Re: Next Year's Mega Man Cartoon Looks Certain To Maintain Proud Tradition Of Annoying Fans

Gorlokk

Honestly It's kinda funny how Mega Man fans keep getting their hopes and dreams crushed. Like, when you really think about it, it's year after year of disappointments, and not just because of the lack of Mega Man, but also because of what they choose to do with him. This, the anniversary collection that has less games than the first anniversary collection, Mighty No. 9 falling flat on its face at every opportunity, etc...

Re: Soapbox: How The Evolution Of Pokémon Can Unexpectedly Influence Play-Through Experiences

Gorlokk

Even though I've never experienced this, I definitely see where you're coming from, and honestly the games would be better in my opinion if there was more focus on single player adventure and story rather than the competitive scene. But that's partially because I think the competitive scene is a joke in Pokemon and not worth dedicating time to.

Honestly if you're a Pokemon fan and want a good story and feeling of adventure you'll probably always have better luck with the Mystery Dungeon games. The sad part is that I don't think that will ever change because Game Freak plays it too safe with mainline entries.

Re: Review: Majyuuou (SNES)

Gorlokk

This game seems really cool but it just doesn't look good on an emulator. I need to get a repro cart or something (since the Famicom cart is really expensive anyway) and play it on a TV.

Re: Soapbox: Why Websites Don’t Need to Give a Game a Review Score (and Probably Shouldn’t)

Gorlokk

Really quick, I'd like to say that I actually don't know where I stand. I see pros and cons to both sides. Overall I think I side with the no score side, however, one thing that Alex mentioned that really resonated with me was how he had more fun with one game than another that he gave a higher score. For me, Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon is a 10/10 game because of how it affected me. That said, I don't think it would affect most people the same way, and its core gameplay is incredibly niche, and because of this I feel it's more deserving of somewhere around an 8, and I don't know, I honestly can't decide whether trying to be objective or subjective is more important. They both seem equally important to me, but you have to lean towards one side more with a review, I would think.

Re: Talking Point: What Would You Like to See From Pokémon Sun and Moon?

Gorlokk

More character customisation?
Definitely. I think it would be a shame (but also somewhat expected) if GameFreak removed this from Sun and Moon.

New Rivals?
Hmm, yeah. I don't think rivals have to be 'mean' or super competitive, but limiting it to just one well written one instead of multiple shallow puddles of 'rivals' would be nice.

Limit the amount of new Pokémon?
I don't agree here. There are few Pokemon that I outright dislike, probably less than ten. Are there designs that I don't care for? Definitely, probably more than half of all Pokemon. But my favorite part of the game is raising my team and seeing them grow throughout the game, imagining little stories in my head like one would do for Etrian Odyssey or something. Not to mention, the 'bad' designs make the good ones stand out more.
I would definitely enjoy having more starter variety though. That would be awesome.

Change the story?
Yeah, after playing the Mystery Dungeon games, it's almost embarrassing how lame the mainline game stories are (With the exception to Black and White, not that those were great, but they were good).

Take more elements from the Anime?
No comment. Actually, on the topic of evolution, I know this would never happen in a mainline game, but I wish I didn't have to make my Pokemon evolve (To actually make them viable late game/postgame I mean).

Make it more difficult?
Yes yes and more yes. XY was made for babies.

Remove HMs?
HMs never bothered me since I don't mind giving them to my main team, especially in games like XY where you could probably stomp everything if you just kept tackle. That said they're a pretty outdated mechanic and I wouldn't be sad to see them go.

More Post-Game Story?
Yes, but focus on the main story first, imo.

Re: Nintendo NX Will Be Launched Globally in March 2017

Gorlokk

@Souldin
I could have worded that better... But I'm just assuming that most of the bigger Wii U projects have been moved to the NX by now. It made a lot sense when we all thought the NX would be shown off at E3, but even now in this scenario it still makes sense because the Wii U is on its deathbed right now more than ever, and the only family member at its side is Color Splash, who is just in the same hospital room on the other side.

Re: Nintendo NX Will Be Launched Globally in March 2017

Gorlokk

What a disaster. I never realized how much I wanted Nintendo to abandon the Wii U until now. No matter how good Zelda looks, it won't be coming out for over half a year, and the fact that they aren't going to show off the NX means that we probably won't be seeing any new Wii U games. I doubt the 3DS will have a strong presence either aside from maybe Sun/Moon.

