Regarding Mario and Co. Donkey Kong, Luigi, Wario, Toad, Yoshi and others that share his universe but star in other games can keep Illumination.
Regarding other brands like Metroid, Zelda, Star Fox, Animal Crossing or Pikmin. If they decide to give them movies, give them to Nintendo Pictures or some other studios that specialize in the tones of those games given they differ wildly from the Marioverses hijinx and wackiness..
@RiasGremory Sure. But I’d rather the whole film not be 100 percent mission. I also want context. The chozo, her parents, Ridley. All being a minor but just enough to keep the film varied
I could see Donkey Kong, Luigi's Mansion, Yoshi and maybe Kirby working well with Illumination. Zelda, Metroid, Star Fox, or any other IP that could have a good shot at cinema. Please go with someone else or use that Nintendo Pictures studio you acquired.
Maybe not great but some of them being remarkable, and having great moments in them. And even if they weren't, an original story that isn't adapting any of the games, creating its own plot with its own that uses elements from the games like characters and settings wouldn't have to worry about it. Since we don't know the details.
I know folks are waiting for Odyssey 2 but I'm honestly more interested in a new side scroller that isn't the "New" series. While the next big budget platformer game is actually Donkey Kong hopefully.
Sounds like this movie isn't the dumbster fire everyone claimed it was going to be, at least its going better than the Bob Hoskins film. I mean, I get video game films have got a bad rep, even with the few decent exceptions. But Sonic, Detective Pikachu, and now the 3rd Mario Movie look to be breaking that cycle. By reputation anyway.
Kirby may have gotten more love for his anniversary than any of the other series combined. We got the first true mainline 3d game, a racing spin off, a wiimaster, along with a slew of classics for the online service.
We also got the show getting blueray, the symphony, bunch of merch, the cafe adding to their menu. Comparing all that to Mario, Pokemon, Zelda, Sonic and Metroid which all got something but not nowhere near that much respect.
You should've brought up The gameboy Zelda's Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks If they're more of the same. Granted if they were all made around Tears of the Kingdom was made and released. Wonder if the accusation of being DLC would apply. Its easy to make judgements of a game that we only saw brief footage of in trailers.
Wonder if people who have been salty that Charles Martinet is not playing Mario on the pretext that "he's always been Mario" ever since the announcement, are folks that never knew of the Super Show or live action movie. Cpt Lou Albano, Walker Boone and Bob Hoskins all predate Charles. You don't have to like Chris Pratt and you can glorify Martinet all you want. I'm just saying know if your pretext is the truth.
While I liked the new mechanics of what I saw with the ultra hand runes, the recall and combining of monster parts and objects. I don’t think they needed to announce a 10 minute showing of gameplay footage. They couldve just dropped a 3-5 minute trailer elaborating on these new mechanics. It’s all good stuff but not really stuff you hype up like this.
Great game and a valuable lesson. It doesn’t matter if an action adventure is linear or open but how it goes about them.. Fusion doubles down on the environmental puzzles while throwing some urgency with the SA X and crumbling space station. Also props for this game fleshing out Samus during the elevator monologues and the ending screens.
Edit: I don’t get either con this review lists of linearity, and not adding much to the series. It added the Samus doppelgänger, stalker, Adam, Horror, real characterization for Samus. Stuff that Dread, later prime games and Other M would adopt.
Well that's usually the dynamic for both. Metroid always resonated more with the west with the east always being in Kirby's corner. Sure there are players from the opposite that might like or be interested in both. But in the grand scheme of things. Both have regional bias and support.
@CJD87 For your information. There have been revivals since 2021, just not the series you’d think about. Smaller stuff, like advanced wars, famicom detective club, 2d Metroid, Pikmin. Just none of them being Star Fox, F Zero, Wave Race, or kid Icarus. And 2022 had no ports or remasters whatsoever which was actually a common complaint. No Metroid Prime remastered, no Wind Waker or Twilight Princess.
I question why Starlink is featured and 64 3d is in a separate position. Same game with better graphics and portability. All that said not bad a list. I’d put Assault and Starfox 2 over Adventures and Starlink.
Would love to see a new Starfox game modernized. One that takes inspiration from either Assault, Starlink, or 2. The 64 way can still be there but can’t be the backbone but maybe a side mode. Things are different now In the 20s. Just please don’t rehash lylat wars again.
