The switch may have one of the best game libraries since SNES, but I still truly miss the Nintendo style charm and quirkyness the 3DS and Wii U era had. I brought my 3DS to high school almost every day once I got one late freshman year. I remember going to a Pokemon X and Y midnight release and raking in tons of street passes, and then playing X and Y til the wee hours of the morning with my friend.
Also I was thrilled when I finally finished every puzzle in streetpass, but at some point when I was... Future-proofing my 3DS, if you know what I mean, I somehow lost all of my spotpass puzzles. It still hurts.
@Wexter One does not need to compose for a video game to say it's bad. Unless you're prepared to defend some sonic chronicles or crazy bus music? Cripes mate use your brain for once.
I'm 90 hours in the game and having a lot of fun, but the ost is one of the weakest in the series imo. There are good songs ofc, I love the water town and SOME of the overworld themes, but a lot of the music sounds half assed to me, which perhaps isn't surprising since the game looks half baked too. The crowd chanting when the gym leaders crystallize their final Pokemon makes my ears want to retire from life. YouI've played every gen btw, so naturally I'm comparing my experience with this game to all 8 other gens. Oh okay wait, I skipped gen 8 lol.
This is actually a pretty tough question for me. What do I believe was most important as a whole? Probably just playing and seeing certain games in handheld mode and how great it looks.
On a more personal level though, Mario Odyssey and Breath of the Wild are absolutely amazing (though I beat BotW on Wii U first, it was still the first game I bought for my switch near launch). Also, Shin Megami Tensei V. The story kinda sucks, but I can't properly put into words how it felt to finally play it. The gameplay and level design in that game are not just great by SMT standards but for all JRPGs. The music... Oh, the music!! Flaws acknowledged, it was a dream come true playing that game.
@Flint Oh for goodness... Would you listen to yourself? Earthbound fans: exist You: this whole basing your whole personality around one game needs to stop. If you think that being a fan, or even a big fan of a game equates to basing your life around that one thing, that sounds like you have some wild misunderstandings, or just assume crap because you feel like it. I consider myself a huge fan of earthbound among many other franchises and none of them are the basis of how I live my life.
Close-minded ass. I suppose you must live your life around Golden Sun having a djinn icon?
Every time there's an earthbound/mother article, I read more comments complaining about the series' fans than I do people sharing in the excitement.
"Oh but there's too many articles about an old game!" Get over it! It's a good game that to this day influences game after game, including one of the most successful indies of all time, Undertale. And this is a Nintendo fansite for goodness sakes. Complain more. I'll read almost any EB article because there's still neat and new things to hear about almost daily. That'll happen when you have a really passionate fanbase.
Lol I'm blown away they didn't keep the name Project TriTri after games like octopath traveller and project triangle strategy released with their "name not final" names
@Pupuplatter Man that's 13 more fans than you'll ever have in your life!
Reminder that Mother 3 is one of the greatest RPGs ever made, which is why until the day comes when it gets an official translated release or remake, people will ask for it. It's that simple. Legendary games aren't forgotten easily.
The more time passes, the more I understand how Game Freak might feel the need to put a limit on how many Pokemon appear in any game. That said, I think the timing is bad. For me personally, I hate that the first true HD console Pokemon game is the one that has to make this change that was undoubtedly going to go over poorly at first. In my eyes, this should be the one Pokemon game that broke boundaries, not set up new, limiting ones.
I guess it's just opened up my eyes to the fact that Game Freak, unlike Nintendo, does not really care about evolving their franchise, which is really sad coming right off the heels of Breath of the Wild, and Mario Odyssey. Oh, and what other Nintendo game got delayed because the developers actually want to make a game that is fitting for its first true HD outing: Animal Crossing, and that news came right around the time of all the Pokemon hubbub almost like Nintendo is acknowledging the fact that they too know of the sad fate of Pokemon, but at least are trying the best with their own IPs lol
If The Wonderful 101 gets a Switch port, then all of my Wii U library will be available elsewhere... Kinda neat, but mostly bittersweet. Makes the Wii U feel even more forgotten.
