We recently covered some of Numskull Games' upcoming releases which are coming to the Switch later this year, but we really liked the look of Gearshifters, so let's take a deeper look at what it's all about.
Fans of classic top-down racer Micro Machines will no doubt warm to Gearshifters, but rather than racing around breakfast tables and the like, this game is set in a dystopian future reality akin to the Mad Max movies. You'll need to dodge bullets, perform handbrake turns, and shoot your way to victory.
The civilised world is no more and the roads between the collapsed settlements are ruled by opposing syndicates of gangs. The routes are treacherous but commodities and high-value items must still be transported, for the right price.
In this arcade-action shoot-’em-up rogue-lite you will steer, drift, spin, smash and gun through waves of enemy vehicles. There are even some extreme-machine boss fights to keep you on your toes. You can build up and tune your tactical load-out of car mods, defences and weaponry for each treacherous transport mission, too.
Developed by Richard Ogden, of Colin McRae Rally 2.0 and TOCA Championship Racing fame, this is certainly one to watch out for when it lands on the Switch later this year. Will you be adding it to your wish list?

I may not add it, but I look forward to you reviewing it.
Spyhunter vibes, will see how it reviews .
I like the concept and yes indeed, Spy Hunter vibes! I resisted that much loved game of my youth and found almost impossibly hard to play lol.
It has an uncanny Death Rally resemblence to me.
Everything about ts looks really cool, but why does it have to be a rogue-lite? I really hate having to lose all progress after every run.
Looking good. Will await a review.
I loved Micro Machines, I love top down racers, I adore shmups and Mad Max is one of my favourite movies so chances are, I'll have a lot of fun with this. I look forward to seeing how it turns out.
@FargusPelagius
Yes, I was thinking about Spyhunter the other day and thinking about how a reboot of the game would be great.
Could be fun... hopefully it is.
Looks good to me.
That title is so laughably generic. Game looks.... alright I suppose.
@Jamie_R Annoyingly, I think this would have made a fab arcade game. With a steering wheel and a high / low gear stick that let you flick it up (past high) to do a 180. Maybe the shoot button could be on the stick too. Gah.
Realy looks like a shmup but with cars instead of spaceships it’s interesting.
@FargusPelagius Yeah I thought about that too kinda.
Might get bored with this one, but cool idea...
I get the Spyhunter comparisons, but the endless left-to-right from a directly overhead POV just doesn't click for me personally. RockN'Roll Racing (among others) already did the combat-racing genre, and did it better, IMHO.
@AtlanteanMan have you played this game yet?
Yes I am getting spyhunter vibes from this as well. I do not have any memories of the micromachine games. I knew they where out there but I do not ever remember playing them.
@RetroXombi I haven't played it, but the trailer only shows left-to-right scrolling.