Nice to see this game get its debut, hopefully Zero Mission comes over as well, haven't played that one yet. All that said. Crazy how history repeats itself. Metroid Prime and Fusion come out together around the same time again just like they did 20 years ago. Its not the same day different system like 2002 but they're close enough.
@Vexx234 If you think about it, Link needs her help and others just as much as she needs his arguably since Ocarina of Time and to a lesser extent ALltP. It's a codependent partnership. Yeah she was a damsel in distress but in several cases, she was saving the world or Link in a few of the times when she was, making all the tough calls and sacrifieses. And in the 3d games, Link probably would've lost to Ganon, not have progressed or failed many of the adventures if it wasn't for her. Link is guided, lead, trained, progressed and beats Ganon with her help.
No arguments about Spirit Tracks or Skyward Sword being the best. Course I won't raise an eyebrow at the other girls Link forms relationships with. But the life long friendship of Zelda and Link in SS and the Fullmetal Alchemist positions in Spirit Tracks. They have it going on more then Breath's from knight and princess to companions relationship could've done.
@IreBurn Actually I don't, never played a Batman Arkham game in my life. And even if I did I still wouldn't waver on the gun ship being used if they think they could execute it well.
I don't know but somethings wrong here. The critics liked it but this game is getting review bombed. I'll play it when February starts but, I'm keeping my expectations even.
Surprised nobody brought up Metroid or Eternal Darkness. Games that feed off their gritt as opposed to Zelda, Fire Emblem, Kirby, or Earthbound which have gritty sides to them but do not always commit
I feel like 2017 is a little overhyped as far as Switch goes. A chunk of those games were available on Wii U as well as still having slack carried by 3ds. This year had all original games as far as first party goes and little to no droughts. Not that I mind ports. They expand an audience. Though I guess one could argue that there might've been too much going on. Some months having several games cannibalize each other.
It's been a great ride and I hope all VAs of Ash. Veronica, Rica and Sarah best wishes on their future journeys. Ash will be missed. I feel like Pokemon stood out from other series by not replacing their protagonist with another like Yu-Gi-Oh does.
@SmoothAndFunky Oh so Tears of the Kingdom the sequel to Breath of the Wild, Fire Emblem Engage, Pikmin 4 or Metroid Prime 4 and wanting them to be the best they can so they take their time are lazy and uninspired nor count? And games like New Pokemon Snap, Luigi's Mansion 3, Famicom Detective Club, Metroid Dread, Brain Academy, and Advance Wars are not old IP that have been ignored eh? If all of that is nothing then I can't imagine what something is.
Yeah, it's been 18 years since the last T rated Zelda. I don't count Majora's Mask becoming rated T over time because it wasn't intentionally made with that rating
About time Xenoblade is finally getting recognition for the game awards after 2 and DE got squat. Side note Nintendo games have gotten nominated more times than you think and won once so nothing is impossible.
2017: Breath of the wild won with Mario Odyssey nominated
2019: Smash Brothers Ultimate was nominated won best fighting game
2020: Animal Crossing New Horizons nominated won best family game
2021: Metroid Dread nominated won best action adventure game.
@AtlanteanMan I'm just saying, discounting shoddy ports and a spinoff. We haven't had an original game in 5 years. As for other properties, if a game is quality then who cares what if it's outsourced or not Though I hear some of what I mentioned isn't.
@AtlanteanMan Other IP from Sega got a chance. Shenmue, Monkey Ball, Streets of Rage, Panzar Dragoon, Yakuza. Sure Sega didn't bring them back and they've been hit and miss sucess wise. But we haven't gotten an original sonic game since 2017, 2018 if we count Team Sonic Racing.
Well deserved. Before the Switch, Kirby's been as niche as Metroid in opposite territories. Glad to see it and Metroid dread hit the highest heights the series has crossed.
Regarding the comparison of the two. You can't blame people for making that judgement at first. A blue character running from robots to a grassy plain filled with towers and hills staring onto the horizon with a subtle piano melody that loops. Deny that quincidence. The boost mode is now more designed like Links stamina meter. Also Amnesia.
Now Zelda is an Action Adventure game by fact. They have similarities with role playing games, not necessarily the same thing. They can use elements of both.
Finally a statement I can get behind Jenny Hale, she has been the only one who's word in all this I care about. Even though she didnt need to be roped in to this in the first place. I still get the feeling this isn't the last we hear on this fiasco. It would be great if everyone learned from this and ask questions on both sides of the story before jumping to judgement.
