I've soften my stance if they're having platinum port it as just a stop gap and not thee tentpole Star Fox game. Maybe there are some things to like about that game like how Star Wolf dog fights and hyper speed. Still that game being a retrake of Star Fox 64 after we already had one on the 3ds and its back on the Switch feels like it won't go anywhere.
Especially considering if Star Fox Assault is the action game Bandai Namco are remaking right now.
@AstroTheGamosian Well I don't know Bandai Namco's track record with their remakes. And while by research I can see how Mario 3d Allstars was a lazy port as it was just emulation. Skyward Sword on the other hand, I mean, on top of 60fps/1080p from the wii's 30fps/480p and adding a new control scheme, you call adding camera control, cutting a lot of excessive handholding (Fi, repeated Item information, NPC tutorials) skippable cutscenes, and including auto save lazy?
@AstroTheGamosian I could see 1, 2, 3 (barring Zero's vehicles), 5, and 7. Maybe 2 if we're lucky, 6 if its for missions, and 4 if its multiplayer only.
They can't just shoehorn those characters into a plot they weren't apart of unless the game has another campaign like Xenoblade DE, or its a reimagining like Samus Returns, or in a sequel. Otherwise they risk throwing stuff out of wack.
Same goes for bringing other vehicles into the mix. The game wasn't made with them in mind. Plus Assault has several gameplay styles to balence as it is.
@russell-marlow It's specifically said to be an HD remake of a 3d action game under Nintendo's umbrella. Kid Icarus and Star Fox Assault fit the bill and are the ones speculated given the later was worked on by Namco. Could also be Sin and Punishment as that falls into the action category.
As for what would prompt them to remake them. Whatever prompted them to remake Famicom Detective Club and Advance Wars or Metroid 2.
@AndyC_MK111 I'm talking about people who just got into the series, streamers who just got into the games now in preparation for 3 or have been for a while before 3 was announced. Folks who either might not have had a Switch when 2 or DE came out or just JRPG players that didn't have Xenoblade on the raidar.
They only go after fan made projects if said projects are profiting directly off it. Or if they're working on a project a kin to that Samus Returns. In all honesty I would like Nintendo to utilize fan talent like Sega has with Christian Whitehead and Sonic Mania. I mean look at Cryzenx's Ocarina of Time Unreal Engine and MajorLink's fan animations. They could take care of some of the remakes while Nintendo can get more sequels. Not all remakes though.
Please don't put Splatoon 3 in July. But thats an unusual move. Monolith being that ready. Now people playing the older games to ready have less time to do so. Also makes me wonder what September will have. That new battle system looks intriguing. I like that they change up the combat to make the game its own thing.
@Lord They've been doing everything but Sonic for years now. Unless you count their mobile offerings and the classic collections. We haven't had a new mainline Sonic game since 2017, 2d or 3d.
It would be cool to see Sega tap into their Dreamcast offerings. I haven't played them myself but researched them. Jet Set Radio is ripe for online multiplayer, as the whole game revolves around tagging other games turf kind of like Splatoon.
@russell-marlow @AstroTheGamosian Well that might not be totally impossible. Considering Bandai Namco is working on a 3d action remake of a game under the Nintendo umbrella. Star Fox Assault might have a decent shot. If it's straight action genre like Bayonetta. Not action racers, platformers, RPG's, or sports,
I'm hoping that a Star Fox game brings her, and maybe Miyu, and Fey back. The Star Fox team as is, is a total sausage fest and it would give them some flavor with them. It would be great if Estelle was brought back to be Krystal seeing as Alesia Glidewell retired apparently. Weird seeing Krystal interacting with human characters but the Fox team did in Starlink so full circle.
I dont really want to count platformers, racers, RPGs or sports as action games even if action is involved. I cant see them do Zelda or Metroid, especially Metroid if it was Prime 4. That leaves Kid Icarus or Star Fox. Namco did work on Assault so that would make sense if they took and improved that one
I played and enjoyed Xenoblade DE, Famicom Detective Clubs and the Zelda rereleases. Links Awakening and Skyward Sword. I like the remasters that fix issues the old version had or sharpen and make it look prettier.
That being said, I hope Grezzo remaking Link's Awakening was a testing if they could work on 2d Zelda on HD hardware and they get another chance to make their own 2d Zelda game. Much like how Mercury Steam got to work on Metroid Dread after proving themselves with Samus Returns which sold way worse then Links Awakening's Remake.
If they want to do a movie then I can only see it working with the roster from the original game. A series on the other hand with the roster size of WiiU and Ultimate akin to Justice League Unlimited could work if cards are played right.
I've seen a lot of praising/swooning/fluster/ and work out declorations in reactions to this on twitter. Which yeah, while the Link's particularly the teen adult variety have all been lookers. It's usually been referred to their faces then their physique .
