling console at the moment. Great Idea!
They hurt themselves further when in another three years the
Switch will have insane number of consoles sold and the people buying them are buying a lot of games for them. I honestly think it will be announced at some point sooner than later. This reminds me of the pre and post launch Switch where no one was allowed to talk about that kind of stuff.
Not a huge fan but may have taken a punt as a time sink on Switch. As it is, no sale. Meh.
@Buckyooliver exactly. Remaster after remaster
@MrAsild
If you bought a Nintendo system expecting a ton of games that have very rarely, if at all, appeared on a Nintendo system, it’s hard to know what to tell you.
@BenAV same here.. can't go down that memory lane on this one.
I’ve got both of these on PsOne, Dreamcast and N64. (Dreamcast was best).
I would only have bought a modern release of them as a physical release on Switch to add to my collection and digital to play on the go. Skipping the Switch? I’m skipping you.
@UmbrageHill denied!
@electrolite77
I bought the switch when I saw TESV and Dark souls released and Witcher 3 was announced (I am exactly this type of audience). I thought maybe this would go on. Obviously, I was sorely mistaken. A mistake I won’t make again unless N proves me wrong by the end of the switch life span.
But most of all I bought the switch because I moved in and out 4-5 times these past two years and changed country twice. I can’t really buy a console or fixed pc as I need to be really mobile for my studies. So thanks for the implication in your comment but buying the switch actually made sense at the time. Now, I do regret more of the games I would like don’t release on the console.
@IronMan30 How about the fact that it cannot run at the 4k resolution that it is being made in?
C'mon, nobody is surprised at this, are they? The game is being made strictly in 4k.
@Bunkerneath it's being made strictly in 4k. The switch does not run and cannot at that resolution. The switch is a great but weak platform. Why are people still surprised at this.
I'm pretty sure it'll come to the Switch some time after. Does anyone remember that the Crash trilogy and the Spyro trilogy came to the Switch long after the game was out on other platforms?
@NintendoPok says the guy saying things are not true.
@YANDMAN Because video game developers know how to downscale resolution. You've already seen how many ports on the Switch were handled, so of course that's why people are surprised.
Besides, Activision Blizzard has gotten a number of their games ported onto the Switch. Leaving out Pro Skater when a game like Overwatch was ported already seems inexcusable at this point.
@MrAsild the games you listed switch can handle them and dont try to defend certain game companies being lazy not bring some of those games over to the switch and lets not forget witcher 3,doom games,wolfenstein and others are running well on the switch because the devs take their time and delivering really good switch ports.
@NathanTheAsian i was telling couple of idiots on here that pro skater 3 was on the bloody gamecube and theres no excuse to not bring the whole trilogy to the switch.
@zander_dale my wallet rejoices
@IronMan30 I'm thinking that too but who knows. Nintendo is famous for bringing games to the switch that were Xbox 1 and PS4 only.
@MrAsild
Don’t get me wrong there’s games I’d like on the Switch but I was never actually promised them nor did I infer from other games getting released that the ones I wanted would be, so (shrugs). It was never going to get the same library as the others because it’s so different. Probably got the best third party support of any Nintendo system since Gamecube, possibly even the SNES though.
@IronMan30 Uh...maybe because they want this to look amazing and that's important after the utter mess of the last few games. Remaking this game with a weak system like Switch in mind is what KILLED them back when they tried to make versions of THPS 5 for Ps3 360 AND Ps4 Xbox 1. You can watch in depth videos on that. This is a smart move for them. Don't pretend like the Switch isn't just a "Pro" version of the PS3.
@Dang69 Yes, like Witcher 3. It just won't work on the Switch!
I just booted up my old N64 copy of THPS 1 again in celebration of the remaster. One of the few upcoming AAA games I'm actually excited about. Really don't feel the need for Skater XL anymore.
If I want to go to my friends and take my console as I have always done, I carry the switch ... and if we want to play Tony Hawk .... I either carry an old console or I carry the switch, the Ps4 is too big and heavy! Please, I hope they also release a version on Switch, this game deserves it.
@NathanTheAsian yes but the whole point of it is to make it look really pretty, and they said it will only release in 4k. The end. They don't wish to scale it back or compromise it and i say good for them.
@YANDMAN
If they only release it in 4K, then it'll be exclusive to PS4 Pro/Xbox One X. That isn't the case for their regular consoles though. Regardless, those games will get downscaled to 1080p for the regular PS4 and Xbox One. It gives no excuse for them to not downscale it any further to fit it on the Switch.
@IronMan30 Different situation. Witcher doesn't look super hot (it looks much better after the recent options update) on Switch. However that game has a ton of goodwill going for it and people are willing to sacrifice the visuals for the HUGE open world. So much to do in it. While Tony Hawk has had a bad track record going back to the Wii. This video is really good https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NgngIxHOOVs on the subject, and the scope of the game is much more limited when compared to the Witcher. So it needs to hit it hard on all fronts. The latest release in the series also suffered for trying to port to many systems. So, they need to NAIL this. Have it look and play amazing. It makes sense to not waste time making a Switch version work. Maybe down the line. The Witcher took a LOT of effort too.
@NathanTheAsian Of course it does, it's extra work and an extra team to employ. It is entirely up to them how they handle it. if they thought it was really viable and easy to do with it still running to a good standard they would be doing it. Businesses like to make money and equally avoid excessive costs. Most people have multiple platform consoles, so it isn't a issue. If it were on switch i would still buy it on PS4, as i want to enjoy the best version of the game.
Oh, that's depressing news ..I want the game to launch on the switch...;-;
@YANDMAN
But in return, they'll be making more money on the Switch than they spent. Haven't you seen the success of the other ports?
What do you think is the main goal of these remasters? It's not to give the games a graphical update. It's to provide newer players with an older game, tuned to today's video game standards in terms of gameplay.
Also, there are people out there who would sacrifice graphical standards for the sake of portability.
Besides, @RiasGremory has a point. The third game was previously on a Nintendo console - the GameCube - so there really shouldn't be any excuse to not port these games onto the Switch.
@NathanTheAsian The games are being made natively in 4k and then from there they can obviously scaled back to PS4 standard edition and likewise XBOX formats. Across those two platforms the build and port will be very similar and easy to do. This doesn't concur sadly with the Switch platform. There would be so much for them to alter that they have obviously deemed it unpractical. Listen if you think you know their business better than them tell them, don't simply tell some guy on the internet about it.
@YANDMAN
If you don't want this to continue, don't reply. I'm simply saying what I want to say and if you have a problem with it, then ignore me.
Of course, it takes a lot for companies to downsize games to fit on the Switch, but my point is that it has been done before and much of it was SUCCESSFUL.
If there weren't successful ports to the Switch, I would very much agree with you, but for large games like The Witcher 3 to receive a port and gain lots of success in sales and later on, performance, it's not an unpractical idea to port other games over to the Switch, especially if they are significantly smaller.
@NathanTheAsian Games like the witcher 3 are a completely different matter due to the actual style of the game, much slower pace and vast areas that do not require everything to be drawn at the same time or quickly. Facts are companies wnat to make money, if this was viable to them they would be, it isn't some kind of smear campaign against the switch. There are already 1000% more ports on th4 switch than i ever thought we would see, at some point some just aren't going to happen, no matter how much you want it. Skater XL, gameplay wise also looks far better.
