Re: Talking Point: 3DS Is 11 Years Old, And Our Eyes Still Feel Strange

GravyThief

I do like the 3D effect. I’m currently playing Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright on a New 3DS. The stable 3D is definitely an improvement, but I still get the ghosting effect (or whatever it’s called) when I use 3D. I don’t wonder if it’s my eyesight that causes it, or something else, but if it wasn’t for that I’d have the slider on all the time.

Re: Capcom Launches Its Biggest 3DS Sale Ever (US)

GravyThief

Darn it just bought Spirit of Justice on the UK eShop for £25. Well, £22.50 as I used Nintendo Life’s discount code, thanks! 😀

I hope this sales comes to Europe. While I missed out on the above, I’d probably buy the Trilogy and Apollo Justice at these prices, even though I have the original DS games.

Re: Japan Gets Special Edition Of Klonoa On Switch Which Includes Drinking Glasses

GravyThief

@Zeropulse I would say yes. I played the first GBA game in the last couple of years and thoroughly enjoyed it. I never played it originally so don’t have any nostalgia for it either, although I’d played the PS1 game not long beforehand and really enjoyed that too. It’s kind of puzzly using the double jump while holding an enemy mechanic a lot. I haven’t played the 2nd one yet but imagine it’s more of the same, which is a good thing!

The original GBA carts for these games are quite expensive these days so the Wii U VC releases really are a bargain. I’d say go for it!

Re: EA's CEO Seems Pretty Chill About Losing The FIFA Licence

GravyThief

What do they get for the FIFA licence? If they have 300 other licence agreements in place? Would they still have all the real clubs and players in the game?

@AlexOlney I guess they’d have a lot more spare cash to do that if they’re not spending multiple billions of dollars on the FIFA licence.

Re: Soapbox: Two Ace Attorneys Are Trapped On 3DS eShop, So It's About Time For A New Trilogy

GravyThief

I’m literally playing Apollo Justice on my DS Lite right now. I bought Dual Destinies years ago and started it, but didn’t recognise the characters from Apollo Justice so put it off until I’d played it first. It’s only taken me 8 years to get around to it! Thoroughly enjoying it, I’d forgotten how much I enjoy the Ace Attorney games. I’ll probably go back to Dual Destinies straight after.

I’ll definitely be buying Spirits of Justice before Nintendo ban us from their shop. Hopefully I’ll get around to playing it in less than 8 years!

Re: Feature: "NCL Has Been Waiting For This Day Since 2014" - Former NOA Employee Talks Nintendo eShop Closures

GravyThief

@Bman2425 thanks I’ll take a look. Although as per the other guy’s response, it looks like it would only work if you’re able to sign in to your Nintendo account via the eShop on the console, which when they close everything down you wouldn’t be able to. And during that time you could just redownload your purchases from the eShop anyway so I’m not sure if there is any real benefit to backing up your Wii U and 3DS games, at least for my purpose of not losing them many years in the future. Thanks for your response, I’ll certainly take a look on YouTube.

Re: Soapbox: A Week After Jailing One Pirate, Nintendo Just Made Piracy A Reality For Countless Fans

GravyThief

These game companies (well, Sony and Nintendo) really need to make it so the digital infrastructure between consoles/hardware remains the same. In that way surely they can just keep them running at minimal incremental cost as their new/current hardware will still be using the same digital platform?

Maybe not the online gaming servers, but at least the store fronts. No need to have separate store fronts for every console.

Look at Steam or Apple, they have just had one continuous store front since day 1. And Apple release way more new hardware than Nintendo and Sony combined. I just don’t get it.

Re: Don't Worry, The Klonoa Collection Is Getting A Physical Release On Switch

GravyThief

I’ll definitely be buying this physically. The only question left is, do I buy it for the Switch or the PS4? Or both! 😀

I do love the Klonoa games. I only played the first one for the first time a few years ago, so don’t hold any nostalgia for them either. Even the GBA games, while not as good as the PS1/PS2 games, are really enjoyable too.

Re: No More Heroes Creator Suda51 Says He's Had A Few Meetings With Marvel

GravyThief

Not related to this article specifically, but does the text jump around for anyone else when trying to read Nintendo Life articles these days?

It never used to happen, but it’s now happening on every single article. It’s the adverts loading in and out constantly. It happens on Eurogamer articles too.

I’m not against adverts, but please don’t let them make text jump around, it’s really off putting.

Re: Microsoft Is Buying Activision, According To New Report

GravyThief

You need to update the text in the article, as it says $70 million, which comparatively speaking, would be an absolute bargain!