This is terrible news. As a big Nintendo fan, they've dropped to the bottom for me as right now. I'm still hopeful about the NX, but I guess I shouldn't have gotten hyped up for an NX-filled E3.

Re: Western Localisation Of Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Features Costume And Age Changes

Gorlokk

I just don't get it. Fire Emblem fans have little to look forward to in this game. SMT fans have little to look forward to. At this point the game was only appealing to an already super niche crowd within a small pool of people. In all honesty, most people interested in this game at this point in time are avid JRPG fans, who WANT the things that are being taken out, no matter how trivial. People will claim how many of these changes aren't relevant to gameplay, which is true for the most part, but the ultimate question is simply why? This isn't a mainstream game. This game is going only to the hands of JRPG enthusiasts and weeaboos, both of which are definitely not new to the concept of bikinis. Who does Atlus/Nintendo think this game is marketed to? From my point of view, the changes are trivial in the grand scheme of things, however they're completely unnecessary changes at the same time. Whoever made the decisions be it Atlus or Nintendo,

they dun goofed, and they're gonna lose sales because of it.

Re: Video: Shigeru Miyamoto Reflects on His Days Working on Pokémon

Gorlokk

@Master_A1
Look, just because Miyamoto is one of the most influential, if not the most influential person in the gaming industry, doesn't mean he gets a pass for everything. Also the motion controls were not an 'achievement' for Skyward Sword. I don't think something that made the game borderline unplayable at times (for many people, don't claim that they were great because they worked fine just for you) could be called an achievement.

Re: Rumour: The Pokémon Company Plans to Make a Big-Budget Live-Action Pokémon Movie

Gorlokk

I don't get why people are so against video game movie adaptations. I honestly just don't get it. Yeah they're usually not that good, but... I don't know. I guess I personally don't see bad movies to be a stain upon a video game franchise. Although, if the movie only featured Gen 1 Pokemon and was based around Red and Blue or something, then okay into the trash it goes, but I'm always willing to give a video game movie a shot.

Re: Poll: The Utterly Charming Animal Crossing Series Is 15 Today, But Which Is Your Favourite?

Gorlokk

Lol, who picked Amiibo Festival just for shirts and giggles?

Anyway, I gotta be totally honest: Although I've put nearly 400 hours into New Leaf, probably making it one of my most played games ever, I kind of really hate it. People claim that Animal Crossing is a 'casual game' for 'hardcore gamers,' which I kind of agree with since I feel I fall more so on the hardcore side of things. But Animal Crossing is a game where you have to play EXACTLY how IT wants you to play it. There's just no way around it. You can't get better at the game.
You can't change how it works. You just have to roll with whatever it gives you. You can't decide where neighbors set up their houses, you can't get rid of pesky rocks, you can't make neighbors leave, or at least speed up the process at all. There's no way to keep your favorite neighbors, so taking breaks from the game is really risky if you have a town full of villagers you actually like... There's so many things.
I still like Animal Crossing but boy it really does turn into a chore eventually. The worst part is, I feel like the series isn't going to change really any of these things because the developers have always wanted you to play by their rules (running deteriorates grass, so you better walk and play the game like you should be!) which makes wacky spinoffs like Amiibo Festival all the more disappointing because an AC spinoff has a lot of potential. Like, I think something like an Animal Crossing Mystery Dungeon game would actually work well.

Also, for a game called ANIMAL Crossing, it's disappointing how shallow the neighbors and their dialogue really are. The game is more about designing your house, and in New Leaf, your village (which is a huge pain honestly). I'd like to see more effort put into the dialogue especially in the next mainline game.

Re: Atlus is Now 30 Years Old

Gorlokk

Atlus definitely offers the best 3rd party content on the 3DS in my opinion. I mean, is there really much competition? It's sad how when I think "Nintendo" and "3rd party" I instantly think of Capcom and Konami, both of which aren't really offering much. Well, Capcom still has Ace Attorney and Monster Hunter.

Re: Review: Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon (3DS)

Gorlokk

I just beat this game. At least, the main story. Gameplay is definitely a hit or miss for some people, but I like it. I wouldn't say I love it, but I think it works and is enjoyable enough. I don't understand where the complaints for grinding come in. I didn't have to grind once. The game gives you so much money and items that the only times I had difficulties were when I purposefully limited the amount of items I brought with me (although this was mostly so I'd have room to pick up more items).

