I’m surprised of all the adoration for Metroid Samus Returns in the article and comments. I thought it was awful. I actually quite liked the original, but the remake just felt horrible to play. They made the cardinal sin of only allowing analogue control for a 2D game (and a pretty bad analogue stick at that), but the game just didn’t feel nice to play, I’m not sure what it was. It was pretty dull as well, I couldn’t bring myself to finish it.
I’m also finding Mario RPG on Switch a bit lacklustre. I think the remake itself is great, but the underlying game is just meh. I remember playing the original 20 years or so ago, and didn’t finish it. Now I’m remembering why!
Can’t wait to play Metroid Prime Remaster though. That game is one of the best and the remaster looks absolutely sublime.
@Olliemar28 it wouldn’t be 100% profit on preowned sales though, would it? You would have to take off whatever they paid for the game in the first place, wouldn’t you? Unless they only ever buy pre-owned games using store credit? I’ve never actually sold a game to GAME
I’ve downloaded the demo and had a quick blast. I’m annoyed to find it’s a 2D game that only uses the analogue stick for movement. It never feels precise. It was my main criticism of Metroid Dread too. I wish reviews would point this out.
I’m a huge Nintendo fan and only just bought a Switch in May 2023. I was waiting for a price cut that never happened. If they did do a price cut (and they really should at this point) then I could see the Switch surpassing that elusive 155m sales number.
I have to agree with the opinion on the Netflix show Midnight Mass. I wouldn’t consider myself a fan of horrors, especially ones centred around religion, churches, priests etc. My wife’s the fan of that stuff (which is why I end up watching them 🤣), but there was just something so captivating about Midnight Mass. It was brilliant.
Do screenshots in reviews on Nintendo Life ever come with a caption? All I ever see accompanying them are “Captured on Nintendo Switch (Docked)” or “Captured on Nintendo Switch (Handheld)”. Surely a little icon would suffice, and we could then have a caption too?
He can make whatever games he wants, but let’s be clear. BotW and TotK are not Zelda games. They are open world crafting slog fests with Link and Zelda characters in them.
Either just sell it digitally on the eShop or sell it physically with a cartridge. What’s the point of a code in a box? Just seems a waste of money. And most codes in a box I see for sale are cheaper than they are on the eShop, so it’s not like it’s lucrative for them!
This makes perfect sense from Microsoft’s perspective and I think is a good strategy. They’re clearly going all in on the streaming/subscription model for gaming, so they need to maximise that. Making Game Pass available on as many devices as possible is obvious when looking at it from that perspective.
The bigger question for me is whether they’ll continue to produce dedicated Xbox hardware after Series X/S. Only time will tell.
Nintendo should allow it if it ever comes to fruition. There’s minimal competition between the two (their subscriptions offer different things), and it would possibly generate hardware sales for them. Sony on the other hand….
@TioRogerioAndrade I think the forest temple has to be the best dungeon in the entire Zelda series for me. The eerie atmosphere and music is top notch, but then it also has those twisting corridor puzzles and the awesome boss fight with Ganandorf coming out of the paintings.
Never understood the complaints myself. I completed it as a teenager back in the day with no guide. I just remember it being a clever and well designed dungeon, another one to add to the long list of excellent dungeons from A Link to the Past and Ocarina of Time.
I miss the dungeons from those games where you have to use the map and think vertically about where rooms sit on top of one another to solve them.
Mention of the Shadow Temple reminds me what great dungeons Ocarina of Time had. And the sheer number of them too. Both Link to the Past and Ocarina of Time were the pinnacle of Zelda dungeons for me (and pinnacle of Zelda games for that matter).
100+ shrines in BotW but no dungeons was a massive disappointment. Sad to hear TotK is basically the same.
I don’t recall much about this game, but I do recall that I absolutely loved it and was surprised by how much I enjoyed it. I wasn’t a fan of the graphical style (the original SNES game looks much better in my opinion). I didn’t like the ‘rent a tool’ mechanic - what did it really add to the game? And I have some recollection of a weird octopus with its offspring or something like that (wtf?!!). But despite this, I loved the game. I think it was the wall merging mechanic, which was great and unique, and the music, which was fantastic. It probably helped it felt familiar and I hold the original game in such high regard too.
There was nothing quite like seeing the first person view from Navi as she flew from the Deku tree into the village, looked around, banged into the fence then flew through the gap before going into Link’s house. When I saw that for the first time back in 1998 I knew I was about to play something special.
@dtlux1 thanks, I’ll give the process another look. It was over a year ago last time I checked, and I asked someone about reversing it to take your 3DS back to stock firmware and they warned against doing it, as it risked bricking the system. Hopefully it’s improved since then.
I just bought the Castlevania Collection, with some gold coins cost me a whopping £1.08. Can’t say fairer than that! Hopefully the classic Doom games go on sale again soon, love me some classic Doom.