Also talk about double standards, how we say it adds to men but takes away from women.
@daveMcFlave Except they gave Link from Twilight Princess a build. Not a lumberjack body but still beefy. You see it during the sumo wrestling. So it couldn't be that muscles and relatability are mutually exclusive.
So Mario, Sonic and Pokemon get multiple chances for films. the latter 2 succeeded with the Mario one not known yet. But Zelda or Metroid, the games with the universe, lore, mythos, and movie DNA don't? Maybe they'll follow suit depending on that Mario Movie. If they do, hopefully by a different studio that has experience with the genres and kind of universes these games take place in.
I was leaning more toward it being delayed after seeing Pokemon Violet/Scarlet. Its hard to see both games coinciding for the holiday. Not to say that's all it was but just a thought. I'm sure they're going to work more on it anyway. Between Xenoblade 3 and Pokemon, Zelda then might be too much.
I do wonder what this means for next 2d top down Zelda project and its window. If it makes it before the end of the Switch lifespan. Will it be saved for the next console?
@StarPoint Metroid would be great. The symphony of the goddess would be nice to see again. Along with Xenoblade, Donkey Kong, and Fire Emblem getting their own bands and orchestras.
If only it was in person and in the states. But great that its happening at all. I look forward to it. Wondering which or how many game's music are being represented in this.
The frequency of N64 games is going more then the SNES is or was. The exact opposite of what we expected. I mean we just got Majora's Mask. Now here's hoping they emulate it correctly.
@Askalt I know Metroid has movie DNA in it too and I'm aware of Metroid and Alien. Along with "2001: A Space Odyssey" inspiring Super", Fusion being inspired by "The Thing", and Prometheus apparently inspiring Dread. Thats why I'm surprised Metroid wasn't on that poll.
Surprised Metroid is not on the poll. I'm all in for this someday and can see a good film if the passion is there and the cards are played right. An original story not tied to the games, Anime, CGI, or even Live Action.
Zelda has had movie DNA in it for years. Most of the 3d games took inspiration from movies. Majora's Mask had a German film "Run Lola Run". Wind Waker took from the "Little Prince and the Eight Headed Snake". Twilight Princess learned from "Lord of the Rings" films, Breath had Princess Mononoke from Ghibli. And it's theorized that Skyward Sword was inspired by Laputa Castle in the Sky, also from Ghibli. If Zelda games can take influence from films, surely the Zelda brand deserves a chance at one.
Those who say one shouldn't' happen because question of how high expectations are or how would Link who doesn't talk be written, you can't please everyone no matter how much and read the manga to see how Link could be written.
Not bad. Noah looks like he's from Fire Emblem but to fit him in Xenoblade, they gave him Elma's jacket. As for Mio, nice to see the gormatti again. I'm more curious about the rest of the cast. The high entia girl, the maquina guy, the Homs guy, and the blade girl. Also I could've sworn I heard Al Weaver and Catrin Hue. Rex and Nia's voice actors.
@Serpo I'm sure that would be if XB3 were a holiday title sometime between October-December, not September. If Zelda launches in Late November-Mid December with Xenoblade in September, that might be enough space.
Adventure 2 was my first gamecube game and first console game that I owned. Loved it to pieces back than. While I wonder how Sega would've faired if Sega stayed in the console market, Me and many Nintendo fans would never have been introduced to Sonic.
Glad this is what's happening this year instead of a remake or mainline game because there are a ton of tactics games already coming out. Also 3 Houses was only 2 and a half years ago. New games take time. A remake could take that but a not a new game.
I don't feel like we need much as we want this time. Mostly more gameplay and release dates with some new surprises. 2022 doesn't really feel like a good time for Fire Emblem with all the tactical games we're already getting or a new 2d Zelda in the middle waiting for BoTW 2. Some ports wouldn't hurt and maybe either a new DK or Star Fox would be great but if they're happening I sort of expect those two next year as well.
As for Arms 2, Mario Kart 9, Xenoblade 3 or a new 3d Mario Game. Maybe one of them but I just don't want 2022 to just be overcrowded or mainly sequels of 2017 at least no more than it is now with Zelda, Mario and Rabbids, and Splatoon. Rather it have its own identity with similarities. Also them saying inspite of doing the contrary before is to expect mainly the first half. Not the whole year.
I like what I'm seeing here. The game has more going on than what it revealed in the first trailer. More fleshed out level design and challenges. I like the new power ups and central hud.

I see Nintendo is continuing the trend of holding out on features in the first trailer but fleshing them out and making them better in the second like they've been doing for half their entries. Like nobody knew or thought this game was going to have Co op.