I mean, honestly now, you can only do one or two missions before the next story segment comes up. And considering there isn't any other way to pass the time in game, I wouldn't consider this grinding. As for the complaints about the tutorial taking too long, I see the complaint, but the tutorial is tied in with the actual story, which for me is a positive. The only other Mystery Dungeon game I've played is Red Rescue Team on GBA (which I never beat), and I remember the story moving a lot slower in that game, so having a new cutscene every day or every other day in-game was refreshing to me.

The soundtrack for this game is great, too. Just an amazing soundtrack. Some songs come back from previous PMD games, which is pretty rad. I recognized the song from Gates to Infinity (I never bought the game, but I played the demo), and from what I've heard, the music would probably be the best part of GtI anyway, at least for me.

Lastly, the story won't appeal to everyone... But it really got to me. The slow start and innocent nature of the story is merely a ruse. The last few hours of the main story are ridiculous. I could hardly believe I was playing a Pokemon game. If you're the kind of person who gets attached to characters, I think you'll enjoy this story. Especially if you use names that mean something to you.

As I said above, I've only played one other PMD game, and as far as the mainline series goes, I've played a lot of Red, some of Emerald, some of Pearl, beaten Black, some of White 2, and beaten Y, so even though I do enjoy the franchise, I'm not a die hard fan. With that said, I really want to give SMD a 10 for the story alone, but I think a 9 would be more appropriate. I'm serious man, this story is something else! Cliche as it can be, it knows why cliches are cliches-- because they can definitely work.

Re: Paper Mario Colour Splash Coming to Wii U

Gorlokk

Very disappointing to see that it's so similar to Sticker Star. I'm trying not to be too sad, but... Come one, did they really hear enough praise for Sticker Start to think that another gimmicky, non-RPG Paper Mario is what fans wanted? Give me a break. I know there's the Mario and Luigi games that are still pretty faithful to their roots. Why can't Paper Mario be the same?

Re: Ori and the Blind Forest Director Criticises Secrecy and Lack of Access to NX Devkits

Gorlokk

Wow. I know this is a Nintendo focused site and I'm used to seeing people here jump to the defense of Nintendo at the drop of a hat, but have you guys forgotten about the Wii U already? The fact that this is an "indie nobody"(even though their game won at least one category in the GOTY awards) is irrelevant because Nintendo lacking support is a serious issue.

The NX is going to need games to be successful! It's as simple as that.

Re: The Pokémon Splatfest Results Have Been Confirmed

Gorlokk

I gotta admit, I was a little bothered at how many times my generally low-leveld team got matched up with 4 high-levels... With that said, I feel like there wasn't complete domination by Blue, so it all seems pretty fair. Fun times! Wish I won, but I still get snails, so it's no biggie.

Re: Chasing Aurora Dev Broken Rules Offers To Port Undertale To Wii U

Gorlokk

Wow, looks like some progress might be made... I'm all for Undertale on Wii U or 3DS. I'm curious to see how they'd do so many of the odd things in the game on a console. And man, how awesome would it be to have a physical copy? Maybe there could be a Frisk amiibo that (((Spoilers))) gives you back your soul after trading it away to play again, avoiding the implied ending of the post-genocide pacifist run. Or some other cool stuff...

Wow, I haven't gone crazy with imagination for something like an indie game since Cave Story, but honestly if Shovel Knight can get a physical release and amiibo, I really do think it's slightly possible for Undertale. I don't think some people realize how crazy popular this game is. I have friends that hardly play video games that know all about Undertale. I've seen Undertale drawings at my college in the art room. All the Undertale OST videos on youtube have millions of views. I don't know how it happened, but the game just blew up bigtime.

Re: Splatoon Producer Hints at More Content Being Added in the Future

Gorlokk

You know, on a similar note, I'm really curious what Splatoon 2 will offer-- if there ever is one. Some people think it's inevitable, and yeah, I don't see Nintendo shoving this one to the side like F-Zero or something seeing as how well it sold (and on the Wii U no less!). But I guess I'm just wondering, because as it is Splatoon is pretty damn solid in my opinion. I don't know what kind of big changes could be added in the sequel aside from stages weapons, and some new game modes.
