Tribute Games has revealed that Panzer Paladin will be bringing its retro-inspired platforming action to Switch on 21st July.
The game has you piloting your very own Paladin power armour to fight off giant demons and use their own weapons against them. There's a core swordplay mechanic present throughout, and players can equip and use any weapon dropped by defeated enemies, attacking or blocking at will, in a rock-paper-scissors style weapon system.
We have a feature list for you below, and you'll find some gameplay footage in the trailer a little further down.
Features:
- An engaging action-platformer with fun and intuitive swordplay!
- Take control of Grit, the mighty Paladin power armor, or eject and play as Flame, the small-but-swift Squire pilot!
- Robots meet demons! Crush the forces of the occult with the power of cutting-edge technology!
- Over 100 melee weapons to seize from enemies!
- Use weapons profusely: wield, throw, or shatter them!
- Snap a weapon in half to cast a powerful spell!
- Slash, bash and thrust your way through 17 mind-blowing levels located around the world!
- Carefully crafted 8-bit graphics, just like you remember them!
If you're after your next retro fix, Panzer Paladin might just be what you've been looking for. We'll have to find out when it launches later this month, of course, but feel free to share your early thoughts with us in the comments.

Woah, that’s soon! Gonna be all over this - love Tribute! ^_^
Great to see another title from Tribute, I loved Flinthook, and this looks real solid.
Welp, I’m sold. That chiptune was awesome, and gameplay looks amazing. Like Gato Roboto and Shovel Knight had an amazing baby.
Physical copy please !
@DreamStar
There's a chance, Limited Run Games have sold physical copies of Tribute's games before.
Excellent! I'd been wondering when this would release. Next to Curse of the Moon 2 this is turning out to be a great retro month.
This looks awesome!
@DreamStar @RupeeClock yeah it really sucks, not a fan of those limited game companies, maybe it’s because of the scalpers.
@ShaiHulud .Also the Castlevania Anniversary Collection that LRGs just announced..
Oh, hey, an example of 8-bit game style that actually looks good and doesn't make me roll my eyes. In fact looking forward to it!
@DreamStar Nah, I'm not paying £40 or so for a collection of which I already own the digital version and most of the original ones, but it's great for those interested.
This does look very good, and though usually I'm happy to stick with download versions of "smaller" games, I'd be keen to get a physical copy with artwork like this:
@ShaiHulud ...I understand..But for me I am not a download media kind of guy if I can help it ,I like physical copies of my favorite games and movies .I also can’t wait for “Last Faith “,that game looks awesome..
Looks good, although kinda wish it was done in 16-bit graphics.
@DreamStar I'd rather buy physical as well but there are limitations. Last Faith looks terrific indeed! I'm also eagerly awaiting Axiom Verge 2 later this year.
I've been waiting for this one! Looks terrific, but will wait awhile, as it might be a serious contender for a physical release.
@ShaiHulud ..I too already have all the CV games in the CV Anniversary Collection, including some of the more obscure CV games not included in the collection. But I am a diehard retro CV fan ,so I have to pick the physical copy of CV Anniversary Collection for the Switch .I will not be getting it for the PS4 ,because by time of the release of this I would of already upgraded to a PS5 !😁😬🤣
@DreamStar Get a spare box for Castlevania III by any chance? 😬
Omg yes!!! As soon as I read you could play as the pilot or the suit kind of at will I thought of blaster master. And I absolutely love that series. So yeah I watched the trailer and I’m sold on this! Really loving everything: the art style, sound effects, and gameplay!
Looks absolutely cracking. Love the way you can design your own weapons too.
@ShaiHulud ..No ,unfortunately I do not ..But I will keep an eye out for one ,if I happen to run across one I will let you know .. Are you looking for a box that has the red HALLOWEEN sweepstakes special on the front ?That is the original run of the that game back in 1990 ,or the box without ?
Blaster Master mixed with Castlevania, Shovel Knight, and giant robots. What's not to like?! I'm sold and will be waiting for a physical announcement!
@DreamStar Cheers! I'm looking for the standard box without the sweepstake stuff.
Yes.
That’s all I’ve got. Lol
Looks like a successor to Shovel Knight, might check it out later this month.
Looks dope! Will play after paper mario for sure
@ShaiHulud Cannot wait for tomorrow, co-op Castlevania with 8 playable characters and in co-op your abilities can synergize and create new effects.
This looks really fun.
We need to start moving away from these 8 bit games and get some 16 bit or 32 bit 2d games.
extreme HYPE since the first time I saw the prototype on twitter... this is what my inner child always wanted
@Jokerwolf Same here, it's preloaded and ready to go as soon as I'm done working today!
Absolute day one.
@Zorox88 plenty of those already out there, you're just not looking.
Doesn't look bad.
