UK chart data is now in for the week ending 2nd May, revealing that Animal Crossing: New Horizons has once again slipped down to second place.
The game has been toing and froing with FIFA 20 over the last few weeks, with both titles fiercely contesting for first place on a regular basis. This week belongs to FIFA, but other Nintendo titles also managed to climb up a couple of places in the standings.
As well as the Nintendo-published games in the top ten below, others such as Pokémon Sword and Shield, Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, Super Mario Maker 2, and Super Mario Party all saw slight position boosts a little further down the table.
Here's a look at this week's top ten all formats chart:
Last Week | This Week | Title |
---|---|---|
2 | 1 | FIFA 20 |
1 | 2 | Animal Crossing: New Horizons |
3 | 3 | Call of Duty: Modern Warfare |

@KoopaTheQuick Not all. Some haven't learned gross motor skills yet. But they will.
What kind of eldritch power do Fallen Order and Luigi's Mansion 3 possess, that they just won't come down the top 10 despite being around half a year old... Awesome, though. Great single player games should be appreciated too.
Final Fantasy VII Remake hangs in there after a few weeks. Awesome to see FF getting its groove back. Persona 5 Royal on the other hand was out of the Top 40 in its second week.
Guess I’ll put in the usual theory of “Cheaper to buy new GTAV then Shark Cards” as the reasoning for GTAV’s continuing position. Although that implies CEX, GAME & eBay are overflowing with secondhand copies.
Can't help but wonder where GTAV is in the Japanese charts...
Is this the physical list?
I wonder if some games that have stock left over from before the pandemic will benefit from these sales charts compared to newer games that will have stock issues. It might explain some things.
@SmileMan64 "Final Fantasy VII Remake hangs in there after a few weeks. Awesome to see FF getting its groove back."
Even more awesome when knowing the origin of the name of the game: in the 80s, Square was facing banqueroute and released a last game and named it Final Fantasy. Well they are still here more than 30 years after
Considering FIFA sales will be across all formats and AC is only available on Switch, I'd say that AC is doing a damned good job
Luigis Mansion 3 has probably sold around 7 to 8 million copies by now worldwide it keeps selling
I'm closing in on 200 hours in Animal Crossing. I've had other games I've played this much before, even on Switch I have a few, but it's rarely so much over only a couple months.
Of course, that's partly because of "working" from home.
@KoopaTheQuick Mandated by her majesty the Queen. The law dates back all the way to the Magna Carta. People were so relieved when that clause finally made sense. King John was finally proven right, they said he was crazy, but he was right.
@zitpig Good point. Well made ^^
And both games are a shoddy example of corporate greed at its finest.
I considered getting FIFA 20 on the Xbox last week but it's still £30 for something which is meant to be a bit of a mess. I would have been day one for a switch version until they made it legacy edition. Let's see what FIFA 21 brings.
Never played COD or GTA5.
Jesus, didn't expect Luigi's Mansion 3 to keep selling so well in the UK.
Hopefully FFVII Remake keeps up there. My favorite game of the year, easily. I imagine the numbers would probably be higher if there wasn't a physical supply constraint. I barely got my physical copy of the game, and almost everyone I know who got it just went digital because of shipping issues.
FIFA is a cash cow for EA with their FUT microtransactions and lazy Switch "legacy" port, but it's the ultimate couch versus game to play with friends. Many hours of fun. Then again, I don't think playing the newest iteration is even necessary. FIFA 18 is fine with me - at least it still has Juventus instead of "Piemonte Calcio".
Let's see Crash Bandicoot return to the charts!
@KoopaTheQuick
And Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
The real story here is the success of the green fella.
Never thought Luigi's Mansion 3 would continue to sell so well but pleased for Next Level Games as it is a charming game that looks stunning.
This is the true year of Luigi!
Why would anyone buy FIFA 20 now when 21 will be out in 4 months? Don't they shut down some of those battle servers, and migrate them over to FIFA 21? Players will move on to 21 as well, and that will decimate the transfer market.
@Investor9872
Fifa 19 still has lots of players online never mind 20.
Fifa 21 will very likely be delayed because of how Covid 19 has impacted all the football leagues and how it will affect transfers etc.
Be interesting to see what EA does with the next Fifa game due to the pandemic.
@RPGamer no but 2 people can enjoy full access to FIFA on one console with one game and both get all features.
How about that eh.
@TheFullAndy
Good point Andy!
Fifa's still a thing?
@RPGamer I didn't review bomb the game because I don't own the game.
I don't consider life sim games to be real games so I wouldn't waste my time review bombing this dead game.
My point is that loot boxes in FIFA are really no different to the greed Nintendo portrays when forcing you and your brother to purchase two consoles to play one game that your mother got for your birthday day (fake example).
Your inability to fathom how that effects families shows true self centered blindness.
You can disagree with it all you like but the reality is that it's true and it's corporate greed at it's finest and no amount of putting your fingers in your ears and shouting "no no no" will change that.
I remain impressed by Luigis Mansion 3's performance. I wonder if its already the best selling game from that franchise.
With Animal Crossing, it's one of those rare games that has penetrated public consciousness. Even people who don't own a Switch or the game have been showing me memes at work or asking me about the game. I wouldn't be surprised if it becomes the Switch top seller because its momentum hasn't faded yet.
@RPGamer lol I'm over reacting and you use world hunger as an example in a debate about video games?
Do you not see the ridiculous hypocrisy in that?
So to avoid outright saying Nintendo are just as bad as EA in this case, you instead say "well it's not as bad as world hunger".... LOL.
Yes it is annoying and most families, especially now, will not have the funds to to purchase another console.
Which makes Nintendo as bad as EA (in that single example)... But it's not as bad as world hunger 😂.
@RPGamer no you don't have to pay $9.99 for a new fishing rod.
But you do have to pay $300 if you want to play a $60 game with your girlfriend.
How you don't see the greed in comparison is actually what's funny here but whatever.
@RPGamer are you actually this dumb or are you messing around?
If you care to read back my comments.
You will notice that I said "in this case". I never said in general.
Look I am going to block you because you are actually quite thick (or pretending to be, I can't be sure) and incapable of reading (certainly sure of that).
