Very nice, but could we get some soundtracks from Xenoblade and a couple of Zelda's like TP, ST, and EOW. I like they're getting WW and ST but room for improvement. Along with the Fire Emblem Switch games.
Looking good, like the interface and the 13 or so franchises that are on there, nice start but there's room for improvement, the entries from previous consoles like the gameboy advance and n64 could use some love. Also glad they're adding franchises like F Zero, so maybe Xenoblade too I hope Nintendo. I'm glad they'll be updating this overtime.
That sucks, I really had a fun time with the game. A fun alternative to Metroid Dread. Greedy riffraff at Ubisoft, firing a team because it underperformed. Heck 2 million, thats not an unusual metric for how 2d Metroidvanias do. It took Metroid 35 years to have a game that did 3 mil.
@Friendly I'll give you 2022's fall direct, but are you sure two different Mario RPG's were announced in one showcase? In fact I seem to recall the Mario RPG being an October/November game. It doesn't make sense that one would only be given a month's notice in advance.
Come to think of it, When have we ever enjoyed September directs. I mean since the launch, all the past September directs I recall have been marketing campaigns to flesh out their established line up for the final quarter of the year and a bit of Jan-March of the following year. We always come away complaining that its just stuff we already know which is the point. But they don't need directs to do that.
I've always welcomed Zelda as a playable protagonist. Its partly why I scoffed at the whole "female link" stuff during BoTW's hype. Though I suppose thats kind of coming to fruition with Zelda's sword mode. I know its for the traditionalists who aren't onboard with the echoes and or Link not being the lead. But kind of wish they gave Zelda something like a rapier with altered sword play like TP or the spin offs. I'm sure many traditionalists could adapt and compromise
I enjoyed the advanced games. Being one of the first sonic games on a Nintendo console, It felt like classic sonic with an adventure feel or vise versa.
@Ryu_Niiyama The point was people who compare this game to PPSt were doing so because of assuming simplicity and they both star princesses. Not because of actual mechanics. Yeah wardrobe changing has been apart of Zelda for a long time but Princess Peach is more recent.
@Rhaoulos But you were open to count Groose, which isn't much more of a main character than Linebeck or Tatl, the player sidekicks and Byrne the villain's henchman. And while they weren't antagonists per-say, Midna was still a lead as much if not more so than the main 3 were in her game, same with Skull Kid, both having morally grey mentalities and backstories that made them that way. But I'll agree with Link, Zelda, and Ganondorf have still been straight regarding their alignment. Though I would've raised Link in Link's Awakening. Where to get off and save Koholint Island, Link choses to wake up the wind fish which destroys it and its inhabitants. But the choice isn't really so much about Link's freedom vs the islands wellbeing as it is about liberating the Wind Fish before Koholint gets wrecked by monsters. Still, Link destroys an island with inhabitants even if none of them were real.
@Rhaoulos What about Hilda and Midna's desperation to save their kingdoms even at Hyrule's expense in A LInk Between Worlds and Twilight Princess? Or Skull Kid being used by the Majora's Mask but the mask feeding into the Skull Kids feelings of isolation and resentment. Tatl and Linebeck having their own agenda's but come through for Link later on. Byrne from helping the bad guys but reforming to help Link in Spirit Tracks.
I'm definitely for Ganondorf being playable somehow, someday in a way that feels like Ganondorf, the wielder of the triforce of power if he's fun and interesting to play. I've had that attitude about Zelda for years. As far as his status as a villain goes. Maybe they make him an anti hero like Shadow the hedgehog and Wario whom also branched off and headline their own games. Maybe thats the answer for Ganondorf who I hope isn't the main final villain in Echoes or the next 3d Zelda on account of fatigue.
I like the title Beyond. The only other property to have that had that title is Batman Beyond. Which something to note because its also cyberpunk with someone in a power suit.
I told everyone that top down Zelda wasn't dead. And it stars Zelda to boot. I know the gamecube and gameboy remakes/remasters were more anticipated but a new top down game and a sort of spin off even though its canon gives me anticipation. Save those remasters for later.
@DiggleDog I've had the same idea in mind. Only I was thinking we'd built it through out the course of the game in which the abilities are tied to the pieces of the suit for progression. Samus being vulnerable in appearance but mechanically naked as well. Not quite like how we did it in Zero Mission.