Just got Broken Sword 5 for like £1.50 too. I normally prefer physical but can’t ignore it at that price! Also had to get Gorogoa, looks awesome.
I always get confused between which one this is: Outer Wilds or Outer Worlds.
I’m so glad this is releasing physically next year. I’ve managed to not play this game yet but I think it sounds super interesting. I’ve been waiting for a physical release and here we are. Now I just hope this isn’t being picked up by one of these annoying limited run places.
I bought Skyward Sword HD over the weekend and have started to play it, having not played it since it first came out on Wii. What this has reaffirmed to me is that I will 100% always prefer a traditional Zelda game to these fandangled open world ones. I really hope they make a new one of these type again. I don’t mind if it’s 2D or 3D.
@Sun_wukong not all of us want to do that. I looked into it a while back and not only is it a faff to do, but it’s irreversible. There’s no way I’d want to do it to my limited edition Zelda 3DS consoles.
Not that I’m bothered about this game in particular, but I do have some other USA region 3DS games I’d like to play. I’m on the lookout for a US 3DS but they seem quite hard to come by in the UK.
I’ve only just joined the Switch party, and I was very disappointed that Metroid Dread didn’t allow the d-pad for movement. Made the game much less enjoyable for me (but still a good game). I’m also surprised the 2D retro sections of Odyssey don’t either, but at least they’re only a small part of the game.
One thing I like about the PS4 is the standard controller has a great d-pad and from my experience all 2D games used it. Hopefully Metroid Dread is an outlier as I experience more 2D games on Switch.
Can this game be controlled by the d pad does anyone know? I’ve only recently got a Switch, and I’m really not liking that a lot of 2D games use the analogue stick to control. Never had this issue on the PS4.
I have these games on GC but still haven’t played them. I remember thinking the environments looked stunning (and still do), but the whole card nonsense put me off. I still plan to play them though, maybe one day.
Is this demo only available in the US? I’m in the UK and the listing for Pikmin 4 on the eShop (when checking on my phone) doesn’t show any demo being available.
Isn’t it just the maths? TotK has sold lots in the past month in the UK, and its RRP will be higher than the average RRP of games from before then (selling at full price when most games don’t). So when looking at the numbers, it’s helped to drive up the average price of video games during that period.
And if videogames have helped contribute to the overall inflation figure for this period, then technically yes, it’s helped drive up inflation.
Piggyback probably do the most comprehensive guides, I’m sure this is no different. Although I’ve stopped buying guides these days.
I still have their Wind Waker guide for the GameCube that I bought back in the day, that was excellent and I can’t get rid of it. I even have some of the first guides they did. Silent Hill & Metal Gear Solid on the PS1.
A man bun AND a ponytail at the same time? That’s impressive. Shame he doesn’t go for the triple, sporting a Jaz Rignall mullet as well. That would be the absolute pinnacle of hair follicle manliness.
Their website is horrendous to navigate on a phone. You know, how most people browse the internet these days. I can barely make it to the product page for the N64 version.
What are the restrictions for the N64 copy? Nothing is mentioned that I can see on the terrible website.
Despite buying this back in 2013 or whenever it came out, I only played this last year. It’s a great game, and I bought spirit of justice + dlc straight after. I still need to play that, maybe I’ll get around to it in 9 years’ time 🤣

The lack of dungeons is why I’ll never see BotW as a true Zelda game. It’s an open world crafting and inventory management game with Link in it.
I still haven’t bought a Switch! I keep saying I’ll buy one when they drop the price. Been 5 years now!
Still, they must drop the price at some point, and I imagine that would give sales a boost in later years. You never know, it could pass the PS2 and DS with such a boost.
This has been around years hasn’t it? Why just mention it now.
It definitely makes the games look better than the official disc does. But I don’t know, I'm not a big fan of playing GBA games on the TV via a GameCube, even with a SNES controller. It just doesn’t feel as good as playing on the original handheld (with a backlit screen anyway).
The Super Game Boy on the other hand. That’s definitely my preferred way of playing original GB games. But they put a lot more effort into that, with the borders and unique feature and added colour for certain games.
@chipia that’s true, I’ll reserve my final judgement until we know more. But given how successful BotW was I can only assume they’ll be sticking to the Assassin's Creed formula, which is fair enough.
I’d be quite happy if they did a smaller scale 2D traditional Zelda in the background, hopefully I’ll get my wish!

Re: Review: Mario vs. Donkey Kong (Switch) - An Easygoing, Kid-Friendly Remake That's Just Fine
I had to order it from Curry’s after seeing above that it’s £31.99 with that code. Get Nectar points too. Can’t grumble at that.
I don’t mind an easy game, plus that makes it better for my young daughters to enjoy it.