Oh man I'm not gonna lie, I'll probably buy the game mainly for the ost if Toby Fox is doing it. I'm really excited to hear what he has for a game like this, I think there's some really exciting potential here. Of course, for me, music is one of my favorite aspects about games so I can see why many are still pretty unsure about this one.
Is there any explanation for why the Switch version is coming out later? I've had more faith in this damn game than I do in myself, and I have since the moment it was announced. I know that it's no use complaining but I just feel somewhat cheated. I paid my $60 well in advance but I gotta wait a week while others that didn't reserve a copy in advance can just buy to play on release? Well if I had known that, I wouldn't have backed it! But I did, and I paid in advance to make sure that I could play the game as soon as it came out. Oh but it's just dumb Nintendo luck that the Switch, among the 3 other platforms this gets released on, is the only one to have a delayed release. I really was at peak hype for the game by the end of the trailer until I realized I have to wait a week longer than every other platform for no apparent reason (and if there is a reason I'm sure it's a garbage one)
I apologize for the salty rant but it's a bitter pill to swallow when one of the few games you're truly looking forward to that you invested cash and faith in just dicks you out of the blue
Oh I watched the first set of episodes of Diggin in the carts and it was awesome! I'm looking forward to this. Website says the next episode will be about Tim follin, neato!!
The announcer got way too excited to announce ports of PS1/PS2 games for Switch. Anyone who has truly wanted to play FF7-10 has surely not been waiting for the day it would arrive on a Nintendo console.
YES! All I've wanted in Smash Bros. for so long is some sort of Castlevania character! This is definitely greater than I could have ever hoped for. Two playable characters, an awesome assist trophy, an incredible stage full of bosses and monsters from the franchise, a ton of incredible music, and one of the coolest reveal trailers for any Smash character. I still can't believe IT ACTUALLY HAPPENED!!
If this is true, then the next generation will more than likely just be standard pokemon fare. I'd really like them to take their tame and actually wow fans like Breath of the Wild and Mario Odyssey did.
Everything about the game looks awesome aside from the horribly out of place Miis. Why. Simply why. could there not be any custom character creator in-game? Every other character model looks incredibly charming and is in the games own unique art style, and then you have straight up mii faces from mii maker like who thought this was fitting??
I bought this soundtrack as soon as I found out it was released and have been listening nonstop since! I highly recommend it to fans of game soundtracks in general. For me, having been following the project for seven years or so now... it means a whole lot more! It's so rad
@patbacknitro18 You speak as if this game is going to reach the entire audience of the 3DS. It will not, not even a small fraction.
The Switch on the other hand is a super hot topic and eshop games have been doing great on there. Yeah, the 3DS obviously has a bigger install base, but that's not the entire point...
Disappointing that it's on 3DS if only because I think it would have had a much better chance of finding success on Nintendo's shiny new home console... Just sayin', I really like both games, but no one knows or talks about them, and I don't think this game will change that.
Either way, the game itself looks really freaking great going by that trailer, so I'll definitely pick it up.
As much as I love Pokemon, I do think that the mainline series could really benefit from change, or evolve in some way... Exciting to think about for sure!
as far as live action video game commercials go, this was actually super cool. I don't know what's cringe about it at all. I'm actually stunned that this much effort was actually put into a fire emblem commercial, especially for the mobile game.
Oh thank goodness. I was so confused by the decision to leave them out to begin with. Well, now that it has this and the co-op mode on the way, it seems like the Switch port of Cave Story may be the the definitive version.
Just got back from gamestop with mine. As a die hard Cave Story fan, the release in general is just so awesome to me. Cave Story on a home console (a physical release at that) at long last.
A new Castlevania from Konami would be interesting because we don't really know what to expect. It won't be Lords of Shadows and it won't be an Igavania, so what will it be? I'm curious and excited at the possibilities, but a little frightened too...
I have faith in Iga. The E3 demo from a year ago looked better than all of Mighty Number 9. We haven't had a true Igavania since Order of Ecclesia, almost a whole decade ago. It is going to take a lot for my trust in this game to die. I've loved every single Iga Castlevania game I've played and I know this one won't be any different.