EDIT: I spoke too soon 😀

I’m speechless about this news. I can’t believe how much MS have been spending on acquisitions. I’d love to see the business plans that show how this is all profitable for them.

This definitely impacts PlayStation more than Nintendo, as historically Bethesda’s and Activision’s games have featured on their consoles more than Nintendo. But it’s still a shock. And ironically, Crash Bandicoot will no longer appear on a PlayStation platform!

Re: 5 Years On, The Games Media Remembers Its First Impressions Of Nintendo Switch

GravyThief

I definitely thought it would struggle. I thought the price for the tech was too high. I still think it’s priced too high (I bought a PS4 for less money instead back then). Obviously the general public don’t agree with me!

I stuck to my guns though. I still haven’t bought one as I wait for a price cut. Happy to wait as I’m still enjoying my PS4 and I’ll be able to get an OLED model which didn’t exist at launch.

I have bought a few Switch games ready for when I do eventually get one. Mainly special editions or ones I anticipate being hard to get hold of and scalped in the future.

Re: GamesMaster: Episode 2 Heaps Praise On The Switch OLED

GravyThief

I didn’t realise the new GamesMaster had already started and it’s on episode 2 already. I must have missed your article about the first episode. I best catch up.

I spent a good few months about 5 or 6 years ago watching every episode of the original GM series, as well as Bad Influence. I hope I enjoy this new series as much as I enjoyed watching those old ones.

Re: Feature: Nintendo Hotliner Life 1990–93: Manning The Phones During The Console Wars

GravyThief

@kuppakeff thanks for the reply! I really did enjoy reading it and seeing the pictures so thank you. Getting any insight into Nintendo UK from the 90s is quite rare.

And sorry, the comment about the game names wasn’t directed at this article! It was more generally aimed at Nintendo Life who, despite being a UK based site, seem to always use US game names in their articles. And it was in jest 😀

Re: Talking Point: Is There A Better-Looking 20-Year-Old Game Than Star Wars: Rogue Squadron II?

GravyThief

I’ve always found this generation of consoles to be the most impressive in context of the time they were active. They were actually more powerful than the TV technology of the time, being able to pump out 480p long before most consumer TV sets were able to take advantage of it. And lots of the games seemed to be able to do 60fps.

I remember seeing the early GameCube games and being blown away. RS2, Luigi’s Mansion, REmake, Eternal Darkness, they all caught my attention after I’d been away from gaming for a couple of years and convinced me to get a GameCube.

Re: HBO's '8-Bit Christmas' Is Giving The NES Power Glove Another Shot At Movie Glory

GravyThief

I love cheesy Christmas films and I love Nintendo. Hence I love the look of this film! If it’s successful maybe we’ll get a 16 bit Christmas and a 64 bit Christmas film over the next 2 years!

On a side note, I find it weird how I never had a NES growing up and I grew up in the UK not the US, yet I still get the nostalgia feels from this! Maybe it was hearing Joey Tempest belting out the Final Countdown, I definitely remember that as a kid.

Re: Gallery: Breaking The Seal On Retro-Bit's 'Undercover Cops' Reissue

GravyThief

I got their Jaleco Brawler’s pack a while ago. I liked that it was just a box and manual without all the additional tat so came in cheaper. However, I didn’t like anything about it. It all just felt really cheap. The box, manual, cartridge, none of them felt right and I ended up selling it.

Not sure how this one compares but it’s put me right off buying any of these re-issue type releases, hence I didn’t bother going for this.

Re: Best Ace Attorney Games Of All Time

GravyThief

The original trilogy are awesome, I couldn’t choose between them to be honest. And I’m one of the 4 people who played them on WiiWare and still thoroughly enjoyed them! If I played them on DS my wife would never have heard ‘Objection!’ while laid in bed and now use the term at me when I do something she doesn’t approve of.

Re: Gallery: Feast Your Eyes On Metroid Dread's Special Edition

GravyThief

I noticed this on Amazon UK earlier today at RRP (sold by Amazon) so bought it. They’re still in stock too.

It’s not delivered until Monday and I may still cancel it. I’ve really gone off Special Editions and sold BotW and Mario Rabbids recently as they were just too big and full of tat. Didn’t realise this was so big which is putting me off now.

Re: Fatal Frame: Maiden Of Black Water's Latest Trailer Tells The Terrifying Truth Of Mt. Hikami

GravyThief

I started playing the Wii U version of this a few years ago but I must say I found it very boring and wasn’t impressed. The only other one I’ve played is the Wii one years before, which I didn’t complete either, but I remember it was definitely better than this one. Must say I definitely prefer the Silent Hill games over these ones, from what I’ve experienced.
