Pokémon is now well into its 20th Anniversary celebrations, in what should be another big year of releases and events for fans. The Pokémon Company has been promoting the landmark with the #Pokemon20 hashtag and a series of videos, with various game makers and celebrities talking about their love for the series.
The latest video features the one and only Shigeru Miyamoto, who offers congratulations and talks about his involvement in the first-generation games, notably working on the Link Cable functionality. Check it out below.
As a little bonus this week's Nintendo Minute is certainly worth a watch as Kit and Krysta show off co-op play in Star Fox Zero.

He's never looked more his age... love him though!
@davidevoid I was thinking the same! Bless him, he's done so much for us all
Wow that star Fox video came out on nowhere haha, always nice to see miyamoto! He's done so much for us as Nintendo fans haha
Eh. I'm not the biggest Miyamoto fan, what with his c*ckblocking of Skyward Sword (he didn't want much of a story focus, meaning the more linear set-up of the game kind of went to waste) and Sticker Star (self-explanatory: working off of a random Club Nintendo poll).
I feel like his promotion to "Creative Fellow" may have been a way of "kicking him up-stairs", so that he has a much broader, shallower focus on things instead of messing around with specific projects.
One word to describe Miyamoto: legendary!
@CrazedCavalier You don't like him because of what he did recently but had no issues with what he did back then? lame.
No matter what he does, he'll always be my favorite dude ever! He made Nintendo the giant it is now all thanks to him.
It seems like Miyamoto has had a hand in MANY successful Nintendo franchises! I sometimes wonder what that would feel like, knowing you can bring joy to so many people.
I wonder when starting out if Miyamoto-dono had any idea how awesome he would become...
Yeah, Miyamoto's a pretty cool guy, but I can't shake the feeling that the blue jumper he's sporting in the first video just doesn't suit him.
I don't think wide, horizontal bands really flatter anyone, and all that blue just seems a bit overbearing. I think grey with some splashes of colour is more his thing. He's got the suit jacket + T-shirt look down to a fine art, but I guess everyone needs to experiment now and then, even as they grow older.
In games as well as fashion.

@CrazedCavalier If this is the only thing you have to say about the industry's most influental and important person, that's just sad. Zelda's story never was it's biggest achievement, but of course you don't mention a single word about motion control's biggest achievement with Skyward Sword. Also Intelligent Systems aren't the same team as they were back in the days of Advance Wars or Paper Mario on N64 and GCN. The fact that Miyamoto forced them to use more of the same Mushroom Kingdom characters isn't the reason for Sticker Star to be the least beloved game of the franchise, it was it's battle system and the whole sticker system. IS were in charge, Miyamoto didn't develope the game.
@Master_A1
Look, just because Miyamoto is one of the most influential, if not the most influential person in the gaming industry, doesn't mean he gets a pass for everything. Also the motion controls were not an 'achievement' for Skyward Sword. I don't think something that made the game borderline unplayable at times (for many people, don't claim that they were great because they worked fine just for you) could be called an achievement.
@Gorlokk
It's only widely agreed that Skyward Sword's controls were extremely finnicky at times. It is not agreed on by many that it made the game unplayable, only the vocal minority, many of whom were Nintendo haters, so I mean..
Anyway, was cool hearing about Miyamoto's contributions to Pokemon. Made me reconsider the Link Cable. I only borrowed one for a couple of trades, so I kind of mostly ignored it.
Hmmm, I thought I'd enjoy that SFZero co-op but it seems relegating the first player to only flying removes a lot of the fun for a StarFox game.
Maybe if there was more to 1P's role I'd be much more excited, havent been this uninterested in an StarFox game since Command.....
@davidevoid I was thinking exactly this; I think it's the sweater/shirt combination that does it!!
I can't believe Miyamoto is rewarded way less financially than Taylor Swift and Meghan Trainor whose songs I personally don't understand why are such big hits.