While I lean on DK getting a new 3d platformer as it worked wonders for Kirby and the forgotten land. DK has shown potential in the 3d space with DK64. Also there's the principal that for the longest time, Mario was all they had. While Sony had five 3d platforms with Crash, Spyro, Ratchet, Sly, and Jak.
I'm also for a Jungle Beat esk game thats longer with standardized controls. I kinda feel like the country format has run its course. And please not a Mario cameo. I've had it with DK sharing spotlights with Mario as DK content. Give him his own game with his own adventure with the kongs.
Well, Tears of the Kingdom could be made a curriculum could be used in college. I guess Fire Emblem could have educational value to be found. Any other Nintendo Franchises that could be included in the school system.
Bring it on, I'm all up for Zelda games staring other characters. I know many people wanted a Sheik game that covered the 7 year time skip which was not the game Retro Studios proposed. The Tingle games exist in Japan. Ganondorf cameoing in Diablo. Lets see them go for it.
@LadyCharlie Wand of Gamelon and Zelda's adventure is where she's the only playable star, not that either of those games are anything to be proud of. But the warriors and cadence and even her bit in spirit tracks are totally agency on her part.
@Lizuka I'll acknowledge that you said most, but I wasn't referring to adaptations. If you're suggesting the classic Zelda's and classic Metroid plots were paper thin, back in the NES and SNES as well as the few odd balls now and then, I won't argue that. And I brought up Splatoon more for lore. I left out their platformers and party games because I know that claim applies to them.
Still, it doesn't really matter if what they adapt has so little or much plot to work with, if they're creating a brand new one altogether for whatever series they adapt.
@Lizuka Zelda, modern Metroid, Splatoon, and pretty much their entire catalog of action games and rpgs from FE, Xenoblade, Earthbound and the like have virtually no plot?
Maybe its one of the handhelds. We know it isn't Ocarina, Breath, or heck even Wind or Twilight. Those are cookie cutter answers. the gameboy or ds games are obscure enough to be hot but reviewed fine enough to be cold.
Edit: Lets not assume that whatever his favorite game is will be the plot of the movie
I'm expecting remakes, remasters or some spin offs. So maybe Mario sluggers, something like a port of Links crossbow training, a remaster of Diddy kong racing, or Kirby air ride 2. Switch is in its sunset year. Stuff like a new 3d Mario, 2d Zelda, DK, are being held off for extra dev time and will shine on a fresh new system.
Seriously? Activision and Skylanders are the reason this Donkey Kong game which sounds amazing by the way, never made it passed early development? Man Nintendo needs better partners and DK expansion gets going and gets visitors. Hopefully this prompts them.
Seems like the bad reviews of this show have the similar complaints about Sonic X. Where Chris was the one with the arc and Sonic and crew were side characters. Meanwhile the good reviews are looking at the show at face value.
@WaffleRaptor01 Focus regarding platformers and party games that maybe. But Nintendo is way more than just platformers. And even so, movies don't always need a deep interesting plots to be good or even great.
Of course, he's said as much before. I believe he will be but there's got to be execution with that ambition. Still with the planet of the apes movie. That will be his test. He deserves that much. Granted the real indication will be the trailer.
Haven't played a final fantasy. But 7 has to be the most milked game of the series. An observation not a complaint. I mean the original PS1 version, to the compilation, Advent Children, ever crisis, the remake soon to be trilogy. Now this even though fan made.
The only other game that comes close to having as much itterations of the same game is Links Awakening.
@PinderSchloss Thats because the first time they tried the big screen it burned them and Mario. Now we got a movie that represents Mario, acquired taste or not. If that doesn't prove Nintendo can't handle movies, I don't know what will.
@westman98 Derek Conley being the sole writer that might not even be the case. His name was leaked, not announced. There has to be way more than who we know at the moment.
I've always thought a more balanced tone is the way to go for a Zelda movie. Sophisticated but campy for those who want a serious movie and a light hearted one. Also Link being a man of few words for those who want Link to talk and be mute. Basically this movie we'll be a medium of desires.
At this point, the Zelda ports aren't happening. It made sense for them in 2022 when Tears was delayed and 2021 when it was the 35th anniversary? Same with Xenoblade X or the dream cast games. And at this point, why bother? The Switch 2 is almost here and it will need amo for it. When we're close to a new system, why bring out ports as a hold over when they can buzz on Switch 2.
I mean the snowmad tribe kind of was an invasion of DK island. And I know people miss the Kremlings but in hindsight, I give Retro credit for trying out new villains.

Because he's busy spearheading the movie.
